Galaxy note dying - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Galaxy note is the first breed of phablets and was unitially criticised. But despite criticism it achieved a massive success and lead to many successor devices. Unfortunately this phone is dying early despite a potential of its way more service life. Most developers are getting the new devices and development on the note is halting.

When development stops we can at least be sure we DID get the best out of our notes thanx to all devs.
Having this phone is gonna make me getting the latest note available when I get to renew my contract.
Every mobile's development 'dies' one day m8,some sooner then others, that's for sure.
Respect!

Your right, instead of just loving the old gen we should keep moving with the new ones.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

Yep, and when we give Note to our missus or kid and get Note x it will have The best ROM/Kernel/Recovery imaginable thanks to all the work done by Devs up to that point (as pointed out by KrisKras). We might be left with Noobs buying Note1 because of price drop, but who knows? Some of them might have potential to carry on the good work of the great Devs who have moved on to other devices:fingers-crossed:

Closed, this is going no where...Thank You.

What will you do with your S2 when Galaxy S3 get's released?

Simple question for people to have a discussion here if they want.
What will you do with your current baby when the little brother gets released, ie Galaxy S3? Or what will you do with it when you get your next upgrade.
I for one will keep my one as i still think it has a couple of more years in it. Plus my dad loves it so i probably give it to him...He loves his Chuck Norris facts bless him.
Anyway i'd love to find out other people's opinions. Bet no one has thought that far out yet.
Enjoy

Keep it, simple as. My sgs2 is my baby, it's my first ever smartphone and I wouldn't ever get rid of it. In the future I may upgrade, but I'll still keep my sgs2, Maybe buy a frame for it .
I'm never buying a non-Google branded android phone again but. I'll just sell it.
i'll keep mine for the duration of my contract. i'm very happy with it.
.
It will be on my desk. Turned on and charged only when there's firmware updates.
Selling my Galaxy S II and getting a Galaxy Nexus for Christmas. And then I'll get the Nexus 4 next Christmas .

My next device will be a Nexus. I'd love to trade my Galaxy S 2 for a Galaxy Nexus. I'll probably skip the Galaxy S 3 for the next nexus if I can't pull a trade off.

Definitely keeping it. This phone will last at least 2 more generations I reckon. And 2nd hand smart phone prices almost never ever did them any justice. It has more value sitting in my drawer as a contingency than 3 to 4 hundred bucks. Just saying.

Sort of farewell

As I posted earlier was thinking about selling my note. Well someone offered me $350 cash locally so I took them up and went to Sam's club and bought their last 16gb Google tablet to hold me over until the note 2 in a few months. So far its pretty cool.
I will still be checking here daily to keep up with development and see who is moving to the 2. Plus I've made some good international pals here as well.
anyway, thanks everyone from themers to chefs to developers to those who help and those I've helped, its been fun and ill see ya here and when the second version of the greatest phablet ever is released

I actually ask myself the same question. "Is that big purchase of the new device justified for a sake of some improvements (but not so overly dramatic)?".
I realise Note2 will come with 4 core processor, slightly bigger screen and perhaps Spen functionality ironed out and maybe better battery life. But how much all these improved features will affect my daily use. The more I think about it the less I'm convinced that I should switch...

None of the features that have leaked are worthy for NOTE users to switch. I mean sure from a Gnex or an S3... but the NOTE is still one of the most advanced smartphones out there.

Completely agree. I bought my Note 2-3 months ago, and sure i'd like to have Note 2, but lets be honest, throwing loads of money away just to get quad-core cpu ( which i probably won't even notice in my daily use ) is just...well...not very smart, unless you have a lot of cash you can spend for whatever you like, then i guess there's no discussion here. Will definitely buy Note 2, but probably in a year or so.

there are a few developers and belive me i know a dead device i developed for the zte warp untill the androidforums.com mods told me there was no use move on.... the diference is there is no "community development" when multiple people work together to build the best rom possible and there id no themeing either which is a substancial part of any development community. i respect you evol4g otherwise i wouldnt have asked you to my team you are doing a great job keep it going the point of this post was to motivate some of the other developers that have been dormant since jellybean came out you all know that they are out there.
Mostly because people are waiting for 4.2. A lot of the current ROMs are similar and very stable so no need to really make new ROMs unless its say Touchwiz, Sense, or any other custom Android firmware. Wait until 4.2 and devs will probably start making more ROMs.
Incorrect thread is incorrect.

I will preface my comment by saying i really do appreciate all of the work still being done here. But, let's not kid ourselves. Compared to a year ago, or even 6 months ago, the development has slowed down substantially. I wouldn't say its dead, however this device is showing its age. There are new and better devices that a lot of the people that used to frequent this forum. have moved on to.
Again I do appreciate all of the work still happening in here. This is by far the best supported device I have owned!

After a year and a half I don't think there's much potential a dev hasn't thought of for this device. You don't see a lot of rom development much after the 2 year mark. Mainly because the devs upgrade to a new phone. I'm just grateful for the work the devs are currently doing!

well im stuck on this phone for a while so you guys that are in the same situation ill keep working with you guys
It will pick back up when el goog releases 4.2 source. I don't think nexus s will "officially" get 5.0. I do think that a few devs will build it for this device regardless. I might even still be here for that, I haven't decided if I'm going to get a nexus 4 yet. The fact that there is potential for glass to break on both sides of the phone doesn't excite me...

Good points and when development does eventually grind to a halt for this device, none of us can really get upset about that. It seems to me for the age of this device, development work has far outlived many other phones.

For a device of this age, with new devices out that trump it... to see any ROMs getting updated is amazing. Take a look at the HTC Vivid for a community that's dead!

I think we'll have the option to have community aosp 5. It will be an option. Just liked the other nexus phones that stopped getting otas but had the option of a built one.

Maybe we should all learn how to develop ROMs. That go's for all non developers in this community, including me. If there was any guides on how to build really good ROMs I think the nexus community will be more understanding of how it is to be a developer and evolve the community.

None of the devs except maybe 2 in the whole community have stuck with a device they are developing for once a new one comes out. They'll abandon users as soon as something new comes out.
I actually came to this forum to see if there was a stock 4.3, because I'm sick and tired of devs who walk out on their users.
Any ROM developers reading this: Yes, this most likely means you.
The DONATIONS you give these guys gives them enough money to get something new; that means, you paid for your own demise.

Obsolescence is a state of mind.
I'm still happy to be using my unrooted DroidX on Android 2.3.4, my rooted, stock Nexus 7 locked at Android 4.1.2 (very stable at 1100+ hours System Uptime, i.e. no unexpected reboots), and even a Windows XP SP3 PC.

ERM HTC hd 2 much? Bit harsh labeling all developers like that, rather than just dissing them have a go at it yourself. The whole paying for your own demise is unfair too, these guys put hours of effort & probably stressful nights into these ROMs & upload these ROMs for FREE but the option is there to DONATE if you would like to. I have only just got a 2012 n7 & hope to learn enough to keep it running as long as the hardware will last. If you want to keep custom ROMs in development have a go at it rather than sitting back & waiting for it serving up on a plate for free & being ungrateful for what you have actually been given. Remember these guys have lives & jobs & families outside providing FREE ROMs for you.

It's not harsh, it's the truth. Sometimes the truth hurts.
I am on tapatalk but if I made my way over to a desktop view, I'm guessing you just joined in the last 2 years. If not, you should see the trends and notice this inexcusable behavior.
I've been here for 7, I see the trends. I am on the most coveted Motorola device at this time, because it's the only one "unlockable". Meander over to the RAZR HD forums, it's dead and we get stale bread crap roms while the sgs4 gets hyperdrive.
I am scared ****less to unlock my device because I know the devs are already abandoning it. I would rather Verizon come out with 4.3 and I can get a nexus 7 4.3 and be on my merry way developing more apps.
When you have something device centric and the users gave you donations to support your development on that device, you are not supposed to walk away from those users like most do. Essentially, they screw the user because they walk off with the money and never look back. If they were business people they wouldn't be in business long for all the lawsuits they would encounter.
Tell me you haven't had this happen to you before.
Low blow or not, it's the truth.

I do see what your saying to a point but it doesn't leave a device useless. The option is there to leave stock, flash a custom Rom or make one to suit yourself. Being dickish really isn't going to help gain support or sympathy, the only thing being achieved here is irritating people & isolating yourself from any help you may need.
Sent from my Nexus 7
Well... Look at it this way, someone had to say it.
When it comes time for a new operating system, people are left high and dry for root access, making their device useless for all intents and purposes.
The developers need to pay a little more respect to people that made donations with not walking away the first sight of a new device.

If he was going to complain about developers doing what they want with their own free time, I'm not surprised he didn't think things through about where factory images come.
Newsflash: donations are voluntary contributions. They are not the same as service fees or commission payment. They carry no legal obligations. If you choose to donate to a dev to get a device, you're acknowledging in the act of donation that the dev is under no contract to support a device for any length of time.
It's very different from what you appear to be imagining, which is some bizarre situation where devs draw up contracts to do crowdfunded work and then breach some "agreement" they made with their users. If a carrier that you pay money for service stops providing services, they're legally liable for that. But if you donate money to a dev? Good luck getting anyone to give a hoot. Caveat emptor.

Interested in Hyperdrive ROM for note 10.1 2014? Support needed.

Hello all Note 10.1 2014 owners.
I am starting this thread to see who is interested in a Hyperdrive ROM.
If you are not familiar, it is a ROM developed by sbreen94 on predominantly Samsung Galaxy devices. Probably one of the best and most popular ROMs out there. Check a few of the Galaxy development threads and you will understand.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4600715
He has been developing for the old Note 10.1 for a while, he does not own a Note 10.1 2014. However, he said if we can put a 2014 edition in his hands he would be more than willing to create the ROM.
Is there any interest in this? I figure a 16gb refurb would do which can be had for around $350.
haspampel and hashcheck have developed two great KK ROMS so far, but it seems development for this tablet is otherwise lacking. This would be a superb addition.

UPDATE 5/23/2014
Everything looks to be in place. Nabour's costs have been covered, see her post if interested in the details. Any further donations should be directed to sbreen as additional people see fit.
We will now patiently await, and I stress patiently . Any additional insights could be posted in this thread while sbreen is developing but let's not be bothering him. To quote Fat Sam from the movie Fletch "When it comes, it comes"
Thanks again to all who made this happen!
Depends... we would get him for wi-fi only version or lte?
:good: If users around here are interested in this, i would be happy to make and support a rom for you!
We really need a custom rom for P601 badly, I know that would be a big hit here now, as currently there is only 1 that is not upgraded that often.
Ran Hyperdrive ROM on my ATT S3 for a long time before exploring KitKat Rom options. Lots of options and customization. I'd definitely be interested if a ROM was developed.

I'm sure you're a nice person and all and well respected here on XDA. Problem is... so was Scrolser and he left us out to dry. Yeah... that left a pretty sour taste in my mouth.

Guys, sbreen94 is the real deal. He currently supports 4 or 5 devices. He just doesn't get a new one and forgets about the old ones like some devs do. I will start off the bidding at $20.00 for the wifi model (P600). This would be a most excellent addition to the Note 10.1 2014 community.

Yes!
I would love to see this rom available for this device!

I would be ok to trow some bucks in for p605, but i doubt there will be anyone else, since we are so few. (i think?)
You can count on 10$ donation from me if you decide to start working on it.
Donations etc.
I figured it would be for the P600 since that is what a majority of people probably own, and it is the easier of the three to be had for a lower price.
I don't know how to organize donations. Perhaps we should do it bounty style with people posting what they can contribute, I'll keep track.
Put me down for $40.
sbreen is legit. He has always well supported all of his roms for all of his devices. I think you'll have an impossible time finding anyone to say anything negative about his work.

sbreen is legit. He has always well supported all of his roms for all of his devices. I think you'll have an impossible time finding anyone to say anything negative about his work.
Let's keep this ball rollin'

I'll go $40.00 as well....
Thanks for the support guys. I would say let's go for the Wi-Fi model which is the P600 I'm assuming. I think posting the amount you are able to contribute in this thread is good so we can keep track. I should probably be able to chip in like 50$ of my own funds toward it
