How Can I Tell If a GT-N7000 is Genuine? (Should I Buy this Phone?) - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

I'm going to buy a used GT-N7000 off craigslist tomorrow but I'm concerned that it could be an imitation as I have read that there are several Chinese copies available ...
How can I tell if the phone on craigslist is the real deal?
I'd very much appreciate any quick responses!
Thanks!

What should I be looking for under "about phone," exactly?
I know "about phone" will give you the model number, but couldn't a fake Note list a fake model number as well? All they would have to do is have it say "GT-N7000" under model number, right?
Thanks again for weighing in!

Check that build version And model are correct. Usually that information differs from oem Samsung.

But if it is rooted and running a ROM, which I believe this one is (some ICS rom), then won't it just display the custom ROM info under "Build number?"
At least, that is the way it is with my current S2. Under "Build number" it says SHOstock Rom v1.9.4.
EDIT: Just looked at the ad again--it doesn't say the phone is running a custom ROM, just that it is running the latest version of ICS ... What build number would that be?
Here is the ad, with photos, in case that helps ...

Looks genuine to me.

From pictures looking genuine .... Although do check the information mentioned by glevitan

Take the battery cover off, remove the battery. It will say GT N7000. But that looks legit.
It looks like he's running a Miui of some sort by the lock screen.

Personally the easiest way to spot a fake is to check the camera...most replica phones won't even sport a 8mp camera and hd video recording. After checking the 'About' in the settings, your best bet would be to check the cam. Check the cam's menu,photo/video resolution/quality.

Thanks to all of you for the excellent suggestions! They're very much appreciated and I feel a lot more confident going to meet with this guy today. Hopefully I'll be joining the Note family ....

Hey check the internal memory it should be over 11GB.. If it's less.. Around 8GB so might be a brick device..
Enviado desde mi GT-N7000 usando Tapatalk 2

the real one has the battery charging input near the home button, the fake one battery charging slot is next to audio 3.55mm hole.
you may also closely examine the box, any bar coding, manufacturing info.Remove the back cover examine the sticker under the batteryMatch the IMEI, *#06# to the sticker, and to label on box.Use some web-based IMEI look up sites to verify the IMEI matches the model.
buy from a geniune samsung authorise dealer.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium

There are many imei checking sites.. Get the imei and give a search. It will give you the manufacture info in a sec...
Build quality is also a thing, Only Geniune Note will feel solid in hand without any quickie noise...

A fake won't have an spen if a stylus is there then either will that work or multi touch pinch etc. Will but if both work then it's genuine.

Hey, I've recently bought a fake Galaxy S4, from someone who pretended the phone was genuine.
The phone works really good, and has many features of the genuine phone, the phone has only one issue, the phone battery indicator is not very accurate.
If I charge the phone to 100%, I use it normally and the battery decreases normally untill 70-60 and it suddenly drops to 15%.
The phone has root and I've calibrated the battery twice, but no result so far. What can I do?
You can buy products in Vietnam or you can see "Vietnam" underneath the battery cover, however, you should believe that China has produced it. The official Samsung products are manufactured in Vietnam (Product made in Vietnam by Samsung) and China knows it.

You're using an admittedly fake s4, and trying to get help on a real s4 forum? Good luck with that.
I'd suggest getting a REAL s4.. then you may get better assistance. There's not much anyone can help with since the hardware is completely different, and likely software too..

I'm sorry you didn't like the response.. Fact of the matter is, there are too many differences in the real and fake devices internally. You can't flash a kernel, modem, boot loader or even a ROM for a real s4 and expect it to work. If your battery doesn't calibrate with calibration apps, there's not much anyone can do for you on a fake device.

The problem is, most of the people who has this type of clone doesn't have this battery related problem.
I just need all the tools to be able to flash it (a new clean ROM), root it again, and install CWM recovery, and then maybe I can install a new kernel.
I pretty sure this is a software related problem, not a hardware one...

This may be true, but you're likely not going to find what you need in this forum, since all the tools, ROMs, etc are for actual devices..
On the same note, though, the real s4s that exhibited similar issues were battery related.. Perhaps a new battery?

This clone is shipped with 2 batteries (W/O NFC, anyway the NFC doesn't work on any of them)
The problem is there, with any of the batteries. On the one which is labeled Near Field Comunication, the battery drain is less worse.
I'm sure the batteries are fake too, and their real capacity would be close to 1500-1600, not 2600, but why is this sudden drop in the battery reading?

What would you think if I come here with a problem with the software or a battery with my LG optimus black cell phone? Could you help me if you have not got that LG model? This is the same issue, you have a non Samsung battery, you have a non Samsung phone so, how do you expect we can help you apart of helping you to know that your phone is a fake? You have a different phone, and if you read a bit you will know that if you try to flash any s4 official rom, you will brick your phone.

Hey, do you know something?
I didn't started this thread. I searched "fake Galaxy S4 xda", and this was the first result. XDA doesn't got a "Clone forum" or something like that, so this is very close to my problem, because this phone is a copy of the original S4".
I posted my question for people who really want to help me, not people who just post to increase the post counter. Afterall, what's your problem?

You don't understand, you have not a copy of a s4, if so, you could flash any s4 rom or something with no problems, you have a different phone with "Samsung s4 adhesives". If you think I am not helping you when I said if you flash any s4 official rom will brick your phone, then you have a problem, man...
Anyway, this thread was opened by a guy who didn't know if he had a real or fake s4 and we helped him. if you would read the xda forum rules you would know that here, it is off-topic.

[Q] Note 3 Clone?

Hi, I just bought a Note 3 off eBay, it was listed as the AT&T variant of the Note 3. I received the phone earlier today and the 1st thing I did was went straight to the settings to see if everything was up to par.
In settings under about device it says its running 4.4 and the model number is SM-N9006. I did a quick Google search and came up with mixed results, some said it was the Chinese version of the Note 3 and some said it was a Note 3 clone.
I did a benchmark test and it doesnt look like the hardware is what its suppose to be, it actually listed it in the rankings as below the S3.
Any feedback would be great, I do have a 14 day return on this. Thanks a lot everyone.

Don't worry about spelling mistakes there are a few through the menus. Has anyone ever noticed the equalizer spelt equaliser in the music menu? There are a few you just have to look. But if your getting antutu scores on par or lower than an S3 then you have the mediate mtk processor and it is a fake for sure.

probably something like this : http://www.fastcardtech.com/HDC-Galaxy-Note-3-N9006.html

Ware however is wrong.

Well good luck and better check it twice next time
Even though it is a fake, and you would expect sub-standard - what are the differences? Is it a good phone still?
I ask because I work with Cisco equipment. There was reports of fakes (Cisco) floating around and it was difficult to spot, apparently they are just as good and are made in the same factory... so in this case the only time I would care about a fake is if I needed to return to warranty.
EDIT: just been reminded that fake products are illegal. - so this is why they're a problem.
Damn. Sorry for the bad news man.

I know, what you mean, thats what I also thought. But as you can see in the pictures (in my first post) i can not handle it with korean letters .
As "gee2012" told me i should check deeper, I did it.
e.g.: With CPU-Z i could see, its not a quad-core processor, only 1,4 GB (internal SD-card), its a MT-65xx device... a.s.o.
The other point is s/n & IMEI a.s.o. because, I think if these devices become more distributed they will be suspended/ "network disabled" (who knows?).
&& the other point is (important), I CAN NOT INSTALL CM
But I have also good News: I have my money back, he was surprised about, what i had to say.
Finally, i must check now his and his girlfriend's new Cellphone .
Sometimes it's like this: happy to see a real new device and trusting (in something) and a bit blind ....
Be sure, in future it will not happend to me again, sure!
THX for the condolence
Yours

You need to flash it with a scatterfile, using the Chinese smartphone tool. Do some Google searching and you'll find it. It flashes the file while it's off and plugged into the computer. The biggest problem is finding the right scatter file for the phone.

Don't do it. If you must study the real handset and lookup fakes online. But seriously it's worth paying extra for a genuine new unit. Do you have a link for this third party?

If you had bought it, use this app to check if it is genuine or fake:
Phone INFO ★Samsung★ > Menu > 'Refurbishment Check'.
You should also compare the IMEI and S/N on the box, in the app and on the back plate (behind the battery). They should be all the same.
Also use a bar code scanner app to scan the bar code on that back plate, and it should match with the IMEI.

On a different note wouldn't it be handy for truthful sellers and truthful buyers of phones to make a transaction without the fear of being scammed Surely in this day and age there has to be a way to do that Would a transaction through the likes of paypal not be a better idea? I just mean how would you get a buyer to give you the phone to run all these checks on it before you have even gave him the money. And then from his point of view how could he trust you with the phone without money, you could be doing anything to it, I mean is there some info on a phone that could be dangerous for someone to have? I guess that's why people say not to buy second hand. But these phones a very expensive a specially for teenagers so that is why its nice for parent's to get them for a better price then at least they can mess around with rooting and flashing I mean £300 is better than £600 not to mention bringing them to school they are so often stolen but hey that is just my opinion.
This website has good details about the difference between real and fake S5.
http://littleboyreports.com/science...ifferentiate-original-samsung-galaxy-s5-fake/

How do you know if you have a fake S7 Edge, or if it is real??? My new G935f...

i received my s7 edge today, and found some things that are worrying me. first, the writing on the bottom of the back of the phone is barely noticeable, and definitely not readable. second, it states on the box, that it was made in vietnam. i haven't read anywhere of samsung having phone fabricated in vietnam.
on the other hand, everything works perfectly. i downloaded aida64, and it has the sony sensor on the back camera. it is listed as a 935f, and not some other wierd letter. the everything i have tested has worked flawlessly. but i can't get over worrying that the other shoe will fall after it's too late to return.
so i need for those who have a g935f, to let me know if you can easily read the writing at the bottom of the back cover, and if you have one that was fabricated in vietnam, i'd like to know if you have had any problems with it at all. thanks!!!
You can tell if it's fake, Samsung's are made in Korea and Vietnam the small text on the back is hard for anyone to read
Sounds like the real deal. Dial *#06# in your dealer. That should give you your imei. It should match the one on the phone.

The screen is made of cheap glass material.
this is the one thing i can't tell. it's shiny and beautiful, but i'm not sure of the glass quality.
2
The screen is too far from the edge.
(Cloned phones have a wide gap between the edge of the screen and the edge of the phone).
no, no gaps.
3
The screen is not as bright and vibrant as the original device's.
the screen is very bright and beautiful.
4
Some of the sensors are not available.
can't find one of the sensors which isn't working.
5
The Home button is not located in the exact same spot as the one on the genuine item.
the home button seems correctly located
6
The Samsung logos are not smoothed out and can be felt; rubbing it will also remove the logo.
no, they are smooth and under the glass.
7
The device's proportions different than that of the genuine product.
seems like the same dimensions, as it fits properly into my cases.
8
Gaps between parts like the home, power, and volume buttons are obvious.
no gaps at any of these buttons.
9
When the battery cover is opened, some of the small components do not match with the original ones.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No | I need help
can't take the battery cover off the s7 edge.
10
The phone does not have a seal from the National Communications Agency or an equivalent agency in your country.
this is the other thing. i can NOT find this seal. the text on the back is not readable.
11
The battery specifications are not the same.
battery is 3600mAH

so there are a few questions still. but most of those things are perfect. can't help being paranoid about the ones which aren't though.
Further more, just call Samsung and ask them to confirm it. Lol

of course with samsung everything that seems like it would be that easy, never is. samsung america will NOT comment whatsoever on the g935f, because it is not an american device. they act like they are completely handicapped if you ask them about anything that is NOT carrier specific. It, of course, was the first thing i did. then i tried to call the uk customer support, but the time difference kept screwing that up. and on top of all that, i had to make a decision today, or get stuck. so that is why i was buggin.
however, tonight i drove across town to the bestbuy, and held a few of theirs in my hands while the guys were busy with other customers, and that made me feel a lot better, as several of those also had writing that was hard to see. only on the edge, not the reg s7, which was very clear. then i had the samsung rep look it over, check all the coding and he said it was legit. so i am done. i will keep it, and feel great about it. all day it has performed very well, and all sensors work perfectly. i've done motion sensors, bluetooth, cameras, wifi, etc... it all checked out. so thank you for anyone who commented to this thread. i appreciate the efforts. cheers!

yeah, i've been killing myself to find a white one. definitely a very difficult task, especially if you are NOT willing to pay over a thousand dollars for it. they have them on ebay for
$1,150.00. But i'd settled for a black one before paying that. so i have my very rare white one, and it's all good now. and i actually paid a hundred less than the first one i got. so very happy with the end result.

So the writing on the back is blacked out because of the change from the fCC that doesn't mandate the imei and other info be displayed. So since the phone is blacked out they made it dark so you can see if you look closely but not if you are far away. Phone is made in multiple locations, and honestly only way to be 100% sure is to check hardware which you did. That can't be spoofed easily and takes work. Also, if it's real you should be able to register it on Samsung's website. If you can register it. Chances are your are good.

You can install this APP, tap on the 3 menu lines on the up to the left and tap Refurbishment Check option.
Mine says made in vietnam and the texts in the back are barely noticeable (i got the black variant tho) but im 100% sure my device is legit since i got it from a legit source. Where did you get yours? If its somewhere fishy then you should worry. If its from a trusted source then dont worry at all.

My last 3 samsung devices including this one are all made in vietnam. I bought them all from my carrier. The text on the back is a little hard to see at certain lighting.

yeah, i installed that app this afternoon, and it says it's all good. except my scs says nordic se. that's the only thing that stuck out. but after seeing all of that, comparing it to other s7 edge devices in a bestbuy tonight, and speaking with their guy, i am satisfied it is all good. runs really fast, and the battery life has lasted all day with very little drain.

yeah, i feel a lot better after you guys were telling me that yours was made in vietnam as well. i'd just never paid attention before to that. but i got it off an online store. they of course say they are legit, but you never know if you can walk in and see. anyway, all's well that ends well. and i am cool with it now. thanks for the comment.
