AOSP Browser - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will we be able to load the AOSP browser on the Nexus 10? Google still cant seem to get the lag out of chrome. It makes the tablet look laggy from the reviews I've seen.

AOSP browser will still be available, when 4.2 is released to AOSP, will probably require root to install it. Chrome for Android is not open-source yet, so Google has to also release a Chromium AOSP browser.

Galaxy Nexus Browser
I will love to see the browser with a Google chrome theme
Because Google chrome mobile don't have the browser futures
I can't believe it

yes perfect possible i did before.

The AOSP browser is almost the best browser for the platform IMO, just barely behind Dolphin Browser and Boat.

This hack works for Nexus 7 with jb 4.2:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/nexus-7-hack-install-aosp-android-browser-n7/
And I am pretty sure that it will work in Nexus 10 as well....

The aosp browser is by far the fasted browser I've benchmarked
so the first thing I'm going to do after getting root access is install it as my default

You are right not just the fastest BUT also the MOST STABLE.... Chrome was crashing and making my system slow
I hate google chrome when I updated Nexus 7 to 4.2 i was mad untill I was able to install ASOP....
..

I just can't believe Google actually uses chrome and thinks its actually acceptable to ship devices with this especially over the aosp browser.

Well it's a Google product and it's their flagship browser, but they better optimize it...
Is the stock JB browser available to install?

Haven't found AOSP browser yet, but for now I'm sticking with HoloWeb. I really like the synchronisation and the interface with chrome but the performance just isnt't there (yet)...
And by the way: Got 790ms in sunspider with HoloWeb

This method working on my n10.
You need to rename the two browser proxy files as well.

Slide83 asked if I knew of a way of getting AOSP browser working on the Nexus 10, this a method that has worked for me before.
> Must be rooted.
> Copy the browser.apk into the system/app folder
> With a root file explorer change the file permissions of the browser.apk to -rw-rw-r (you will see this represented as 664) If you don't do this, it won't install.
> You must rename the BrowserProviderProxy.apk & BrowserProviderProxy.odex otherwise the browser will force close, just add a 1 to the name e.g. 1BrowserProviderProxy.apk1 Do not delete them, if you still want to OTA update Android. Android checks for any changes to the system/app folder before performing an OTA, so you will have to delete the browser.apk and rename the two file back to stock, when it is OTA time.
Any Nexus 10 owner that gets AOSP browser 4.2 working, please post Sunspider, Geekbench and Google Octane scores! (please)

I have installed BOAT BROWSER in my Nexus 7, and I can tell that it is so far THE BEST AND MOST STABLE BROWSER that I have ever encountered...
It does support flash, and it is better than AOSP...
Looks very pretty on my Nexus 7 , and I have set BOAT BROWSER as my default browser.
I have installed DOLPHIN as well and it is also very good and pretty in the Nexus 7....

Can anyone confirm whether email app has pinch to zoom or not?

I know that gmail now supports it but I'm wondering if the regular email app does as well. Any n4 users able to check for me?
Works on nexus 7 with update.. Man 4.2 is amazing!! Seems faster and smoother to which is a surprise! I did not expect these improvements. The new keyboard is great to. Way better than the swype app.

Linking messaging on KF and Galaxy S4?

I have looked all around and can't find anything on this, so I figured I'd ask here.
Does anyone know if there is a way to have joint messaging on a tablet (specifically my Kindle Fire) and my cell phone? My wife has an iPhone 5 and an iPad, and if I text her from my phone, she'll get it on both, as well as being able to reply to me from either one. They both have the same (stock) messaging app on them, so it is all linked together.
My question is, can I do that with my KF? I don't use the stock messaging on my Galaxy S4 because I've always used Handcent SMS, but I'd be open to any app that would allow me to do this. So, any thoughts?
I use Google Voice. The app runs on Android systems and syncs text messages to all devices.

Kit kat broke Adobe flash

It appears kit kat has broken flash. Before, I could view amazon instant video through Firefox, but now none of the browsers (dolphin, Firefox, xscope) work. They all say that flash player needs to be installed.
Flash is installed and it's been enabled on all three browsers.
Has anyone gotten it to work?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
I got flash working flawlessly...... I stayed on 4.2.2. Lol
Never got it working reliably on 4.3 and kinda figured 4.4 would be the same. Me and my daughter stream lots..... So with 4.2.2 I will stay. Unless I lose my need for flash, then I'll update.

It works, but it's slow and choppy. Not sure if it's because it's the free/trial version. Not willing to spend money on it if it's still going to be that way with the paid version.

android 4.4 isnt compatible with adobe flash. the last update that adobe put out for flash is also the last update ever for flash on android, was in september. that means that we are done with flash.
Have to decide..... Keep device a couple android versions higher, or stay back and enjoy flash. I'm doing the latter.
Unless the flash we do have stops working. But mine is about 6 versions back and still works great.
When I get my new phone.... I guess I'll be out of luck. But the old one can be my mini TV.

Never for me. A well as others who have posted about it. Tried all the ideas I've read about, but was still always flaky or a plain no go. I've never had an issue with 4.2.2 or experienced the famous 4.2.2 lag.... And 4.2.2 and up are all pretty much the same... To me anyway... So I don't mind keeping it at all.
But I also got over my flashing addiction.... Now I just want stable. Lol

I should add.... My family uses the n7 for lots of stuff.... And don't know or care what's on it... As long as it works. But me... All I really use the n7 for is watching movies and TV.... So flash is about the only thing I care about on it.... So if it isn't flawless... The tablet is broke to me. Lol So I'm kind of treating 4.3 and 4.4 as meh.... If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Of course that's just how I use my n7.....for those who like to mess with it.... I get the updates and flashing all the time.
I mess with my phone a lot, but haven't flashed anything on my tablet since the summer.

What ad blocking method is everyone using?

I'm running a slimmed down stock rooted ROM and don't have ad blocking baked in. What methods are available and viable for our phone right now?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Same as any other phone. Just use Adfree. Works fine.
If you're rooted, AdAway is about as good as it gets in my opinion.
Im running adaway and love it. When adaway blocks an add on a webpage it just displace a white blank image anyway to make it not show at all?
I'm rooted and AdAway has been my favorite for my Nexus devices.
Another Adaway user.
AdAway here. Works well, takes little thought or effort
Adaway FTW, adfree's blacklist is not as comprehensive and does not always seem to work for me atleast.
Adaway just works
adaway
+1 for Adaway. The best there is.
Adguard for unrooted.
Adguard in VPN mode.
Another one here for Adaway. Used it for years. Set it up and forget about it, runs perfectly.
+1 for AdAway

I've always liked Adfree better than adaway, but when I tried it on my 6p, some YouTube ads wouldn't play and then the actual video I wanted to watch wouldn't play.

Facebook app HD video

Hey guys.
Today I was fiddling with my friends s7 edge's Facebook app settings and saw that he has an option to Upload videos on the app with HD resolution, and I only have the option to Upload photos. We are on the same version of the app and both on the s7 edge. I'm running on 7.0 at the moment, but on MM there was never the option either.
Anyone knows how I can have the option? Thanks

I can confirm I only have the option to upload photos in HD and not videos, I'm also on Nougat and have the same version of FB installed....iirc I used to have the option.
I have read online from what others have posted and the only way to upload videos in HD on Android is via Chrome when in desktop mode, I haven't tried this and it also doesn't explain why your friend can, it's pretty bizarre!
This Is my friend's option list. I don't have Neither the video option nor the search for updates "atualizacoes de app"
How weird is this... lol
I can't also find the stock app that comes with the phone either, since Maybe that's what he has and just updated. I don't know
