Canadians: What provider are you going to go with for your off contract N4? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently with Bell and my contract is expiring in Nov. My plan isn't great so I might end up switching but honestly, I don't know if there is much better out there. All other companies plans seem to suck just as much. Who you guys with/going with?

To take advantage of DC-HSPA+ I recommend going with Bell and Telus. I am however with Big Red. They have never let me down...

What is your current plan?
I'm also with bell I have:
- 200 mins
- unlimited evenings and weekends after 6pm
- unlimited txt/picture/video
- fab10
- VM/CID
- 6gb LTE
Total: 72$
I'm changing to Fido's $57 plan which includes:
- unlimited canada-wide calling
- unlimited international txt/picture/video
- 1gb LTE
- VM/CID
I honestly don't need 6gb of data because I have wifi at home and at work which is where I spent 80% of my time. If I ever go over the 1gb, it's only $10 for an extra 1gb.
I have family all over Canada and no home phone so for me having unlimited Canada wide calling is the main reason for switching.

Fab 10 Promo 55
Conference Calling and Call Waiting
200 anytime local minutes
Unlimited nights (6 p.m. - 7 a.m.) and weekends (6 p.m. Friday - 7 a.m. Monday)
National Fab 10 - Text & Talk
Text Messaging - Unlimited Package
Unlimited Picture and Video Messaging
Email & Internet 1GB
Basic Long Distance Rate
With Bell ATM
Honestly, no callerID drives me since it comes with like half the other companies and I'm not paying bell 7 bucks for it lol. I don't tend to go over my 1gig, but I feel like I would use more data if I knew I had more.
Might try Telus or even Koodo (like the Canada long distance and international texts). Just wish we had those crazy american plans that are like 30 dollar 6gig or whatever nonsense lol.

These Nexus 4 phones don't have LTE so paying Bell for high speed is pointless just go with any unlimited Mobilicity or Wind, or other reseller 21Mbps HSPA+ contract good enough speed for a phone. I pay $30/mth "unlimited" data and voice/sms but have never reached the monthly limit, the speeds are of course throttled but since I only use mine for calling people, jabber chat, ssh logging into servers and casual surfing the speed is fine.

- 250 mins everywhere
- unlimited evenings and weekends after 6pm
- unlimited txt/picture/video
- VM/CID
- 2gb LTE
Total: $46, all-in
I'm with Rogers. Took a few calls to Retentions. No reason to switch, really. I'll be selling my Raider for $150 (only got it in February, for free) to offset a bit of the N4 cost, but if I can't get rid of it I have no problem eating the full price.

Rogers and when my plan expires in March 2014 I will be going straight to WIND. I'm hoping cell service will be better by then.

Im with virgin mobile, i have:
150min
2GB of data
Unlimited text/picture/video messaging
$50 a month
We get hosed here in canada :/

I'm on Rogers and will be sticking with them. Sadly I pay a lot, or my company does but I go through a fair amount as well. 200-300 texts, 5+ GB's and about ~1300 minutes a month.
Sadly Wind coverage sucks where I am so I can't even attempt to go with them.

Got this plan when I bought the Galaxy Nexus back in february. I just hate their phone selection but in overall I'm very happy with the service they provide in my area. Of course this was an hidden plan that I had to negociate but during last summer all major companies did a "6 gigs promo" with a similar plan for new consumers.
Koodoo had some realy interessing plans back in february, you should check with them too!

Go with wind mobile... hahahaha
40$ month an unlimited service for everything data text calls voice mails... n everything you can imagine... plus always off contract.

I have the wind $40 holiday miracle plan.
Unlimited Calling (CA/US)
Unlimited Text/MMS (CA/US)
Unlimited global text
Unlimited Data (throttled after 5 gb I believe)
Voicemail, caller id, call forwarding also included
I have great reception for where I spend most of my time. There are ofcourse pockets I know of where data is very slow. Pretty happy with Wind at the end of the day. Unless you spend lots of time underground or deep inside buildings, I think you'll be happy with them too.

I'm a Telus user
Promo Voice and Data 65 6GB
-caller id
- 200 mins
- unlimited txt/picture/video
- unlimited evenings and weekends after 6pm
- fab10
- 6pm Local Nights & Weekends
- 6gb LTE
$65 / month

I'm currently on Koodo paying $20/month for unlimited texting and 50 minutes month. Since I have WiFi at school and at my house my only need is unlimited texting. Im going to be using this same plan when I get my Nexus 4.

I'm with Rogers atm and probably staying with them since I have a pretty good retention plan. I'm due for an HUP, probably going to upgrade to iphone5 and then sell it to cover costs of the unlocked N4.
My plan is $47 all in and includes:
350 daytime min
Ultd evening/weekends @ 6pm
Ultd text
Ultd network calling
200 LD minutes
CID/VM etc...
6GB Data (not LTE)

Can anyone tell me about Wind Mobile reception in Ottawa? Data speed in particularly.
I love the fact that it's pentaband, which means I can use this phone next year while overseas

I'm with WIND as well for their $40 (not HMP though).
- unlimited Canada-wide calling
- unlimited texting
- unlimited data (throttled after 5 GB)
- call forward, call display, call waiting
- no VM
$40/month
I'm getting the 16 GB version. I was with Mobilicity on their $25/month when I got the Nexus S which I still have right now.
deltatux

I get a Cprail discount lol.
6 GB data
400 anytime minutes
Unlimited evenings and weekends from 5
Unlimited picture and text messaging
VM/CD
50 plus tax
Had to sign a new three year deal with Telus to get it but picked up an iPhone 5 and sold it for 800.

I run my entire phone off of a mobile wifi hotspot device that I carry with me which cost me $50 dollars a month. Which I also use to connect with my laptop when I'm home.
So I guess its $0 for me as far as a wireless plan goes for the phone itself.
I was tired of contracts and wireless companies in general.

Brazilian carriers now are giving away so many phone plans w/ unlimited call to their own mobile lines, as well as "unlimited" 3G data connections - but with speeds usually limited to 1Mb for the first 10 Mbs of traffic, and then reduction to 100Kbps.
I still feel sorry for Brazilians like me.

I live in Oman. The internet sucks! No unlimited, 2 main ISPs with no competition between them same "offers", speeds never cross 1 Mbps with all of their crappy offers, the govertment doesn't allow new Telecom companies to operate here and VoIP services are blocked because they have to pay a license which cost around million/year until recently because some foreign experts are coming here to explain the usefulness of VoIP. Greedy bastards.

Really?
No connections at all after 6pm? Is that a government rule?
no its because of the weak infrastructure they said they will improve it on 2010 and then they postponed it to 2013. The speeds are very slow after dusk worse than EDGE 30 mins to download a 1 MB file
I pay $57 a month with AT&T for 400 talk minutes, unlimited data, and no text messaging. I get a 20% discount through my employer though as employee discount for personal use.

[Q] Best Plan For Nexus 4?

I'm currently on the $25 Virgin Mobile plan (Unlimited data/text, $300 minutes), and I was planning on upgrading my phone. With the recent announcement of the price of the Nexus 4, I think I might get on that. However is there any plan that is comparable to my Virgin Mobile plan? Seems all carriers have ridiculously expensive plans.
TMobile has some pretty good plans.
Tmobile 30 dollars for unlimited text/data (first 5 gb at "4g speeds") and 100 minutes is what I use. Only available from t mobiles website and walmart. I use Groove IP at home for free calls, but I also already used GV for years so the number is the same for me.
I'm pretty happy with my $45 straight talk unlimited minutes, text and unlimited data (it's really limited to about 2-2.5gb per month then your thottled) on the at&t side of things. You can get the same deal on straight talk with a t-mobile sim card and I hear they are lot more lenient on data consumption. I read about people routinely using 5-7gb's and not being throttled. That's my two cents.
IT's hard to beat the tmobile $30 unlim data/text plan.
where are you people getting these prices for prepaid? All I see is $70 a month for 5GB data
Basically buy the prepaid activation sim kit from T-Mobile website (only .99 cents) then when you activate it it's one of the options.

Value Plan for T-Mo is not bad if you need multiple lines.
I use red pocket which gives unlimted text/calls,25mb data and 250 min of international calling for 39.99$

Prepaid plan for Nexus 4 in Canada (GTA, Ontario)

Hey guys, I currently have a contract with Rogers which sucks a lot (not coverage, but cost), and I'm thinking about switching to some prepaid plan after my contract expires. The best prepaid plan that I found is Virgin, which is $25(100mb) or $35(250mb). It is pretty decent, but I need more data. 100 minutes is enough for me, and unlimited texting needed.
Do you know any carriers that offer better deals?
If you could do month to month, no contract koodo has a promotion for $45, Unlimited incomming calls, picture text, after 5 free, 300 mins with 500mb data for $45.

look into Speakout Mobile.. their data is advertised as unlimited mobile browsing but you could always run a proxy / vpn on your phone to remove any limitations. I spend $30 a month for 100 mins, unlim texting, and "unlim" data..

(LTE) Free 200mb data for LIFE from T-Mobile Announced!

From the press release via Droid Life-
" T-Mobile is the only major national wireless provider to make tablets affordable, connected and mobile right out of the box. There’s no bait and switch, no trial period and no strings attached. T-Mobile is the only national wireless provider to offer tablet owners up to 200 MB of free 4G LTE data every month for as long as they own their tablet, even if they’re not yet a T-Mobile customer.[iii] It’s really as good as it sounds – 200 MB of free data on T-Mobile’s nationwide 4G LTE network. That means each month customers can send approximately 800 Instagram photos, more than 2,500 emails or stream 200 minutes of music – all for free."
This is a great perk for those of us with the LTE Nexus 7 and another reason to get one if you havent already. Just thought Id share the good news.
Well you should train your retail store employees. They just told me only the first month was free.

It looks like you'll have to wait until November 1st. From Engadget's article on same-
"As of November 1st, the no-charge bandwidth will be available for the lifetime of any tablet on the network; customers who pay for data will get the 200MB on top of their existing caps. The company is simultaneously launching a tablet trade-in program that will discount new devices when shoppers bring in old slates, even if they're WiFi-only."
really happy about this.
This will be sweet

so long as i am paying for an expensive phone contract, i will not ever consider an LTE tablet contract as well. If only we could get this is england, it would be great.
What i wish someone would do though, is allow you to buy a second sim if you have an LTE phone contract. If i can tether my tablet to my phone, why can't they just create a system where you can have two sims, linked, and share your monthly data allowance between the two.
That's exqc ly what at&t and Verizon are doing with their plans in the US. The way only problem is that they've priced them so high it only helps if you have many devices. They also don't allow tethering. You generally have to install a 3rd party ROM for that.

That's widely available here in Germany. I don't use it, because my phone operator has a good entry level offer (unlimited SMS, unlimited calls in my network and another one, 100 minutes into any network and 300MB UMTS data, after that it is locked to 2G speed) for 18€ per month. 300MB is fine for my smartphone usage. But upgrading to 1GB even adds 10€ per month, going to 3GB doubles the cost. But in theory if I had more data volume, I could add another SIM card to that plan and use the data on all devices.
But it was easier and cheaper to get a heavily discounted contract from another operator (Telekom) which has a better network for data and it costs me 14€ per month for 5GB LTE volume.

That's not exactly true. We switched just my wife's phone to the family share plan and it was the same price as paying for the lowest amount of data + minutes + sms. On the share plan she now has unlimited sms, unlimited, calls, and 1GB of data as compared to 400 minutes, a small block of sms, and 300 MB of data. Not to mention before she did not have tethering and now she has tethering already included. Switched one device and we're already seeing savings.
So, for the same price we got: Unlimited Minutes, Unlimited SMS, 3 times the data, and tethering included (a service we didn't get before). So how is this AT&T pricing too high?
Now if we add my Nexus 7 on the plan it will be only $10 more a month and I will share 1GB of data with her. I don't find that to be priced too high at all. Either way, I'll be taking my free data from T-Mobile and just tether from my phone when I run out.
If i wanted just 200mb from my current provider, it would cost me £2 and would only be available for 24 hours. If i want the data available for a whole month i could get 1gb for £10. It is a joke.
I looked into it in the UK for my provider (02) and looks like they do allow this shared data thing, but only if you have a business contract with them.
LTE tablets are just not going to succeed so long as they are requiring people who already pay for a data plan on their mobile to pay for a data plan on their tablet as well. I will just tether, because name a situation where you have your tablet at hand, but not your phone.

I suppose it depends on your situation. I haven't had to go out shopping in a while, but I'm grandfathered into a Verizon Unlimited data plan for roughly $125/mo for two smartphones. I'm stuck in contract until Aug 2014 for now.
For a Verizon share plan, we'd spend roughly $15 more for both phones and 4Gb of data (we use more than 2Gb combined)...assuming they apply our employee discount to the entire account. Adding a tablet is another $10 and we don't need mobile tablet access every month.
If I had to shop now, I'd look at Net10 with AT&T access for 2 phones for $85 and 2.5Gb of high speed data each. Then with the money saved I could get a prepaid tablet plan when I need it from whomever had the best rates at the time.
Of course if you can tether your phone, which I can do with my GS3 right now, then your data might as well be pooled and an extra sim is just a matter of convenience.
I'm hoping things in the US are starting to change for the better. It seems like a racket compared to rates available in Europe.

Verizon-->?

So I just got a notice in the mail today dated Feb 16th that my employee discount for my work is being canceled for my unlimited data plan. I just got off contract last month and it looks like Verizon is trying to get me off this plan. So I'm looking to switch to another carrier. I have two months to do so, more like one now that Verizon sent that letter so late. Anyone know of anything that could maybe meet my needs?
Needs: Unlimited Data, (Or a lot of it ~8GB)
Keep phone. I have a Galaxy note 2 I wish to unlock. (Looking up how to do that if anyone has answers I would appreciate them)
Keep bill below $74, which is what I'm currently paying per month, otherwise I pay about $86.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Verizon is really trying to screw people right now and it's a bummer that this is happening to you. T-Mobile has the best prices and the fastest 4G LTE network from speed tests that I personally have done. I've achieved speeds of over 42Mbps on their network (mind-blowing) and have been with T-Mobile ever since. Their HD voice calling is AMAZING. Crystal clear. And T-Mobile just spent $4.6 billion on upgrading their network and buying spectrum off of Verizon to level the playing field. Now my entire family is on T-Mobile and I have yet to hear a single complaint.
Here's what you would get for $70.00 per month plus tax:
-Unlimited minutes
-Unlimited texting
-Truly unlimited data (no caps, period)
- 2.5GB of hotspot included at no extra cost (and if you want more hotspot it's only $10 more per 2GB increment)
- NO CONTRACT!!! Bring your own phone! NO ACTIVATION FEES! NO OBLIGATIONS!

I switched to T-Mobile's new bring your own phone plan. Other than getting slowed down to 0.08Mbps after my 1GB of High speed data, it really is unlimited though excruciatingly slow.
