hi
1) People are saying that on this phone, the battery cant be removed. That is one of the things that is stopping me from buying this phone
is it really that big of an issue???
Becuase of the battery fails after a year, the phone is basically useless
2) and will this phone have a SD slot?
3) are there other issues with this phone?

1) Possibly.
2) Nope.

Also I saw that the phone has screws on the bottom. I just hope there is a way that the battery can be removed and replaced
somehow.

hardwarre problem on wing

so i think my wing may be in the process of biting the big one. A few days ago, my wing restarted itself for no reason, i figured it was probably a system error and didnt think twice about it. Now all of a sudden my wing will constantly restart, sometimes in the middle of a call. Sometimes when it does restart the screen will either turn white or fade to white. I reinstalled the original rom to see if it was a software issue and it is still doing it. Also, it doesnt normally do it when it is just sitting there, and sometimes i cant turn it back on. Any ideas?
Make sure the battery isn't loose inside the case... and that all the prongs are making contact.
For the life of me, i cant figure it out. I know it has to have something to do with the phone not getting power. At this point, it wont even fully turn on. Short of taking it apart and checking the solder, does anyone have any ideas?

If you already reflashed the original rom, and it is still doing it, that tells you it is definitely a hardware issue. It does sound like it's losing power which could be a host of things. (loose battery, defective battery, loose solder on board, etc) I would try what duprade said, and check to make sure your battery has a good connection first. If you had a friend that had a wing as well, you could try his to make sure it's not the battery.

Brand new battery (free from tmo to replace the dynapack) Everything on the mainboard looks like it is soldered well. There is an internal watch batter though, could that have something to do with it?

I doubt it. I would guess that's the cmos battery. If that were to go, then your phone wouldn't keep time, but that wouldn't stop your phone from functioning. (I used to work in the service center at a computer store).
maybe its the processor then. sometimes, after it freezes, it artifacts before shutting off

There is the possibility of you overclocking your phone, and it heated up and could have burned or cracked some solder. It might even be overheating and that's why it reboots. At any rate, it def. sounds like hardware though. Sorry man. You could try to resolder the connections on the board just to make sure, but it sounds like you have a paperweight. Is it under warranty or do you have insurance?
only ever oc'd once, for a few minutes, and not very high (like 267 i think) It's on right now on the power cable (this wouldnt work yesterday) I honestly have no fricken clue whats going on with it.
Is it possible for the battery to completely diminish itself without being used for a day? Before it died on me last, it had a full battery, now it is showing 1% (and charging).
By the way, as I stated above, it is a brand new battery sent to me by tmo.
Dang it all! Stupid thing just shut off again... ARG!!!

Hey dcmtnbkr. I seem to have the exact same problem with my Wing. It shuts off for no reason, and it does it absolutely randomly. Sometimes it would work for 3hrs straight no matter what i use it for. And other times it shuts off every 30sec. and it takes 3 to 10 tries to turn it back on(most of the times it would not get past the windows mobile welcome screen). I was gonna flash it with the newer Rom, but i'm afraid that the damn thing might shut off during flashing . So i'm stuck. If you find the way to fix it - please let me know.
actually, i just talked to tmo, and apparantly NOW after i told them I'm cancelling when my contract is up, now they can apparantly cover it under manufacturer warranty (as opposed to the last time i called about a week ago) I would call them even if you didnt buy it from them, tell them you dont remember where you bought it, but it was some company online. These phone's arent that old and you may still be under the manufacturers warranty. Also, i would try and flash it back to the original. These phones are very hard to brick, and i would ask around to see if a powerdown in the middle of an upgrade would do it. I just got mine to reflash without a problem.
my wing rstarts itself wen i jus tap the back of it where the battery cover is but it wont restart everytime. anyone have any ides?

Phone restarts on it's own.?

I been having this issue lately where my phone loves to "restart" on it's own. I thought maybe it was the rom I was running, but I was dead wrong. I flashed every rom/port and it seems like I keep getting random restarts, so if someone knows how to fix this, I am all eyes. Thanks in advance
Sent from my MyTouch 4g that loves to restart on it's own free will
have you tried a hard reboot?
Try removing battery, removing sin card, and memory card (if any) and restart

I just did it, right after you posted that comment. Will update later today on how it goes. Thanks alot for the help you have provided for me and maybe others that has encountered random reboots.
Fold a small piece of paper and put it under the battery cover. Your battery could be loose.

I checked that. It's not loose or anything, it may be the roms I try to run on here. Cause right now I am currently on SkyTouch rom and I haven't had one random restart from it.

First thing to do when getting the Nexus

Hi,
I just wanted to know if there are things that it's best to do when first getting a Nexus 4, before opening it, so that the device would be "optimized".
For example:
1. Charging the battery - I heard it is important to fully charge the battery before turning on the device - is this true?
2. Is it better to put the sim card before, again, turning the device on for the first time?
thanks

Is this your first phone? LOL. I'm just joking.
For these newer and advanced devices, you don't have to fully charge it to use it. It's already charged for you already. i think it's about 70%-75% charge when you first turn it on. It doesn't make a difference if you put the sim card in after or before. It just doesn't matter. If for whatever reason when you pop in the sim card into the device and your carrier doesn't promptly show up, reboot the device and it should appear.
lol no of course its not my first phone.
It's just that I heard that someone said that it's best to charge the phone when one receives it. About the sim card, it just interested me.
Thanks.

I used mine straight out the box no charge and no Sim card for a few days till I could make it to pick up a micro Sim. One thing I suggest though is at the very least unlock the boot loader because it wipes everything including SD card.

First thing to do on every Nexus device, even before booting into Android the first time is: boot into the bootloader and unlock it.
Yep first thing I did after the initial turn on and have a quick play around, was unlock the bootloader and install custom recovery, kept it stock for about a week, but then my curiosity got the better of me.

[Q] Do you need to turn off the phone before swapping a fresh battery?

I never do, so I'm wondering if I'm damaging my phone by doing this? So far, I have experienced no problems but wanted to ask just to be sure.

You should power off, yes...
These little toys we hold in our hands are almost the equivalent of a desktop PC from a few years ago. It needs to finish writing data to memory so you won't loose information. If it was writing important data there is a slight chance you can corrupt information and cause issues.
Better to be safe than sorry....
How does it remain on?
Are you connected to a power outlet?

I just take off the cover and remove the battery and put in a fresh 100% one?
I don't plug it in before I do that?
I just mainly do this because I'm too lazy to wait for it to shut down.

that's ok, no problem
but it shoud be better if you shut down the phone before swapping the battery.

What will happen if I don't? Does anyone know for sure if it damages your data?

No one can know for sure what happens in this case...
In most cases it is safe without any damages, as you already did it. However in some rare case there might be a electric shock that can damage the data, who knows...

If the system was writing something to internal memory or SD card, it can get corrupted if power is disrupted in the middle. If it was cache or something less important, it should be no problem, since we can wipe whole cache with no harm, but if it's something more important, then you'll be posting here about your phone not working properly or dead sd card. As a matter of fact check lost.dir on your SD card, if you have one. If anything is there, those are unalocated blocks containing data from corrupted files, so you could recover at least some part of the data.

[Q] Battery Swelled.

Hello.
I have a Nexus 4 and I think the battery swelled, so swelled it cracked the screen and the back of the phone is kinda poping out.
I would be able to take it to the store to do a check just in a couple of days, but in the mean time, is it dangerous?
I turned the phone off and planning to turn it on to retrive some data and factory reset it.
The battery could blow up or something?
Thanks in advance!

This is definitely serious and seems to be a manufacture's defect. Call Google Support immediately and try not charging the phone for long periods of time. If you can, use a loaner phone if you have one.

Thank you.
The phone is about 3 years old and the battery is still the same battery, So I guess Google won't help a lot, plus, they don't really have representative in my country.
I turned the phone off but I need to get some data from it, is it okay if I would turn it on and retrive the data?
I got a new phone already but I need the data.
