[Q] How: Search full contact info on JB/N7 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On my Gingerbread phone I had to install an app to enable full searching of the contact record (non-primary fields like custom fields). The app is 'Contact Search' Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gnugu.contactsearchplus
I thought that I had read that this was fixed in JB/N7...
But when searching in Gesture Search or People, it isn't searching all of the fields. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need an app to fix this?
Update: When searching via the google search bar, I clicked on menu, tablet search and verified that People was checked... under that option it said "search names of contacts" confirming what I am experiencing...
Update 2: I know that when searching contacts on my desktop PC, it does search the whole contact but I am trying to accomplish this from my N7...
Thanks!

Not really understanding the question. Are you trying to find contacts by another source other than names?
Otherwise I can type/voice the name in the Google search and it finds my contact.

Using Google contact pics instead of Facebook.

If I have a Facebook account and would like to keep my contacts linked... why can I not select Google as my picture source? The only option is Facebook. I want to use the pictures 'I' choose for my contacts, not their Facebook pics. I know the Incredible lets you select Google as the source of your pics.
I really don't want to keep my contacts un-linked.
Thanks guys.

I'm also trying to figure this one out. I also had the option to choose my pic source on my Evo 4g. It must be a HTC option.
Anyone know if its possible on the Droid x?
Im also trying to figure this out and also the display name some of my contacts are using their facebook nick name instead of the phone book name. it is very confusing and id like to also fix this as well.

Google maps.

When using Google maps and then going into my stared items all the things I add like my my sisters address doesn't have the call tab option. How can get a number linked. The option is there for stuff I have searched for off the net and got the contact from that.

I think this may work, not too sure as I haven't used the feature yet, but on google maps, go in to menu>more>lab>bubble buttons, this is in a beta phase.
Just enabled all the Google labs features and they are good. However that was noty point. I want to be able to use the call tab in stared places for contacts I have manual added eg my sisters address. Even when I link it Ty maps contact is doesn't enable the call tab. This feature only works for stared items added from internet search which have a contact number in culled on the review eg mc Donalds in London.

Great idea! Please submit a request to Google so they may consider sorting this out in a future version of Google Maps
I don't really understand when this feature would be useful. Are you saying you want to go through Google Maps > Starred Items to call a contact? Why not just go into your contacts and call them?
Just want to know how to do it.

Few Questions

First off I have to say I really love the wealth of information on these forums. By far the best on the web.
I have rooted. Installed cwm. Backup current rom in cwm.
I'm thinking of trying dj05 if the rumored update doesn't come this week and maybe jts clean rom.
My question primarily is on getting my contacts restored. Use vzw backup or export to SD and then import into new contacts app? Too many to lose or have to try to manually reenter.
Second with say the clean Tom does Google now work when tapping the search softkey instead of Bing?
Looked through as much starter info as I could and saw nothing on the contacts issue

Global Directory Search

Hi, can I search the Global Directory of my company or Lookup a contact information from the original mail for exchange client without the need of TouchDown help?

When creating a new Email for your Exchange account, you can click in Online button next to the Search field after you enter a few characters. This searches in the global address book. After you've found someone, select email address in the contact information.
I haven't found out yet how to browse the global address book and add contacts from there to your local phone. Even WM could do this...
I use the following app: https://market.android.com/details?id=net.vivekiyer.GAL
H.
Just start typing the name. Automatically searches the directory using the server! B-)

No it's not working like this on mine! Wonder if there are any settings needs adjusting! Whenever I start typing a name, it only gives relevant names already on my contacts.

Now this is the most useful trick! I got it thank you! Though it is strange to work only from the new email window while it doesn't from inside the normal contacts manager! The function exists, but not very well utilized! Thank you again

Working perfectly on mine. I need to type 3 letters and after that the online button appears, then I just select the organization and press search and voila!

Yes I managed to make this but only from inside a New Mail Compose Window. Not from the normal contacts management application.

People app question.

For some reason only a very small number of my contacts appear in my People app. If I open Gmail I have over 50 entries, but only about 10 are listed in my People app. Any idea how to get everyone to show up in my People app?
Thanks!

When in doubt, give the device a reboot. If that doesn't work, log into Gmail and reset the sync contacts part (take the tick off that, save it, go back in and re-enable). If these two things don't work, I'm out of ideas.
