about C9O - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Where do you guys get a C9O batch of Nexus 7? I went to 3 officedepot stores but could not find C9O. All of them are C6O and C8O, so I just went and left without taking any. As I see, 32GB version is CAO, so I guess they are produced in October.

I have a C90 32gb bought from Staples in Phoenix (Camelback location) yesterrday. No screen lift, colors look good to me.

I have a c9o 16gb and screen lift is worse than any of the c7o I've owned. Problem is I bought this one here in the xda mp, so I'm stuck with it.

My 32GB c90 came from Sams Club

Game Stop - about two weeks ago. At the time two different stores each had two C90s in stock. Mine has had zero issues.

Just bought the 32g tonight at GameStop. I had 3 8g and 2 16g, they all had problems. No screen lift with the 32.

Mine is ca0 32gb from Office depot in Kentucky. I think it was the only one they had in stock...

My first 32 from office depot was a CAO and the screen was completely washed out, it was horrible. Went back and the guy grabbed one and it was a C9O. The screen was much better, colors more like my 16 C8O. Slight screen lift but something I can live with to keep the better screen.

Not sure, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to their build quality. Maybe different production lines or materials.
Where did you get yours? My 32 is from office depot, the 16 from Walmart. There seems to be little complaints from people that purchased from Walmart (insert conspiracy theory here).

My C90K 32 looks great. I had 4 bad playstore ones 2 80s and 2 70s. I had 2 bad c80 from walmart (screen lift, one really really bad.) 1 bad from staples (3 dead pixels) My 32gb I got at staples and is problem free so far. Lets hope the luck holds out.

I have a C80 with no issues.

[Q]What are the chances i will get a broken unit ?

I saw a lot of threads like this today :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1811765
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1811915
and it really makes me start worrying about my unit which i ordered from Google .
what are the chances that i will get a broken unit ? i saw ppl saying they got 3 bad nexus 7 one after the other !
is there a big problem with the units from Google right now or these ppl are 1 to a million and i am freaking out for no reason ?
Plz help calm me down  thank you .
I'd say very good chance!
But hope you get a good one, I hope third times a charm for me.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Xparent SkyBlue Tapatalk 2
There only one way to find out if you are going to get a broken unit. Reading those threads will make you paranoid, people don't make threads about their nexus 7 with no defects.
I think maybe a 20% chance you get a defective tablet.
Without knowing how may units were sold and how many defective units there were no one can answer this accurately. Some things to keep in mind.
1. This forum is full of people that are connoisseurs of electronic devices.
2. The people that are happy with their devices do not complain.
As a sample data point. I know of 7 people that bought the nexus 7. 6 from the playstore and one from Game Stop. None of them have defects. So I would guess the odds are low that you will get a defective device. But with there is an inherent margin of defects in any production run.
People tend to ***** more when something doesn't work than when something does. Don't worry about it. Think of all of us happy owners.

I've been wondering this myself. Mine has screen flicker pretty bad and some screen seperation. I'm going to exchange he mine when staples gets more in. If I didn't have the flicker problem I wouldn't worry about it.

I've had three bad units. Going to wait awhile before I order again.

My 8GB unit got here on 8/1 and right off the bat I noticed a light leak all along the left hand side of the screen (portrait), as well as slight screen raise along the left bezel. Still deciding whether to RMA or keep it. 12 days left.
Edit: I hadn't noticed the flicker because I keep it at full brightness. The second I lowered it to about 50%, it started flickering when loading web pages and in a few other spots.
Got mine from the Google play store today and mine is perfect. Give or take a few days to really see how it holds up. Colors look fine, no light leaks, dead pixels or screen displacement. My cousin also ordered his around the same time I did and his is also perfectly fine. Perhaps Google corrected some of the issues when they restocked the 16gbs this past week?

Unlucky or poor QC?

About to return my 4th Nexus 7.
1 - Screen bleed (C60)
2 - Screen lift (C70)
3 - Died/stopped charging (C80)
4 - Screen flicker at low brightness (C90)
Do ASUS do any QC before sending these things out? I love the device (number 3 was great for 6 weeks until it died) but concerned about whether the replacement will break. Are others having similar problems or am I just really unlucky? Getting tempted to cut my losses and get a refund.

Sample testing, probably. They'll pull a device every x number of devices produced and run it through some tests.
It does seem like Asus is letting the QC be done by the end user after the device has left the factory.

You are very unlucky based on my n=3 sample of Nexus 7 owners
None of us have any such problems :fingers-crossed:
Unlucky. I ordered two, and both are perfect. But sometimes you get unlucky. I had three bad blackberries in a row once, and BB were not known for bad QC. Just luck of the draw.

Keep number 4 and put tape over the WiFi GND to fix the flicker. Doesn't impact WiFi signal in any noticeable way.

I think they all have the low backlight flicker issue however if you disable Prism it stops. This means it's software not hardware and could be addressed by Google someday.
Or document your string of bad luck on devices and work your way into a free upgrade to a 32gb n7. Win!

1 Lonely dead pixel (2013)

Recently bought my New Google Nexus 7 (2013) from Bestbuy this past Saturday. and I've loved it, and will keep on loving it. but I noticed one small, lonesome, scared, dead pixel around the left hand corner. Normally this wouldn't bother me, but considering I'm still in the 14 day warranty I was wondering should I honestly waste my time, get perhaps a new unit and maybe the new unit could be worse than the one i currently own?
There's absolutley nothing wrong with the current unit I own, besides the Dead Pixel. and was curious if anyone else had the same issue? would you suggest returning it, and actually get what I truly want. or should i just forget about it. I mean it's pretty hard to see, but just knowing that it's that is just killing me. I have OCD and this is not helping it :|
All comments are welcomed.
Also, does anyone else notice a rattle noise coming from the rear, back camera when you tap on it? not to worried about it. but just wondering if it's something TOO worry about.
Well, I would say bring it back to Best Buy, especially since you are still in the return period. That's what it's for! And if the new one is worse than that one, you can return it too!
I stayed in the parking lot of best buy playing with mine until I was satisfied. I exchanged one within an hour of using it. My second one was perfect! No light bleed or any issues!

I've picked up my 32Gb on saturday and haven't looked back to the 16gb. from what I've heard it gets full quick, and when i first looked at my total storage it said I had 25 Gigs left, so I can only imagine what 16Gb had left.
Got mine via Amazon and it had 4 dead pixels, sent it back and my second one is perfect, no dead pixels.
If it had been one dead pixel, I'd probably still send it back for replacement. So I say get a replacement.
I got a dead pixel too
Going to staples tomorrow and exchange it. I got it from staples online.
Can someone recommend the best app for testing pixels, light bleed, touch sensitivity, etc? I remember using them on my 1st gen N7 but I can't remember which ones.

i usually turn brightness all the way up, go into a dark room, google deal pixel test and use any
to check for light bleed use dark black ground and check around edged... rotate other colors to check for dead pixels.. pixels are tiny on this 1080p 7" screen
for multi touch look up multi touch tester on googple play and download the app

How is ASUS warranty for nexus 7 bought from amazon US, shipped to Australia?
If i get any problems, i'll probably just live it i guess, the price you pay for being an early adopter
the problem is that you may return this and then get one with 5 dead pixels and dust under the screen. it may take you 6 exchanges and a headache before you're happy. there's no quality control on these at all so you really have to decide. I have dust under mine and a tiny dead pixel on my 2nd one.. returned the first for a dead pixel. I'm keeping the second.. idc anymore.

Mine has a dead pixel and Like others said, it's kind of hard to notice as its only 1 and it's not really worth it for me to keep going back and returning it as another one may have bigger problems, it's up to you as it obviously shoyldnt have one so you definitely have a right to get a new one so if you don't mind definitely get a new one, I'm leaving to go back to England tomorrow so don't have the time/patience to get a new one, will probably get it repaired a few months down the line

Condition you got your tablet in.

What's the condition you got your tablet in? Were there any defects?
Prostrate. Definitely prostrate. Tablet was perfect though. Mods - humor can only be suppressed so far.

Factory sealed.
Why do you ask?
Are people getting used, physically damaged ones?
Odd question. Regardless, my 32 gig unit from Memory Express in Calgary, Alberta was perfect, the box was in great shape, fully sealed and not damaged. The tablet had it's plastic protector wrapped around it, all accessories also as expected.

Maybe they're asking if it arrived without any defects?
IDK....
Mine was Ø defects.
I don't know exactly if this is suppose to be like this...But I've noticed that my N7 Gen2 arrived with these strange little "knicks", "dings" or indents...Whatever you wanna call them....Right between where the edge of my device is and where the screen starts.
It's a very minor defect if it is one...So I won't be returning it as everything else is perfect on it, and isn't exactly worth the hassle.
Like others, mine was factory sealed, the battery had about a 40% charge (I picked it up at a local Staples store).
My n7 came factory sealed but it has an oil slick on the back around the nexus label. In addition, I have noticed some of the reported problems with the gps and momentary freezing when I'm using a browser. Otherwise, I am quite happy with my n7.

Hmm...I tried taking pictures...But they're pretty small, and I don't exactly have a super good camera (N4). The pictures I tried taking, just had light reflecting in the area I'm talking about.
Here is what I got:
!NOTE!: The very bright part at the top isn't what im talking about..Thats just light reflecting...But you can sort've make out in the very corner, the "dings" I was talking about. This is all around the device in the crack between where the screen (glass/whatever) and the device edge. As I said...Its minor for me, and not really worth taking back.

Odd, I thought I was the only one. Picked mine up at a local Wal-Mart on a whim and was expecting a pristine N7 like my first four 2012 N7s. Checked the seals on the box just in case and they were all good, but was surprised to see what looked like a smudge/fingerprint on the screen after taking off the plastic (not mine, obviously) as well as little nicks on the top left edge right in between the screen and the back. Almost looks like as if someone tried to pry the thing open... the device itself works perfectly with no issues so I'm still trying to decide if it's worth taking a gamble and exchanging it for a new one.
Brand new. Still sealed. No issues or problems so far. 32GB Model Nexus 7

Picked first at Staples had been opened (seal on white box ropes) and plastic taken off abs it was already on. The screen was just off. In fact I looked at battery stats and it showed the tablet on just for a sec and not awake until 7 days later when I got it. I returned BC it had a dead pixel. Second was sealed and all however I am having multi touch issues. Just my luck.

Nexus 7 (2013) cracked, proberly overheating

I got a nexus 7 2013, and it cracked what I think was from overheating.
I played real racing 3 on it, on max settings. It did get really hot, but it does anyway.
Anyway, went put it down on a wooden surface, and then watched an episode of family guy. When I finished watching it, I picked it up, and there was a crack, left of the camera (about 2CM, 0.7 inches).
I wasn't using a case.
Only parts of the digitizer works. Bottom half works, middle doesn't, but left and right does but has lots of ghost touches.
Should I send it back to amazon or asus?
It was rooted before, but I have been able to put it to all stock, unrooted, ect.

I am not sure that the heat would have anything to do with the crack. I have heard complaints about random cracked screens. How recent is your purchase of the nexus 7? I would talk to Amazon and try to get a replacement because amazon has much better customer service than Asus.

In that case amazon probably won't be of much help, although I would still try them first.
Then try Asus and I hope they will be able to do something because the screen should not crack for no apparent reason
