[Q] Streaming video - Acer Iconia A500

I've been using the vulkano player app for about 2 years .
on all honcomb roms it works fine
all roms above that starting from ICS stock to every ICS to JB the player video stops working and becomes unusable until i reboot the unit. (A500)
I also have a galaxy 7 the player runs fine on ICS Stock/ROOT/cm10/baked beans and so on (tried to get help on the vulkano- no soap)
any one else have this problem ?
ps: thanks to all members of the forum of this form .. when I first started rooting my tablets it took hours to get a rooted version and now because you guys it takes less then 10 minutes to go back to any rom . thanks and
thanks for any help on the above

No help from the app developer? Might be time to find a new app!
Have you tried other players?

can't give up
The app is made for android so you can watch tv over network /internet-Wirelessly . It's the main reason i got a acer A500 (10 inch wireless tv lol)
i cooked< i think that's the term> my 1st rom yesterday ...but ended up having to get another launcher ....tv app runs good on it .
the tv app seem to be the program for me to check for leaks
IF it cant stream like in honeycomb then i am probably going to find problem using other apps that are flash related .... as it will do the same with video.
i see that a lot of JB roms have a bad problem with the lock rotation button..

so no one besides me uses the vulkano player app on the A500 besides me
OR does every one that has it , it works fine for them ?

[Q] video playback

So video runs pretty flawless when i watch stuff from prime. When i watch netflix or stream from the browser the audio is off a little. Is there anyway to help this at all.
I am rooted btw.
I have found no solution to this using all combinations of stock, CM7, and intersectRaven's kernel. It is present in all video players that I have tried meaning that it is probably an issue with the audio hardware/drivers. The latest version of netflix is by far the worst with at least a half second delay in audio. I have found this post which makes it possible to use old versions of Netflix. Versions 1.3.0 and 1.4.0 work fine (fine being only a very slight delay in audio).
Edit: I have not tried Prime. If it works flawlessly then that rules out the audio hardware or drivers.
i'm playing local and network streamed videos with mx player - they are fully sync - it's definitely not the hardware - i assume netflix and amazons streaming services are buggy - youtube is also sync
btw. there are some other threads about this ...
My netflix is almost perfectly in sync... it might be off by a few milliseconds, like 2 but its only noticable if you stare at their mouths and are really looking for it. Did i just get lucky?
Thanks! The Netflix 1.4 works pretty much spot-on, barely any noticeable sync issues.

Maybe its a problem with flash version that the kindle comes with. I'm gonna try the older netflix.

Netflix Problem

I'm using Infamous Rom 1.2 and been asking this queston but haven't gotten a response so i'm trying it here Does anyone know if there is fix for netflix. Everytime i open it and try watching a movie it starts to play then it freezes then the app crashes.
Sadly, this problem was there since the day of the official ICS release. Neither Netflix nor Samsung has provided a fix and every ROM that builds on the official ROM has the problem. The "solution" is to change your Netflix video quality settings to "Better Quality": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29623239&postcount=40

Thanks for the help it worked now daughter can watch netflix again
I'm currently on CM9 so the problem doesn't exist for me anymore but did the last Netflix update help with that problem?
Can you watch Netflix in HD with the stock ICS ROM or custom ROMs build on the stock ROM again?
The only problem I see so far is that it really wants to freeze, but it doesn't.
It kind of lags up 10-20 seconds in but keeps playing.
Tested it on known HD movies/shows.
I don't know if it's the new Netflix version from 09/06 or if it's the new russian ICS release from samfirmware I just flashed (build date 08/23). Netflix runs great again! No stutter when switching streams and no freezes on the HD stream either!

[Q] YouTube HD playback constantly buffering

I didn't want to make a thread for this specific issue but after searching I can't seem to find a definitive answer!
Does anyone else suffer from constant buffering with HD playback on the YouTube app and is this something that can be fixed??
Firstly I have a 60Mb/3Mb connection with a good strong wireless signal. We have numerous wireless devices around the house and none of them seem to be affected by this problem. I can have my Nexus 7 within 1 metre of my router and i'm lucky if I can get through 10 seconds of HD playback without it buffering, my laptop however will happily stream 1080p whilst i'm sitting in the garden!?
The Transformers movie on the play store has no problems at all, it plays smoothly no matter where I am in the house. It can even handle me skipping through sections and resumes playback almost instantly. I'm convinced the problem is with YouTube but don't really know how/if i can fix it. I have tried clearing the cache, reverting to a previous version and completely removing it and reinstalling yet the problems persist. SD playback is vastly better but it still has it's problems from time to time.
My device is completely stock running 4.1.2 (upgraded earlier today OTA). Apart from this issue I love the Nexus and don't really have any desires to root at present. I'm 31 with 2 children and my own business so I don't have the time to put into learning it all and keeping up with everything, 10 years ago things would have been very different!
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this was one of the main reasons I bought the tablet.
I have the same problem. It's very embarrassing when you try to show off the tablet to friends :-\

I also get this on most of my devices, seems like a YouTube problem.
Same here

Just glad I'm not the only one. Thought it was my connection.:what:

I also have experienced this problem. It only happens with the YouTube on the N7. It doesn't happen on my iPhone or my laptop. I wish there was some way to fix it.

i have the same problem it really sucks
Look at post #267. A combination of SmoothROM and Bricked Kernel, both of which I've used in the past and are great, resolved the issue for one user.

It's somewhat comforting knowing i'm not suffering with this alone. . . This can't be right though surely!?
Whilst trying to fix the issue last night I did manage to stream a full HD 10 min video with no buffering, something that hasn't happened for a while. Strangely it worked right after using the speedtest.net app to test my connection. I don't even know if it's possible for one app to affect the other but the same video had buffering issues minutes before I ran the test. It's probably just a well timed coincidence but I thought it was worth mentioning.
I guess now we have to hope that Google get their act together and fix the site/app. They certainly receive enough in ad revenue, which always play flawlessly

I'm on stock 4.1.2 after a full reinstall, I can't recreate the issue. Out of curiosity can you go to settings > apps > all > youtube and clear the cache, does it help at all?

It's no different after clearing the cache unfortunately, that's one of the first things I tried. I'm guessing the next step is a full reinstall too. I'll have to look into backup options without root, which i'm guessing is pretty limited?
First world problems eh?
Same Problem. I noticed the only way to get the vids to move is to toggle between hd and regarding when it freezes up. Very annoying to say the least. I just use the browser now. No probs.

I thought that I have problem with my router. Guess not. BTW I found "solution" which works for me. As soon as video starts buffering, turn off the screen, then on, unlock and press play on video and enjoy your video without buffering.

Anyone figure out a fix for this?

no solution, but the same problem. Bugs the hell out of me. My workaround has been to switch to SD which of course is a bit crap. When I get within reach of a wifi connection I'll try clearing cache/uninstalling updates etc. Not keen on rooting and installing new Rom/kernel as a solution to be honest.

Running 4.2 now makes no difference I'm afraid. Cleared cache and data, left updates. Still buffers uncontrollably. That said, the tip earlier tint he thread of turning off the screen, turning it back on and unlocking, then playing the video worked very well. It played HD video for 3 minutes straight with no buffering. Then a small/short buffer (acceptable) and now buffering again for the remained of the video @ 7 minutes. does this lend any information to lead to a root cause? Willing to work for a solution .
I wanted to update my situation seeing as I started this thread.
I recently moved home and changed internet provider and all of my issues with YouTube have gone away. I have gone from a 60Mb down / 3Mb up fibre optic service with Virgin Media (where I had nothing but issues). Now on a 4Mb down / .3Mb up ADSL service with Sky.
HD YouTube videos play flawlessly from everywhere I want to use my Nexus! It's not just YouTube though as pretty much everything that works from the internet is running a lot faster on my device now. I wish I could offer more of a solution but I can only say that I don't think it's a problem with the Nexus 7/YouTube app.
Yep. I found solution in some other thread. You gotta change modem or update firmware on it. I called my ISP requesting modem firmware update, they came and put new modem instead. Even better. Wish I knew about this solution before I bought new router. Oh well...at least now I have dual band so its not total waste of money.
same
So was the problem your modem, router or actual ISP? While my VDSL2 modem is capable of being a router, I have it setup in pass-through (bridge) mode to my DLINK DIR-655 router which handles everything. What exactly in the firmware is causing the slow-down just for youtube on the N7 (and not other computers)?

Google Play Movies & TV Shows only audio, no video!?

Hey guys, I purchased some free tv shows from the Play Store and wanted to try them out, but i only get audio and a black screen, no video. Any idea what it could be? I'm on Paranoid Android 3.10, M-Kernel. Even my old Transformers movie in the Movie App isnt showing anymore.
Edit: It works on my Galaxy Note. Weird that it wouldnt work on my Nexus 7.

Possibly related, possibly not - the Play Store stopped recognising my device as a Nexus 7 yesterday. I was on Stock rooted, with M-Kernel, the TabletUI patch, and an icons patch.
When I opened the Play Store yesterday (it all worked fine before) I got a T&C pop-up that I accepted, and then It didn't think I had an N7. I restored a backup I made that only had Rooted & M-Kernel but the problem persisted. I booted up the device this morning and all was back to normal. Got another T&C pop-up and everything worked again.
Not sure of the cause
Have you guys rooted the device?

I have, a while back, but this is the first time I noticed something now working. I assumed it was to do with me messing with the DPI (to give it the Table UI) but the issue persisted when I rolled back to a previous backup in TWRP. It was all okay this morning though.

+1 to this just happened to me today' has worked before, can't seem to get it working again, using paranoid 3.1 (self built from sources and no other problems in the least). Going to keep trying, but very weird the audio plays without video. Thought maybe it would be a DRM issue, but that would throw an error code on screen and refuse to do anything (have had that happen before). I wonder if maybe the 4.2.2 sources need more work (like the Bluetooth not working at all without a patch. If you have newest OTA you would not be issuing same android version Google is holding it back only allowing beta testers to use it (custom ROMs do use it like paranoid).

Lenovo YOGA2 PRO 13" Experiences

Hi,
I own the YOGA2 PRO for 2 month now and on the one hand hand I like the tablet (nice display, battery is ok, projector is much better than expected, ...)
But on the other hand I am very unsatisfied with the software.... apps are crashing, streaming of video does not really work, some times the tablet just does not wake up from standby, etc...
Unfortunately there is no custom ROM available and as it seems an upgrade to 5.0 is not officially planned...
What are your experiences? Are you satisfied with your tablet?
Especially annoying is the fact that video streaming does not work for me. I like to stream (HD) TV from my Coolstream Zee SAT Receiver to the tablet but I did not find a app that is working for me yet. It basically works with upnp app + MX Player or VLC but with both players is starts to freeze and stutter after some time (about 20min.) and I have to reboot the tablet... (however local video files work fine) Does anyone know a way to fix this?
Got mine last weekend.
Some small issues at first, but got two OTA upgrades same day.
Uppgraded and factory reset, no problems so far.
Its wise to factory default after a major OTA, sometimes also small ones.
I avoided the factory reset AS i dont want to lose all APP data but maybe should do it anyway... :\
