A topic for Samsung - Galaxy S III General

As a fairly new owner of a galaxy s3 and I have never used an android before I have loved your phone from the beginning.
Then I thought what else can I do to it to make it even better.
Open android was drawn to me because it gives users of your devices the option to modify their device the way they want to.
This doesn't take away the fact that it was your company that built the phone or the software inside it just means that we can get more out of the phone than you intended.
Since having this phone I have told others about it and what it can do and have even got others to think about owning one too.
This is from word of mouth that your sales increase, the more options available to your phones the more your sales will increase.
Closing the door on that option will decrease sales, word of mouth will get smaller and people will go elsewhere to buy phones with more to offer.
Why not think of the people that build roms and mods and make kernels to modify your devices free developers and the people who modify their phones and tell others free advertising.
You can't go wrong.
If it's only money you are after then money you will receive.

Then why post it, I didn't see anything specific or useful in your comment. If it's about exynos, a thread already exists. That's the only thing that's being demanded.

Wow bro you clearly have no idea...
what do you think how many people actually root their Android phone? Id guess something like 5% and believe me samsung wants to keep this number as low as possible because if there are huge advantages in rooting more people would do it. if they unlocked everything and gave the community every possible driver you know what would happen?
The Galaxy S4 came out in March or so and nobody would buy it. maybe it has a 12mp camera more efficient processor but if it runs the exact same firmware as the s3, much less people would buy it. the changes would be too small. Hardware and Software are the only things that you buy from samsung. if they handed out the newest software for every phone they built, they would lose that factor for new phones they wanna sell.
Apple did the same thing with the 4S. do you think the i phone 4 cant run siri? oh but it can but the changes in the 4s were so small that they needed something new. since the hardware did change much they had to improve the software.

Samsung Stratusphere closest Galaxy S variant to the Epic...maybe

So as my old thread kinda pointed out before, the Samsung slider Verizon was getting was awfully similar to our Epics in appearance. And guess what? it is real and it's being released soon. So what I found to be interesting about it is that it runs on the exact same hardware as the Epic! Well, that is, excluding the processor -__- while we have a single core 1ghz processor, the Verizon slider will sport a dualcore 1.2ghz processor. The real reason behind this post is this: this to me sounds like the closest sibling our Epic has in the Galaxy S family thus far, so with the processors being the only real difference, will we be able to port anything from it over to the Epic and/or will their source help us in any way to further advance development on our Epics? Hmmm...

Well, that one would hurt. So, they have a stable, problem free Cingerbread on that phone already? EDIT..it doesn't say that's going to be dual core for certain. They are comparing the stats of the Galaxy S2

So there still might be some hope for us afterall. The mandatory 18 month support deal google is enforcing now means that this Verizon slider will hopefully get up to ICS, and if we can hopefully find something useful from it ( like port some of its ROMs, kernels, use some of its source) then we might have a shot at extending the Epics "life" right? I'm being hopeful because as bad as I want to jump ship to a new device, I'm not ready to give up my physical keyboard just yet.
EDIT: ok, just reread it JC and your right. As of now, all the hardware specs coincide with our Epics, the processor it will be porting is yet to be announced. It does say it'll be a "budget phone" in another article I read, so considering high end devices at the moment are sporting dual core processor 1.2ghz and up, I'm willing to be it will also be a 1ghz single core like ours

Unfortunately I wouldn't doubt it. The Galaxy S line(Not 2) was handled horribly. We should have been like Samsungs personal nexus line with support and updates, but not a single phone got that. Which isn't bad in all truth. But it could have went better with ICS coming soon.
Also aren't we still within 18 months? It's been a year but not too much over it.
Sent from my Epic 4G
Yeah especially if we were basically Samsung's testers for Gingerbread on another similar device. I don't know enough about development to know if ROMs could be easily ported from it
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Everything I saw about the stratosphere showed it to be exactly like the epic, just for VZW. Been waiting for it as my girlfriend has VZW and her renewal is this month. And the leaked pics I've seen of it show 2.3.4, so maybe if we're lucky we'll see the source for that and can put something together from it if we don't see official GB released by then..

The 18 month support policy wasn't being enforced until just recently so our Epic's, I'm guessing, won't get further than GB (officially speaking of course) Korey also stated that GB would be the final "dying breath" of the Epic support wise. So this could be our final chance at a big helping hand in development...

Highly doubt this will be relevant at all. Thinking there will be similarities in driver code is akin to thinking there was going to be similarities in our epics and other galaxy s's. And we all know how well that turned out.

Well what this handset has that the rest of the other handsets dnt is the hardware keyboard which I heard was a problem devs had a rough time with considering the other galaxy s counter parts had no hardware keyboard. Also, the rest of the hardware matches perfectly, all we need is the processor to be announced. I'm thinking this handset will help us out a bit somehow, but then again, I'm no dev, so take my "hopefulness" with a grain of salt

Accidently thanked you...
The camera will be different(1.3megapixel ffc) we have a .3megapixel
The keyboard however will be the same, 4 android butttons 4 capacitive android buttons 4" screen, the 5megapixel cam the same.

I think it will be similar. Verizon rehashed the Evo a little less than a year later. Verizon only has 1 dual core 4G phone. Finally, Verizon said they weren't getting a GSII variant and if this was dualcore, it would probably be considered a GSII variant just like the epic is.
Well they also have a better screen because they have a super amoled plus instead of a super amoled so they don't have to deal with weird subpixels.
Epic 4G, is that you?

Hey guys ive just discovered nexus 4 and i think its an amazing device .. But im worried about the low price ... Is something wrong or something? :S
Please can someone who has a nexus 4 tell me everything and say how awesome this device is

Price is low because you are buying the phone straight from Google and they are interested in you using their software rather than making money off the device like other companies. It's an amazing device on par with other flagship's.

To me, the ONLY negative is the lack of SD card slot. So you are only limited to 16gb of storage, and that's not the entire amount available to you. And coming from a device with 64gb storage it was a hard pill to swallow lol. I figured I needed a "diet" of apps and data anyways.
I absolutely love the phone and amount of love the devs have had developing for it thus far. I also still have my old Nexus one in storage .

If you want a lot of storage on hand and not in the cloud this phone is not for you. You can use thumb drives but unlike other devices you will need a power source and a y-OTG cable. As stated before the low price is simply to get you to use Google software and in my opinion the limited storage is a not so subtle push to get you to use Drive. This is my first phone with an embedded battery and it's surpassed my expectations. I get over 24 hours with minimal usage and 8 hours with what for me is heavy usage, this includes streaming music for 2 hours for my commute and my data is always on. Like the previous poster said, this is a great device. To optimize battery life, root and buy SetCPU.

Like the past repliers, low price is there because google is focused on the software, rather than making a lot of money off of their phones. It's a really great device, and I plan on using for a very long time (unless I get a N5 when it comes out, of course.) It's well worth the cost if you can get one. Even the it isn't the best phone out right now specs wise, it's still one of the best overall. It may not have the best amount of memory, but I easily overlook that with dropbox and box.

I was afraid about the low price as well but Google doesnt even want to make money on Nexus. They just want you to use their software and develop maybe!
So, just open your wallet and purchase one Nexus or two maybe! Then unlock it and flash custom ROMs and kernels!

At least without me, your device won't have a cheesy code name like r2g2.
Considering the fact that this phone is going to be on pretty much all the carriers, it should be good to go when the time comes to development.

Like a removable battery and sdcard slot. That to me means a lot. I hate having a battery I can't remove and/or upgrade. I rather buy a cheaper phone memory wise and be able to put a sdcard in it. $100 for an upgrade from a 32gb to a 64gb is just crazy. I can buy 2 64gb cards for $100 bucks and have 5 times the memory on hand. I am waiting to find out when the Note 3 is coming out and what it really has to offer to make up my mind.

The Note is much larger though, which will turn some folks off.
it is, but only by .4 inches. Its not like they are comparing the S3/S4 size against the Note 3. Some people will be turned off, but some people might like a bigger screen that has styus. I get turned off by smaller sized screens. Every phone that I have had has been bigger than the last except when I upgraded from the Evo to Evo 3D.
This phone will be fine. LG is quickly becoming Samsung chief competitor. They too make the Smart Tv's which integrate with the phones, and are basically able to match Samsung step for step. There are people who cannot stand Samsung for whatever reason and will be all over this phone. HTC has always been my preference but I'm gonna give this phone a thorough once over and may jump on board the LG wagon.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The launch time could be a blessing or a curse. The pro is that there aren't many flagship phones (read: not phablets) being launched right now and thus this will be ahead of most things on the market, unlike in Spring, when HTC and Samsung both release products with nearly identical specs. Unfortunately for LG though, this could mean people will wait for the next "Galaxy" or next HTC device (HTC 2? HTC One Jr.?) or maybe next Xperia.
Came here cuz I'm wondering about development too. The OG actually has a lot of development and development is just getting started in the GPro. Based on latest Note 3 rumors (take this with a grain of salt) the G Pro can hang with it and it is significantly cheaper. Being on all carriers will help the attraction. Just my 2 cents.

What options you mean? And stylus, why you may need stylus simultaneously with CM/AOSP, there's no wacom drivers for stylus AFAIK so flashing CM makes NoteIII stylusless. Am I wrong?

Yes. Don't forget that G2 is bigger than SGS4 only by .2" and Note III bigger than G2 only by .4" So no big deal in reality. BUT Note III will have lot heavier bezels and therefor will be more bulky and not ergonomic and less gripfriendly
Well we don't fully know what the note 3 will look like exactly, we only speculations so far. The G2 will be good for me though. But honestly I wouldn't mind a note 3 because my next upgrade is November. That's the only reason. But I would really like the G2 because I am in love with my GPro.

If an ordinary consumer has two thousand yuan budget to buy the phone , then boarded a Canadian has the strength recommended list. Of course, we hope that an increase in the next generation of products ( or two plus one plus two ? ) Can be more carefully, to make more , "a plus" products to .

Learn to read Chinese. It will be world largest economy this year. (by GDP PPP). I learn to learn Mandarin in only 6 months. It ain't that hard.
You will see more Chinese phones and technology in the future, it's better to prepare for yourself.
So stop reading Google translate, it's not accurate and it's not capable of translating a lot of the internet and slang talks.
Naw. Learn Cantonese, it's the best Chinese. Or what the hell, learn Cambodian or Swahili. They're probably all equally important in your daily life. You'll never know when you need to read a random Internet review of a phone, or what language it'll be in. In 6 months, you'll finally be able to know if this is the phone for you.

The only thing that is obvious to see is that you completely missed the sarcasm in the post you replied to. Well done.
Anyways, it doesn't matter who has what GDP, XDA uses English (feel free to check the rules).
Also, weren't you not interested in this phone as stated in this thread, where you talked about how the OnePlus was a terrible phone they didn't give it to you for a dollar? I believe the actual phrase you used to describe it was "...this stupid ass company". Change your mind, did you?
