What version of the phone do u have? (International, Dev, GSM?)
Sent from my DROID RAZR MAXX HD!...

XT925 = GSM RAZR HD.
Verizon RAZR HD's bootloader cannot be unlocked through this method.

Have to get the dev edition for unlocked (at least for the moment)

May have to reconsider keeping it until the bootloader gets unlocked. Comfort of having the maxx and its battery life is second to none.

Don't hold your breath. VZW doesn't ever seem to unlock Moto phones.... None of the last gen Moto phones got unlocked, great ROMs from Hashcode and Dhacker regardless. I think they've started work on the HD [MAXX] and M already, though nothing has been released.
http://blog.hash-of-codes.com/downloads/ or http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode
They will probably have some New generation RAZR stuff before anyone else, especially usable CM10/AOKP, and now it looks like they're starting to support CNA port.

It really is a bummer how Motorola basically says "If you unlock your bootloader, you're completely on your own". I know it's the usual and HTC does the same thing, but I wish they'd at least still accept responsibility for unrelated hardware issues that crop up. Like, say, if your power button became unresponsive, the screen developed a fault, or the wireless stopped working.
Then again, I suppose it's possible to wreck just about anything if you have low-level hardware access so maybe it's not so unreasonable. Like, if you tweak the amoled brightness settings you can greatly increase the maximum brightness but you'll be increasing the rate of degradation as well, resulting in an effect similar to "burn-in".
A good compromise would be to by default divide the firmware functions between low-level hardware access and the OS. You'd be able to install Cyanogenmod or whatever but be restricted from modifying the CPU clock or other dangerous things. Then if you want access to those more dangerous things, you can have it but they'll void your warranty... which would be perfectly reasonable and understandable.

Does anyone know why Motorola specifically didn't make a developer edition for the Maxx HD only? Why make the other two, but not the third, in-demand, best-of-the-best option?
I mean, is it just me, or if this had an unlocked bootloader would this not be the absolute best phone available for quite a while?

Any word on bootstrap?

Maybebthey didn't think many would get the HD dev and the Maxx Dev combined? I don't know. Maybe VZW had a problem with it too. I wanted the dev so I settled fofor the HD.

Moto confirmed that verizon will never unlock our bootloaders
And its Verizon's software and they are not allowed to unlock it per the contract
Moto said it could be done very very easy.. but again its Verizon
Looks like it's up to the devs
We need some super devs and a dev RAZR HD. And have them figure it out
Looks like a pretty heavy unlock code
Thing is u submit a unlock code thru the website and they email u ur unlock code
Then u fast boot the code to ur phone
So that tells me the code for ur unlock has to be inside the phone somewhere.. how else would the BL verify the unlock code
We need some dev that can find the spot in the phone where the unlock code is
Hopefully the people with the money that can afford the dev verision will work with the deb's
Verizon is a bunch of software nazis
Also if we could figure out the unlock code our selves... moto or verizon would have no idea
I'm still in talks with moto....I'm hoping I can get them to step outside the norm

My guess is Verizon is holding off on the Droid X update since they are currently releasing the Xoom OTA update which was planned in advance to coincide with Google I/O.

HTC Thunderbolt owners are receiving it as I write this. It is unlikely Verizon will push 2.3.3 to too many different phones simultaneously, to avoid any kind of tech support nightmare.
Edit: my bad...
It's the OTA 2.2.1 update that is currently going out to HTC TB, not the 2.3.3

Hrm, I checked my phone as I read this, per my status line I have 2.3.3.340.MB810.vzn.en.us
I dunno, I think I have had it for a while as well, as my phone doesn't seem any different like it has in the past with updates.
I have noticed after installing Yahoo messenger app that it hangs a lot, but I attribute that to the yahoo app, not the OS update.
I didn't get it either and yesterday afternoon my phone was slow as heck (as if something was going in) but I don't look any different.
2.3.340 is just the system version. The Android version is still 2.2.1. Gingerbread will change that to 2.3.

Asian countries seem to have an edge in acquiring the latest cell phone technology, before the USA. And the best/latest phones always appear in those markets first.
Just a personal observation...
Sent from my unrooted DroidX using XDA App
Nate,
I think some manufacturers are treating Asian countries as beta tests for new phone models to make sure there aren't any big problems so they can have a better release in the "top tier" countries like USA/half of Europe. The countries they release these first in seem to have far, far, far fewer overall options, so if there's a problem there isn't much people can do, lol.

Well when your the country of origin for a product, I would expect you to get info sooner. I don't think China has the lasted Harley Davidson bikes.
Will post asap when it happens
I have a father and brother in law that are unrooted and waiting for OTA. Will post when it happens.
The cellular service model is different in Asian countries too: phones tend to be more expensive, but service (per minute charge) tends to be cheaper. In the USA, phones are cheaper because they are subsidized by the manufacturer/carriers in return for being locked into a 2 year service contract. These types of contracts are illegal in many European countries.

Are you guys talkign about the 2.33 release that is listed here ?

And if yes, why don't you install from here ?. I guess you need root to do that with a PC
If not, then what's new in this release ?

I've been holding off on updating for a while now. I keep telling myself that the official OTA is around the corner, and I won't need to update again for a while (I hate constantly updating my phone).
It's a shame that this phone will probably never see ICS (unless they can hack it off the DX2), but if it's not out by the 26th as stated on Droid-Life, then I'm going the leaked route.

Xperia Z in Japan [SO-02E]

We need a separate thread for the Japanese variant SO-02E, which is significantly different to the world-edition. One seg, IR, and a completely different ROM including the palette UI separate this phone from the rest of the world.
Furthermore, the rom will be locked, the sim-tray will be docomo-locked.
Eventually, we are hoping for a port of the world-Xperia Z ROM to this phone, or even AOSP.
It is out very soon

Correction... Because it's locked to docomo. You can't insert any simcard plus it's bootloader is not unlockable so there won't be any interests on that device here or anywhere on the world.
Also why would it need a new forum? The Xperia ZL is much more deserving than the japanese Z.
Well, I, for one, will be purchasing this phone.
I see more than enough English speaking people getting this phone, for there to be a place to discuss how to modify the Japanese version, especially to accomodate a stock ROM, or PA or something.
I think the thread is far more justified than many others in this forum, but that's unrelated to the topic in hand.

The only reason you'll buy it is if maybe you live on japan and your subscribed to docomo right now. It is not like HTC J Butterfly on which you could use outside japan and insert whatever sim you want. Plus what are you talking about PA or other ROMs? Like I said before it's bootloader is unlockable so you can't flash kernels so no AOSP/CM roms on the jap version.

Can you find a citation from japanese media for non-unlockability? Not saying it might not be true, but I don't trust requoted translated sources.
The XZ is getting incredible levels of buzz in Japan. Most of any handset in any of the carriers' spring lineup by at least 10x.
My contract is not up until end of May though so I can wait and see what the initial fallout is.

I'm not basing my statement on any sources but only on past sony devices.
It's a very common knowledge to all sony verteran users that any sony phone which is carrier locked has an unlockable bootloader. That's where tools like setool2 came grand on the year 2010-2011.

You keep on using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.
Well, we'll all see in 2 weeks. Docomo has been the least locked down of the japanese carriers in recent years, and we're now in the post-Xperia-S-project days. Fortunately I have 3 months for all the reports to trickle down before I can get a new subsidy handset, and there's the alternative of going with the OG Pro (which is competitive with the XZ spec-wise and has 3000mah battery) or the new Fujitsu Arrow.

You're confused. Most carrier phones will have a *locked* bootloader. Unlockable is usually when the phone is purchased outright... you can then unlock via official tools and easily flash a custom rom. There are codes you can put into the dialer to see whether the bootloader can be unlocked, though i don't remember what it is right now
M.
As a user outside Japan, development on docomo version is also appreciated because a dump of some useful apps may be possible.
More hostility than I was expecting! Thanks, y'all

This is not the case with sony. They habitually lock the bootloaders of their phones which are carrier locked like the other guy who posted which I quoted above. Just a quick note. Before you buy the docomo version of Xperia Z please look at this first.
On the
Rooting status:
Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes
If it says "yes". Buy it if "no" then don't and go for the international version. Or else your won't even get any chances of rooting your device, flashing custom ROMs, Remove bloatware, Flashing custom kernels.
You can get to that screen by typing *#*#7378423#*#* on the dialer.
Yep, I know the difference in locking
Mobile at the moment, just took this
What's the screen like on that bad boy? I've read there were all sorts of complaints about the display...blacks not deep enough...something about a yellowish tint...it appears to be ok on some of the pictures here
I'm mainly concerned about the display and battery Life (especially while using LTE)...anyone have any thoughts or information?

There you go I proved my point and theory that every sony phone which is network locked also has a locked out bootloader
I suggest you wait for the international version instead with an unlockable bootloader that way you get to enjoy the phone and enjoy the xda community support it gets. Although I really like the docomo version because it has the IR beam but I guess you can't have everything... So yeah back to Xperia ZL for me...

The black color should be ok but not as great as amoled... because on amoled black colors means the pixels on the display are off(no power) so yeah nothing can be blacker than something which doesn't light up.
Regarding battery life nobody could really determine that as of the moment. I don't think enabling LTE alone would consume battery that much but if your on LTE + doing some heavy download/streaming then most probably your battery would deplete in hours of use. But I don't judge a device which I haven't used yet. It's a flagship device and it's has a non removeable battery. Sony has alot of great minds in their company and won't be dumb enough to make a phone with irreplaceable if it can't withstand heavy usage. Cause that would just sink their reputation alot more.
---------- Post added at 07:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:31 PM ----------
@martindesu
since you have access to Xperia Z at the moment could you also check if it has built in storage encryption? It's on Settings->Storage->Storage encryption
Sony tend to remove that feature to their devices for some unknown reason but I'd like to know if it's the same for Xperia Z.
Also is the display calibration setting still there?

4.4.3 Coming Soon for 2013 Droids!

As you guys probably know, Moto X,G & E got android 4.4.3 a few hours after its release.
So today a few minutes ago David Schuster posted this in the comments:
David Schuster said:
I see a lot of comments on a couple different threads asking about the 2013 DROID plans. Now that KitKat 4.4.3 is publicly available I am able to give more information about our plans. As I have stated previously, we ran into some issues with requirement churn on getting KitKat 4.4.2 out as quickly as we wanted too. Once that got resolved last month we had a decision to make with respect to rolling out KitKat 4.4.2 vs. waiting for KitKat 4.4.3, which we knew, was coming out shortly. We were concerned that if we used KitKat 4.4.2 it could be months before we were given the opportunity to get you KitKat 4.4.3. Consequently, we made the decision to wait for KitKat 4.4.3 as the base for our next update to the 2013 DROID family. We are working to get this update to you shortly, as it gets closer I will let you guys know. Thanks for your patience.

thats good news, thanks motorola for not forgetting about us!
What do you guys think? i honestly dont care if it takes a month or two, just the news that we are getting something its good to my concern.
I just wish the life expectancy of a phone was longer. We probably should have got 4.4.2 a long time ago. I just want 5.0... Just my opinion.

Not sure what yet, maybe the moto x+1 or wait and see how the silver line plays out.

Just to add to this. I'll be doing a full port over from the T-Mobile 4.4.3 update as soon as the appropriate files become available. Would be easier to do the VZW 4.4.3, but until then T-Mo it is.

Thanks bud appreciate your hard work. I just wish the x firmware was 100% compatible with the droids. A few little quirks screw it up like the active notifications half work. If it was 100% I would have been running 4.2.2 all along.

The Moto X has been getting faster updates on Verizon for sure.
The home key bug, the share menu bug, the loss of Google connectivity in low signal areas bug, battery drain issues on KitKat, some people have BT issues, OTG mounting support - all of these (some minor) have not been patched for over five months now. I'm glad that an update is coming, but it's brainless that Verizon wanted a minor radio patch that could have been provided with a full 4.4.2 update, but at least now we don't have to wait a long time for a 4.4.3 update.
Honestly, I am ok with the phone as-is. The Google account issues only happened to me once, the share bug twice, but others have been plagued with these issues - daily having to re-authenticate to Google servers when they drive through low signal areas back and forth to work, etc.

I read this on Droid-Life, it was good hear we are getting 4.4.3 at least. The X8 chip is actually pretty nice.

Verizon would never allow that on a "production' device.

[FIXED] please, do your part to get official 4.4.4 and 4.4.3 images

Edit:
you annoying bastards did it
4.4.4 are live on the site as usual.
go download em https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images
edit 2:
they are still missing the VRZ. but i think that is just red tape (red, get it?) from VRZ.
doesn't hurt to continue to bug them
edit 3:
sad that we had to annoy each other but it's finally complete. maybe next time don't include a annoy.timer setting with such lower timer in your OTA app :/ (it really has that name). or make it not jump in front of gps and calls... well i should learn not to use stock roms...
-----------------------
hi, if you also have a developer edition phone, and are pissed that morola only provides 4.4.2 and 4.2.2 images, making it impossible to restore a dev device back to stock for any reason, whithout a complex (and probably dev edition warranty voiding?) downgrade procedure, please, do bug them and ask for it.
the steps are:
1. open a chat (or call 1-800-734-5870 ) at https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/mcp/service/
2. mention that you have a developer device
3. say that the page at https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images is impacting your device usage
3.b optional. you can mention the fact that being on stock 4.4.3 and being unable to update, you will get the 4.4.4 update warning every couple minutes, even on top of the GPS while you are driving!
4. mention that the page reads "to help owners return to the latest Motorola software." on the very first paragraph.
5. recall them that the latest motorola software is 4.4.4 or at least 4.4.3
do not give up until they say "i'm escaling this to L2." whatever that means
thank you! Only with lots of people bugging them they will do something about it.

Thanks for this. Doing so as we speak.
UPDATE:
Well that was highly discouraging. After being told that unlocking my bootloader wouldn't void my warranty but that to flash one of the recovery images would require root and that would void my warranty (you can be sure I responded to that, LOL!), I was told that what's up there is what's up there and that they'd pass on my request to the appropriate party. LMAO. Basically, don't hold your breath. And people wonder why I'm getting a Nexus 6. I'm sick of companies treating unlocked devices as second class citizens. My S4 GPE has never seen an ODIN image. Officially, we've got recovery images that are 2 versions old for the GSM X DE. is that acceptable to anyone? It's not to me.

thanks for trying man! for me it was pretty smooth.
I did mention that i was on stock 4.4.3, installed on motorola themselves on my phone. I only had a custom recovery, because, well, that is the reason i got a developer phone. The rep never asked me if i rooted or not. because it is irrelevant as you know and mentioned above.
i'd try again later on. maybe you get a rep with a clue. either way, thanks again for trying.
We need volume! c'mon folks.
Done deal!
Ooof.. hopefully Moto will realize that they need to do this as we'll need that to update to 5.0 if released!

Yea, unfortunately that doesn't help us GSM DE users. I'm incredibly frustrated. Well, it just strengthens my resolve to get a Nexus 6. At least with that I know the images will be posted by Google in a very reasonable timeframe. For my S4 GPE I have to make them myself which is equally frustrating. On the X GSM DE we may have to get to a point of a hybrid "FXZ" where we fastboot some partitions, reboot into custom recovery, and then flash a pulled system image. That just seems really wrong when it wouldn't take Moto very much to host the damn images for us.

Thanks for your time and tools. However, once I learned how to manually flash image files I left the toolkits alone. But if I was to use a tool I would trust yours.
Nothing has changed. I have it on good authority that this amounts to a bureaucratic oversight and will be taken care of ASAP.

No problem! Hopefully it will be soon. The person i spoke with used to do this personally and build and sign the zips himself but has delegated that to an underling who has had a full plate and hasn't gotten to it yet, unfotunately.
He assured me there had been no change in policy regarding the availability and posting of these files!

That is truly excellent news. I was very concerned since they only have 4.4.2 up there and 4.4.3 has been out for months now. Yes we've been able to get leaks until recently but we should be able to get them officially and the sbf site hasn't been updated since early September.

Not sure why you guys are praising nexus. My experience with N1 was awfull. stuck on 2.3 forever. zero support. hardware problems that should have been recalled completely ignored and dismissed by google and htc... well, i think i will have my opnion change when N4 gets 5.0 (which is it capable on hardware)
also, you are all ignoring the fact that the next nexus will be churned out by motorola. and will be a even bigger phablet than motoX2.

Does HTC still provide bootloader unlocking?

The last time I had an HTC phone, HTC provided a bootloader unlocking tool for phones bought on contract through carriers. Is this still the case? I'd probably end up having a Verizon model.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/unlockable-bootloader-t3357220
The GSM version will be unlockable. Unknown if Verizon will screw that up or not.

@nitramus I think you have misread. For the 10 if you buy direct from HTC, it looks like the bootloader will be unlocked out of the box. If you buy from a service provider, it may be locked, but can be unlocked via the HTC website.
Might be because English is not my primary language but when I read this what I get is that it can not be unlocked.

Verizon branded devices are NOT unlockable through HTC Dev. Verizon requests that HTC block their branded devices from that service. Verizon users must rely on Java card or software exploits such as sunshine to be updated to work with the 10.

That's kind of tough to answer. First, according to the specs on HTC's page it does have the correct LTE and CDMA radios to work on Verizon. That being said, you would still have to get the device activated on Verizon's Network and that can be difficult with devices Verizon does not carry.
Second, responses from official HTC employees (e.g. Mo Versi and others) state that you will need to purchase the Verizon branded model, once available, to get full support. Seems to be intentionally vague. The answer to your question: it may well work and it may well not, you have to roll the dice to find out.

You'd need to change the device CID to match Verizon's to trick them. For that, s-off is required, bootloader unlock will not give required access to change that.
