[HOW TO] Delete Blur Account - Atrix 4G General

Here's a guide on how to delete the Blur account for a phone with a Blur based ROM that has already signed in. The reason you may want to do this is because Motorola has no business knowing who you are and potentially tracking you.
On top of this, Motorola also does a lousy job protecting the Blur password. It's stored in plaintext on the device and transmitted in plaintext over the network. Assuming you use this password somewhere else, it would be wise to change it wherever you use it.
Here's how you delete the account:
1. Have a rooted phone
2. Install SQLite Editor from the Play store
3. Go to the Files tab in the SQLlite editor and navigate to /data/system/ and select accounts.db
4. Click on "accounts"
5. Long-click on the "Motorola" account and select "Delete Record"
6. Exit and reboot
If you check Accounts in Setup, the "MOTOBlur" account is now deleted. This doesn't uninstall any Blur components, it just deletes the account.
My phone seems perfectly fine after deleting this account.

What happens when you check for updates? Does it check, or does it ask you to set up a blur account?

Update / Blur
Yes, OTA update check does ask you to log in to Blur. If you're running anything but stock, this really doesn't matter.

Very cool. Could you create a new Blur account and check for updates?

Re-Add Blur Account
I see no reason why you wouldn't able to re-add it at a later time. I received the following prompt when I tried OTA update:
"MOTOBLUR account required
Software updates are not available without a MOTOBLUR account. Would you like to setup an account now?"

Deleting a Blur account is nothing new. But being able to delete a Blur account and set up a new one without wiping data in CWM is unprecedented.
If this works, and you had come up with this even just a few months ago, you'd be a hero. This would have been invaluable for cheesecaking.

Could still be useful for other moto phones that are still receiving updates Might want to spread the word to other forums for a test... *shrug*

Good idea. I already sent a PM to samcripp about the possibility of incorporating this in to the Project Cheesecake App.
Maybe there is still time to be a hero.

Already posted in the relevant thread.
Not sure how often Sam checks that thread anymore though (or if at all), so PMing will probably be faster.

There aren't any free SQLite editors with a nice UI that I know of, but there's always the command-line sqlite3 tool that comes with every ROM. It does however mean you need to have quite advanced knowledge of SQL. Nevertheless, maybe the OP can add instructions for using that tool as well.

[Q] Polaris Office has Google Docs integration? Where?

So everyone seems to indicate that you can add a "Google Account" to Polaris Office...but I can't seem to find this anywhere? I CAN add an account from the upper right hand corner menu button but it only shows a username/password prompt for Box.net
Someone know what is going on?
Thanks!

Not sure, but I added my googlel docs account this morning, and it's working properly. My recollection is that the menu showed choices of google or box.net, and I was able to make the selection, then enter the info for that account.
When I go back in to the menu and attempt to add an account now, it just shows the box.net userid/password inputs choices. I wonder if the firmware update today changed something?
In polaris, where it displays the folders, on the top right tab, go to settings. You should be able to set up and login/password there. Once complete, at the folders list, you will also see your email address selection for google docs.
Keep in mind that when you modify a google doc, you cant just hit SAVE, because it assumes you want to save it to a destination on your tablet every single time. You have to hit the top left to go back until it asks if you want to save. Then you hit OK and it should save. I'm not sure if it really saves it so you should verify. I've found it much easier to work with documents locally or use google docs apps for word processing. For spreadsheet, you'll save a lot more time doing it in Excel or on a laptop if you choose to use google docs. Both Polaris and google docs' app for spreadsheet is pretty terrible.

Strange, I tried to add a new account (at folder level > add account) and can only add Box.net account.
My version of Polaris is 3.0 build 5r3638-FV06
It's a TW version. Could this be the problem?

I also have the same build, and I have a US TF. I can't select Google Accounts.
On another note, my copy and paste from outside apps is broken with this build number. It wasn't broken with the previous version (before OTA).
I had the same problem of only showing Box.net in the add account list. It had the OTA update build 8.2.3.13-20110511 so I reverted to the V8.2.3.9 build and it showed both Google and Box.net. Now if I could find the 8.2.3.13-20110511 to manually apply all would be better.

I have the same version of Polaris as the OP and I also can't add a Google Docs account. The only account option is box.net. Is this a bug in this version? I hope its fixed soon.
Any possibility of someone pulling the old version for us to install?
So I just rooted and installed Prime v1.3...same problem! Can anyone with a Polaris Office that connects to Google please let us know what version of it they are running?

No Google Docs login/integration here. I updated to .13 the very first 30 mins I got it so I don't know if it ever had it.

After not having this feature, I just went a different route...I opened a dropbox account and save to the dropbox folder.
It's easy, and works great. I guess I don't really care about Google docs now.
Ok...my bro got a Transformer and the Polaris Office he has DOES have Google Docs Integration. The build number is 5r3330-FV06. For some reason it looks as if the newer version has Google Docs integration removed...annoying!
I'll see if I can make a backup or something of it/otherwise copy it.

I have talked with Asus Tech support about this issue and they are releasing a update in the next couple of weeks or sooner after test that will fix this issue and other issues. I hope the fix also address the saving to the mini-SD card and reformatting the document to be able to read with all office apps.

[Q] How to Change google Account? - TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.2.8[2.3.4]

i have this build since 1 month now, and i love it!
but now i want to change the google-accounts (the new account is from my domain using google apps)
i googled around a little but, but didn't found a solution
is there any way to get into a "first boot"-state, so i can set my new google-account?
another question is: is there any way to merge apps between 2 google-accounts. afaik the apps from the market are bound to the account.
hopefully my english skills were good enough to describe my problem.
greetings
havox
is there anything missing in my description to solve my problem?
or is it impossible with CM7?
How about:
Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> Add Account ?

Hi,
Have you tried :Settings>accounts and sync>google>remove account?
Or apps>setup?
ok - thanks for the answers
but it's not working :/
i tried the "remove account" in account and sync, but there is a message that i have to set back the phone to factory setting. (under point "privacy")
but this doesn't work. i can push the button "delete everything" - but nothing happens ...
@malybru: what do you mean with "apps>setup". i suppose i found it, but what i have to do there? there are listed all apps, right?

Hi,
It may just be on my ROM,but I've got an app called "setup".
I suppose it's the one that runs when you first run a ROM ,and you can install your google details and wi-fi etc.
I realize this thread is nearly 1 year old, but I'd like to add something here that I know works.
I had to merge my two gmail accounts and by chance, I found that this approach worked.
Go to settings and apps for Google Play, clear the cache, force stop and uninstall updates. Go back into Google Play. You'll have to click on Accept on their T&C, then click on Menu to see accounts... select the account the app is in that you want to move to the other account. Uninstall it. Menu, Select 2nd account you want to move app to, then install.
If you don't want to lose the cached data, well, guess you're out of luck. The above was the only way I was able to move over my apps from one gmail to another gmail account.

[Q] How to change the initial, 'primary' account?

My son got my first HD2. What I did not know when I installed it the first time before he got it, was the fixation of the phone to the gmail-account I used at that time and only for that purpose. Intuition has its flip side too.
My son has his own gmail account, which I was not aware of, and obviously he wants to have his HD2 running his affairs on his own account (communicate with friends etc.)
Now, he has used the HD2 extensively, installed lots of apps, also some paid ones. Purging my old (installation-) account will reset the whole device to its initial state, all accounts and licences will be lost, if he understands that warning correctly.
Is there a way to change the 'ownership' with as little damage to the contents as possible, like save all contents as a backup, start with a new account identity, and restore all contents? Or will that also inevitably overwrite the new account with the old one too?
One could call the task also a migration of an android installation to a different account. BTW, it's equipped with a 16 GB card which has lots of free space left right now (looking at the backup space needs).
I am sure this has been discussed here before, but I seem to not find the right search words. Any hints, links, advice?
Would a total backup using Titanium be advisable? Or will that restore the present status including the unwanted account again?
Thanks for your help in advance. It doesn't make things simpler that my son and his HD2 are some 1.000 miles from here, studying there. but we have skype and other paths on PCs...
Cheers,
the longkeeler.
You can always use Titanium Backup to back up the apps (the paid ones, too), make a factory reset and let him set his own account and then restore the backup.
But you can never transfer the ownership of app(s) from one account to another. (For example, by using TB backup, he can use the paid apps, but he won't be able to update them, he'd need to buy them from his own account)
I'm sorry, but that is the way Android works. (which is lame)
follow-up
Clearing the primary gmail-account and thus resetting the device did not remove just that account, which kind of surprises me. Well, I don't have the HD2 in my hands, and I just hope that my son will have made the backup I advised hin to make and store it where he can reconstruct from.
Cheers,
the longkeeler.
But at least, he would have back what was there before. The nature of the paid apps is static, there are no backups to be expected. And it was not an amount of money that would kill anyone - just throwing it away should be avoided. Now, as posted a few minutes before, he was not successful to remove the undesired account. Are there any protections built in, that follow the great old MS tradition , it's not a bug, it's a feature, if not even industry standard?
it is however possible - to some extent - to "merge" google accounts.
if you do not use your gmail acc (as i understood from your first post) you can transfer quite a bit of contacts/features and stuff to your sons account and the other way round. this way he might be able to keep the paid apps (and updates) and also communicate with his friend on the dame account.
if thats any help...

First: Thanks to all for your replies!
Afaik, it's the gingerbread flavor.
I have the same type of HD2 here for myself but don't want to mess that up too much - I just saw under acc and synch that my account appears there once under mail and then under google.
If I remove either of those - does it only purge the link from my device to gmail resp. all other google-accounts, or does it remove the account as a whole from google's servers? (if so, probably only from the visible surface, but that's a different story...)
I am not sure if my son sees the same image and what he did there.
So again: Does "removing" the account on the smartphone just "divorce" it from google, or does it kill it?
Thanks again for your help!
Cheers,
The Longkeeler
Nieve, thank you so much. I am not sure yet if it will work but it sounds plausible. surprising how close to the surface such an essential database is located - like the rock that merged with the Costa Concordia... So, everybody just can hope that it will become easier in future to change the primary account rights.
A different side-question: What tool did you use to add the hints to the screen shots?
Extended thought, not necessarily useful for my son's problem, but: Would it be possible to cultivate different versions of the accounts.db, renaming them according to the desired application spectrum (like, say, change the "personality" of the phone from business to leisure)?
Reset device completely
With a clean device when the touch android screen comes up...
he signs in with his account. Establishes his acct as primary
then logs in with your acct secondly or later on in order to get access to the paid apps on your account
Only way to xhange primary is a wipe of data. The primary is simply the very first acccount entered after a device reset.

(\data\system\accounts.db) deleted - et voilĂ , after rebooting, no more accounts. So, step one done successfully. So, again, thanks for that!
Now came the next one, re-installing his own gmail account as a primary one. He could open the dialogue - but his entry was refused, 'sorry, username and pw don't match.' Bummer. He tried it several times, took care that the account was not opened anywhere else - no avail so far. The error message could well be misleading.
There must be a missing resp. hidden link.
Update: re-installing the prior "false" primary account worked immediately. So, the error message IS misleading. I guess there will be no other way than to completely re-initiate the whole system and then start with the other identiy. Unfortunately, the HD2 has to travel 2.000 miles for that, but it is the safest way then. My son has neither the experience nor the tools to do that himself there.
If somebody has yet another idea - please don't hesitate to let us know!
The application is call picsin, you can find it in the android market...about his account ask him to make sure his email and password are correct. I have change my accounts many times doing that process. He can maybe try login to his account thru the browser, just to make sure the email and password are right.

Some times, the solution comes as a surprise. Just before my son had started his trial to rearrange the accounts yesterday, he had applied for a new login scheme with google - some double-password story. This, he had not mentioned until today, an hour ago, when he received a mail from google, giving him directions on how to handle logins in a transitional phase.
You guess it: All is well now, he has his own account as the primary one, and sounds much more relaxed than before.
Oh well...
But nevertheless: Your help was absolutely substantial in achieving this, and I hope that the bitdust will settle soon... So thanks again, I can recommend you
Cheers, and a happy rest of this weekend!

I have used jellybean roms with multiuser support, so I'm assuming this will be close to the same. The way it works is, the person initially signed into the tablet is the 'admin' in which can create accounts - no one else. The user also gets to choose which apps are available to any user that the 'admin' creates. Then, you can add a password to the main account, so any other user would have to know it in order to get into your 'account'. If settings is an app that you allow others to use, it will lack functionality for them so they cannot alter the tablet in a way that would effect other users. Hope that helps.

[HOW-TO] Bypass Exchange Security for NINE email

All,
The "Nine" exchange email app available on the play store gives you the option of Device Exchange Security protocol via device administrator OR Software level Exchange Security protocol. In other words, to receive exchange email you can either be forced to screen lock your phone or password protect the nine app to receive your exchange mail.
I have figured out how to remove the software level exchange security protocol if anyone is interested.
Here is the very quick how to.
**Prerequisite**
You must be rooted.
1. Download app
2. Install app and setup your exchange email. Use app level exchange security NOT device level.
3. Set your password. We will remove this policy later
4. Make sure your email starts to flow in
5. Download your favorite SQL database editor. I use SQLlite
6. Open database editor and go to the nine app
7. Open email provider db then account.... change policy key from 2 to 0 then save.
8. Leave account then go to policy. You are still inside email provider db.
9. Change the password mode from 2 to 0. This is the first setting at the top of the list. Scroll down to protocol policy required... Set this to 0. Then scroll all the way down to the bottom to the last policy item called alphanumeric password required... Change this from 2 to 0. Then hit save.
10. Now, back out of the SQL editor... Don't open nine email yet.
11. Force close nine email. You must force close instead of removing from recent
12. Start nine email. Go to security and enter your password once if it asks. May not even ask. Then Uncheck "password".
13. Reboot, profit. At this point the exchange policy should now be bypassed.
If this helped you by me a beer!!! See donate button by my name.

Yes. I will try removing the account and adding it again. I checked other apps and they all seem to have their databases.
Tried deleting account and reinstalling app. No luck. When I add my work account it forces me to accept encryption, does that have anything to do with it? I really would love this to work but I don't know what else to do.

You want to set everything up including allowing the app to force you to create a password. Don't use device level security. Use app level security within nine. Once your password is set and you have begun receiving emails then the email provider db will be created. After you have set a password and get your emails up and running then go into sqlite and follow the edit instructions

I tried everything you said. I am convinced that the DB is being hidden somehow (encrypted maybe). I tried another app, aSQLiteManager. Navigated to the Nine app folder in data/data. Then went into the databases folder. Here I see the following databases:
LogReporter.db
SecureEMailProvider.db
SecureEmailProviderBackuip.db
SecureEmailProviderBody.db
I noticed all have the work "secure" before it except LogReporter. For some reason SQLite app can only see the ones not listed as secure. So I thought I was good to go but when I click on SecureEmailProvider.db I get the message "/storage/emulated/0/aSQLiteManager/SecureEmailProvider.db is not a database"
No idea where to go from here. Appreciate your help but I guess it just won't work for me. It would be nice if someone else was also trying. I should note again that I can see and open databases for other apps just fine.

All,
The "Nine" exchange email app available on the play store gives you the option of Device Exchange Security protocol via device administrator OR Software level Exchange Security protocol.

Please excuse this shameless hijack but it is somewhat on topic.
My company uses Outlook Web Access through Office 365 and previously I was able to use NINE to access my email. I was even able to execute this bypass hack. Recently however my company's server stopped allowing access to NINE. I thought it might be because of the bypass hack so I factory reset the phone and tried to do a fresh install and setup and it doesn't work. I tried several OWA apps and the only that works is MobiMail.
Any idea why NINE doesn't work anymore?

NINE does not use OWA, it uses active sync. MobiMail connects via OWA, so very much like a web browser. I would first ask a few co workers if their active sync app still works. If theirs does not work your IT Department broke activesync or turned it off on everyone.
If theirs works the IT Department turned it off on just your mailbox.
