Before starting... (Read please)
- For those people wondering if it's possible to flash i9000 (Galaxy S) ROMs on the i9070 (Galaxy S Advance) the answer is NO. You CAN BRICK your phone. I'm NOT responsible of your actions.
- Don't use android sdk. use Odin tool with Kies installed.
- Samsung device drivers comes in Kies PC software. So Odin requires Kies to detect Samsung devices.
- Odin doesn't exist for Linux. Use Heimdall instead.
- You can't get in bootloader using Android SDK (an `adb reboot bootloader` just does a normal reboot).
- 'wipe data/factory reset' wipes only /data partition
- stock recovery usually performs signature verification for every zip-package you try to install. if the package is not signed by Samsung, then it will not be applied. you need a custom recovery to install zips with no restrictions.
- I don't have this phone, yet (I should buy it in weeks). So don't believe me without questioning. If I'm wrong, correction is welcome.
- A backup is always a good thing.

Hello everyone, I'm new here (trying to not be a n00b) I just purchased this phone and it's my first Android device, I like to learn how to do this sort of customization (I did with my PSP) so I read all I can before starting, to prevent messing my device. I think this post must be my start point, so thanks and let's begin.

Ok, happy you want to learn.
You have read something before start posting. So what do you know? We're trying not to flow the thread with noob stuff but to make it useful to most people as this device is really price accessible.

Well, I read about flashing, the TWRP ,the binary counter u.u, cutom ROMs, Odin, drivers, well, almost everything on this index and finally I decided to flash my device and I did it sucesfully with JetMOD, which looks pretty nice.
Yeah, I decided to purchase this device cause it was on my possibilities and it have nice specs, just wish that the update to Jelly Bean comes soon, and of course I'll be checking for new CRs
On the other hand, I'm studying Systems engineering, I don't think I'll do something on custom ROMs but I really want to develop Andoid apps.
I don't have any doubts right now, maybe on the future I'll have but before posting something I use to search everywhere, so cya

Full Format your S Advance
People, is there any way i can format my full phone, including the internal memory wipe, everything, and then installing a new stock firmware with odin mode??
I gave it a day researching about it, and found that using Fastboot i can wipe out everyhting with the fast boot command lines :
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase cache
And so i installed the android SDK, adb and fastboot for it...everything was set, in cmd.exe, i typed adb devices and my device was found, and then doing a few adb command test i was sure about adb, but when i typed fastboot devices, nothing happened, no response..seemed like my device is not responding to fastboot
then i searched a bit on fastboot, and found out that it works in bootloader mode, if security is unsecure/unlocked (this i found it for nexus)..also tried the command adb reboot bootloader, but it just reboots my phone nothing new.
So im stuck at this point..!!
Please help me, PM me, Mail me anything...i want to know if im going in the right direction, if not, please guide me i'll be thankful!!!
PS: No issue if the warranty gets void, android is a open source platform unlike iOS, so it should be enjoyed to the fullest!!!
PSS: i may not know about command language or linux commanding, but im not a noob, and internet has a lot to give...also i learn quickly!!!:good:

USB OTG
is there a way that our phone can support OTG/ USB HOST, because even sony xperia go does support OTG (gsm arena says so, i have not personally seen/tested it)

I've searched a lot in the internet but I didn't find any videos about this yet... Its odd that no one made a Rooting video on this great mid-range phone....

Well I think this is the easier way (just for Windows), first you must go here -> http://www.samsung.com/mx/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP and download Kies, this is for the drivers of your phone that you will need.
Now you must install it with your phone connected, but before you must update your java cause it can have troubles if you don't do so. When it finish you may reboot your pc and after reboot you must stop Kies services (on taskmanager), then download ODIN http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703998 and follow this video (to enter in download mode you mjust press Vol down + home button + power at the same time):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gqp69v68WVU
Is the same but with this kernel/firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873119
Now select your favorite ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945806 and install as in this video (go to min 3:00 and the keys are Vol up + home button + power):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHULkfePcTg
Finally, enjoy

AFAIK Galaxy S Advance doesn't support otg. otg isn't just a matter of sw support (kernel has to support it) but also hw, a specific chip is needed.
anyway if i find sth new, i'll update the 1st post.

did you tried 'back to stock' in this index?
if you want to wipe everything you can do it via TWRP recovery (flashed via fastboot) and then using odin to flash stock fw and the rest.
not sure it odin flashes a blank device.

We dont have fastboot???

List of Commonly used Terms -
All that is fine, but I don't know what this rooting, flashing, nandroid, Modding etc. mean? Yelp ?
Fear Not! Here's a little Cheat Sheet for you. Please thank @benjamingwynn for this. I took his original list for HTC and extended it for here. Given bellow is a Glossary of sorts for commonly used terms. Please let me know if I missed any and I will add it. Also please visit this Q & A thread. Its more than likely to answer most of your questions.
ADB - "Android Debug Bridge" a system that can be accessed using a computer where you can manage the device from. You need the Android SDK to use it.
AFAIK - "As far as I know"
AOSP - "Android open source project" a project by Google Inc. to give android to developers and manufactures for free (see open-source)
APK - "Android Package" an Android application
Binary - (sometimes called bin's) a group of executable files.
Brick - When the device refuses to boot at all, despite having a full battery is termed as Bricking. Most of the times, the devices gives some indication of problems such as blinking Red Led, but no other signs of life. It is also called Hard Brick. Also see Soft Brick.
Bootloader - Its a small piece of code that's embedded in the device. Its the first to be executed when the device is turned on.
CDMA/GSM - A type of network communication between phones and carriers. GSM phones normally are included with SIM Cards that authorize them onto the network. CDMA have this authorization built in and do not need a sim card.
CM - See CyanogenMod
CM10 - Cyanogenmod 10. A modified version of Jelly Bean release of Android 4.2.x as well as 4.3.x (see CynogenMod)
CM11 - Cyanogenmod 11. A modified version of Kitkat release of Android 4.4.x. (see CynogenMod)
Custom recovery - An unofficial recovery developed by other developers for your device. Its typically used to install unoffical ROMs. See CWM and TWRP.
CWM - ClockWorkMod, a project that makes Custom Recovery.
Cyanogenmod - A free open-source project based on the AOSP. It is a modded (see modded) version of the Android firmware
Dev - See developer.
Developer - A man or woman who has created (developed) software.
Deodexed - Where the two part ODEX files (see Odex) are moved into the actual APK (apk), thus making it one.
Execute - To "run" or "start" a binary

Flash - The process of installing a software on your device.
Flashing - See Flash.
FOTA - "Firmware over the air" this normally refers to ROM's but can refer to radio firmware (see OTA)
Froyo - Android 2.2
GB - Could mean one of two things. 1. Gingerbread or 2. Great Britain
Gingerbread - Android 2.3
Governor - A system embedded into the kernel to automatically change the current working CPU frequency depending on the workload. It would only go up to what it is overclocked (or underclocked) to, this is called the maximum frequency. It would not drop bellow the (just as easily configurable) minimum frequency.
Honeycomb - Android 3.x. it was never released or ported to the wildfire s because it was built for tablets.
Ice cream sandwich/ICS - Android 4.0. The latest version of Android.

Radio Firmware - (see firmware) a type of software that allows correct communication with the radio and the operating system. A newer firmware would normally improve battery life and call quality. The radio firmware only applies to the CDMA/GSM radio.
Overclock - (not to be confused with underclock) to exceed the default maximum CPU speed. This could make a phone more powerful but may cause damage. Although no damaged has been reported so far it could still drain battery life.
Nandroid - Its a process of taking a backup of most of the partitions in Android. This is usually performed in Recovery Console when OS is not running.
Partition - Similar to Linux, Android storage is divided into Partitions. These are akin to compartments that house specific part of the OS boot and operation.

Ok Now that you have a hang of your device, you probably want to explore your options and maybe install a Custom Rom. Well, the first thing you will need is to Root the Device.
So what really is a Root ? Why should I do it ? Would it break my Phone ? How about my Warranty ? All legitimate questions. To start off, here's an easy guide by Lifehacker. This whole concept may seem mystical to some of us. Let me try to make it pretty straightforward. Rooting is a process on Android that effectively grants you superuser access. Think of it as Administrator access on Windows. Android is a derivative of Linux. So those from Linux should have no difficulty with this concept.
There are certain operations that only a Superuser can do. Hence you'd want to root in order to so. For ex, remove any application that is installed as System application. Just like on on Windows, Root access does come with risk, so you need to use it with care. Just because you have Root access, does not mean your phone is broken. Typically making wrong changes to system with Root access, will result in affecting smooth operation of your phone. In extreme cases, the device may be Bricked if incorrect software (Rom, Mod or others) is flashed.
When it comes to Warranty, typically Root as such does not void your warranty. But if you end up flashing anything with a custom Recovery, then your Warranty may be voided.
Rooting -
Ok so, I got what Root is and I need to be responsible in what I do. How do I get the root ? Well the first and basic thing would be to install appropriate drivers for Windows.
Next in order to Root, please follow this thread by @paulobrien . As you will see, there are two ways to go about it. Both do require your Bootloader to be unlocked. However, neither method, applies to the Google Play Edition (XT1032) as there is no supporting Custom Recovery for this variant.
If you do not have or do not wish to unlock your bootloader then you can opt for @oasoas014 's method of bootloader downgrade. You may also visit @Cooptx's more detailed guide. Note, with the most recent recoveries, you do not need to downgrade your bootloader.
Note - Flashing a bootloader is inherently dangerous. You can possibly hardbrick your device if you flash incorrect bootloader. Always check the MD5 value of downloaded file.
Only In Case of Moto G Google Play Edition (XT1032), it is possible to unlock the Bootloader on your own. You do not need to pay to get an Unlock Code from Motorola. Instead, you can follow the same method as Nexus or other Google Play Devices. Here's a nice tutorial. For those technically minded, here's Android Source Documentation of the same process. Once unlocked, the bootloader cannot be re-locked unless you flash a signed system image, (which Motorola has not made available as of 01-22-2014).
One of the first things you should do upon Rooting is to backup your PDS Partition.
[SIZE=+1]How to backup / restore PDS partition and why?[/SIZE]On Motorola devices the 'pds' partition contains information specific to your machine: IMEI, MAC address, serial number, etc. This partition can be lost by accidental format or over time due to filesystem corruption. If you have made a backup, there is a good chance you can bring your handset back to life.
==> PDS backup will help to restore lost IMEI. It is a situation when the phone reports that the IMEI is unknown. ; This works like a vaccine, apply before having issue with IMEI, after it will be too late !
Instructions:
**Root Required**
Using ADB you can make a copy of the partition and move it to a safe place (Google Drive?):adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/pds of=/sdcard/pds.imgTo restore in the event of corruption or loss:adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/pds.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/pds(assuming you've pushed pds.img to internal SDcard storage first)

Once rooted, some of you may wish to stick with that and not proceed any further. With root, you will want to remove some of the apps that you don't need. I wish to suggest that you take a complete backup with a tool such as Titanium Backup. That way if you accidentally uninstall/remove something that's critical to android's operation, then you can restore it. For those of you, who wish to install custom Rom, read on.
The first step towards installing a custom Rom is to install a custom Recovery.
Please note, In order to flash any custom Recoveries, you need to have unlocked Bootloader. The viable options are either follow this guide or get an unlock code from Motorola.
Custom Recoveries -
A Custom Recovery is a unofficial Recovery Console that can be flashed to your device's Recovery Partition.
Typically unofficial recoveries offer several advantages over Stock or Official Recovery. Hence the unofficial recoveries are necessary in order to flash a Custom Rom. Apart from flashing a Rom, Kernel or any other firmware, unofficial Recoveries can also take Nandroids.
An unofficial Recovery is also commonly referred to as Custom Recovery. There are two major projects that contribute Custom recoveries. One is called CWM. The other is called TWRP. Given bellow is a list of Custom Recoveries available for your device.
Note - CWM and TWRP recoveries do not support the Google Play Edition variant (XT1032). You will need to wait for Motorola to release the Kernel source code before @a1Pha can support. However Philz Touch does support Google Play Edition.

Should be JB
CM11 - Cyanogenmod 11. A modified version of ICS. (see CynogenMod)
Should be KK
Not that it matters right now, because we don't have any CM
Also, CyanogenMod is spelt wrong at the end. And I am pretty sure that you can remove all preJB words
INFUSION B2 Rom by @tillaz -
This is a JB ROM
And there is no need to label JB as 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 because we only have 4.3
Also, you should add the two root methods for KK

Thanks for mentioning. I have made rest of the changes except for the 2 Root methods. Will add them to the Op. All changes are done.
Between the two methods you have mentioned, the basic premise of bootloader downgrade is pretty much the same right ? Your's seems more elaborate list of steps. Or am I missing something ?

SHA1: bcfc03c36acb5d6a861e2a188422364008a32dc8
Working:
- updater-script (flashing)
- kernel (booting)
- OpenGL (CPU rendering)
- MALI blobs (GPU rendering)
- HWComposer (not updated to latest nameless release)
- Rotation
- Camera
- WiFi
- Bluetooth
- NFC (Android Beam)
- Sensors (ALL!)
- Internal / External SD Card
- Vibration
- GPS
- RIL
Changelog
- Android 5.0.2
- Updated CM Sources
- Fixed Wifi issues
- RIL completely working
- Stock Camera working
- Bootloop Issues fixed
This is NOT A STABLE BUILD.
I STRONGLY suggest to use only stock kernel bundled with the ROM and ArchiKernel V1.6+, unless you want to face other issues

GAPPS download
Where can I download the latest GAPPS (Google Applications)?
https://s.basketbuild.com/gapps
Use the CM12 download link
Bugs
Known bugs:
smart lock with NFC crashes settings
Mobile network is always half the signal strength
Mute not working in calls
Message while flashing in recovery
I'm getting a message: "mount failed dev/block/mmcblk0p12 at /data: Device or resource busy"
That is because of the new type of flashing. It's still flashing though and takes a while. Be patient.
Bootloop
My device bootloops! What can I do?
Before thinking your device is bootlooping, give it at the very least 5 minutes, art takes a while to optimize during the 1st boot.
If that doesn't work, try philz latetst touch recovery.
Get it here
Download the .tar file if you want to flash using Odin.
Use the .zip file if you already have a custom recovery (CWM, TWRP etc)
If that doesn't work, get usefull logs.
See here...
Keyboard isn't working
[EDIT]
SOLVED IN BETA1!!!
Whaaa, I have no keyboard, whats wrong?
Enable "Hardware" on Keyboard settings
No 3G/data
Moster2 said:
How to get working data
1. Download this small shell script here.
2. Put in on your internal storage /sdcard. Via file browser or
Code:
adb push data_on.sh /sdcard/
3. Open the terminal emulator app. Then type the following:
Code:
su
sh /sdcard/data_on.sh
Important: You need working root (supersu or superuser) and do this every time you enable 2G/3G data. Also, you have to have data enabled when executing this script.

Did you flash any other kernel? Use stock embedded kernel (reflash ROM to use stock kernel)
Wifi problems
How can I get wifi working on my murata chipped S3?
Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56938378&postcount=739
SD-card problems
I'm unable to use my SD card!
EXT4 and a variety of other filesystems are not supported.
Only FAT32 is supported up till now (until CyanogenMod supports the orther filesystems)
Root
I lost root!
Flash SuperSU in recovery.

CM11 features
CM11 feature 'x' isn't working anymore/missing, when is it available again?
Don't ask for features or ETA's.
The devs are doing this in their spare time FOR FREE!
If you can, you can try to help by learning how to build and code the features (see Building your own CM12 build for the i9300 below)
Changelog
Mainly only new CM12 commits.
Best and easiest what you can do is check this site: http://www.cmxlog.com/12
Dual boot
Can I dual boot this ROM?
Yes:
Extended tutorial with screenshots here
well you can only dualboot LolliPop if it is 1st ROM, i.e you can not use multiboot.zip to flash the alpha CM12 to 2nd ROM directly
you have to backup current apps on the ROM,
wipe data/factory reset from Philz Recovery provided by arter97,
install the Alpha CM12 zip,
then flash arter97 kernel (4.0-beta1),
then flash multiboot.zip followed by the ROM you want and restore your apps when booting in the 2nd ROM
BUT...
- You can't do phone calls (IMEI and Baseband was OK)
- You can't pull down the notification bar, I tried, tried, one finger, two, staring it... but don't... T_T
Because of arter97 kernel
Nameless 2.0 commits
I found the commits of Nameless, can we use it to get 3G working?
No, those commits aren't complete yet.

@RoadXY
I have installed cm12 alpha 2 (now update to 3) with multiboot zip as second Rom.... My first Rom is stock 4.3 and second Rom cm12 with working call.... I use the arter kernel In all the two Rom and I have last twrp
I do this:
-Have first Rom with arter kernel (beta2)
-go to recovery (last twrp) flash multiboot zip and, WITHOUT restart recovery flash cm12,gapps,arter kernel.... Than restart to first Rom and use aSwitch to go to second Rom.... Now you see cm12 bootanimation and WAIT a lot (I don't care how much time) first time I think is bootloop but after try again I'm waiting and is start.... After start i go again in recovery and after flash multiboot zip I flash the last beta of super Su to have full working root....
Hope this can helpful and add to faq
Added screens of cm+kernel version and aswitch to see I'm on second rom

(///////////////////////////////) FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
-Will you make this for the T705, T800, T805, T-whatever ?
I only own the T700, which allows me to test the builds myself and to ensure the best experience for that model.
However, the T800 will probably get some love soon and I will post a test build in the near future, since it is easy to develop for wifi only models.
As for the T805, I think that variant runs with a Snapdragon chip, so it would be very unlikely to see my rom for you guys. But then again, I might be very kind one day and try to make a test build, stay tuned
___
-Will 'superdupergreatdabeast' custom Kernel v.1318342 with overclocking at 2884092GHz (help I've fried my tablet) work on this ROM? Will Synapse work ? SELinux Permissive ?
Yes, and feel free to use any Kernels that are compatible with Lollipop touchwiz I might include my own soon.
___
-How come Netflix or (insert any google play store apps here) doesn't work ? WHY ? WAT U DO FOR NO WORKING SIR
My ROM is based on Official firmware, and although the stock kernel used has init.d enabled, it is still a very stock kernel, in no way modified. So your problem with said app is related to the developer behind this app not working properly on Stock Touchwiz 5.0.2; Blame Samsung, not me
___
Been waiting for this. ?

Depending on the app, you could either pull the apk or perhaps someone might have it. Presuming the OP doesn't have an option on install (like aroma).
This made my weekend.
Yay, a zip based LL install! Much more convenient than Odin (in my opinion of course )
Thanks!
I'm excited too!! Looking forward to this.
Thanks boss for efforts.
I must say, may be my opinion is in minority, any twz rom has no sense with this crazy tiny interface. It is way to small for me... I us now any aosp/ cm rom with 384 or 400 dpi and it fits perfectly for me.
Thanks for the support guys I'm uploading it as we speak, check out the download section for the screenshot Should be ready in around 2 hours; and yes, my upload speed is terrible
I've decided to release an early Release Candidate build because there is one tiny issue with the fingerprint lock method, it says that "an error has occured with the fingerprint sensor' when you choose the option in Lock Screen.
It might be a small issue with the fingerprint apk after it has been deodexed because it works with odex files. Still trying to sort this issue out. But other than that, the whole ROM is working perfectly as expected, so I didn't want to keep you guys waiting
I'll upload a small update file once I fix the problem so that you guys can flash it on top of the Release Candidate ! Anyways heading to uni, should be uploaded when I get back

By 'non tiny', do you mean a bigger interface ? Yeah, I suppose I could work on that. Once I get a stable release, I was thinking about theme-ing the SystemUI and framework res anyways.

Yeah, I mean the font size across applications such as gmail, Facebook, but most importantly...Chrome!
Adjusting the system font size unfortunately doesn't help....the system menus just become too huge.
Anyway, it's not a huge deal.
THE ROM IS UPLOADED ! HAPPY FLASHING I'm using this as a daily driver for the last 15hours, and haven't found any issues apart from the fingerprint one. So you should have no problem, but if you do, don't hesitate to share it with me, I'll be happy to help

cheers mate, installing now.
With dpi 380 or 400 (stock is 320) everything is set perfectly. Then just small font adjustments for system and/ or specific apps which have this option...

Ok guys if you have had a Note 1, 2, 3 or 4 you may be familiar with my Sweet ROM series. Sweet ROM was the very first Note 4 custom rom released on either platform.
Those of you that know my Sweet ROM's from the Galaxy Notes will know I generally build a full ROM. I like to keep all the Samsung apps etc in though I do a light de-bloat of some apps available on Play Store. Users can delete what they want to lighten the ROM if they wish and know what they are doing.

[*]You may want to do a backup of your data apps etc. I have made a quick guide HERE on how I backup and restore my apps in under 10 minutes after a data wipe
[*]Make sure you have backed up your imei (efs). There are a number of apps that do this. Or backup in twrp recovery. Keep in a safe place. (If done on previous version no need to do it again if kept in safe place)
[*]Download & place Sweet Rom V3 zip on internal or external SD Card
[*]I used twrp recovery from HERE. The TWRP-2.8.6.2-T805/T807 version worked fine on the T805Y when flashed in pc odin.
[*]Do a nandroid backup of your current rom
[*]If you are coming from 4.4 you must flash the lollipop bootloader or the rom will not boot. I have made a .md5.tar file that you can flash in PC Odin. Download it HERE. For a quick guide of how to install it see HERE (the guide is for Note 4 but it’s the same principle)
[*]Wipe data / factory reset
[*]Flash Sweet ROM V3
[*]Reboot & do a little dance, pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time while you're waiting for it to boot. Be patient as it takes a lot longer due to ART than 4.4.4 did
[*]Enjoy
MODS
ALL MODS TO BE FLASHED IN TWRP (OR CWM) RECOVERY. No wipes needed.
See post #2 in this thread for more mods
NOTES
The modem is not included in this rom. You will keep your current modem. To change modem flash with cwm. Modems available in Post #3
This is a T805Y Exynos ROM. It should work on T805 but you will need to flash a T805 kernel for everything to work.
This rom is built for standard dpi. If you wish to change it that is fine but I don’t take requests to fix dpi issues
I cooked this ROM for my own personal enjoyment and it works for me. *What works for me may not work for you. I merely put together what I like and use. If you don't like it then please don't flash it or even download it as it costs me personally for file hosting.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DEVICE. IF YOU CHOOSE TO FLASH THIS ROM OR ANY OF THE ATTACHED MODS THEN THAT IS ENTIRELY YOUR CHOICE IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG.

Either there is not much interest in the Tab S development or it seems I have a variant (T805Y) that not many people have. Anyway its just a little something I cooked up for myself and thought I'd share in case there was any 805Y users out there, apparently not, ha ha

Well I have a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 T800. Not sure if this would work or not on mine. I may get brave and try it someday.
I installed it last night. Thank you not-i, all working well so far but wont have much chance to play with it until next week now. Also installed your modem and kernel but not 3Minit battery yet.
If it possible please cook sweet rom for SM-T705, too. Thanks very much in advance for your kindness

I can but I would need a tester as I don't have the device. I might give it a go on my days off if there is further interest in it as I support 2 variants of Note 4 that I don't own too.
The testers would need to be willing to test pretty quickly after I upload though so if that's you or someone else can let me know

That's Great!!
So, could you please include the flashable modem for T705 like your sweet rom v.14 on note 4, too.
And let I inform about some bug on the lastest sweet rom 910C/H as I found which it may occur on T705. I installed the rom for 4 days I found sometimes screen error. The screen displayed wierd icon on touch whiz. It haven't offen occured. Sometimes while turn on my device from stand by. Sometimes while I closed app and back to home screen. So, Please check this issued. Thank you very much.
Hey Boss, can this be installed on SM-T805 ? Would really love to, by the way your note series were really the bomb.

If you are already on lollipop it should install and I don't include modem so you will keep your 805 modem.
Do a nandroid backup first then try and let me know how you go. I have heard some people with T805Y have flashed T805 roms with no issues
