[Q] Is it still worth it? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there!
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Mini, and i'm about to sell it for about R$200 and buying a Motorola Defy (or Defy+) for about ~R$550. What do you think? Is it worth it, or should i get another phone. Phones here in Brazil are WAY to expensive, so this phone is what I can get for now.
I'm thinking it is great because of screen size and processor. It is also an armv7 phone, which supports full Jelly Bean/ICS experience, different from my SGM which is armv6 with an 600mHz processor.
Btw, how JB and ICS behave in this phone?
Thanks for your opinion guys, and sorry if it is the wrong section

Moved to Q&A, but I almost closed it because you also asked the same question in Off-topic. As you should be aware, double posting is a violation of forum rules.

Wait, what? This is my first post here in this forum LOL

Right, but you posted the exact same question in a different forum, which is called double posting and a violation of XDA rules.

I have had my Defy (from T-Mo usa) since it first came out and have had very good luck with it. Was thinking of switching to a Galaxy 3 but many people are having issues with the wifi-calling feature, which I need. However, I don't spend a lot of time playing games etc. I guess when I need it to do something it can't, I'll switch. BTW I also like that it is SMALL...

Its a pretty old phone. Though we have unofficial ICS & JB(gratitude to our devs) but the phone is somewhat outdated. I'd suggest you to go for Xperia U or Xperia Go(comes with the same IP67 stads as Defy), though not sure if those are available at the same price band in Brazil. The dual-core processor is certainly the +1 for Xperia along with official ICS (& JB by mid Q1 2013)

Hmmm, Xperia Go and Xperia U look quite interesting. Although it is ~100$ more expensive, if I wait for some months, maybe the price will go down. If it doesn't, I guess defy+ will be my choice. Thanks!
EDIT: Wow, it has frontal camera and face unlock... But screen is a little bit smaller... Defy+ is HVGA, right? And no SD card slot either :/ But i'll see, I have time to think

i actually just got a defy green lens almost 3 weeks ago for $120 USD from a friend 2nd hand in very pristine condition. i thought of playing with it for a while but after loading up CM7.2 and CM10 i was quite hooked.. i love small phones for portability and owned a HTC wildfire-s and Alcatel 0918N but eventually sold it due to lack of support from the community.. So if you can find one cheap like mine dont hesitate in getting one.. :cyclops:

Hey guys. Thanks so much for the help, but i've made my mind. I'm going to wait until December and get a Xperia U. Although it has locked bootloader and not that much of custom ROM's, it has official ICS, dual core cpu and stuff. And the price is about R$5,00 more.
Thanks a lot for everybody's help

[DISCUSSION] Desire Z development..who will be in??

I think i'm not the only one that hates senseUI so my following questions are:
1. what developers would put the effort to max this phone to it's best?
2. Will we have cyanogen?
3. will we have screen calibration?(i really god used with true color rather than "blue pushed" colors).
Please if any developer would love to put a bit of comfort to our hearts please post here that you would do the best for this phone
So looking forward for it!
Edit: posible to swich roms from G2 to z and other way? that would be nice, theoretically it's very posible same hardware!
looks like the G2 will have stock froyo(not sure) but i really hope we can cyanogen mod on this thing! still don't think desire z is going to replace n1 on the priority list.

You are quite right, but alao g2 might take the place of n1,and g2=desire z,it'q all a matter of rooting i think.
Damn i will really miss the led flash from n1) really really usefull for me.
LED flash? G2 also has a flash with its camera, if thats what you mean..
Also, to your 3rd point, if you're talking about the blue tinge issues and such, these screens won't have those issues as they're not AMOLED's, but SLCD's.
Aaaa sry i mean trackball led flash.

dang. i was hoping for super amoled display. well atleast with slcd we won't be getting anymore burnin. hopefully.
Unfortunately for now, Only Samsung has the rights to use S-AMOLED. Its their tech anyways. But I believe from next year fall onwards they will start selling S-AMOLED screens to other manufacturer's.
For me S-amoled is not that interesting anymore, really curios about this S-lcd and it's multitouch capabiliti really hope is better than n1 or desire.

Cyanogen tweeted earlier this month saying that he's getting a G2, so I think it's safe to say that the G2/Desire Z will have lots of developer/hacker support. Honestly, that's part of the reason I'm so excited about the G2. I'll likely be keeping it for the full 2 year contract, so having a phone that's so supported by XDA is a huge advantage.

Totally agreed, I stuck with the G1 till now which definetly would not have been possible without everyone at XDA. You think that maybe Cyanogen might make a Non-Sense version and a Sense version of the ROM?

I've been done something useful on Motorola Milestone and I've ever been in HTC WiMo devices modding etc.
Selling Milestone, HTC Desire Z already ordered and waiting for its arrival. I'm in.
First of all, we have to see if it's unlocked, then we can play with the system: putting Sense on CyanogenMod maybe is possible, we'll see. I'll do better than I can.
-kholk.
I'm a little curious which one would work on at&t 3g. I prefer no sense and think cyanogen will support that before sense.

But managed to get back to stock and sent away for repair. Im willing to wait for either the Moto Atrix or LG x2. What you all think, or is there any other phones which are worth holding out for?
Im trying to get a pro/cons for both phones, I heard that the bootloader is locked on the atrix which is causing problems (unless its close to being hacked?) I haved read that the x2 is locked down so thats a bonus. Plus the x2 has the ips panel the iphone uses (lower res than the atrix, which also uses pentile...meant to be not so good upclose but I have never seen one)...however the atrix has the webtop hack over hdmi and some guy has ubuntu kinda working, which could open up a whole amazing portable pc kinda thing.
Thoughts?

My HD2 is also for sell
I have now Desire Z. This is a good device and there is a forum for Desire Z..
Only that I found that I have to learn more about Android stuffs, such as rooting, unlocking, S-OFF
Although the processor is only 800Mhz, it runs fast than Android in HD2
The price is reasonable HKD4,170 with bonus spare battery. I bought it two weeks ago in Hongkong.
Cheers...

Goodbye X10 with thanks to all

I've just picked up a Samsung Galaxy S II so my beloved X10 is going to be my backup phone.
Just want to thank all the devs and others that have helped in making using it such a great experience.

Damn at least a month before it is released here. I will be joining you soon Yeah it is definitely a great choice.
Got a message today that a phone recycling company has agreed to pay me the full working price for my mobo afflicted X10. So I only lost £2 on the deal. My 26 days with the X10 showed me A) What a good phone the X10 could be with the right ROM (tried 2 Froyos and 1 Éclair all very good) and B) How crap SE are – I had both stock 2.1 and 1.6 on the X10 and both were sh*te, never mind the bloody hardware fault. I can confidently say that will (and have) continue to opt for Android it wont be a SE handset.
OP – Had a play with a SG SII last night, very nice and what a screen. I am jealous as my replacement for the X10 is a ZTE Blade lol. Still at least the blade can function in warm weather unlike that bloody X10.
So goodbye for now XDA, I will return with something different to the Blade in October when I upgrade.

I believe, XDA IS ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT AND DISCUSSION OF CELL PHONES.
not cell phone.
i am not mad,i am just pissed of
well,if this continues, then in 1-2 years the 99% of the threads will say "leaving x10.many thanks to developers",etc.
Imagine that in all mobile sections...
and also believe me,the 90% of users, dont give a damn if i broke my x10 or it got stolen.(except when developers say it)
If you think creating nosense threads is right, then there is nothing i can do
Take care mate, enjoy your SGSII ,i myself changed to a Motorola Defy which couldnt get better (Not 2xCore but works awesomely) ,it has a locked Kernel...but you dont need it unlocked lol,has a perfect functional Multitouch,16m colors,CM7 for it with Everything working(Including camera and such),and everything ^

Welcome to a phone that actually works and gets updated. There are threads on how to get AT&T 4G cheap if and when you want to switch from that other carrier.
most perfect phone so far, sure it is...
ok guys, I think that we need such a thread cause I've noticed that everybody is posting negative threads on this device like it has only drops and mistakes.
I was a user of sgs (awesome phone)for a year, I've flashed it like hell to finally stick with cm7 which is awesome. However, even with the latest nightlies (which is a kick ass), I cant say that sgs+cm7 match the:
speed
reliability
stability
clarity (sound+image) + I miss voodoo here though
of my new sgs 2
I dont feel the same crave to root+flash the device .......yet cause it damn fasttttt by default, in fact i might root it for the advantages of having su control on it.
IMHO it is unnecessary upgrade but this device worths every single penny you pay for it
Now, the next problem is to get the games to run on the SGS2

Same here. My optimus 2x was really buggy. First one was DOA and the second one was laggy, with horrible phone call quality, backlight bleeding and useless GPS.
Belive me, o2x feels like a beta product if you compare it to sgs2.

Soon it WILL, as of now it's just in development
anyhow after owning an ios device, Android could alot use more good games.
The SGS2 is awesome and all and Touchwiz 4 is finally something which can be bragged about but this whole Tegra thing and incompatibilities annoys me about android
I know coming from ios, I went from a 3gs to an ip4, all the games still worked only better graphics, but with android, you have completely different compatibility within the operation system due to the different graphics chips, this really does disjoint android gaming.
Developers shy away from android, because of this fragmentation, but then again with the new ip5 coming out older iphones will be left behind floundering in the realms of incompatibility. There really should not be so many, tegra, xperia play etc, why not simply have automatic recognition of what chip you are using and adjust graphics to suit.

Thats the I9100G not I9100, both are totally different units HW wise.
did see that pic and it's looking nice on s2..we will have to see what he cooks up for the i9100...I've heard there is much to do to get it stable ie audio and other important things...it will get there, but it will take time ..
If I'm not mistaken though, codeworkx had a hand in the CM9 port to the I9100 as well, so I wouldn't be overly shocked if he has something to show for it as well. Either way, it comes when it comes. Until then, back to trying out new kernels!

That's exactly it. If I reaaally want to, I could go for a five minute drive and pick up a Galaxy Nexus in a few hours, but the issue is my contract still has until June 2013, so I may as well see it out. After that, my I9100 will probably sit in a draw unused. I've already ordered my Nexus 7 though, so that won't be too much longer. Finally, once my contract is up, hopefully it'll only be a few months before another Nexus phone is announced (assuming they do one roughly every year).
screamworks
I expect it will come by 2014.
Im buying a nexus device next.. I'm done waiting for the upgrade to come out..
I appreciate all the work done by CM team but they never seem to get everything working.. been running CM9 for 7months now on SGS2 and we are still using dirty hacks and workarounds to get stuff working (never works like it should, ie autobrightness, tvout)..
I'm not blaming the devs.. its all Samsung's fault and my fault for not buying a nexus device.. I actually wanna thank all the devs for doing all the work with ICS but if that is any indications of the timeframe.. I don't think CM10 will have everything working any time soon.. but I'm secretly hoping since CM is the only hope at this point..
