jelly bean and razr maxx - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I own a razr maxx gsm variant and a galaxy nexus. I really like both phones but I like the nexus better. Reason=jellybean and screen
My carrier is claro, I'm located in Puerto Rico, is there's any way I can get a stock jellybean rom. I've been looking around with no luck. Would a Verizon jelly bean work. Please point me in the right direction.

Same here...
Same here dude...
I own HTC EVO 3D and developing community there is great. Thanx to user called Agrabren I had Jelly Bean ROM (called Disarmed Toaster) almost two months ago... And it has nightlies..
I am pretty new to RAZR MAXX part of XDA forums, but I'll look it up, if I find any way to flash JB on MAXX I'll post it here...
Please do so anyone who see this thread/post.
Edit: Also, I think this is wrong part of xda forums to ask questions about JB for Moto RAZR MAXX...

yea this is the M section. which is the Mini Razr uses slightly different Hardware compared to the Maxx no normal Razr.
This is the correct area you wanna dig around in.
You guys share the same forum with the non-Maxx since Razr and Razr Maxx are the same phone with a different larger battery.

Converting to a Droid 4

Hey Folks,
Anyone tested out the Droid 4? I used to have a G1 and loved it. Now I am contemplating switching back to android but want a qwerty. G2 would be great but it seems a bit old/outdated..
Has any G2 user switched to a droid 4 (seems like the best qwerty, with little plans to make a super smartphone with a qwerty) and how is it??
Thanks.
I love my Droid 4, the keyboard is a lot better than the G2.
Pros:
Bigger Screen
Higher Pixel Density
Dual Core 1.2 Ghz CPU
1GB of RAM
Amazing Keyboard
SD Card Support
Eventual ICS
Cons:
Locked Bootloader (Still have the ability to install Custom ROMS, but no Custom Kernels)
Pentile Display (Makes some colors look more dotted)
Still on Gingerbread
Non-Removable Battery
Thanks!! Super helpful.
Hmm unfortunately the locked bootloader is quite unfortunate. Might be a dealbreaker. (Also no sim card) I swung by a VZ store today to check out the galaxy nexus and also played with the droid 4. Honestly wasnt that impressed with the keyboard, although its probably because I have been spoiled by my blackberry 9900 which has the best keyboard ever. Suppose its going to be hard to find a better keyboard.
I am now swinging towards the gnex with a prepaid plan through tmobile for $30/month (!!). Gosh I am so indecisive.
PS- check your phone OTA for updates, the guy in store was updating the Droid4 there to ICS.
Was thinking about getting a droid 4 myself but the support for it is minimal on xda, maybe its a little better on roots wiki?
The bootstrap n the names they have for recovery is a bit confusing why not just say recovery, bootloader etc.

The only official ICS for the D4 are the leaked builds, but not official OTA yet. The only Moto phone that is getting updates right now is the Droid Razr/Razr MAXX to ICS. The guy at the VZW Store must be updating to the leak builds lol.

Oh sorry perhaps he was updating the droid razr, etc rather than the droid4. It was the OTA update as I watched him do it (obviously not that carefully lol). Sorry for the false hope

Let's get to know each other

Hi to all.
First of all I would like to say sorry to any user I may of offended I did not mean.
Now to a more positive note!
I don't know how many user have the RAZR I or who them users are!
So let get to know the users here and introduce ourselves to this forum!
I'm dj_mol3y_x8 and as you can possibly tell from my previous post I have had some bad times with android starting with a x8(sony ericsson) left on 2.1 so started my experience of custom roms and kernel of which im very grateful to xda and its dev's BIG THANKS.
And from the I started to mod themes. Then move to roms and now my x8 has s3 4.0.4 rom/mod by me and my team mate. So then I got a galaxy Ace (samsung)
And that got 1 update so again me and some other users rebuilt the stock gb os to the look of jb
And now I have my RAZR I and I very happy with it despite my moaning. Once again sorry for that. And from now on you will see a much more positive mol3y.
I hope we can get to know each other a build a good, happy, spam & troll free community which I'm sure will have some good development and developers
All the best

Welcome dude!
Well, I'm Vistaus. I started out with some stupid phones (including an old Motorola), then got a Motorola Razr V6 Maxx in 2007 which is still rocking here as a backup phone! Then I moved to a stupid LG Renoir smartphone in 2009, then to an Sony Ericsson Satio in 2010 and then moved to Android to an HTC Desire in 2010. That one broke after a few months and repair was taking too long so I moved to a Motorola Milestone XT720 by the end of 2010. That one I rocked until summer 2011 when I switched to an HP Pre 3 with webOS. But earlier this year there were firmware problems in The Netherlands making it impossible to call with it and with no updates left I switched back to my Motorola V6 Maxx and finally after summer this year I bought the newly released Motorola Razr i
I also have had a Motorola Xoom in 2011. Didn't like it so my parents use it now. I then bought an HP Touchpad in 2011 and am still rocking it, partly thanks to the community (love webOS!).
I also have had multiple custom ROMS from XDA on my XT720 back in the day and on the Xoom so I'm an experienced tester with it.
Am loving my Razr i and hopefully JB comes soon to our phone!

Well, I'll give this a go then. Hi guys, I'm paco.
I started with a bunch of crappy phones here in Brazil! Then in 2010 I moved to a xperia x10 mini that nearly drove myself crazy! I started to Get to know android a bit And started working with custom roms... After a year thrashing that phone, I moved on to a Motorola Milestone 2 (A953) And liked it for a while. Then at the middle of this year, that phone went to the shop and motorola never gave it back
After I gave up on motorola giving my phone back (and sueing them of course) I bought a xt860, that I hated since no custom rom can be fully done for it due to the locked bootloader. There are some really good devs for this phone now and slowly but surely something is coming together! Now I am anxiously waiting for my razr ia to arrive, So I Thought I could start to Get to know the community and offer myself as a tester!

Hello to all, from Brazil!
HTC Touch, Sony Ericsson C905, Nokia N8, HTC Titan, RAZR i.
Those are my last phones I can remember of. I used to be a Windows Phone fanboy until I bought this amazing android phone. I can do so much more than I used to with the Titan.
I hope this community gets really strong and also jelly bean comes quickly!

Don't know, sometimes I'm dreaming about HD MAXX because of its size and back (fully kevlar looks "strong" and perfect for me) maybe will switch to soon. Will see
And now i'm happy with razr i, i hope our community will grow!
We have to use our devices and feel ourselves happy ^^
Hi,
I'm Ed from the not so sunny UK!
This is my 3rd Android phone, previously having the HTC Hero (aka G2) and the Samsung Nexus S.
Really like the size, feel and battery life of the Razr i however I did take a bit of backwards step as my Nexus S had jelly bean so I'm looking forward to that update (soon hopefully)
Both previous phones were rooted and a loads of different ROMS tried etc however I have left the razr i rooted for now as can't see much advantage in rooting it yet.
Hi, I'm Miles from the UK. Live in Scotland but originally from the north of England.
This is my fifth Android phone (Motorola Milestone -> HTC Desire Z -> Motorola DEFY -> Motorola XT910 RAZR) and it's not yet in my sticky paws as I only ordered it yesterday.
I was really looking forward to the Nexus 4, but reading about the poor battery life and glass back, made me wonder if it was the right move. Then the launch failure made me think twice. Ironically it was looking at Nexus 4 benchmarks that drew me to the RAZR i, which seemed to have good performance and great battery life. The size was the clincher, as I find my RAZR XT910 just a little too big in the hand and the pocket, but the RAZRi has the same screen, in a smaller package.
Look forward to the Jelly Bean upgrade, but I'm not going to sweat, as ICS seems pretty good with Moto's minimal skin.
Hi guys , im Marco

Hi,
My name is Ivan, I'm from Slovenia. My previous phones are Motorola MPX200, Samsung Omnia 2, Motorola Defy and Motorola Defy+. Currently I own tablet Toshiba Thrive and Motorola Razr I. As you can see I'm a big fan of Motorola because it was always phone company with broad specter of product and you can really rely on its hardware and system. It has the most advantage development too. I'm not a developer though so unfortunately you can't expect any help regarding system issues from me. I'm more on applications side and I was always trying to get the most possible from every phone. I hope that I can be useful in this forum.

Droid Razr Maxx HD not going to be updated to 4.2

Well this is certainly interesting, official statement from Motorola: "Will remain on Android 4.1.2"
So much for 18 months of support. I can't stop thinking that Verizon has a hand in this in order to force users to switch to Verizon Edge if they want the latest and greatest.
Wish I unlocked my bootloader when I had the chance :-/

Roms FTW, im on 4.3
they can kma, 4.2 has been out for what a year or so and we still dont have that.
after donating to the devs and buying a nexus 5 (asa they release) i will be on 4.4 with a new phone and still save $300.
suck on that verizon and moto!!
hrmmm... interesting. I just picked up one of these used too!

Hypothetical Question: Droid Turbo 2 and Moto X Force

I have a hypothetical question, maybe this question has been asked already for another phone but:
Is it possible to flash all the contents on a moto X force onto a Turbo 2? For example, is it possible to essentially clone a Moto X Force into the body of a turbo 2.
I am assuming root may be needed but that is another matter.
Since they are identical I would say yes. I remember topsnake ported a stock kk build from the moto x 2013 for our maxx and you used rsd to flash it. Those phones were almost identical almost. The force and turbo 2 are identical from what I have read.
Sent from my XT1585 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
i had this same theory for the original turbo and the us cdma Moto Maxx. (xt1254 and xt1250 respectively). doesnt work because of checks. maybe those models are different. fxz fails bc bootloader checks model prior to flash. hopefully, those models are not as locked down.
Yeah they would have to be ported but it is possible. But no you can't just flash it.
Sent from my XT1585 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
its possible but not now, if droid turbo 2 had unlocked bootloader you could flash the moto x force firmware, but still cellular wont work.
so, not useful.
Debloating the stock rom should be easier but you still have no root.
Thanks! It was just a hypothetical question that I thought about after reading that the two phones are nearly identical.. and the differences between the two are pretty much superficial. Looking forward to buying the moto x force
The cellular would probably work for me since I am living in Canada.

No kernels? roms?

Hi! maybe this is a "young" phone. But i come from a Galaxy Note 3 and the community was superb.
Here we barely have threads.
The Droid Turbo 2 hasn't been rooted therefore there's no kernels or roms. The X-force is rootable but no devs have picked up working on it.

We should start a bounty for buying a device for one developer that commits to the device. Just saying.
I would try to learn a thing or two about creating roms and that. I develop apps, but i suppose that is quite different.
What is the point of creating ROMs or Kernels when there is no way to use them? Figure out how to unlock the phone first, and stop putting the cart before the horse.

The non rooted phone is the Verizone version. But there's not a dedicated forum to the Moto X force (kinzie).
It's rooted, nothing more unless I missed something. Hard to use a custom kernel or ROM if all you have is root, so my point remains accurate.

The X-force has an unlocked bootloader and root, it just needs someone to start developing for it. There's already an unofficial CM rom build thread going for it.
This forum really should break the Droid Turbo 2 and X-Force into different sub forums to stop confusion. They have the LG G2 broken down by the carrier, I don't see what the issue is with doing something similar for this model.

Yeah, well people complained about that in the Quark forum for MONTHS. Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx and Moto Turbo The Verizon Droid Turbo was locked down and those owners were jealous of all the dev work going on with the unlocked bootloader version. Just like here. We had TWRP, official CM (with improved Ambient Display with IR sensors response), Mokee ROM, Nexus Experience ROM.
They finally got the fourms split in September 2015, and guess what? Droid Turbo bootloader unlocked via Sunshine November 2015. Now, they all have to go over to the Moto Maxx forum for their dev fix. More Droid Turbo owners posting in the Moto Maxx forum than Moto Maxx owners. Yeah, the kernels and ROMs work on all Quarks.
I don't think jealously is a problem, it just confuses people.

I think most devs correctly identify which device their recovery/ROM/kernel works with in the op post. If people don't even read post #1 of a thread, their own fault.
Even just casually glancing through this forum, people are identifying which Kinzie they have, Moto X Force or Droid Turbo 2. I don't see an issue.
In the Quark forum it was problematic when people insisted on just saying "Turbo". Uh, WHICH Turbo? The Moto TURBO XT1225 or Droid TURBO XT1254?
With Moto X Force/Droid Turbo 2, you don't have that to worry about.
