Firefox OS on HD2? - HD2 MeeGo Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and General

Well, someone work on port of the Firefox OS into HD2?

No.
You can be first, my friend.

I prefer open WebOS on hd2

I think, we can use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805282
I tried to run this, but I can't make kernels
Drivers and libs we can add from android...

that would be awesome:good:

it will be perfect.html5+ccs

looking frwd for that

If there isn't already anyone trying to port this, I may make an attempt. However, I've never ported an operating system before, so it'd likely take a bit of time.

Yeah, Firefox OS would be nice, but I would agree that Open webOS would be a more worthwhile effort.

Honestly, I would have done it myself if only I knew how to do it.

I would do it of I had an hd2...

me, too. I have the chance to buy it for 100 euros. is it worthwhile?

Simple answer...... Yes even if you don't use it as your daily phone.....Yes

OK since no one is really doing anything
...
I will throw up a build in the next few days that most likely wont work. If anyone wants to test, do it and tell me if it boots or not

This was actually something I'd thought of right away. I tried to cook a few Android ROMS so I know a little something. But unfortunately I don't know how to port Firefox OS. Though Android Kitchen has a function to help you porting the OS. Somebody who can post a link to the download? And Open WebOS?
Edit:
I tried porting the Galaxy Nexus version, but with no luck. I've spent a few hours trying different kinds of methods to make it work. I ended up flashing the thing, but then I got a bad NAND from MAGLDR. I think my boot.img (or zImage) don't work.
Edit2:
Then again, I'm no developer. If a developer could guide me through porting, making/analysing (boot) files, I'd be happy to try again. For now, my try ends here.
Edit 3:
Though this may help a little:
Mozilla's guide to port Firefox OS: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Firefox_OS/Porting
HTC HD2 (LEO)'s manifest: https://github.com/manhthiep/repo-manifests/blob/master/b2g_htcleo.xml
CM's drivers and stuff: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_htc_leo
Tytung's drivers and stuff: https://github.com/tytung/android_kernel_htcleo-2.6.32-ics

It is very good idea. HD2 can run Firefox OS same as Android.
but I am worry about software support for this new operating system.

While that is true, Firefox OS has aimed for low budget devices. Which will probably support only small games and apps. Doesn't mean that it gets full support, but since it's based on linux also, it sure must be easier to port it to FFOS.
While we're at it. Why not try Ubuntu Touch? xD

of course. also Ubuntu is a good choice for HD2 owners.
I hope that we can have Ubuntu or Android on our HD2 devices soon.

Ubuntu and Android are both already available on our HD2's, but you probably meant the Ubuntu Touch and Firefox OS

So, since I've been lurking here, I've been waiting for a time to ask this. Not quite sure what board this goes to but either way I'll just go ahead and ask.
Don't get me wrong. I love cyanogen 6.1.0 but I have been doing plenty of research and I want to give WP7 a shot. Now, here is the idea. What is the possibily of crossing over WP7 to an android device? I've heard on countless threads on bringing android to windows devices but can it be done the other way around? And if not, why?

The buggest problem with going to WM or WP7 is the fact that MS software is not Open Source
closest thing I have seen to a full Win7 phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864034
It's relatively straightforward to port Android to different phones, because the source code is freely available. So someone can grab the source code, write any necessary extra drivers, and have it running.
With WP7 there is no access to source code. So it's not going to happen (i.e. porting it to Android devices) unless someone manages to reverse-engineer the whole thing, and that would be a horrendously complicated and difficult task. So I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. Realistically, it's not going to happen.
Putting WP7 on a G2 is like buying a Silicon Graphics computer (not that they are still in business) and loading up Windows 98...
It has been asked before and i am sure it will be asked again (and again and again and again.....):

will the future bring windows phone 7 to the desire hd?

hello guys
i just wanted to know if it will be possible to put windows phone7 as a second system on the dhd...i know i know windows phone 7 isnt a free sourcecode..but some people get it right on the hd 2..
so i was wondering if it wouldnt work for the dhd too?
at first: YES. it is possible.
BUT: it's a LOT of effort to port WP7 to the DHD and probably no one would do it.
so there would probably never be a working WP7 version on the DHD unless you get a really good DEV to work on this
I think there is a launcher called Windows phone 7. It looks exactly the same!
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
imo Windows 7 is not necessary on DHD.
Gingerbread is great.
im pretty sure WP7 wont come to the DHD as we first of all need the source code - which we most likely wont get.
+ imo the reason why we have working wp7 builds for the HD2 is, because it already has windows framework on it, which makes it way easier to port a newer version on it.
My question would be, will windows fans ever work out how to use search on XDA?, please this question has been asked time and time again.
Sry for the question bro actually im using revolution hd 5.11 and the windows phone 7 launcher the combination of windowd design and android software is great
I doubt it will. Even though WP 7 can be ported, almost all services in WP 7 will unuseable. The one that Im waiting is Meego or Ubuntu fully ported to DHD.
When I visit a big online store (which begins with an a ;P ) at this time all wp7 devices are really cheap xD. when you want wp7 I would recommend you to buy a htc hd7 for example. At the moment you will miss something like WOW effect of something new . Tested wp7 a while on my old hd2...there are many things missing (in OS itsself) and the hype came down after a short time after release of dft.
It would be good if can make it dual boot...

Why don't we have full hardware acceleration yet in ICS?

Hello everyone,
Today, I was hoping that someone with knowledge could shed some light on this topic.
As from what I can see, the Desire, the Nexus One, the Desire HD and many other devices have already gotten full HWA with ICS.
So what is really making the HD2 fall behind? Is it because that all these device run Android natively and the HD2 doesn't ? Is it because our device is just too old? What is the main reason?
Thank you for reading, any sort of information is appreciated.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
I took a look at those forums and it appears that they do not have full HWA much the same way we don't. I noticed that the ICS roms report that there is working HWA but there are still video and camera issues resulting from lack of full HWA.
I have yet to see any phone beyond the Nexus S have full HWA yet, add to that fact we do not have a true Android device so there is always the issue of proper drivers.

If I could do it myself, I wouldn't be posting this here .
But I'm neither a coder nor a developer, furthermore, I am only asking not, not "do it for me" ..
I am just hoping that it isn't (doesn't become) like the camcorder on sense builds.
Thanks for everyone.
The reason things like hwa take so long to be written for our phone is because it isn't a native android device. With all other devices you mentioned there is a stock android rom that comes shipped out of the box, with hwa and camera drivers written by the phone manufacturer. In that case, devs only need to tweak the code to make it work on their build.
With the HD2, devs need to write it from scratch or borrow code from another device and hack the s##t out of the code to make it compatible with the HD2.
PS. Is there still a problem with camcorder on sense rom's? I've not used sense since the haret days, but it works fine on miui (2. 3.7 of course)
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
And also don't forget that now we don't have the good old developers that started the whole project like dcordes,letama,markinus,dan1j3l,darkstone and other talented guys.cotulla is still with us but I think he likes more wp7 and not android

In reply to your question about GB Sense, yes HWA has not yet been implemented yet, this is the last hurdle.

Sailfish on N900

I would love to have it ported on N900. I might even try port it to N900 as soon as I can get hold of some sort of image... Anybody else still interested in giving their N900 new life?
U are joking? Sailfish will never work on n900,so do not even dream about it.

Why not. It can be ported there, since Mer and Nemo already were. But it doesn't mean that it'll work there smoothly, since N900 has quite a limited RAM. See https://identi.ca/conversation/97151426#notice-98031241

Yes it is possible. Mer is already running on it so you just need the Sailfish UI. But it won't run smooth. It will be nearly unusable. So why should you really invest time to port it?
It would've been cool if it would run. I;ve tried running android on my n900 back in the day, but that was never smooth. I don't except jolla will either

The N900 was a device i will never ever forget. My first step into Linux systems. for the record, I was able to install and fully use Nitdroid except for receiving and making calls. Back then also, developers on various android forums were promising a complete version. it even built an auto installer for android GB installation. unfortunately due to nokia/android restrictions, it did not reach final stages..
I did not check how jolla looks,.but i am sure it can be done. not a perfect working UI but perhaps like nitdroid.

Even if you could get the drivers working (quite doubtful) and put one of the newer Android Kernels on it, performance would be disastrous. The Jolla (on hardware ~4x as powerful) is anything but a fast, smooth phone with Sailfish on board. The N900 would barely function, IMO.
Total waste of time.
Sorry for my ignorance,
So apps for Mer and sailfish are almost compatible?
Are they using QT libraries?

Nokia
Hi Falks,
I was owning a n900, and now ordered a new one. I have looked back in Maemo , nothing really changed til left, just got some pain recently with closed doors on huawei and apple. And really want a physical keyboard and total freedom , and out of the box coming with terminal....
Do we have any alternative these days the last Linux phone which had keyboard was n900 (n950 prototypes also but discontinued). I can't beleive there were no devices made for geeks. And yeas more I use touch screen in last days more I miss the keyboard. So any devices newer ARM anfra more ram and physical keyboard??? Do we have like this, and device should come with only flasher bios/bootloader included , not with any chain, I am wondering if maemo as OS would continue that would be nice, but there are rly small people working things there, more or less DYI everything. I assume development for mobile devices are now much more easier SDK + IDE is basic. With proper OS libraries almost everything easy to port, except gui, but there we need strong libraries and guidences how to use them, or ultimately has a fallback library to the original source system UI with virtualization... There wasn't really easy to dev for eg maemo as ansi C was the main, then ok Pyton, and maybe they got a good C++ compiler, but all of above relies on SDK and OS libreries/refrences....
So any n900 like mobile these days, and I am asking for real items not for failed kickstarter stuff

Ubuntu Phone OS

As we know Ubuntu Phone OS was anounced in CES 2013..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YId_dwE99U
What do you guys think of it? Do you like it? Yes? No? And the most important question.. Could we have some hopes to see it on DHD? And would you like to use it on your DHD?
I would absolutely line to see this on the desire hd. Sadly thought desire hd doesn't really meet the requirements for it

I'd like to see Ubuntu become available for the DHD. I'd definitely enjoy playing around with it. If Ubuntu for the PC could have easily run Adobe apps (out of the box) I would probably have been using it at home for the past few years. Would love to see it on our phones. It would help to breathe new life into the trusty DHD, if indeed the DHD can run it smoothly enough.

Canonical announced that the new Ubuntu OS would be available in two kinds of phones, one at the entry level and the other one called “High-end superphone."
The hardware requirements are quite acceptable. The Entry level Ubuntu smartphone needs to have at least a 1Ghz Cortex A9 (single core as the bare minimum), 512MB or 1GB memory, a 4-8GB eMMC + SD for storage, and Multi-touch capability.
The high-end Ubuntu "superphone" is a little more demanding and will need at least Quad-core A9 or Intel Atom processors, minimum 1GB for memory, minimum 32GB eMMC + SD for storage, and Multi-touch.
The difference between the two models will consist in what Canonical calls “Desktop convergence.” With the help of a dock and a monitor, the high-end Ubuntu "superphone" can be turned into a thin client for Ubuntu.

despite the fact that QSD8255 architecture is simliar to Cortex A8, it easily reaches 1.5-1.7Ghz and with 700MB RAM it should be well above the minimum requirements, so performance shouldn't be an issue in any way..... Let's hope devs will succeed in integrating A8 based CPUs drivers.
I doubt, that it will be usefull. Just think about all the apps that support sharing with other OS and the SaaS through browsers. no need for DHD ubuntu here.
Ubuntu is a hell ride on desktop due to Unity. Hope it becomes joy ride on mobile phone.

Hey,
I think one of the main problem will be the disk space because I think it will be impossible to run a dual dual on a acceptable speed. But as on every OS, the apps will decide.
Anyway, it will be nice to see some players on the field of the market
I think Ubuntu Phone OS will work with DHD. Its Linux Kernel, Linux OS. Its would be great when they release the source code.
Just remember HTC Said about the Sense 4.0 it will not work correctly on the DHD, it will lag. Now the DHD has Sense 4.1, we also have jellybean and icecream sandwich.
For the DHD there is no such word as can't.
I think it would take a long time to port Ubuntu to DHD
