***XPERIA Z, ZL and C670X 2013 FLAGSHIPS*** News and Rumors*** - Xperia Z General

Let the rumor mill begin!!
According to Xperia Blog Sony C650X ‘Odin’ model number uncovered [2013 flagship] and C660X YUGA are appearing in benchmarks
Sony Mobile is revamping its model numbers from 2013 onwards. Gone is the ST/MT/LT code structure to denote small, medium and large touchscreen handsets. Instead what we now have is a new five character model number that will be the new standard going forward.
The User-Agent Profile (UAProf) for Sony Mobile’s 2013 flagship, codenamed ‘Odin’, has been discovered (see an extract below). From the brief information, we can tell that there are three new Sony Mobile model numbers: C6502, C6503 and C6506. We understand that these are all one handset – the different last character in each model number denotes the region/carrier to be released. The UAProf shows that this 2013 flagship is running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean with 10.1.A.0.XXX firmware. Excited? Let the 2013 Xperia rumours begin.

New Sony C670X details leak: 4.8-inch FHD display, 1.8GHz Snapdragon 600 [Update]
We have received word of a new Sony Xperia C670X handset that is due to launch this summer. The information comes from a tipster who recently provided us with the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean screenshot for the Xperia Z. Obviously, as with any rumour, treat all of the following with a pinch of salt.
In terms of specifications, the Sony C670X is expected to come with a slightly smaller display than the Xperia Z (C660X) at 4.8-inches but will still have a full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920. The C670X will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 (APQ8064T) chipset with 1.8GHz quad-core processor and Adreno 320 graphics. Other features include 2GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and a 13MP Exmor RS camera. We are told the phone is due to launch in the middle of 2013 with Android 4.2.
Along with all of this spec information, we were sent a render of the Sony C670X. We cannot tell from the picture if the C670X has a heavy glass influence like the Xperia Z or uses aluminium. Judging from the render, the ear speaker is similar in style to the Z/ZL. It looks like the top of the phone includes a front-facing camera , notification light, light sensor and proximity sensor.
Given that the expected release is still a number of months away, the design may end up changing prior to launch. This is perhaps why there are no app icons in the display area, the render only shows the latest Xperia wallpaper. Anyway, that’s all we have for now. As mentioned before, treat all of this firmly as a rumour.
Update: The image sent over is the same as used in the set up guide for the Xperia Z, despite it clearly not being a picture of the Xperia Z. So either this Sony render is a generic placeholder image used when setting up a new 2013 Sony Xperia handset or it is indeed an image of an upcoming handset that Sony has inadvertently used in the Xperia Z. [Thanks Kihoon!]

What's the fuss about 4.2 it hasn't gone official yet and people are demanding for it, 5in? too much for a smartphone.. OLED display? too much saturated plus BE2 very saturated. I think the more plausible approach is the new Exmor RS sensor and remove the overcompression issue, "C" reminds me of the cybershot and Sony please make it good this time, make it reach the market also ASAP, latest 2012 line have been announced but very few customers are getting it and losing interest.
I think this phone should have a slim design,
good GPU Adreno 320/latest POWERVR
at least 2100 mah
opticontrast display on V or even X-reality engine on their TV's (rather impossible but maybe..)
Camera that's on par or even better than what's on iphone 5 (Not an apple fanboy but we cannot deny how Apple uses Sony's image sensors to the fullest)
Latest OS out of the box that is optimized for the hardware and wont get crappy when updated to another version (2010,2011 and 2012 lines when updated to latest OS Versions sucked big time; JB out of the box more realistic since very few devices are running JB, wont get crappy if updated to rumored Key Lime Pie)

The Sony C660X "Yuga" has just appeared in benchmarks.
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/10/12/sony-c660x-yuga-unveiled-in-benchmark/

Awesome, seems to have a quad-core S4

im going to buy the v when it comes , no more waiting , they release devices so late that their new device sounds better then the one released... im going to be stuck with my ray forever!!

Benchmark confirms 1080p display for Sony C660X ‘Yuga’
We are slowly piecing together a jigsaw of some awesome hardware for Sony Mobile’s 2013 flagship device(s). What we know so far is that there will be two sibling flagships – the Sony C650X ‘Odin’ (C6502, C6503, C6506) and Sony C660X ‘Yuga’ (C6603). They will be armed with a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset (APQ8064 & Adreno 320 graphics) and MDM9615 baseband chip with LTE support. These phones are currently being tested with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean and 10.1.A.0.XXX firmware.
Now we can confirm that the Sony C660X ‘Yuga’ will have a 1080p (1920 x 1080) display following an appearance in the NenaMark2 benchmark. The benchmark actually points to a resolution of 1794 x 1080, but 126 pixels are likely being used for the on-screen buttons introduced in Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The entry has already been removed from the NenaMark website, but still appears in Google Cache results.
Screen size still remains a mystery for now, but we can make some educated guesses. It is very unlikely to be sub 5-inches given the 1080p display resolution. We know that LG and Sharp have announced their own 5-inch 1080p displays. However, the biggest hint comes from a recent announcement from Japan Display Inc (JDI). For those that don’t know, JDI is a new company for small and medium-sized displays formed in April 2012 through the integration of Sony Mobile Display, Toshiba Mobile Display and Hitachi Displays. It recently announced that it has started to mass produce a 5.0-inch TFT-LCD IPS display module with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution and 443 PPI.
We do wonder if a smartphone display with pixel density over 400 PPI is a bit overkill though and whether we’d even be able to tell the difference from a 300 PPI device. We’re also not sure what kind of demands this would have on battery life, but it sounds superb nonetheless and all evidence suggests it will come to the next Sony Xperia flagship.
Via Rbmen.
Thanks @musumappa!

I love this performance!

According to Xperia Blog: First Sony C6603 ‘Yuga’ sample picture appears
The first sample picture from the Sony C6603, codenamed Yuga, has appeared on Picasa. The picture itself isn’t revealing as it appears to be of a Chinese poster. The EXIF information doesn’t reveal anything we don’t know either – the compressed image hides what sensor this phone will have. However, we understand it will be running a 13MP Exmor RS CMOS sensor. This particular model is running 10.1.A.0.270 firmware (Android 4.1.1). Both Yuga (C660X) and Odin (C650X) are expected to be the Sony Mobile 2013 flagship models. We’ll bring you more information as we have it.*

Who knows if that's the final design. If it is I my opinion it doesn't look that great compared to the nxt series and the arc. Flat back is nice but the sides doesn't look that great especially with the silver power button. Looks weird doesn't blend in like the tx.
I guess I'll be waiting for the Xperia x, q4 of 2013~

There's also Odin which hasn't been leaked yet but it might look similar.
Personally I agree that it looks not as good as the arcs or NXT phones but it still looks good. But a glass back concerns me. I'm fairly careful with my phone but one drop with Yuga and its game over.

And plus its 5 inch. I can't handle it with a single hand.
and also since it's a glass back I doubt this phone would have a removable battery. ><

It is the same price, if not lower, than their direct counterparts from other companies. The iPad was costing $100 more at the time of the release.
Also, more supposed specs:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...ia-tablet-z2-press-renders-leak-onto-twitter/
WiFi: 426g, LTE: 439g. Both lighter than the iPad Air
Dimensions: 266 x 172 x 6.4mm (Except for thickness, which is less than the actual model), has the same exact dimensions as our model.
Considering they follow the Z1 design (Magnetic charger, Aluminium borders), it's impressive that they did all of that, but with the same battery size.
so... because the overpriced ipad was overpriced, that means it was perfectly acceptable for sony to overprice theirs? lol
I wonder why sony just sold off their computer business? and soon their tv business as well? maybe b/c they overpriced their products and hardly anyone bought them?
I've got a tablet z and it's the best one I've owned, I just hope the z2 brings a good kitkat rom as everything for the Z after the original 4.1.2 has been ****e!
Let's face it anything without Apple has to be f=good anyway, I'd pay a premium just to avoid it.
I don't think 500 bucks for a premium device is too much. Sometimes, and with some companies, they are too overpriced, but you pay for what you get.
The iPhone, for example, is a bit overpriced, but it is what you get: A premium device.

Sony D6503 Aka Sirius and Xperia Z2 Tablet currently both are running 17.1.A.0.XXX KitKat firmware and same features will come on Z2 Tablet hopefully which we saw in D6503 firmware leak
I wouldn't be too happy with the headphone port on the bottom edge.
I was hoping for better screen resolution.
It looks cool but i might skip it as i just bought the tablet z 3 months ago and the Z2 doesn't seem to be THAT much of an impovement
But i do hope we get kit kat with all the features on the tablet Z

IPS is a LCD type. Triluminos is a LCD modification. Something to do with quantum dots and white backlight replaced by a blue one. It adds more colors to the range that LCD generally supports.
IPS and Triluminos can coexist. Such as with the Z1 Compact and Z Ultra, for example.

I like the specs. 1920x1200 is actually my preference. I got a Asus TF701 which has 2592х1944 resolution. I don't see added benefits really. My movies are at most 1080 anyway. The higher resolution drains the battery more and slows the device down. I like the light weight and thinness even at the expense of the battery capacity. I don't mind charging more frequently to exchange for light weight. My TF701 makes me wrist sore. Having Kitkat is an added bonus. Even Sony decided not to do any Android upgrade, I'd be happy. Kitkat made my $160 Chinese 8.9" iFive X2 tablet fly as compared to the previous JB 4.2.2 firmware. I totally can be happy enough with Kitkat only.
If it's $500 or less, I'll order it as soon as it comes out.

The added benefits of higher display panels is that they are easier on the eyes Especially if you am into reading books or PDF that's where the extra pixels shine
They have a new one! Dammit! >:|:banghead:
Very disappointed with the screen resolution, needs to be higher for a premium tablet.
Will skip this one

Xperia Z2 vs. LG G3

With the LG G3 just around the corner, the decision for which handset to choose has been made so much tougher. I'm wondering where current or prospective Z2 owners stand. Personally i've been waiting for the Z2 in my country for quite some time now but after seeing the video and press renders of the potential LG G3, I have to say my mind has been swayed in LG's direction. Thoughts?
I just love my z2 and won't be going for g3 in any case

I'm not much moved by the g3 by any means, though it is a gorgeous device... Im still getting the z2 in 2 weeks
I think lg gonna suffer in what matters the most to me, that is battery life. I mean, its fricking huge 5.5inch with 2k resolution and less battery capacity than g2. And not like you will notice more ppi cause we already have more than enough. We will see, but numbers doesnt sound to well

I too am on the same boat with you, though it has been released some weeks ago here in Sweden, I haven't yet decided (the only concern is 16 Gb storage in Z2, am currently having htc OneX, 32 Gb, so it would be a great upgrade from many aspect, except the storage as it will turn out to a downgrade. I know there's external sd, but moving app data to that ext-sd is no longer supported in Android afaik) better to wait for G3 I think. If it also fails then Note4 can be the next alternative

I hate screen size more than 5.3
Sent From My Sony Xperia Z2 D6502 White
I think that:
Sony Xperia Z2 > LG G3
Areas where Sony wins:
+Build (aluminium vs plastic on G3)
+IP Rating (most likely G3 will not be water resistant)
+Front-facing speakers
+Screen size (5.2 inch seems plenty, 5.5 is a phablet)
+Sony's skin (LG has one of the uggliest ones on the market)
+20.7MP camera (as shown in many reviews it is one of the best if not the best in the world)
Areas where LG G3 wins:
+ Snapdragon 805 (vs 801 on Sony, Has anyone even got close to using up the potential of 801 yet? [maybe 4k recording])
but of course we want know for sure until the device is officially unveiled.

Let's see what the laser pointer on the back is for
But I do agree that every manufacturer should be bringing an exclusive feature to their phone as that motivates others to improve. I have tested the Galaxy S5 and the Z2 and currently am in the process of testing the HTC One M8 and for me Xperia Z2 is king. Each phone has features that I like though.

The only downside of the z2 is it's size, it looks like the 5.5 inch G3 is the same size as the 5.3 inch Z2.
I agree, I would say that a lot of the decision would probably come down to one handed usability personally. If the dimensions of the handsets are the same, I would be swayed more to the one that has the better feel in hand. A better processor to future proof things is obviously an added benefit and OIS is something nice to have. These screen's are just pushing my boundaries though. I remember 2 years ago i said i would never go over 4.7" and then last year i'll never go over 5" with my Galaxy S4, and here we are pushing 5.2 and now possibly 5.5? I don't think a phablet is what I want and could be the deciding factor. Side note: a lot of new reviews from today and yesterday are really praising the Z2. Decisions decisions.

Sony is actually taller and wider:
Sony Xperia Z2: 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2 mm
HTC One M8: 146.4 x 70.6 x 9.4 mm
Because the HTC is more oval it also feels less thick than it actually is and it is a lot more comfortable in one hand. I have tested both and can say that when it comes to just the design the HTC is superior. Sony wins in most other aspects though

Tbh I would rather have a slightly smaller screen and front-facing speakers
For me, 5.2 is really as big as you want in a phone. Anything bigger is heading into Phablet territory so they are 2 very different phones. You can always wait and newer better phones will always come along.
Ive always had Samsung for a while but the Z2 was good enough on paper to jump ship and its a great phone, no regrets. As others have said, great build quality and specs which we all know. If you want to continue waiting regarding the LG, may as well wait a little longer for the rumoured Note 4 which will be even better and they are more comparable given its screen size.
In an hour and a half we shall see what my next phone will be. All the leaks seem promising, this will be a tough choice. I think if the overall dimensions are the same and it has metal construction, it would be a no brainer to go for the LG.
Dimensions are already available, its just a little bigger than z2. Dont fancy even wider phone
Assuming the leaks are true, here's my pre-annoucement breakdown:
G3:
+ larger screen, similar sized body
+ QHD screen, although personally this is arguable the Z2 screen is pretty amazing.
+ OIS camera
+ possibly quicker focusing
Z2:
+ 3GB RAM
+ more traditional button placement
+ waterproof IP58
+ 20MP 1/2.3" sensor w/ f/2.0 lens
Unknowns:
- Battery life, Z2 has excellent battery life
- G3 build/materials (matters for some)
- Removable battery
- QHD resolution impact on performance
Who knows, LG may have some more surprises but that's just how I see things. On the screen side of things, I'll be interesting if it's a pentile screen, and honestly I've always loved high res displays but I'm wondering if QHD would look any different than FHD on a 5" screen. Also there are more to displays than just resolution, color reproduction, white balance, brightness etc etc should also be considered.
Even assuming the G3 is waterproof with a QHD display, metal build and a removable battery, I'd still prefer a Z2 for it's excellent, large size camera sensor, exceptional battery life, larger RAM, and sexy looks.
G3 is made of metal
Apparently has a removable battery and
is the same size as the Z2

With the knock on thing, the power buttons placement is not going to be an issue either.
It looks great. The even starts in 20 minutes.. I'll be watching it.

Unless having bionic eyes, QHD is totally useless on screen smaller than 6". So, this is just a marketing argument.

Sony Xperia Z4 Thread

I know it's a little early but there's already info leaked on the upcoming Xperia Z4, which will most likely make it's debut in 2 months during CES in January.
So far we know the following:
New rumors:
Perhaps you've already consumed breakfast, and it is too early for lunch. Still, it is time for you to head toward the spice rack and pull out the salt, because we suggest that you take this story with a least a grain of the stuff. A report published on Saturday lists the rumored specs for both the Sony Xperia Z4 Compact and the Sony Xperia Z4 Ultra. You could say that when it comes to Sony's first half smartphone releases for 2015, this will be the long and short of it.
The Sony Xperia Z4 Compact is expected to maintain the tradition of previous Xperia Compact models by offering flagship type specs in a, well, compact package. For the Xperia Z4 Compact, that means a 4.7-inch screen with a 1080 x 1920 resolution. That combination should provide a high pixel density. Under the hood will be the Snapdragon 810 CPU and there will be 3GB of RAM on board. The device will feature 32GB of native storage and will be equipped with stereo speakers. Back and front-facing cameras will weigh in at 20.7MP and 5MP, respectively. The Xperia Z4 Compact will have IP68 certification and come with LTE Cat.9, Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC connectivity. While a precise battery capacity wasn't leaked, the phone should offer wireless charging.
The Sony Xperia Z4 Ultra will be equipped with a 6.44-inch screen, with a resolution of 1440 x 2560. It also will employ the Snapdragon 810 CPU and have 3GB of RAM inside. A 16MP camera adorns the back of the unit, and the phablet is said to resemble an overgrown Sony Xperia Z3. While the Sony Xperia Z Ultra supported the use of a pencil as an input tool, the Xperia Z4 Ultra will come with its own stylus. The battery capacity for the handset needs to be large to support the huge screen, and the talk is that the cell will weigh in between 3500 and 4000mAh. This is quite a bit different than previous rumors of a Xperia Z4 Ultra with a 5.9-inch glass, powered by a Snapdragon 805 chipset.
Due to the shortages of the Snapdragon 810 chipset, both of these models are now expected to be delayed with a possible launch during the second quarter of the year. On the other hand, the Sony Xperia Z4 and Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet are both expected to be introduced on January 5th, just before the start of the 2014 CES show.

You already knew that Sony have been open about their 6 month flagship phone window.
The good news is that they are planning to change this with the Xperia Z4 and just keep it as their only flagship for 2015. (I'm guessing they may do a successor to the Z Ultra halfway through the year like Samsung does with it's Galaxy and Note phones)
That would be interesting, maybe i could sell my z3 and save the. money to buy a z4, but first have to check if z4 is as good as it seems to.
I like the Z3's speaker openings in the glass. Looks like the Z4 is going back to the Z2 look somewhat, hope not though. It couldn't hurt them if they reduced the top and bottom bezels and made it slightly rounder. I'm hoping they make changes for final production. Z4/M9/G4 can't wait for them.
Although difficult to say with any degree of certainty, it appears that the display size will remain at 5.2"... GSM Arena seems to think so also... However the resolution will most likely jump to 2K.
I, for 1, am def content with 5.2" AND 1080p resolution.

The 6 month update schedule is what I love about Sony! Keeps my addiction alive
I won't be getting the Z4 if it moves to a 5.5" display. That's just too big. Z3 is like perfect right now.
I say that now, but if the Z4 camera is godlike.... who knows.

It also makes harder to improve a device, less resources and attention to fixing issues/improvements, since they will be prepping a new model much more quickly.
I'm not banking on a Z4 release until the IMX230 is available, which I thought was March/April 2015 timeframe. The IMX230 is almost enough to make me wait on the Z4 (Z3 en route), but if the phone is substantially larger, I won't have any interest at all.

I really hope that Verizon continues on with Sony. I have the z3v and absolutely love it.

This.
The Z3 with 5.2" is perfect size. Anything bigger is just too big for my pockets, unless they reduce the bezel to compensate. Yeah, the camera will be one of the most important thing I'll be looking for on the Z4, seeing the Z3 is pretty horrible at the moment. I don't care much for the 2K resolution gimmick on these tiny screens--they are useless. 1080p is just fine. Also, I hope the quality assurance on the new Z4 line will improve. The Z3 line is just not acceptable from experience.
Well that is unless they go the LG route and reduce the top and bottom dead space to get a 5.5" screen. Sony however refuses to do that for some reason.
I'd prefer front facing speakers then non-existent top/bottom bezels.
Also, I've been managing to get very nice 20.7 manual pics. If u know how to use this camera & do a little homework, it can be quite impressive. Is there room for improvement in the software however - definitely. So far the Z3 has the least amount of cons vs pros then any other device I've owned or used - & I've certainly had a plethora, hehe.

Taking a look at the supposed pictures of the digitizer , the screen size looks identical to the z3, I don't want them to go quad HD and bigger if they keep the huge bezels, if they do get rid of the bezels maybe they will go with a small battery or just keep the same capacity for the battery and we know 3000 mah is not enough for QHD just ask the G3 and the nexus 6 owners
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 5
Totally agree Chad, I was going to upgrade to an LG G3, then I saw they battery life and it felt like a downgrade from my LG G2. They put a low contrast power hungry screen just so they could show they have QHD which is practically useless in phones (my opinion).
Maybe battery will go on 3900 or 4000 mA, like the new moto maxx
So far the specs look like a beast, let's just it's affordable.
Out of all the things listed, I personally find myself more impressed that they made the USB port to be waterproof. That's truly a step up to their waterproofing innovation.
Also the Z4 to take in some Z2 designs, it looks like Sony is definitely following the successful non-faulty designs of the Z2/Z3v to keep itself waterproof unlike certain Z3 models.

Sony announces the xperia z4

Today Sony Mobile officially announced the Xperia Z4 on their Japanese website. The Xperia Z4 will be the company's flagship smartphone for 2015, sitting alongside Sony's flagship tablet which is called the Xperia Z4 Tablet. Based on the specifications provided by Sony, it certainly looks like they've done everything possible to make it fit that role with regards to its hardware. Thankfully, Sony's launch page gives pretty much every specification one could be interested in, and I've organized them in the chart below.

The specifications for the Z4 are certainly appealing. Potential speed and thermal issues relating to Snapdragon 810 aside, the Z4 packs what is basically the best internal hardware available for smartphone manufacturers at the moment. Snapdragon 820 won't be available until the second half of this year at the absolute earliest, and so MSM8994 paired with 3GB of RAM is the fastest you'll see in an Android smartphone that isn't the Galaxy S6.
What may be notable for some is the decision to stay with a 1920x1080 LCD. Given the issues with power consumption and brightness with current 2560x1440 LCD panels, and the relatively limited improvement to sharpness at this display size, I think that staying with a 1080p display was the right decision to make with the Z4.
Design wise, the Xperia Z4 bears a great deal of similarity to its predecessor, the Xperia Z3. While it's not a full metal unibody design, it does have a metal frame surrounding the outside of the device. At 6.9mm it is as thin as the iPhone 6 which is impressive. Sony has also been able to include one of their 20.7MP sensors without introducing a camera hump, although the compromise is its 25mm focal length. Like most of Sony's recent products, the Xperia Z4 has an IP65 / IP68 rating for dust and water protection, which is something that now differentiates it from the flagship devices offered by other manufacturers.
At the moment, Sony hasn't provided any information about when an international release of the Xperia Z4 can be expected. It follows that the price is also unknown, although one can guess that it will be around the same price as this year's other flagship devices.

When do they learn to put bigger batteries into these devices?
well, Sony didn't announce it as the flagship of 2015... it's not buddy, this is an exclusive release for japan only, and it won't go for sell world wide.. sony is cooking something for the international release which will be the sony's first flagship for 2015, under the name of Xperia Z5, and it'll probably land in the mid of this summer or in IFA 2015 in Germany.
Other than the 810, what is the actual difference to the Z3?...

My Z2 running SD 801 is already blazing fast. Does it matter what SOC or type of RAM are being armed? Unless you're doing autoCAD on your phone? Lol

I really wanted to see the xperia z3 being the company's flagship for a solid year (September 2014 - September 2015). I guess they're going into the same tactic again.....
I have also heard that Sony mobiles are closing their mobile department. It's good to hear that Sony Xperia Z4 is coming soon. Sony is best among providing mobiles with latest technology.
They have got to improve display. I am not even a picky person when it comes to color accuracy on mobile, but Xperia's screens are so bad for photos and videos. It just doesn't make sense Sony of all OEMs can't get display right on their flagships. (Well, camera is another one that puzzles me but for me display is more immediate)
