I want an unlocked device, n7100? Or should i wait for n7105? - Galaxy Note II General

I definitely want an unlocked Note II. I'd like LTE, but is it really necessary? Not sure if it's worth paying for a higher priced data plan?
What are others thinking on this?

Well, LTE is along way off in my area. I just ordered the n7100 tonight. I'm not much if a data hog and figure HSPA+ is plenty fast enough. Honestly, I'd rather have faster updates than a chance to connect to LTE. The carriers in the US are so slow to roll out anything new. Different strokes for different folks though.

LTE, on ATT anyways, doesn't cost extra.

Well, both the N7100 and the N105 are both unlocked so you wouldn't have to worry about carriers either way..

As far as I know N7105's not supported on this forum right? ROM, CWM are all not flashable?

Well, it's not out yet, so the ROMs here will not work on it. But, the name of this forum is 'Galaxy Note II' not 'N7100' so I assume that when the time comes, you will be able to find roms for the N7105 here.

do you know when the release date?

15th here in the UK i believe... although i was told by a couple of 3 reps that there phones are 4g so possibly 3 have got some already?

Three have been telling some customers incorrectly that the 7100 is 4G capable.

Yep. Don't rely on what the networks tell you, their knowledge is limited at best.
I'm going to get a 3G one - In the UK at least it looks like LTE is going to come at a premium to start with. Look at these prices from T-Mobile

Well, I have an N7105, and I flashed it using Odin and CWM both of which I got off this forum and it worked fine for me. Now I am just waiting for more people to get this phone so the Stock ROM can be released on this forum as well. I'd like the option to un-root it for warranty reasons. Anyways, the flashing definitely worked.

Attached are my AnTuTu benchmark test results. And, yes, mine is the LTE enabled version (SHV-E250L, N7105).
What is weird is that the top phone listed on the Bar Chart part of the AnTuTu test results is the Galaxy Note II but my test results, as you can see, came in 4 below - even below the Galaxy SIII. Anyone know any possible reasons why? Did I do the benchmark wrong? Should I have closed all my background apps and processes? I am really confused now...

Pretty good actually. With moderate to high usage (Netflix, Web searching, etc.) the Battery lasts me at around 8 - 10 hours. When it gets to about 15%, I usually just switch out the battery for the fully charged and included second battery. So far, I've never really had a problem with battery life.

Where's the Wi-Fi love!

This is mostly just me, after a whole 24 hours of being a Note 10.1 owner (woot, go me) being annoyed that its the 3G owners that have gotten all the update goodies!
Germany got theirs a month ago, UK got theirs today... but only the 8000 models.
In theory this would mean that the 8010/8013 models will get released in Germany first, and then in the UK a month after that...
I really really *really* hope that this is not the case though. For this would be... vexing.
Saying that, I'll probably end up rooting and putting the uk 8000 rom onto my tablet anyway, as I am an impatient soul. But it is the principle of the thing that counts!
I think the reason this whole thing bothered me is this poll I saw the other day - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871383
If the 3G model was the most popular, then prioritising that firmware would make sense. It seems as though the WiFi models are by far the most prolific though!
OR.... WiFi users are more likely to answer polls.
Keep wishing hard guys, maybe we will get an update soon. and then hopefully someone will finally do a non-8000 custom rom!!
I have just decided to enjoy what I have for now. 8010 update before Christmas at some time will be fine with me. I dumped an iPad and a transformer 101 for my note and one for my other half. We are pleased.
Being a software developer I know the importance of good testing and would rather wait than have to put up with junk. Just my tuppence worth.

Yep the 8000 firmware, I don't notice any drawbacks. It's stable like ics, a lot smoother, battery life same as ics 3days 10.5hrs screen. The only thing is you gotta set govonor on-demand

Only real noticeable drawback is that if you use a USB toggle to connect a wireless keyboard or mouse it will drop signal on the German OTA. Other than that and the OnDemand thing as mentioned earlier it works fine on the 8013.

I'm using "Team Union Rom" 8000 on my 8010 wifi without any problems what's so ever. All you have to do is use SetCPU which comes with the Rom to scaling: on-demand and check set on boot. No os issues, no random reboot all fine.

I'm pretty peev'd about this too. Can't believe that a non-3G device is getting the updates last of all. Surely theres no modem nor carrier testing to worry about so it should have actually been the first to be released?

There is a work around but I care not to implement it as it still means turning a security feature off which is not worth it just for my sake!!.

I'm also a new owner of this tablet(closing in on 3 weeks). I have a Galaxy Nexus, so I know what it feels like to get updates fast. It's a little troublesome waiting for Samsung to update this device. I told myself that I wouldn't complain since Google probably takes around the same amount of time putting together updates, but they have the luxury of seeming fast by putting them out first. What I don't understand is why Samsung is releasing the JB update for the the 3G version first. This may be due to my ignorance, if so please excuse it, but I thought it would be easier to update the WiFi version especially considering they're pretty much done the development of it.

KitKat Rolling Out on Rogers

Ran a software update check this morning on my Rogers Note3, after my friend mentioned he got KitKat on his Bell S4 on the weekend. Sure enough, 400+MB update was available.
Servers were slow (both my home Wi-Fi and LTE were getting the same speed. Took about an hour to download). Install went smoothly and only took 2-3 minutes. And KitKat it is.
I'm using Nova Launcher, so the only immediately visible change is that all the icons in the status bar are plain white. Otherwise, I perused through the system settings and didn't see much that was different beyond the addition of a "Printing" option under Connections > More networks, and the odd change here and there. However, things do feel smoother and basic stuff like unlocking the device has no lag at all.

I'm not really sure what you mean?
Bell, Rogers and Telus all use the same versions of most phones as what AT&T in the U.S. offer, as their networks share the same spectrum ranges. So when the manufacturer of a phone (Samsung) releases an OS update for an AT&T model phone, all four companies then have access to that and can tweak that update and release it to their customers when they wish. Typically (though not always) that means that all of the companies release updates to their customers around roughly the same time.

I just wonder if they actually believe people use all or any of their bloatware. if their products were in a store it would be already marked down and discontinued.
I unrooted my Rogers Note 3 with Kingo and managed to download the update file on my device. Once I began the install it failed and rebooted. Any ideas?

Sprint Does Bloatware Right

I really like how Sprint installs the vast majority of a device's bloatware after you set up the device. It means you can simply uninstall it and it's actually gone. It's not just disabled or frozen. I understand the business reasons behind bloatware and of course I'd prefer it not be there at all. That said, since it isn't going away, I wish all carriers would adopt Sprint's method rather than cluttering up the system partition with it. Thoughts?
Sent from my Galaxy Note 4 using Tapatalk
Agreed. I've been with them awhile now and they are really easing up on it recently.
I guess this helps them get the product out faster since they don't need to bake these programs in the ROM anymore.
The most recent update I received (I've had like 3 of them already) pushed the additional bloatware, but when I try to uninstall it, it doesn't give the option. Can't wait until we can root this thing.

Just the same as carrier branding on sprints phones... there is little to none. I like it that way. I dont go walking down the street, see someone with a huge wart of a verizon logo on the phone and say to myself, "im getting Verizon". Its rediculous that carriers have to put their big old stamp on otherwise beutiful hardware. Same goes for software. I dont see the point in 20 apps that simply take you to the carriers website. Sprint has its share of bloat but its not nearly as bad as others.
Agreed. When it comes to bloatware, AT&T is by far the worst. I owned their Galaxy S5 and there were 17 apps that were specifically installed by AT&T. They even preinstall an app called ReadyToGo which replaces the standard welcome/setup screen (when you turn the device on for the first time) with one that's got AT&T's brand all over it. That's just obscene.

Oh, but it will.. And it does. Rooting alone allows you to do most of the things you can do on a custom ROM, but you're doing it to the stock ROM. Even without a custom recovery, you can still modify system files, freeze/uninstall system apps, run root apps, etc.

Where did you hear that the battery life isn't good?
I typically get 2.5 days per full charge with between 4.5 and 6 hours of screen on time per charge depending on if I am reading, or doing media (games, youtube).
If anything I would wait for the Note 5, but that will be a while. I'd suggest getting the Note 4 because it's quite simply a very amazing beast of a phone and then using JUMP to upgrade in 6 months if you so desire.

i also have an upgrade available but im not sure if i should use it on the note 4. it is tempting but in a few months the m9 will be here along with other s810 processor based devices. Plus i hear the n4s battery life isnt that great.

Welcome to the majors op. You'll love it. I had an m8 before. The freedom of having an unlocked bootloader, root, and plenty custom roms got me away from HTC, as well.
No more having to s-off and the firewater exploits being closed and lack of roms.

It's way easier to root the note 4:
You're in in 5.
Here are the instructions:

Had to do one at my parents house.
It took me 10 minutes because I was downloading a rom, at the same time, and my parents internet sucks.
