defy + sd card problem - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have accidentally formatted my SD card in ext3 file system mode and now my phone cannot read it.Even when i connect the phone to the computer in usb memory card mode...the sd card is not shown in the computer. So i am not being able to format it again. Please tell me how to reformat it back to fat32 ....

Use EASEUS Partition Master, it will read your SD card in EXT3 format and will allow you to manage / format it!

open disk management (start->run->diskmgmt.msc) and erase your ext3 partition (doable in windows)

If you have any trouble doing this while the card is in your phone, you can also remove it and use an USB Card Reader.
But as said before, you just have to change the unit type to get it working again.
Good luck.

You can use a USB Card reader and this software: "hp disk storage format tool".

I can't do that when I try to it doesn't list the sd as an option. I just have the delete partition ioption but when I remove and re insert my sd it still reads as ext2. idk if I fried the card this sux tho it was only like 3 months old..
Download gparted and boot into that.
Was having similar problems with my sd card. In order to get it to work I used the recovery cd in paragon and it finally read it correctly which allowed me to format it. The recovery cd is provided in paragon. Just go to the "Boot and Rescue" section and follow the steps to create one. Then just restart your computer with it in your dvd drive and it wil automatically boot to it, unless you have that changed for some odd reason.
And the sd card must be in a card reader other than the g1 (a usb reader will work). It just won't mount correctly through the recovery disc of you use your phone

[Q] Help, my 16GB now shows as 8GB after 1GB partition in ClockWorkMod

I received a new 16GB micro SD card and put it into my phone.
I partitioned it in ClockWorkMod and started moving files (Music, photos etc) from the computer to my new card. While copying the blue screen of death came up on my laptop. This never happened before but upon reboot I tried to carry on copying files and it came up saying I have to format my card. I tried to format but it refuses to so I tried a full format, that didnt work either.
My 16GB micro SD card is now reading as 8GB. Can anyone help???
Have you tried removing the partition in gparted and then formatting?

I have, it comes up as saying the memory card failed to format.
You can't just format...you're going to have to repartition the card. You can use gparted like nokn suggested or any of the various windows partition tools out there. After you have set up the partition(s) you can format the card.
Just wondering what settings you used with the SD Formatter?
Did you enable RESIZE? Did you do a FULL Format with Erase on?
These two settings are pretty important. Another thing to look at would be [email protected], you can "KILL" a whole drive, which essentially writes a ZERO from beginning to end of the drive.

I opened up a program called Partition Wizard and I managed to unallocate the partition and then resize the card to fat but only up to 8GB. It still refuses to be formatted or for anything to be written on it.

In SD Formatter v3.0.0.0 I opened options I selected Format Type as Full Erase and Format Size Adjustment as On and it came back as failed. Now my card is showing up as 8MB . It is also saying the memory card is write protected.

Sd card cannot be accessed by laptop

Much help would be appreciated. Total new experience for me.
I have cm7 stable on sd of my nook color. I have everything up and running great. trying to overclock and when I take my sd card out of nook and put into laptop, it asks me to format it. It is not allowing me to copy the kernal to my sd card. Is there another way of doing this?
While inserted in my laptop, I look at the properties of the sd card and it is showing to be in raw format.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Are you unmounting the SD card before you eject it? Also, are you sure the FS on your SD is FAT32?
When I originally formatted the card before I burned the installer and the cm file on the card it was formatted to a fat16.
I have not unmounted the card prior to ejecting. I will give that a try.
okay I unmounted before ejecting... put into laptop and the laptop is still wanting to format the card.
when I look at the properties it says file system is raw, and storage space is 0mb.
Maybe your card reader couldn't read microSDHC card?
With CM7 running off a uSD which I am doing as well, some built in laptop readers will not read the uSD but it may be read with a USB reader. But, it will typically only read the 1st partition which is the Boot partition (unless you use a program to set the 4th partition as primary and active).
To access the 4th partition for storage, you can try to connect the Nook by USB cable to your computer and enable USB storage mode. That should connect you to the 4th partition and your internal mmc storage partition too.
If not, download and use the following app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952456
The app is a little deceiving, you have to scroll in the app to see the "Confirm" button when you are mounting, and unmounting.
Thank you!!! I'm going to try that tomorrow.
If you still have stock on eMMC, boot with the card out, then insert it before the stock OS fully loads (like on "n" or "Nook Color" splash screens). The NC will mount the boot partition as storage; there should be an SD-icon notification in the lower left, and if you tap it, it should say "SD card inserted." You can then connect via USB, and hopefully your card and PC will kiss and make up.
ETA: I've had no luck inserting the card after the OS is fully loaded--it just reads "SD safe to remove."
That worked!!! Thank you very much!!!

[Q] Rooting without internal SD

Hi,
I got a Galaxy Y from a friend and I was trying to MOD it. I discovered that the internal SD is not available... and no way to get it back. I tried to wipe data, hard reset, stock firmware upload with ODIN but no way to get the internal SD back. I tried ADB in order to try to push the ZIP files in a ROM folder but of course no permissions as it's not rooted.
So, no way to root my mobile without copying the files to the SD?
Thanks in advance
Joe
I dont know what you mean by internal sd - galaxy y 5360/6102 doesnt have internal sd - it uses a mico sd card to which you will find the slot if you take the cover off and look on the right hand side of the phone
place any files you want on the sd card either via card reader or usb cable
please note that questions should be asked in the question and answer section and NOT the general section

Thanks Marcus,
I did not know the mobile had no internal SD.
That's the kind of information that saves a lots of time and work!
Thanks again.

Ok,
I tried to use a Miscro SD on the GT-S5360 but there was no way to have it acccepted by the phone.
I formatted the Micro SD (Sandisk 2G) in many ways (full formatting) and it was mounted OK with all my other phones (Galaxy S, LG L5II, Huawei) but not for the Galaxy Y. I tried to format the card with the other Samsung too but it did not work..
I've read a lot around about the "blank SD" issue on many mobiles and tried some of the suggested tricks but with no luck.
So, assuming there is no way to have a MicroSD installed on the phone, I resume the original question:
- Is there any way to root the GT-S5630 without an SD card?
Thanks in advance
Joe
well unless your sd card slot is damaged there should be no reason why it shouldnt work
the sd card needs to be formatted in fat32
there best way to do it is to inset your sd card into your phone
goto phone settings
storage
unmount sd card (sd must be unmounted before you can format it)
format sd card
you can also format it via your pc using a card reader as long as its fat32 but its best to format it using the phone or format it again using the phone as sometimes cwm may have problems mounting the sd card if you use something else to format it
You might find universal root tools via google but the quickest most simple way is just to use a root zip file and flash it in recovery or cwm

Thanks Marcus, your replies are very quick .
I tried formatting the SD card FAT32 with different Allocation unit sizes, always full formatting, never quick.
The SD card is recognized as BLANK SD CARD (or unsupported filesystem) when inserted with the phone ON. The same occurs when I switch ON the phone with the SD card alredy inserted. The card is never mounted
The internal formatting functionality of the phone seems to be not working at all. The function FORMAT SD CARD is enabled but when launched it lasts just few seconds and nothing happens (the card is not mounted neither automatically nor by hand).
There could be some compatibility issues between the card and the phone and it could be worth to buy another SD to test the phone card reader again, but I'm not confident it will work.
Phone specs
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband: S5360XXMC2
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXMI1
Thanks again

allocation unit size is I think 16 kilobytes but just select default - quick format is fine if the card is not damaged
you can try using mini tool to delete the partition on the sd card and create a new one and format it to fat32
you can then try reformatting it on your phone after
Mini Tool Download

Thanks for your help Marcus,
I tried MiniTool, with both FAT and FAT32 (the card is a 2GB card) but the result is still the same: BLANK SD CARD.
I will try to buy a new one tomorrow and see if it makes any difference...
Thanks again

Ok I got a new MicroSD today and everything seems to work fine.
Thanks again Marcus.

Micro SD Card formatting issue

Hi,
I want to format a micro sd card initially formatted with the and used on my Axon 7. Using the smartphone "application", the sd card disappears when it reaches the 20%. If I try to remove the sd from the smartphone and format with my computer (I try with gparted on ubuntu and with build-in + EaseUs window applications), my computer returns an error (impossible to complete the operation, etc.).
Anyway, the micro SD works correctly. I can read, write, and delete files on it without any problem.
Did the same thing happen to you too? Have you a solution?

You sure you can write to all of it? SD cards become read-only after a bunch of write ops. Hapoened to me on 2 SD cards already. When you try to format it, it'll just return an error or stall somewhere
