Need advice, considering to buy a Note 10.1 - Galaxy Note 10.1 General

Hi! I'm about to buy a tablet next week. It's partly for my personal use, but also for educational use for my daughter (18 months now) and general use for my wife.
I've narrowed my choices down to this one and iPad 3.. I already own a Galaxy S2 and a Nexus S, and enjoy Android a lot, but what my concern is, and my reason for considering the iPad 3 is that I'm not sure how good the app market is for tablets.. I've never had a chance to play with one except from in the store, and they dont have it enabled for accessing the Play Store..
Hardware-wise, although the iPad has a better screen, I find the Note to be more impressive.. And the 4:3 format on the iPad is not very appealing to me.. The extra resolution on the iPad might make it great for e-books, but watching a movie or playing with apps might not make much of a difference between the two.. the movies will be limited to 720p anyway as it's more than good enough on a 10 inch screen.. I'm not big on e-books so I will probably never read a book on it.
Software-wise, I hate iTunes so obviously the Note has the advantage here as it doesnt require any software on the computer.. I'm not gonna enter into an iOS vs Android discussion here, so lets just conclude that both iOS and Android are good OS's that are capable of doing what I require from them.
And then finally we come to the point where I'm stuck and makes it hard to choose: APPS..
How good is the app-market on android for tablets? which has the best app market for tablets? The iPad or the Note?
Is there any good educational apps for kids available on Play Store? Does any of these make use of the S Pen?
Does the S Pen have any good apps available in the Play Store, on top of the ones that come preloaded on the Note?
Hope to get some objective replies here.. I'm asking here and not on a Apple-forum as the iSheeps would automatically just say iPad, even if the Note could get you a cup of coffee and read you next weeks lottery numbers......

The tablet apps on Android are sufficient enough. There's just about an android equivalent or better for most IOS apps. There are tons of educational apps for Android. Best thing is most of them are free. Or at least have free versions for you to try out. There are some educational apps that make use of S pen. But I would let your child(18 months) grasp using finger for tablet use before S pen. I have a 2yrs.old. she just wants to grab the pen and smash it into the screen...lol. they are to young, IMO, to realize how to be gentle with pen and tablet use. These tablets can be great educational tools though.
There are alot more apps than what comes pre-installed that make use of the S Pen. There's a preloaded app called S suggest I believe, that you can see alot of those apps in one place. S PEN APPS THAT IS.
Since you already accustomed to Android, go for t eNlte 10.1. Its an excellent tablet experience out the box. Plus it does way more than we're discussing. Ex, universal remote(IR blaster built in), watching movies, drawing, photo editing, writing notes, stories, brainstorming, gaming, productive things, etc.. I briefly thought about getting an ipad3 at first, then I remembered how locked down it was and how boring using it was. I grew tired of the OS. All I did was jailbreak and mod it like crazy to be as close to android experience as I could get.
I recommend the Note 10.1 over ipad3 anyday.

Nice to see all the x factor judges using our little baby ! Should help sammy shift some more units.

I'm also looking to buy soon. Does anyone think that the price will drop soon? Like around Black Friday? Should I wait it out, or is it too new to drop in price that quick?

Samsung controls the pricing through authorized resellers. And the cost to authorized resellers is pretty high compared to other manufacturers so non-authorized resellers are kind of hamstrung by what it costs them to by product from those who are authorized. Typically you'll see value- adds like bonus accessories and in-store credit. Fry's is/was running "$100 in-store credit" with purchase. If there's going to be Black Friday door busters I'd expect to see them on 7" tablets and those by Acer, Asus and Lenovo. Those brands were last year’s door busters. Not that there may not be "deals" of some kind on the Note but you'll be looking at $100 off potentially not half price.

Hi, I've been reading note 10.1 forums over a month even though I'm not lucky enough to own one yet. I'm not gonna question you're knowledge and awareness of these forums contents since I can see that you (mitchellvii) are a lot more active in here than I am, but yet I'd like you to point a thread that is about what applications is there available on google play store that are fun and educational apps for children less than 2 years old. I've not found one. Yet there might be one of course but you said that this particular question has been asked extensively, which is a synonym to a phrase such as "many times" and "over and over again".
I agree that these forums share so much information that half of these questions asked here could've been avoided by reading a few pages, but I think that when you search these threads in your time of boredom or your interest - which is exactly what I do - you should read what it's about instead of only reading it's title which seems similar to those 10 other threads where you just adviced people about not to ask those same questions "extensively". And maybe, just maybe then give your "constructive" answer.
I think that this guy here asked a very good question concerning what use note 10.1 could have to children, even though I'm only 19 years old and don't have any little boys or girls.
Please don't hate me because of this post, I just expressed my opinion on this matter and I might be wrong. I just think that people asking polite and appropriate questions should be treated the same way if the exact questions hasn't been answered yet, shouldn't they?
I think my point here is quite good and it emphasizes good team spirit. But maybe it's just me. Is it? (((see I'm sad and hopeless and yet I have some sort or HOPE that I'm not alone when I think that internet forums shouldn't be a place where people say inappropriate and rude things just because they don't need to say it face to face cos it's easier to say those in here.)))

Yes that's something to look for but can it be found here in xda galaxy note 10.1 forums? What I was wondering was if this questions has asked in here before. I don't know if you got this link from xda note 10.1 forums since I obviously didn't read them all before posting my opinion. But if a person comes on note 10.1 forum and asks a question that's not been asked and answered here, we should give him the answer if we have one and we should NOT expect him to google it if the questions is as ungooglable as this one is. Xda is about helping, not about "you can't ask that and if you ask you won't get an answer because someone asked something like that a month ago so you should already have an answer because someone gave it to someone on some thread some time ago". Right? We can't escape the fact that there will be "help me! Should i get ipad or note i don't know and i'm dying"- threads every god damn day but this one is not a thread like that. This one has a particular point focusing on children and I think it's a great perpective. And I do feel sorry now for the creator of this thread cos I just filled the first page with my thoughts sorry about that but I just thought it needed to be said somewhere.

What you're looking for doesn't exist. But after you've done the research it would be great if you could post your results to help others in the future.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying? I'm not looking for anything. In my first post I replied to mitchellvii that he's not actually helping anyone which should be the point in here. If you read my posts I think you'll see I don't currently need any help and I'm not looking for anything. Excuse me if I didn't catch your point on your last post but please explain me if you think I missed something which is quite possible since english is not my best language.

Typically forums like XDA are very general. What you're asking about is very specific. Also, at least in my time here, there hasn't been a lot of focus on mobile devices being used by children. So if you're looking for information I don't think you'll find anything specifc enough to meet your needs. If you're asking if there's a need I'd say yes, but it would be of interest to a small subset of the community. Hope that helps.

Oh and I wasn't looking for a thread concerning this matter cos I thought from the beginning that it doesn't exist, so I asked mitchellvii to point one which he obviously hasn't been able to do yet. My purpose was to tell someone who just replied to a unigue question - "there is plenty of other questions like this one." - to go find another one if there's so many of them. Okay?

I know where Mitch was coming from. Just today there were three threads started besides your all asking "should I buy a Note?" That in addition to others that were already open. His answer assumed yours was a question already asked but yours was specifc to children. Nobody should be offended. Hopefully you'll get the Note and someday have children you can hand it down to.

First of all you need to chill out. As Barry said we get 2 or 3 these "Why should I buy this tablet?" threads each day.
The OP didn't mention his interest in educational apps until about the 8th paragraph down. 90% of his question has been asked and answered hundreds of times. Thus it is pretty clear to me the OP did not spend 10 seconds searching for an answer prior to asking, otherwise he would have just asked about educational apps without the rest.
Read then ask.

Well, I think I made a better thread by describing my situation, rather than simply starting a thread with: "Are there any educational apps for this thing?"
You say: read, then ask
I say: Read the whole initial post before answering, not just the first line.
And for the record, I have been searching and reading a lot before posting here, but didn't really find any clear and good information regarding my question..
Anyway, none the less, I got some good answers here and the link that was posted was very helpful.. It really makes it easier to decide, and I'm 90% sure that I will go for the Note.. Thanks!

So would you suggest buying at a certain location in case the price drops? Is Amazon a good choice for purchasing this? I get 5% cash back if I buy with my Discover card starting Monday (online purchases). I hear Best Buy is good too for their return policy. I've always loved Amazon for no-hassle returns though. Any advice?

I think the lowest price last year for the OG G-Tab 10.1 over Black Friday was $349 vs. $499 retail. I wouldn't expect any better on the Note. But hey, these are crazy times so who knows what retailers will do to bring people in this year. Price protection's usually 30 days so you'd have to wait until the end of October to have the reseller match any holiday discounts. If you know anyone that's a Best Buy Silver Rewards member I think they get 60 days price protection.

I am definitely sending my tablet back - no refund

Hi all!
I experienced a couple of issues with my tablet, but nothing crazy as far as now. I was still considering an exchange instead of a refund.
I have a faulty jack port, bad speakers balanced (corrected after root), and like every body else, bad battery monitoring with the dock losing charge while doing nothing. Some light bleeding, but minor and I didn't really cared. Oh and also, bad LED lights behaviour on the dock, which may be corrected with a dock firmware update, or not.
Anyway, the even worst surprised today is that my power adapter is dead. This is too much for me. I am really disappointed by Asus quality. Honestly, I can deal with some software issues, I can admit that such a complicated design like a tablet may lead to a faulty jack port (and even that...) but, really, a wrong design in the power adapter TOO ? How such a common and basic thing can go wrong ? And it is not like I have done something crazy with it, just plug it on the main to charge the dock/tablet and that's it. After 2 weeks, dead.
Asus, maybe you should reconsider some bits of you engineering process and especially the quality checks parts.
So my decision is taken, I will send it back and that's it. No more TF101 for me. I may wait for the next generation (October ?) hoping that the first generation was a test but maybe not. I will see. I liked the tablet.
We are not talking about a $1 toy and I clearly expected another quality paramount.
This is sad, when it works properly the tablet is good for the use I am looking at and the keyboard with extended battery is simply smart and useful. When you can charge it...
Get ready for the crazy fanboys to troll your thread with messages like "Mine is fine so you must be imagining it" or "You're in the minority" and then finish it up by calling you a troll.
You listed some issues that I forgot about. You're lucky you're taking the easy way out. TD doesn't allow refunds so I was forced to send it in to Asus on my dime. Counting all of the issues this device is plagued with will run you >$100.00 in postage alone to send this POS back.
Now I hear the B6O revision is better and it makes one feel like ****. B6O should have been what the device should have started with. They ripped everyone off.

I think that I was part of the fanboys when I firstly received my tablet/dock. But each day was a new bad surprise.
On the good side, amazon does a very great job. They pay back everything : product+shipping costs+cost to ship back and insure it. We cannot expect better that having a product we don't want to send back.
fanboys are an unfortunate part of forum life. if you think they're bad here head over to the archos forums. you cant say one bad thinb wighout someone telling you it's your fault and that your expectations are too high. i rma'd my archos 4 time befor giving up and getting transformer. While i love my tf, i did exchange my first one for light bleed and dead pixel. current one is not perfect, but well within my tolerance level compared with my archos.
i think qc is a problem across the tablet spectrum right now. for the price i do think the tf is the best deal going.
that said ignore the fanfoys and do what in righg for you. the acer is not as nice and a little heavier, but has better build quality for the price.
How do you tell what revision you have? Is it printed on the exterior of the tablet? Ie, can I check something like that while I'm in the store easily?

Funny, I seriously considered the iconia before getting the TF, just knew that I could not live with the screen as I often work with my tablet in direct sunlight and there is quite a difference between the iconia and say the TF or galaxy tab 10.1.
Sorry you had many issues with your machine.....for what its worth, I've boughtAsus products for 15 years and they are usually good quality, but every manufacturer has issues here and there. Hope it works out for you :-D

no anyone who pops into every topic that is discussing an issue just to tell everyone that either the problem doesn't really exist or you should have researched more, or what do you expect for the $, is a fanboy. also they tend to reply to posts asking about quality with comments like.."there are almost no issues, ignore what you read about issues, only the few with issues actually post, so they look more common than they are".

The serial number is on the bottom edge of the tablet, near the charging port. It's also on the back of the box, along with other info and some barcodes.

Yeah, this would be funny if you weren't unintentionally acting like a dumb ass to try to gain some clout.
It's actually anyone satisfied with their purchase but believes that the existence of someone who is unsatisfied with their purchase due to massive issues is about as likely as a unicorn or a leprechaun and his pot of gold.
You wouldn't happen to fit that description would you?

Yep ... sums up my sentiments too.
Not a fanboy. I have a couple of small issues with my unit but, to be honest, i have similar issues with laptops, tvs, cameras, phones also. Problem is with sites like this you often start to notice things that the average Joe wouldnt even spot.
What Im getting fed up with is posts telling us that people are returning their units ...
Check out the Apple forums, or the Xoom forums, or the Samsung forums. EVERY item has faults. Maybe technology is moving too fast for production quality to keep up ? who knows ???
Ive found XDA great over the years, and the forums are very helpful. The problem these days is that the forums are getting clogged with people who seem to think everyone is interested to know that they are returning their unit ?? why do we need to know ??? utterly pointless and just a product of the Facebook era probably ....
Seriously ... if you have a question... use XDA. If you have an issue ... use XDA. If you just want to tell us whats going on in your life PLEASE use facebook.
There are lots of people who want help and want support - or people who genuinely have hints and tips. Problem is you cant see their posts as they get lost amongst all the other drivvle people post.
Hopefully you will find a unit that suits you but I assure you that every unit is prone to problems. Show me a forum for any item of any make or model where nobody has found a fault or ptoblem and ill eat my hat.
Also, let's cut this hypocritical nonsense out. If someone posted a thread about how much they loved the TF none of you would be raging over it. But when someone posts a thread about giving up on the TF you're all raging over it and how inappropriate it is.
The statement that these kinds of non-technical posts don't belong on here is laughable when you consider the double standard. If there are going to be threads for people who are throwing themselves all over the TF, there are going to be threads for people to explain their displeasure. Anything else is one sided and biased.
Of course you'd go for that if you were so insecure you couldn't handle someone reading something negative about the TF.
Tubular said:
Also, let's cut this hypocritical nonsense out. If someone posted a thread about how much they loved the TF none of you would be raging over it. But when someone posts a thread about giving up on the TF you're all raging over it and how inappropriate it is.
The statement that these kinds of non-technical posts don't belong on here is laughable when you consider the double standard. If there are going to be threads for people who are throwing themselves all over the TF, there are going to be threads for people to explain their displeasure. Anything else is one sided and biased.

Im not insecure. far from it.
No problem reading negative stuff. If you check my posts ive had problems.
BUT
We dont need a thread from EVERY person who decides to leave. If you really think that the General forum needs a new thread from every person who has decided to return their TF then you are either very stupid or a genuine Troll.

The number of people who have left is far greater than the number of people who have made threads. I've been watching this forum for a while and I can tell you right now that the number of "I'm leaving" threads that have sprouted are far too little to warrant your kind of response.
You act as if there are twenty per day, all clogging up the main page. This is certainly not the case. This is not a major epidemic.
To think two different people can't make a thread on their experience and why they're leaving is absurd. This isn't four threads discussing the same tip on how to reset the the device. Each story is unique and therefore a separate point of discussion.

more than happy for everyone to post their 'unique' experiences ... in one single thread !!!
Then all those who want to share know exactly where they can find them !!
Everyone else can see 'the wood for the trees' .....
The easiest way is to look for the black sealing tape on both sides of the box. The B60K,newer version, will have black instead of green tape.
The problem that I have is that there are bizzilion threads on here with people *****ing that there Trasformer is a piece of crap. Everytime someone wants to complain they start a new thread which is getting a little out of control.
I have complaits about the Transformer but I did my research first. I knew there were problems with it just like any new product.

Apparently this is lost on the fanboys.

Does the galaxy tab have...

Does this forum have a sleepless ninja?
Let me explain: I am currently looking to buy a tablet for college and I am looking to get the most out of my tablet for my studies, for enjoyment and for understanding in this technological realm. Now, to me it is between the Xoom and the Galaxy Tab 10.1, and all signs point to the tab. Better screen, lighter, thinner, newer, faster etc. etc. (even the disadvantages, HDMI/USB/SD Card don't bother me as I don't really use any of that) But the Xoom has that one intangible, sleepless ninja. He shows xoom owners how to do this, how to do that and I just think the advantage of having a walk through is so high on my list that it might out weight a lot of the advantages the Tab has. Its this guy that is keeping me drawn to the Xoom, so I ask you either A) Does this forum/ community have a dedicated man like this? or B) Does anyone know if one is coming or if I did decide to get a tab would one be liked?
Yes it is a noob-friendly thing but, we were all noobs once right?
At the moment the GT10.1 is running stock version of Honeycomb, stock being the "pure" OS form no 2nd company has added anything or altered the software, this is important to know. This being said the stock version does not have "guides" or a "sleepless ninja", it will however guide you through the initial process of signing in to your accounts like Google or push email accounts.
With this being addressed Samsung does have a "layer" that goes over the "stock" Android OS and this is called Touchwiz. Samsung has not implemented this yet for their own reasons but has recently announced that it is coming "soon" as a download update. This Touchwiz may have your "secret ninjas". Touchwiz being their own creation may have "ninjas" to help explain and show all the new "bells" and "whistles" and abilities that Touchwiz will be able to do. Unfortunately like I said before Samsung has announced that is will be coming soon so till then it is the stock non "ninja" OS.
On a personal note I find the stock Honeycomb Android very intuitive and practical.( so much so that I cannot wait for the Touchwiz version ) Also I find the exploration to be half the fun Also there are TONS of websites that help you discover anything you need to know about Android on the webz and of course here in XDA. Although many do get a bit .....annoyed....some times with repeat questions someone will most usually scrape some patience and help you out, I will say to use the search option most generously though I have had my GT10.1 for over a week now and love it I am by no means a wiz but thanks to many here I am "Sleepless Ninja" free! Good luck with your choice and have fun learning.

I do agree that the search feature needs to be used and I did. Now, I thank you for your response BUT if you had read my post you might have seen the link to sleepless ninjas website. Sleepless Ninja is a real physical person, sleeplessninja.com. The Xoom doesn't have a "sleepless ninja" embedded either, what it has is a man dedicated to trying to help out the community, with tutorials, video how-tos and so on. I was wondering if the Tab community has that same type of person or group of people who go out of their way to help the community. I am a visual learner and so videos are something I enjoy seeing as I think they help. If this is what someone here has I would love to see it.

I don't really see the point of this "real physical person" online. We have tons of threads dedicated to helping newbie and seriously though, most of what's applied to the XOOM will also work on the Tab as they both run stock-enough HC.
But if you can't be bothered to do a little googling/searching, maybe the XOOM and sleeplessninja are best for you.

More than anything else it is the videos that I like. I remember and understand things when I see them performed and videos to me give me that edge to be confident and know enough about what I am doing to actually jump for it.
Now,that being said the preponderance of threads, guides, walkthtoughs and the like here leaves little to be desired but curiosity did get me and, for the most part, the helpful nature of the people in this forum has shined through.
@OP
If you're buying a tab based on the degree of handholding available, the iPad is the best bet currently. Ideology aside, it has the best ecosystem, the best stable of apps, and the best peer-support, if based on size of userbase alone.
I understand, though, that ideology, or at least philosophical outlook, is pretty important. It's why XDA exists, after all, else we'd all be nibbling at S. Job's toes by now.
Then, on the issue of "durability" of peer support, none of the current Android (or RIM, or TouchPad) is a good buy. Reason is that part of the first wave of 'droid tabs have yet to show. And after that, there'll be yet a second wave of tabs before the year is out (hopefully outfitted with ICS). In short, there will be a deluge of tabs, each of which will have its little pool of users, and all of which will have very short lives. Does not bode well for that elusive "Sleepless Ninja" to pop into existence.
These, as compared to one big homogenous iPad collective. If your field is statistics, there's no contest.
But perhaps you favor fictional literature, where we can be the few Merry Men against the iHorde innumerable. Oops, getting my 'phores mixed with my phives here.. Anyway, there is an advantage to be a big frog in a small pond. Indeed, it can be YOU in that most epic '84 Apple commercial, taking a mighty swing against the faceless collective!
Yes, I hear you say, "Let me be the one, the Sleepless Ninja, the Hammer of Justice!" And I say, go forth, and make your mark! And we all say, yay, for our Sleepless Ninja is nigh!
Cheers for the OP, our new Sleepless Ninja! Here's a Thank to get you on your way. Now, get the hell to work, and let me know pronto when that custom ROM is done!

What's wrong with XDA?

When I first came to this forum, I was admittedly lost and confused.
I had my Samsung Vibrant for a very short time, and it was giving me non-stop problems; It was nothing; but a headache. I bought the phone believing some of the hyperbole that surrounded it. My previous Samsung (Dumbphone) had worked beautifully for a year until it's touchscreen died. Considering the fact that it featured a "resistive" touchscreen, and factoring in normal wear from daily use. I just couldn't be mad about it. It served it's purpose. This was my reason for purchasing the Samsung Vibrant. I was ready to buy a much better device with a better touchscreen; I had done my homework on Android, and was waiting for the right time to purchase an Android device.
I didn't want the Behold 2; I checked it out, and after handling a live model at the store, it felt cheap and I was a little surprised by that; because the Behold 1 was literally made with REAL Metal etc.
I visited this site, and realized that I could ACTUALLY replace the inoperable ROM
that was leaving my Samsung Vibrant non-functional
I posted my issues looking for answers and was instead attacked vigilantly by developers and other members here
This was the exact opposite of what I was expecting.
I've noticed that Developers here frequently bully other users here, and they have friends who use rogue tactics which cause the developers to close ANY thread which openly criticizes Samsung or T-Mobile in a negative way.
Recently we found out that the creator of the Cyanogen mod was just hired by Samsung!
Based on the response even to the most subtle of my issues
I have had nothing but suspicion since the beginning.
I have been wondering who your company holds in the best interest
Is it the people?
Yourselves?
Or the corporations you seek jobs (and/or) sponsorships from or look to gain sponsorship from?
All I can say is that when your site claims it is for the developers you leave some important things out of the equation.
This site is frequented by regular people who do not have the money or time to go and buy ten different phones to play with.
Some of us don;t have the time to sit there for hours and work on code
There are REGULAR people who are members of this site
they have issues like me, and we do not act like we know everything
we are not selfish and narcissistic.
You have never considered as as a factor
were sick of the bullying and favoritism
and I was the first to fight back
I am asking
What's wrong with XDA?
It's not you, It's me.
The best advice to any new user that I can give is to sit, watch, and read. If you come in your first day and post a question that gets asked on a weekly basis you will be flamed. If you have a reasonable level of tech savy, and watch and read the forums for two weeks or so 90% of your questions will be answered and almost all of those that aren't can be found easily by searching (the xda search function sucks imo but a Google search returns xda pages easily).

Lol Your post really touched me because that's how life and the real world is. Not so much on XDA. If you at least read the first full post and the last page of the thread you will know about any bugs/fixes and won't be flamed for asking the same question. I know it's kind of intimidating when people who build the ROMS tell you your wrong about something and openly express displeasure about having to answer the same question over and over. But you also have to keep in mind that this is an open community and anywhere you go in life or the internet there will be assholes and trolls but 99 percent of the members of this forum are cool people who can relate to not being able to afford 3 phones. Lighten up bud. If you have at least the slightest knowledge about technology and problem solving. You should be just fine. BTW most trolls have 0-25 posts and 0-3 thanks and are juniour members. Just something I thought I'd share.
It be like dat

oh, and to answer your question, it sounds like you are the problem with xda. i've never had a problem. i've never blamed samsung or tmob for me purchasing the vibrant (and i love my vibrant), i don't demand or expect anything from the devs, i just appreciate what they do for us and try and help others when i can.
It's about respect bro.
I've only been flashing for a couple months but i was lurking for a month before I posted.
I read, learned, and then asked. I got flamed sure, but now I try to help other users with their repeat questions so the devs don't have to.
Anyway... your post is probably going to fall on deaf ears.
You do not complain ON the site you're complaining ABOUT.
You're wasting your time and venting to the community you're venting about.
Pretty much making people mad at you is all you did
Sorry man.
Vibrant+MIUI
I've been here a while. I just lurk so I don't have to deal with assholes. I also read and use the search to avoid asking questions. 98% of the time my questions have already been asked and I find the answer myself.
Hey MicBeast, how did that class action law suit go for you? Make any more songs about it?
Its funny how you sound self righteous here, when I remember a much different person starting a lot of drama when I first saw your name popping up around here, a simple search and anyone can read that whole soap opera.

MicBeast, I just skimmed your 125 posts.
I will not say much, but maybe you should really think about what's wrong with xda... Keeping in mind that xda is a place for developing predominantly.
I've never had this kind of experience personally, and I actively discourage it in my thread. My thread its full of helpful nice posts and great individuals. I don't do this for any reason but the love of doing so, and never plan on doing it any other way. Its rude, insulting, and wrong to generalize anyone, you have only interacted with a fraction of the people on here. Once you have spoken with EVERY person, then you can make a statement, for now, please refrain from these gross generalizations.....

I thought you have an Iphone now? So why are you lurking on these forums still?
You have nothing better to do than to waste your time harassing people you don't know on the internet?
If I remember correctly, I've seen YOU bullying quite a few different members. Causing much more drama than any developer I've ever seen.
XDA is for developers to share and "develop" their work, share ideas, etc... They don't necessarily have to be every newbie's personal tech support agent. They can help who they want on their own free will... And if they don't feel like being nice, or get fed up with the same questions asked over and over again, then by all means let them. No one is paying them, and they certainly aren't bound by any contracts.
This isn't a service, there's no 1800 number to call and complain to. It's a public forum, so deal with it. Take some time and appreciate the information that this forum is bulging at the seams with, for free, for anyone to learn.
I just looked at ur post an yea u are what is wrong with xda u go around an complain about how things aren't working troubleshoot it ur self an what about that iPhone which is "better" than android go to whatever fourm they have an just go away :-/

Ok..here we go:
The name of the site should be a clear shot of what this site is all about, XDADEVELOPERS.COM.
Secondly...what's "wrong" with this site is the same as any other site...some members, either old or new, that think that they opinion is more valuable than other and for that they tend to bully themselves around
Third...why even start a thread about this topic when you clearly know the reaction it's going to cause...in my book that is considered a type of trolling and even though I'm up for trolling the OT fora every now and then, do not agree with threads that will stir up the pot (if you know what I'm mean )
Hence, thread closed.
Best regards with your future endeavors mate...come back and visit

There's been more development on it than any other smartwatch to date, and surely for a much much longer period of time (2+ years anyone?). I'm not certain why it doesn't yet. It has the most threads in the smartwatch area, also. Seriously, XDA. Come on.
ClearD has been supporting the MotoACTV for forever. I really has surprised me that xda admins haven't created a dedicated forum for it. Rather disappointing really... Haha, how did we manage to live off one gigantic thread? Lot's of reading and missed replies.
Yes, please create motoactv forum. I wish the admins could see my puppy dog eyes right [email protected][email protected]
Compared to the current crop of smartwatches, the motoactv still holds its own and there isn't one that I've seen to make me give mine up yet. These threads have helped me get the most of this great little watch. This device has a good group of supporters and deserves it's own forum.
So far motoactv is number one. Rooted all the apps I want thanks moto and most of all the way devs who always and really all ways come thru like gods for me

For a device that came out in 2011 the Motoactv does more than hold its own. With that said if we were to get a forum it would have probably happened already.
The MotoActv is a great watch, only thing that stopped me from purchasing was the lack of vibration.

I definitely agree it needs its own forum. I just recently bought one of my own and I absolutely love it, and I haven't even rooted it yet. I've been looking at the development that has been going on with it and I do want to root it, but hate bouncing around the entire SmartWatches forum to find the information I'm looking for. It would be soooo much easier if it was all condensed into one forum. Hopefully, someone will make it so.

I use the Augmented Smartwatch app with my MotoACTV and I have it set so my phone vibrates when it sends a notification to my phone so it eliminates the need for a vibration function on the watch for me.
I kinda like the fact that it is the black sheep of the watch forum. It makes it more of a private club of enthusiasts. Since knowing how to root it is the only way to really make it a super watch, thats your entry ticket. Much cooler then just plunking down money at a box store and then expecting everyone to do the work for you without a little contribution.
Got mine in early 2012 and still use it daily. It's been a great watch. It troops through all the abuse (it's a watch and I treat it so). Yet still, almost two years later, people are surprised at what it can do.
This thing owes me nothing. My $230 is more than paid for in enjoyment.
The lack of it's own forum does suck. XDA did their vote thing a few fort nights ago and it didn't get enough votes, so here it stands. I don't think it's gonna happen unfortunately.
That is unless XDA plans to entirely revamp the smartwatch section as the sector grows...
I happen to have a server and forum laying around unused. It's obviously NOT XDA but it's available. Would take a commitment from some to help make it happen.

As much as I love the MotoActv (Wearing my rooted on right now), I plan on dropping it. The TrueSmart is SO hard to resist. I have had my for a year and a half, and the wrist strap is falling apart.
The MotoActv is discontinued. I don't think XDA would make a forum for a watch that isn't being made anymore. Anyone know where I can buy a new strap? Amazon isn't pulling any that are still in stock

[Q] Knox - Root - Hide-Root - Swapping Internal-external SD - keep LearningVideo-HUB

Have this question also for Note 10.1 2014
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2576464
The important part starts at point 4
1. The inevitable rant:
- If it wasn´t for the Stylus I would go for the Ipad Air... Why? 32GB only - No 64 or 128 available for me - and no way to move 90% of Games and big to SD without root.
- graphics for example RealRacing3 - Graphics on Note 10.1 LTE 2014 very bad compared to ipad4 Don't get me wrong, compared with other games graphics rock... But compared to an Ipad4 they just suck.
Have both - and best comparison you get in the car selection menu. On the ipad4 I can read even the printing on the trucks in the back... on it's just a blurry paste.
- KNOX
2. Please DON´T bother to write here, if your post is plain stupid - sorry to be offensive - Android/This and other android related forums were once great, until it became big and for the masses - so it had to be dumbed down to a level where we are now with no end in sight
- If you dont know what I mean then dont post, you are one of them.
Examples:
-- Samsungs remote deactivation as theft protection sure won't be supported much longer, because dumb user support is costing carriers too much money.
-- 2 SD is not working as it should be because for dumb users it createt to much trouble so now we have the f*****g internal eMMC posing as EXTERNAL SD
-- permissions - soon we will have no way to change them and shut down spying features of - for example torchlight needing full internet access and contacts - thanks to dumb users
3. I know this is a dilemma - this forum should be for all users - old ones and newcommers - It helped me a lot to enjoy and use and get so sad to see the downfall
but soemwhere should be a line and this was crossed with a long time ago
-- All hopes are now with UBUNTU which should work on Note3 and Note 10.1 2014 - comming middle to end 2014
-- Hopes of what: Not being for dumb people
I have no clue about Linux/Ubuntu - same as I started with - but I learned/experimented/read - and I avoided stupid quesions and postings - looking at Linux / Ubuntu forums its still like heaven. Tons of stuff to read, forums are full intelligent questions and responses, because those people actually have an IQ above the average user now - who has to be able to register to a damn forum
4 What I actually wanted to know
Actually I have ignored now what I expect from others: read and inform more than a day before posting
But here we go:
- I want so swap external with internal SD (mostly for my games) have not found a to do this without root ( I know there isnt any )
+Is there a way without at least permanent root?
+How reliable are root-requiering options like: modyfying vold.fstab or Int2ext or others? - had sometimes trouble like dublicate files - folders - crashes after some time. Especially after reboots with those solutions on my Note 1
+What is the best root solution- maybe with hide root option (integrated or external)? so Samsung HUB (Video, Learning...) and mirroring stays usable?
But it has to work with an Internal - External SD swapping even if temporarily deactivated/hidden for the metioned Samsung stuff to work
+ Knox should / must be untouched
Um first our note 3 can save to Sd under application manager.
Second. Comparing ipad to android is like comparing apples to oranges and in my case the taste of an orange is better.
Both sides have their pros and cons but this android and the mighty note 3.
Real racing is your comparison too?
That may look on an ipad but nothing is better than a super omled screen.
Anyways if you don't like your note 10.1 2014 give it me

When I have time next week or the week after that I will try it myself

Yeah Apples to oranges. Also I can reply to any post or thread on here as in my right.
If you didn't want to hear about others opinions then open up s-note and make a note to one self and leave on your tablet. Or better yet make a thread on the ipad 4 forum
Wait there is none because they don't have one.
You complain about space yet this device can handle 64GB storage with apps to Sd support.
You complain about a piece of service through sammy which seems to be here for the long run. If you need more support to wipe a device or find its location then, the Google has a service too called device manager.
The note 3 has a much a higher dpi than any apple device too.
I think you should not place your complaints about a device that you clearly don't know enough about.
Instead you come here to talk crap about it hoping that some other ipad fan boy would agree with you.
Sorry I am not the one you hoped to hear from.
Since your not a mod you will have to see my posts on your thread too!!
Good luck

Sir... you are just intellectually incapable of understanding this tread... I am talking about software not hardware
Am am asking about a binding solution not some app to Sd bull**** - but apparantly you can´t grasp it so read and learn!
I have asked some simple questions... you cant answer so why are you bothering writing your bull**** here?
what this tread was for, were user experiences... what is working and what is not working... to save me time and others who want the same to read quickly through this thread what is possible and what not...
BUT it seems even this thread is becomming like every other one... everybody is writing some bull**** just for the sake of typing
IF someone comes here to write his/hers experience it maybe full of useless posts as 90% of this forum
Hard to find a solution even if searching hard...
pointless maybe for someone to answer because of all the pointless stuff alredy posted
I am asking about the best solution that is actually working without causing too many problems - There are multiple threads here with solutions
but
A not working with both
B user experiences are not good
C Could/Should be what I am looking for but no user experience posted because - forgotten about - thread title/tags not correct
FOR GODS SAKE:
if you have tried some of the stuff please post your experience

"ALL the others PLEASE GO AWAY"
Close the thread if you don't want replies (reported it for you to save your time) - anyone is free to reply with their opinion.
This doesn't seem to be a topic anyway and seems to be a mindless rant - and this isn't the place for such posts.

I have asked specific questions.
You cant answer to a this type of specific question with an opinion.
This is whats making this and most android forums useless... stupid posts...
Dont you get it, that posting useless stuff in threads makes it much harder for all?

First of all take a chill pill man.
Second there isn't available yet a swappable script for sd storage as there was with the s3 that I had.
Now since that answers your question.
Why not start a clean thread asking devs or others how to swap internal memory?
No you start by telling me that I am incapable of understanding what your talking about.
You start your thread with insults to our device and rant about issues that there are in plain view a system that can help.
You said there is no way to save apps to the sd but there is as I stated before.
Anyways forget it. good luck with your quest

Remove the rant and useless talk and people won't give you their opinion.
Here is your answer to your "questions"
*Knox shouldn't be touched:
Answer: You cannot do any of what you asked without root - which triggers knox with the latest firmwares.
Bye.

And on that note, thread closed before any more abuse gets thrown around.
