[Question] Data plan of Tmobile on Att's unlock phone? - Networking

Hi, i'm buying a Samsung galaxy s3, and i worry about bad ESN phone that i can't use on my tmobile account.
For that reason, i think i will pay for a s3 ATT ( if ATT s3 is a bad ESN phone than i still can unlock and use it with my tmobile account, right? )
But i hear someone said that if i use a unlock ATT phone then tmobile data plan won't work on that att phone. I don't know if this is correct information or not.
Can someone help me out?:crying::crying:
Thank you very much.
Also Is there anyone to avoid bad esn phone on craiglists?
Furthermore, is there anyone to buy a bad ESN Tmobile phone, and somehow i can use it with tmobile ?

well you're in the wrong section. you want to go to the s3 section for this.
but to my knowledge. at&t s3 is not compatible with tmobile's 4g. you'll get EDGE speed. but once tmobile has their LTE towers up and running it should work.... NEXT year lol
no you can't used a t-mobile blacklisted phone back on t-mobile.

First of all GSM networks (T-Mobile, AT&T) do not use ESN. Only CDMA networks (like Verizon, Sprint) use it. T-Mobile and AT&T use IMEI numbers.
Second of all, unless you live in an area that T-Mobile has begun to refarm their 1900 mHz band to HSPA+ you will only getEDGE speeds onT-Mobile with an AT&T phone.
If you are so worried about buying a T-Mobile phone with a blocked IMEI number, why not either wait until you have enough money to purchase it directly from T-Mobile or meet the person you're buying from at a T-Mobile store and have the IMEI checked before you buy?

Useing Wiza200 with cricket service provider

Hello to All,
I have a T-Moble MDA (wiza200). I've unlocked it and all is good. I have cricket service provider right now for 55 US a month, unlimited everything. However as many already know 95% of there phones suck, and all of there phones are WAYYYYY over priced. I wanted to know
Is there a way I could use my t-mobile phone with cricket service?
My first though was no due to the fact that cicket dosen't use a sim, t-moble dose.
I was talking to one of the tech's at cricet who deal with transfurring phones from one companie to there's (IE: Verizon to CricKeT). He told me that if I re-flash the phone with there rom then yes I can. I just can't seem to bring myself to give them 250 dollers for them to do that. Please if anyone could help that would be one of the best days for me .
Thanks a million!
No, you can't.
Tmobile uses GSM phones, Cricket uses CDMA. No go. You can only use Alltell CDMA or Verizon phones.

Trying to buy this hero on eBay butt have Q's help me please?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250671242249&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
This hero is the Telus Canadian version and if you read the descrip it says CDMA but everything else says GSM, so which is it? I want to use it on ATT
Since this is the telus canadian version would I be able to use it with ATT 3G on cheap 10/month medianet plan?
Hoping to get this phone soon with your guys help, thanks
That looks like a gsm hero. Looks just like mine which i use on at&t. Except since that one is telus, it is compatible with at&t 3g network. I have a malaysian hero so i can only use edge.

Do you have a internet plan? If so which one
Does att force you to have a pda plan?
I dont have a internet plan, too broke =(. at&t doesnt force me to get one because they dont know what phone i have. heros are not at&t branded so they dont have my imei number. if you have at&t branded phones like iphones they will force the data plan on you. but for our case we can decide for ourselves whether to have a data plan or not

Tmobile Version has AT&T LTE support, and unlocked bootloader?

So far it looks like the Tmobile S4 has LTE/HSPA+ support for AT&T, and no real signs of a locked bootloader. Anyone else plan on buying that version and unlocking it if the bootloader is in fact unlocked?
Does anyone know of any apps that would test the LTE/HSPA+ bands the phone is capable of? I want to go into a Tmobile and use a test unit to see if I can get service with my LTE AT&T SIM.
https://explore.t-mobile.com/samsung-galaxy-s4
Edit: Well, it looks like I'll be getting the Tmobile variant unsubsidized and use it on AT&T. Tmobile will unlock the phone if you pay the total cost up front. I just need to find a replacement back cover to rid myself of the stupid Tmobile logo on the back... lol.

If I had the money to buy the S4 outright for full price, I would just get an i9505.
EDIT: Spoke too soon. The i9505 doesn't support AT&T's LTE bands.
Can you post info on the source? I was also curious about this but i was thinking if we changed the radios like they did in the past that maybe we could get something working?

I put the info in the OP that I have so far; the LTE/3G radios are reported to support all of AT&T's bands. The bootloader, I'm going off of a guess since I don't think that Tmobile could afford to bribe Samsung to lock their bootloaders for them.
HMM, ok thanks for the info so far. I might have to go out and pick one up and test it.
Looks like the T-Mobile version has all the same bands and some extra ones added in. For instance the at&t only has lte bands 4&17. The tmobile version has LTE bands 1,2,4,5,7&17. Will T-Mobile unlock their phones for u??

I'm feeling like a newbie today cause I have my new T-Mobile Galaxy S4 in front of me & still playing with new features after 3 hours.
Tell me how to check to see if bootloader is unlocked and I'll do it.
Also trying to remember where we go to unlock the developer tools. Only remember that it must be clicked 7 times?
Just remembered, Settings.About Device>Build Number <Click Build Number 7 times, back out and Developer options magically appears.
Now i can go into it and toggle USB debugging. Now I only feel 95% newbie.

Has anybody tried their T-Mobile phone on AT&T yet?
If so, I have a couple of questions.
1. Can you use the T-Mobile phone to wireless tether (become a wifi hotspot) on AT&T's network? The AT&T version can be used to tether (with a simple hack). I was just wondering if a different .APK would be needed to do the same with the T-Mobile phone on AT&T's network or if the T-Mobile phone already has an APK installed that works on AT&T's network?
2. I realize an existing AT&T sim card can just simply be placed into the sim unlocked T-Mobile phone for it to work, but how would I go about changing the imei and other phone info that AT&T has in their system about the phone? In other words, would AT&T cause problems with anyone using a T-Mobile phone on their network even if the person paid full price for the phone and it is unlocked? Would it be better to have them change the system information at a store versus over the telephone?
3. It is reported that the T-Mobile phone works fine on AT&T's LTE network, has anyone verified this and does the phone show LTE when on AT&T's LTE network?
Thank you for any replies. Hopefully this information can help people decide if they want to buy the T-Mobile S4 to use on AT&T or not.

You can, for now, use PDAnet for tethering.
As far as changing the phone to appear as "unknown" to AT&T's system, don't do it without a backup of your /efs folder. I don't recommend doing it either because it's not really worth changing things around to hide that you're on a Tmobile phone, because for the most part, they don't care as long as you're paying them your monthly bill. I personally know a friend who has used her unlocked HTC Amaze on AT&T without issue (she was stuck to 2G speeds). The only way for you to have an "unknown" phone on your account is to use an international model phone such as the HTC one or the i9500 (unconfirmed that the i9300/i9500 model is entered into AT&T's system, I only hèard a rumour that AT&T has the IMEI of those phones in its system). My i9100 currently shows up as "unknown" in my bill statement.
I took a screenshot, but I don't have a link of the LTE working conformation (attached). I won't be getting my phone until I am on holiday in New Hampshire so that I can avoid the sales tax on purchasing the Tmobile variant. I would ask my parents to buy it for me, and I send them the money, but they have no technological skills whatsoëver close to asking/knowing what to ask for at the Tmobile store. Sorry guys, lol.
my t mobile m919 stock mdl rooted..tetheting works out of the box SN at&t and on their system it doesn't know what kind of phone I have...

[Q] Possible to Unlock?

Hi I wanted to buy this pone from amazon, but the thing is that I would buy the sprint versión with no contract and I don't live in the US, so my question is, can I unlock this pone to use it with any other company? like Movistar? I read that the pone was GSM so I thought it would be posible, however I won't take the risk of paying 590 dollars for a pone that I can't use, thanks

What do you mean if I dont know dont tell? What does that supposed to mean?
I KNOW my Cellular Networks!
Sprint is a CDMA Network!
The ONLY part about sprint that is NOT CDMA is LTE which the sim card slot is LOCKED to sprint.
They MIGHT be a fix but right now there is NOT. Some of the older phones like the Moto Photon its not LTE but its a world phone and people could flash a few things and make it work, But only EDGE in the USA anyway.
But as of right now and problay for a while its NOT going to work.

I expect Sprint will provide a method soon to unlock the GSM and UMTS functions in the phone to be able to use it internationally. However, I don't expect the GSM and UMTS functions to operate inside the US. Sprint has always disabld them on GSM capable Android and iOS devices it sells.
I don't see why it wouldn't work for you as long as you can get it unlocked.
Sprint is not going to unlock it for you unless you are a long time customer or have the phone with them for 90 days.
hyelton is completely wrong though.. the sim does authenticate lte on sprint but also acts as a gsm sim internationally.
you can also remove the sim and insert any international sim once unlocked providing the carrier uses the correct bands.

You are all kinds of WRONG.
Sprint's GS4 is fully capable of voice and data on international GSM/HSPA+/UMTS 850/900/1900/2100MHz networks. You have to request Sprint to unlock your phone's sim (or find a work around if you're not a Sprint customer), but once unlocked you can pop in any international sim and it will WORK JUST FINE on international GSM networks, they don't have to support LTE. Heck the only thing preventing the SG4 from working on US GSM networks is Sprint locked the Sim from using USofA GSM carrier sim cards.
As long as the OP can get their Sprint SG4 sim unlocked, they can pop in their international sim and use the GSM in their country NO PROBLEM like any other GSM phone.
SO ONCE AGAIN, Sprint's SG4 has a fully functioning GSM modem that supports international carrier GSM/HSPA+/UMTS 850/900/1900/2100MHz bands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You would think someone with almost 2,000 posts and who made a statement like "I KNOW my Cellular Networks!" would know better. Do yourself a huge favor and actually know what you're talking about before you go spouting off again, because you really made yourself look like an ignorant fool.

Well YES you can easily use your phone overseas, But it was POSTED in the Sprint Forum which is ONLY in the USA and in which using it does NOT apply in the USA. And to get the phone unlocked I`m not sure if a regular unlocking company would be able to do it someone with a sprint account would and it would be MUCH more trouble than just to pick up a ACTUAL GSM carriers Version of the phone.( I should had just said that to begin with) Its VERY pointless to TRY and want to use the sprint Version when they are SEVERAL OTHER varrients that are GSM they could have got to use.
EXCEPT... the op specifically said they wanted to purchase it from Amazon America to use on their country's GSM network.
Why they want to do that? WHO KNOWS, maybe it might be cheaper doing it this way, but that is what they want to do and despite all your unnecessary wrongful information, the OP can do what they asked as long as they can get the sim unlocked.

I sell on Amazon and Most people wont ship out of the USA on Amazon. Mostly only Candia but Ive tried ordering a lot of things overseas and 90% I cant as they wont ship here
Amazon sells the Sprint for $599 this is probably why. I bought mine at Best Buy and had them price match Amazon for that price.

Even IF the phone is capable of being used in GSM bands internationally, you would have to get it unlocked by sprint and they change policies all the time so just call..

Yea.... but it ONLY works internationally AND you have to be a sprint customer.
The POINT I have been trying to get across is that people need to understand Sprint is a CDMA carrier and ONLY relies on GSM for LTE. I think what people think is that they are solely a gsm carrier like most of the world is but its NOT

Question regarding G2 and Bad Esn sprint one.

After reading stuff i figured that all G2's are world phones.
Im From india and my question is that if i get a G2 of ebay sprint one with a bad ESN, since it cant be activated on sprint again which is a given.
Now my question is can buy the phone and use it with a regular GSM sim card from india ?
If yes what would i need to do to use the phone if it has a Bad ESN.
Any kind of answer would be helpful thanks a ton
Help
I don't think a Sprint G2 would work in India, sorry. Sprint is a US carrier and uses CDMA instead of GSM. However, the international D802 model should work fine. The ESN is attached to the phone and not the carrier anyway, so no matter what carrier your on it won't activate.
The Sprint G2 is not factory unlocked for international GSM usage. It is an international capable device though (GSM 850/900/1800/1900). If the seller is not specifically stating that the phone has been unlocked for international use then it will not work in India. Only Sprint can unlock the phone and if your not the owner of the phone with an active line with Sprint they wont unlock it for you plain and simple. I would recommend to save your self a big hassle and buy the international G2 D802.

No problem, I forgot to mention that the Verizon G2 is factory unlocked for GSM service. You could buy a BAD ESN Verizon G2 and put in your India GSM sim card and it would work with no unlocking necessary. I'm not sure what band you need for LTE, but HSPA+ should work.
