Super user gone crazy - Nexus S General

Hello!
I'm on 0923 cm nightly, bit SU keeps asking confirm for apps requesting root permission.
I have already fully wiped the phone before flashing the ROM.
Any idea?

This came up on the ns4g cm thread, and somebody suggested uninstalling superuser through titanium and installing supersu from the market. I couldn't find superuser in titanium to uninstall, but after installing supersu I stopped getting the constant notifications.

Had the same problem yesterday! Superuser went crazy and gave me a "Shell has been granted superuser permissions" prompt every two seconds or so until a restart. I downloaded SuperSU, but couldn't find a way to uninstall Superuser through Titanium (couldn't find it...) so I uninstalled SuperSU and updated the binaries on Superuser and have been fine since then, fingers crossed...
Running Rooted stock rom...

Also just flashed cm10 0923 nightly and having the same problem.
Found that tapping "Allow" about 3-5 times seems to work - though that's barely a solution!
And can't find the old SU in Ti to revert / restore...
--------------------
Now trying SuperSU from Chainfire off Play to see what that'll do.
Others' reviews seem promising...
--------------------
Solved. Still have to tap "Allow" through the old SU to get the new SU in place,
but after that everything seems just fine.

I had the same issue so I downloaded the SU
http://downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip
boot phone into recovery
install nightly
flash superuser
reboot

how about flashing recently cm? i have that issue too but solve by flashing other rom

With today's nightly the problem is gone.

Root question

Comrades, Just got myself a Nexus7 and rooted it as soon as I got home but titanium backup gives me an error message saying could not open and my device may not be properly rooted!! I used the root tool app.
Can I re root using the same steps without any damage ?
many thanks.

You need to unlock bootloader first before you can root.
Make sure to backup your data, it will be wiped when unlock the bootloader.

Do you really need titanium backup right now? if you just bought it and tried to root it as soon as you got home, you shouldnt have anything on your device of importance do you? lol
if you did get root, titanium needs a busybox installed for it to work. get the busybox app by stericson at the market. open the app, install busybox.

Yes, like most people I've spent a couple of days tweaking, downloading, transferring files and basicly using the tablet.
I did not sit will an empty tablet waiting to sort out the titanium problem. Thanks.

Since root, apps are incompatible

I had to RMA my first N10 for a bad power button. It was rooted but 100% stock otherwise. I did a titanium backup of my apps when I sent it back.
When I got the new nexus, I unlocked, rooted and flashed franko right away but left the stock ROM. I restored my apps and have been loving it ever since.
Now the problem. I use an app for work that has an important update to fix some bugs but now shows as not compatible with my device. I've tried clearing the market data and framework but it didn't help.
I would like to try flashing a stock kernel but can't seem to find a stock zip for CWM.
Any other ideas?

This is not a problem refered with the root or kernel, but with the comptibility of those apps with our device.
Even though I'm running the restored version in it now? The original app is fine, just the update is not compatible.
FWIW, I'm not arguing, I just want to understand before I contact the developer.

I just checked on a 2nd stock N10 and I have the same issue. I also checked on my non stock Nexus 4 and it does work. So I'll get after the Dev to get it fixed.
Thanks for the input.

2 Superuser apps..What the differnce?

I have Superuser App by ClockworkMod on my phone then I noticed at Store there another SuperUser App by ChainsDD. Is there any difference in the 2?
Thanks
It's like coke and Pepsi. Just different developers sharing their work. Both work fine

SuperSU works better on our phones and helps keep 'Official" status.

It should be noted that chainsDD has not updated his app in over a year. It might be better to go with the CWM version of move to SuperSU (Like i have).
I had always used CWM version of SU and I didn't even know that someone else had a SU app. I just noticed at Play Store and was just wondering.
Thanks for Info
Ron
Super SU
I am using SuperSU because it came with my root. I don't think you can go wrong with CWM's SuperUser app either.

After root issues

After I rooted my n4 and I'm in stock rom with no mods or anything just cwm and unlock bootloader plus root. My phone will turn to a black screen and reboot is this normal?

no.
it could also be an app, among other things. have you tried if after a factory reset, and a minimum amount of apps, it still continues?
No I haven't let. I only have a few apps downloaded. Including ROM manager and that's about it oh ya and Skype cud that be the issue?

it could be possibly. could be rom manager as well(or other root apps). is there a certain situation when this happens? do you have the superuser or supersu app installed?

It happened once when using Skype and once when browsing the web and I have the super su app installed

It happens to me sometimes due to a faulty kernel. It happened on stock too though. It shouldn't really be a problem and doesn't happen often to me. It went away after a day or so anyways.

try this, just as an easy possible solution.. boot into your custom recovery and wipe the dalvik and cache, nothing else, then reboot.

I removed that app and installed this one, and everything works fine:

Chainfires SuperSU has been updating and playing very well with everything. The one from root exploit is dodgy at best.

So I flashed the new superuser apk and you were right. The one that came with io root is dodgy. It never said I had any apps that had su rights.
The new app started freaking about su privileges. At least I know the new one is working.

Is it as easy as removing? and installling a new supersu? or do i have to flash it via TWRP?
Will using the superSU over write the previous?
I'm having the same issue but i stopped at that and haven't touched the phone since i saw others have been having trouble after that.
I have not installed TWRP or anything. i just want a simple root as i'm not looking to do anything fancy.
As you can tell I'm still new to all this.

Install the one I posted from the App Store, then remove the normal way thru app manager to remove the other one.
After opening the new Chainfire SuperSU, a pop-up will notify you that it found another version of SuperSU installed, and ask if you'd like to remove it. Select Yes, and the software will remove the previous version for you.
I downloaded the new superuser app and opened it. It said some information didn't really read. It was basically install while phone is still running or flash via custom recovery. I flashed via custom recovery then uninstalled the old superuser app.
The thing is the system part of your phone is read only during runtime and that is where the apk needs to me installed.

You don't need to install in recovery after initial root. This is just for troublesome phones. The G2 takes SuperSU like a champ. It will uninstall the old for you and install new and update without a problem.
