[Q] Motorola Defy+ : FOTA update failed !

I was pretty surprised to find a FOTA update waiting for my brand new Motorola Defy+ (Asia) when I logged on to Wifi after work. However after download, it invariably fails to install with a very simple error message of install failed !
FOTA details
-------------
Version : 45.0.1321.en.03
Changelog : http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles...cuments/Staticfiles/RN_DEFY-PLUS_Asia_MEA.htm
Phone Details
--------------
System Version : 45.0.891.MB526.AsiaRetail.en.03
Baseband Version : EPU93_U_00.60.00
Android Version : 2.3.4
However when I browse to the /cache folder (where the FOTA files are downloaded I see these 2 files : Blur_Version.45.0.891.MB526.AsiaRetail.en.03.crc and Blur_Version.45.0.891.MB526.AsiaRetail.en.03.zip
Can anybody please throw some light on what the hell is going on ? Did Motorola goof up and push 45.0.891.MB526.AsiaRetail.en.03 (already installed on the phone) as the update instead of 45.0.1321.MB526.AsiaRetail.en.03 (As displayed on the update popup) ?
Same here
Same experience for me too. Tried 3 times. Each time it reboots, a progress bar appears, but fairly quickly it shows an exclamation mark and the screen blanks out. Then it appears to boot normally and finally shows update failed message.
this software update failed
Im getting same response on my uk unbranded mb526
Post to motorola support forums ?
I posted in the motorola support forums and got a response from one of their reps who PMed me. Maybe if you guys also post there they'll put a little more importance to this ?
Thread is here : https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/62727
BTW I copied the update file from the cache and tried to manually update using Motorola Recovery. I get the dreaded : AccountSettings.apk error (https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/56713)
Motorola Support India called and I got the SBF flashed on my Device
Abesh, Did you have to take it in to a motorola service station?
They asked me to, but I told them that I have RSDLite and can flash the SBF if they gave me the sbf. They shared a dropbox link and I flashed myself.
Note however once you flash you'll loose root. SuperOneClick and Droid3Root does not work. Only way to get root is to use DooMLoRD's script. Refer to my post on how to root the Defy+ 2.3.6 in this forum.

What other info can I help you with ?
Hey I already replied quoting you on your thread about the ICS for Defy+ .... So I was asking if you could please share the SBF link!!! I am desperately searching for it!
Replied on the other thread. I've been explicitly asked not to share the update and I don't want to do anything illegal. I've been assured though that the correct update should hit the servers in not more than 2 days. Maybe wait till then ?

German update, same problem
I bought my defy+ as soon as it was available in Holland, apparently the phone is really the German release.
Today the update suddenly popped up on my phone, same problem the update failed !
When my phone arrived i deblurred it by editing build.props then hard reset, then i rooted it using the trick "from the german forum" so maybe this is why it failed to update ?
In other news i hear ICS will be coming soon, i suppose i'll just wait for that, but how to unroot my phone if required, i have no clue
more info on my update here
Update
Was anyone able to update..??
Please reply..!!
Need your assistance

Update your Defy Plus using your PC.
It is very easy to update your Defy plus and RSDlite is not required for updating the handset.
1) Just go to motorola India website and select defy plus then click Owner Support button.
2) On owner's support page you will have to click Update my software link.
3) Select defy plus from drop down menu.
4) on that page click "I have read Step 3 about third-party media."
5) and click download update.
6) Install the update software and after its installation connect your defy plus to your PC with USB cable.
7) The "Motorola update manager" software automatically detects your defy plus and install some drivers. it will take upto 5 to 10 minutes.
8) after that select update my phone software and your phone will get the latest update available.

[Q] What did the first update do?

When I first started my N7 it told me an update was available, so I downloaded it and installed it. The current version I have is 4.1.1, kernel is 3.1.10-g52027f9 and the build number is JRO03D.
Where there any features removed when this version was installed? Google seems to indicate it was a very minor update.
I ask this because I cannot find the BT tethering option that others have mentioned.

[Q] OTA updates on rooted device ??

Hi, please help me.
I was wondering, whether do we get OTA updates after rooting the phone ?
If a rooted device does not get OTA updates, does unrooting it help to get them back?
I *think* you can only manually update to a developer version once you have rooted. Could be wrong though.
Install Developer ROM

Download and install Developer ROM for your device model from the official MIUI website.
Developer ROM is pre-rooted and gets OTA updates almost weekly.
yes developer rom to be installed ......
if u like root permissions and want to have ota updates as well
where can one get the developer version?

- Can I root the phone?, can I install TWRP?
- Can I install another kernel?
- Can I install a custom rom?
Thanks in advance,
