[Q] My Defy is dead? please!! - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello guys, I have a defy what's with the following problem: he started to restart automatically when placed in the charger, that, I took the battery and put it again, then he did not call more and went straight to the menu screen: bootloader 09.10 err: A5, 69,35,00,40. he is ok with the battery, the rom was official, but the problem is that when I get RSD lite with the tutorials, it does not connect, even if I start clicking, and it will run normally and when it appears in 100% seguite field status: check sum error in the flash ram downloader for bootloader defy. I wonder if it is possible that voceis help me because I need a lot of my smartphone.

Seems that your Defys flash memory (Internal ROM) is corrupted. Best you can do is to take it to service centre.

got my new droid X 4 days ago rooted everything was fine.. came from a rooted droid 1 flashed numerous roms on my old droid... tried to install gummy jar rom today and now phone is bricked... i could get to bootloader but thats it.. tried sbf flash with rsd but nothing...tried with the new sbf file 2.3.32.. still no go.. i need help and advice.. bootloader screen has this on it.... 30.04 ERR: A5,70,70,00,1F.... NEW_MAP Blank... Service Reqd.... Help does anyone know what i should do??? rsd lite doesnt shows the sbf file but thats it.. bootloader screen constantly shows lo batt no matter plugged in constantly... bootloader screen now goes off when plugged into usb???? im completly stumped
it won't flash the sbf until the battery is charged, the .320 is the correct sbf for the 30.04 bootloader. You need to find a way to charge it or another battery.
hotwire the droid with an old USB cable. Google-
Bootloader 30.04 Battery Low Cannot Program
That shows you how to wire it up.
What version of windows are you using?
What version of RSDlite?
Do you have the drivers for your droid installed?

"error verifying code group 39 checksums. file: 0x558B, Phone: 0xF0C3( 0x4007031);"
now my defy only goes to a black screen with bootloader at the top "09.10"
is there anything i can do????can any please give me some advice please
Your sbf file could-be corrupted.

um... if you can extract the zip, it seems the sbf is not corrupted.
maybe you could go to stock recovery first (volume down+power),
wipe data and wipe cache, reboot.
try to flash sbf again.
ive tried that...
i think now its totally BRICKED...
there is no response from it, when i plug usb it charges but thats it.
man...looks like i need a phone
http://modmymobile.com/forums/31-rizr-z3/51338-critical-error-dea1.html
there you'll find another couple of links for Mac Gyver's remedies.. but they're for other moto phones, not specific for Defy, so i actually don't know what you can do.

Bad luck, but what about the warranty?
Despite your Defy is not "original" anymore i would try to send it to moto's assistance. Many of the times they just replace the bricked phone w/o many investigations..
Hi, today i was trying the same. Nordic sbf with rsd lite 4.9 and it could not be flashed till end... "Error verifying Code Group..." and similars in log file.
I dont have any critical error or HAB error yet.
Any further idea?
Battery charged?
If yes, then go to recovery (power button + volume down) wipe data/wipe cache and reflash nordic sbf with rsd lite.

I press volume down first, then power button. It remains black, however i see the backlight is turned on after i press power on of course. If i release power first, the same screen appears as mentioned (bootloader 09.10, code corrupt, ... USB), this one is the normal bootloader mode by the way (power on, while pressing volume up). So and if i release volume down first, of course it happens nothing, backlight is still on.
I think the flash is corrupted somewhere, as assumed RSD Lite log:

hey...
i have the same exact problem as you have/had..
did you get a fix??
i'm still trying..
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C7DMWX8S
Here you have RSD Lite v5 (the last 1 i think) and motorola drivers....both of them are working (tested myself).....install these then try to reflash nordic
I guess no1 of you had gingerbread installed (leaked GB not miui or cm7)
just got JORDN_U3_97.21.51 to work.. with a fresh download and a fresh pc!!
that just made my day!
but... when i tried to wipe everything and then flash the Nordic rom suggested.. i get a black screen and nothing to work..
any ideas?
None of you guys ever heard of the flashing downgradability issues??
That is not only between froyo and eclair: if you flash a newer froyo sbf, you can't flash the old after and would likely get black screen or boot loops.
Flashing a new signed sbf is not a game and you should learn a few things first.
This seems like good place to ask my question. After my phone bricked and would only go to the bootloader screen like the guys above I took it to Motorola who said I needed a new motherboard. The new motherboard had 2.2 already loaded, now I would like to go to the Nordic rom but I am worried that my 2.2 will be newer and I will end up with the dreaded black screen our stuck on the Moto logo if I try to flash Nordic. Is there something I can look at to determine if I can go to Nordic from my current rom?

jst a quick question ... is it GB or Gingerbread and if i flash it ... .can i get back to stock 2.2.2 froyo ? cause i m already running stock GB by shadow 134 built ..... so please tell me if i can go back to 2.2.2 or not after i flash it ....
i know its basic but maybe someone forgot it.
when you flash with rdslite make sure the sbf's name is not too long because then the software cant flash the sbf properly

Flash the Boost Gingerbread SBF and you will recovery your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1858403
For use in Sprint, you might have to flash the Sprint update.zip again. Not sure about it. but GSM works out of US.
Hi kapil,
Did u flash the Boost GB sbf on ur XPRT and used in India?? Mine is stuck contacting the server...unable to open any menu...i got in US...rooted...screwed...factory reset and ended up like this.

It would be stuck on "Contacting Network" for at least 2-3 minutes and than continue further.
Since you cant root the phone and remove the Sprint/Boost Activation files. You need the SPC and use CDMA workshop to change type to RUIM only. That would remove the Contacting Network.

No. it just goes on. Actually when it says 'contacting network', I would press power button to select airplane mode and boot into. But then it says 'Communicating with the server' and this one would go on for hours! (I actually observed it).
Because the only screen it shows is of 'Communicating with Server' and I cannot open ANY application/menu. at this point I dont think I can root. Please confirm.
Also the links to download the Gingerbread sbfs are prompting to install 'Livid' before downloading....isnt there any better link?
Thanks for the quick reply...its like a ray of hope... Long back I had scoured so many forums regarding this only to see dead ends...Please cling on and help me resurrect my XPRT

[Q] My Defy won't turn on

So, i updated the software a few weeks ago from 2.2.2 to 4.1.1 , all went well , it was a complete succes. Today i wanted to go back to 2.2.2 . I downloaded RSD Lite 4.9 and a SBF file, I entered Bootloader menu and tryed to downgrade , but i got some errors and the phone got stuck in bootloader menu . I thought it was from the SBF , and i tryed another file and the update failed and the phone shut down . And now i dont know what to do , i'm kind of desperate . And when i plug it in the PC the white LED turns on , when it is charging in the wallcharger the LED doesent turn on . I tryed different ways to turn it on ... and with no luck.

Reflash another SBF... did you try flashing an éclair sbf by mistake?
What was your BL?
Try one of the BL5 froyo sbfs... Nordic seems to be rather popular... check the BL version before you flash, try out BL 5, but I'd suggest you think twice and ask for more help before flashing a BL6 sbf.

Ya BL is 9.10 for all, bit there's (sub) versions of it like CG4 ,CG5 CG6 & CG7. So most people just say BL6 BL7 etc. That's what I meant.
CG Version 2: SBF 2.21 / 2.34 /
Chinese (Éclair) (Defy)
CG Version 3: SBF 2.51 (Éclair) (Defy)
CG Version 4: SBF 3.4.2 (Froyo) (Defy)
CG Version 5: SBF 4.5.0 / 4.5.1
(Gingerbread) (Defy)
CG Version 6: SBF 4.5.1 (Gingerbread,
2.3.6, (Red lens Defy/Defy+) )
CG Version 7: SBF 4.5.1 (Latests
Gingerbreads, 2.3.6, (Red lens Defy/
Defy+) )
If you try to flash a lower ID version
than the one already on your phone, you
will just get a Black screen after booting
or a screen telling you to flash an
official rom.
So, with this in mind, you can now hop
between Android versions without
screwing up your phone.
This thread explains everything: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982
Use an external charger or another phone to fully charge your battery and then plug it in and RSDLite will detect it.

Hi, I am in a similar situation that my defy wont boot up (no screen activity) after I flashed the official Froyo ( Ver 4). The problem is that i bought it second hand and some miui rom (gingerbread) was installed in it with second init active with prerooted. I wanted official Froyo, dont know what was the highest version installed in it. Later tried to install the Nordic Froyo SBF, it didn't help either.
I have another defy on the same miui built (which is working normally and used for charging the dead defys battery), dont know what to do with the soft-bricked one. Which sbf to flash to make it work again.

Have you tried charging through external battery charger or the mcgyver method?

Flashing a bl6 sbf helped out. The sbf I used was dfp-125. Made my defy into defy plus though and only after that it booted. Can root and install secondinit on it for further flashing. Once you get to the red motor logo after flashing, you might have to wipe data cache from stock recovery.
Hope this helps.

Make a downgrade on defy results: Brick your device!
1st attempt: Plug in the PC and wait a green led (means your battery it´s above 80% charged)... Be patient!!!
2nd attempt: You must to have/do one "factory cable"(searchable in CM´s foruns) to charge the battery. To be recognized by the RSD Lite you need to keep the "factory cable" to do a downgrade.

Guys please help me with my broken firmware.
I have Defy plus mb256 bl 9.1 and tried so many different sbf, but i am stucked on bl screen with err: A5,69,35,00,27
When i use RSDlite it looks evrything is ok, and finaly typed Pass as result of flashing. But when i power the phone have Moto logo for a minute then bootloader screen with that error. I guess its from bad sbf. sbf.droid-developers works no longer and i cant find enough sbf files. So please provide a link for the right sbf files i need.
Thank you in advance.
