Odds are you were on 3.1 when you unboxed but it doesn't matter. The easiest way to root the tab is to use ODIN to flash ClockworkMod Recovery, put the root .zip on the SD card and then flash the root .zip form CWM. Feel free to let me know if you need help!

The standard GT10.1 root zip installs an old version of Superuser that doesn't jive well with ICS. The solution is using Superuser 3.1.3-ARM from the Superuser site, but I have seen so many people struggle with this that I think I might take it upon myself to take the current flashable zip and just create a new one specifically for ICS by replacing the apk. I don't think anyone would mind, would they? There's no rule against doing so as far as I know.
I think I will ask a couple of q's about it and then put that together for everyone if it's cool.

Supercool. I've tried a lot of ways to root Stock ROM ICS, and most methods just make it worse (scrolling recovery, scrolling wake-up screen, etc.), so if you have a fail-safe method, via Odin, or noob-friendly Odin-free (my pref), be my guest, and I will misuse a secondary one for testing that (my wife's, if I survive the wrath)...
You've got my support!

I agree, rolling anything sucks. But I'm...just another noob. *snicker*
What I'm offering is to take that Galaxy_Tab_Root.zip and repackage the flashable zip with the newer Superuser apk...it won't fix the rolling recovery or rolling wakeup of an ICS rom - there's lots of content on this forum that teaches folks how to get around that. I do agree it would be helpful to newcomers to be pointed in the direction of the right solutions so that is something I'd do.
Speaking of the wife's device - I feel you there too.....took me almost 2 months to convince the lady to let me touch it and I just rooted it when she wasn't looking.

The OP says it's confirmed working on the GT-P7510, but it was just in a response to a thanks post by someone using a 7510. They never said whether it worked or not. I tried it and it failed on my GT-P7510. I didn't try but once though. YMMV
BTW-It did not do any harm at all trying. It just didn't work.

OK guys, here you go:
ICS Root Zip
Here's what I did
1) Cracked open the Superuser flashable zip and the old root zip
2) Swapped in the new update-binary from the Superuser flashable zip and merged updater-scripts so newer su binary file and Superuser.apk are installed - really not that much different from the Superuser flashable honestly
3) zipped it all back up
All of the credits in the original update script and proper credits for su binary/Superuser.apk added to script - I take credit for nothing other than swapping updated files into the old zip package.
NOTE: This particular package is NOT TESTED!!! I am at work and already have a rooted tab so haven't got the environment to test it right now. However, in all honesty, the changes are pretty minor so it should work just fine. If any of you are on stock firmware, give it a go if you choose but don't flame me if it doesn't work. TAKE A BACKUP WITH YOUR RECOVERY FIRST! THAT IS ALREADY A RULE!
Hope this works and saves folks a step trying to root ICS.
EDIT: If someone can confirm that this works I'll probably just add the same link to the existing HOWTO thread for rooting this device. People are already looking there first for direction so we'll make it nice and easy to find.

help please

thank you for your response and offeing to help i would'nt mind if your way works as i dont want to brick it as its only a week old so if you can point me in the right direction to get the files i need and maybe a guide to follow that would be appreciaped thanks .

Head into the Android Development section and check the stickies at the top of the forum. There are wonderful guides there that will point you to the correct recovery.
Make sure you save this ZIP file I re-packaged to the root of your tablet before you start...saves you some time when you actually start the process. You can simply reboot into your newly flashed recovery and then flash the zip file. Let me know if it works for you!! Again, I didn't really change it at all, just tiny changes to the updater script and updated files.

Hi billy...How did things go? Were you able to get rooted?

A Newbie needs Help?

Hi Guys, ive had my A500 for a couple of weeks now and i love it -------- im a Tablet/Computer DUMMY, can you PLEASE tell me what is "ROOTING" ?
I ask as ive read a lot about it on here and wonder if i should do it.
I will give you a different view then some I would imagine. My answer is do not bother with "Rooting".
In short, it gives you access to the files you would not normally see or need on a normal usage basis.
I would suggest you continue to use the A500 as is with out rooting it until you either find the device simply does not function as you want, or you continue to read the threads and decide you wish to try it out.
Having said that and is found in another thread simply rooting is not dangerous. But, I would say if you are new to computers/tablets that little value would be added to your experience so simply enjoy your A500.
Thankyou for your reply
install a file manger from market
install the apk from the list in this link
if you are on 3.1 install version 1.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138228
once you downloade the file click and install the apk from you file manager
install acer recover installer from market
open the app and click install recovery rom 1.3 thor something
reboot to recovery and install what ever rom you like
Rooting grants you access to system files you would not normally have access to.
If you don't know what it is, or don't know what the risks are, I wouldn't recommend doing it ... But I can't stop you from rooting

rooting
This gives you access to operation system files. Rooting your device is a must to get access to advance setting and change the way your tablet functions. First some reasons to not root
1.you avoid your warranty
2.you make your system easily available for mistakes to cause it to no longer being usable.
reasons average users root
1.can install advance control apps
2.can do complete backups thou not really need if you are not root access
3.hacks like the Netflix fix.adding ad-hoc support for tethering to phone
DO NOT ROOT UNTIL YOU DONT HAVE TO ASK THERR SIMPLE QUESTIONS
With that said all the answers are here in this forum.thanks to all the wonderful developers and advanced users.
Good luck. Empower yourself for a better android experience.

the merits of the root
For me, the root brought netflix, not sure if there is a way to get it yet without root. Yep, use my tab with netflix while i run my 5 miles in the gym (ok i walk most of the way, enough to see an entire movie, or email or whatnot. Worth the price of the tab right there.

Not the only thing that a root can do
Sent from my magical HTC Wildfire S.
While I am not a dev, I have spent a great many years around *nix systems. Rooting, in itself, is not difficult nor dangerous. The danger is in the new abilities to modify system parameters which should be left alone by those without sufficient knowledge. Acer has provided a utility to allow for system restore and some backup abilities which should be sufficient for most new users. With android, as with any OS, knowledge is power. I usually suggest new users gain knowledge about the system before tampering with root.
I am new to the acer community but some of you may have seen me on the nook color or huawei s7 forums and I am starting development work on the webos forums. As I said before, I am not a dev (yet) but I believe everyone should understand a concept before blindly rushing into the fray.
I will get off my soapbox now and go play. Enjoy your new acer...

Video tutorial for absolute newbies: How to Root + Upgrade + and load Custom ROM

Hey everyone I decided to make an in depth video tutorial so that no matter which version of Android you're running you can follow along until you reach the part of loading a custom ROM (in this case zdzihu's final Cyanogenmod 7).
This was made so that even the biggest noob can follow along this video tutorial if you're stuck with the X10 due to a contract why not get the most out of it?
Q: Have a an error? Got stuck?
A: Please use XDA search since I didn't do any of the developing!
Q: Why start from Android 2.1 and show every single step until finally flashing the custom ROM?
A: This was done intentionally so that no matter what version of Android you're on, if you find the video part that is like running the same version of Android as your X10 then you can follow along from there.
Q: Doesn't it seem a bit too long? I've seen shorter videos.
A: Again, this was done intentionally so that even if someone is currently on Android 1.6 or 2.1 they can follow along. I want to show people how to backup apps before losing eveything, its pretty annoying otherwise.
Q: Why bother showing every step?
A: My g/f and two friends are stuck with the X10 until their contracts allows them to hardware upgrade until next summer, I want to help other people get the most out of their phone. I don't care about donations, if this helps one person out I'm happy with that. It sucks paying tons of money for a device that is laggy and be stuck with it for years. XDA members have helped me many times, I just wanted to contribute back somehow, the more people share knowledge for free, then the world slowly becomes a better place.
In part 1:
-How to backup contacts (like I said, for newbies )
-How to install a driver for the computer
-How to root
-How to backup apps
-How to upgrade to the official Sony Gingerbread
In part 2:
-How to root Official Sony Gingerbread
-Downloading XRecovery
-Installing the Android SDK
-Installing Xrecovery
-Downloading xRecovery update
-Downloading Cyanogenmod 7 files
In part 3:
-Download Cyanogenmod 7
-Restoring apps via root method
I take no credit for any of the rooting methods, or making the cusom ROMs, this is simply a video tutorial, all necessary links are in the Youtube video description.

Wow that's so much easy to follow! I have just one question.. ( i am a noob) ok I was able to get GB ported through my phone when the rollout for GB was happening so it was a flash upgrade no root.. I have app to sd card installed and moved everything i could over to sd card for the apps that i couldn't move over is there anyway to get them backed up? or do i have to flash back to 2.1 and do this process from the very beginning?
thanxx for this fantastic topic!

I no longer have an X10, I'm using a Nexus One, but with Titanium Backup I'm able to backup any app even under these conditions: app on internal memory, apps2SD and/or apps2ext (its always backed things up). It should work for the X10 as well. There is no reason to go back to 2.1 as long as you are rooted.
If you're ever in doubt download a random app from the market and back it up with Titanium Backup, uninstall the app and restore it with Titanium Backup, thats the easiest and safest way to test. *Remember your phone must be rooted to use Titanium Backup*
Ok the phone is now rooted but I have ran into another road block, first is when i try to install xrecovery from the link provided it comes up with a mass lot of letters and symbols theres no button to click install after you click it initially.. Also I'm trying to install eclipse and get the android sdk but everytime i go to install eclipse i get this message...
"The Eclipse executable launcher was unable to locate its companion shared library"
What does that mean? what have i done wrong???
Ok since the last time i posted i went through everything again i sat down and worked everything out and now i have a rooted x10 on GB and most importantly i am running CM7!! thank you soo much for the helpful tutorials! even a complete noob like me is able to complete this. I can safely say that you have helped that one noob you wanted to help.
So now that i have done setup to get to where i am now, if i wanted to change to a different rom for some reason now do i just bascially download desired rom and load it through xrecovery? so long as i have the compatable bb71?
Thanks again!

Glad to read it worked out. I no longer have an X10 (using Nexus One) but yes, you should be able to flash other roms via xRecovery, I suggest you always make a backup first. *Note I have not tried other ROMS via xRecovery, try at your own risk, please research on how to flash your desired ROM before doing so. There could be certain variables that could cause an error such as: wrong version of xRecovery, kernal issue, baseband issues, etc.* Do some research in the correct thread of your desired ROM and I'm sure someone will be able to answer, best of luck.
p.s. Sorry for the delayed response, I'm swampped with mid-terms.
That's all gotta prioritize the more important things in life, im just wondering it seems to me that cm7 drinks the juice a little more than the stock 2.3.3. I do have a thread in place to find out as to why theres mention of calibrating the battery but i'm unsure on how to do this im waiting on a response in my other thread. eventually i want to get to 2.3.7 before if and when the devs make a ics port.
But thankyou again and good luck with the exams.
thanks!!! it work perfectly
Thanks for your information

My x10 doesn't reboot! =/
Hi clozecall and thanks for the help:
While doing everything you said in your videos (I'm a noob), I got stucked in step N° 2. After flashing with "aZuZu Kernel - Upgrade" my x10 doesn't reboot correctly. The SE logo just appears and then it turns off, and again the logo and again off and over and over... any idea or help pls??

New Owner :),. I need Help

Hi Guy's,
I just bought this tab yesterday and I love it so far ., I just don't like the camera resolution which really sucks compared to other 5MP camera shooter Sphones or tab. Also I get this weird humming/buzzing/kinda pitchy noise when I'm charging my tab with the screen on ,but when it's on standby it just disappears. . Playing 1080p movies sucks too ; kinda choppy .I want to root it, but I search around this forum and couldn't decide which is the best and the easiest way/method to do it.I'm running honeycomb 3.2.1 and does CMW recovery included when I root it? or do i have to install it after? Also I read some threads that I need to make a ROM/files backup but I think it only applies to rooted device right?I saw that ICS+root leak but im kinda hesitant ,they said you may not received future OTA updates? & does it include CMW recovery? Im sorry ist kinda confusing. I hope you guys can give me some tips and advise. Thanks.
First off .. Any modification you do to protected software/rom from acer will likely cause you issues with OTA updates. as far as the noise this has been reported by some people . Some quite bad some only a bit. I would suggest trying to charge it with a different wall plug in your home. maybe another room that is on a different circuit . using a surge protector can also help this. If you bought the tab from a brick and mortar store . You could exchange it very easly.
To know the requirements to root your device you would have to post what rom version you are on.
3.0 - 3.1 you can root with iconia root .. install acer recovery installer then flash recovery from there .Then you can update to one of the latest recoveries from there being cwm or RA .. Ra would be my recommendation
3.2 and above you need to downgrade method to be able to root
Again there are links in this forum and as you say several ways Timmy Deans seem to be the most used .
The above is NOT intended to be a guide on how to do any of the necessary.. but only to confirm what your asking . as your post is very wide open asking alot of information.
Please be specific as to your rom version and what you wish to do . And we can point you in the right direction..
Good luck.. Welcome to forum
Root does not give you CWM recovery - it just gives you root access. You install CWM separately after you root your device. To make backups, you need CWM. Unfortunately you're on 3.2.1 and there's no way to root it and as erica said you need to downgrade first.

Hi Thank you Ms. Erica,
I'm currently looking at possible 3.2.1 root using , Root 3.2.1 V4.7Z; there are instructions that comes with the zip file., I just don't now how to back-up my current ROM . I don't have CMW recovery installed on A500 . So which mean I can't back-up/revert my tab when bad things happen.
What I want is:
1. Root on 3.2.1 which is noob certified( easy)
2.How to download/install CMW reovery before rooting? or after rooting?
3.Preferred Max clock speed which is reliable and usable?
4.App or a tweak that will let me play 1080P videos
5.BEST RATED ROM on A500 (New,Performance,Customization,reliable,no bugs)
6.Ist possible to put a simcard on A500? I think they just put a sticker next to the sd card slot., but i didint removed it .
Thank you.,

Thor's CWM - install and then you can update it easily from tegraowners.com to the latest version
Drelisdee's recovery - you can flash it on top of thor's if you're not confortable with ADB

For questions 1 and 2, I would suggest reading through this sticky. It has other threads that can specifically answer your questions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209988
3. I have had clock speeds up to 1.5GHz on my tablet without experiencing any issues, but your mileage may vary.
4. For 1080p, you should read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184002
5. I currently use Taboonay 3.0.1, which works fine for my needs. But because these are custom roms, each one will have their pros and cons. My suggestion is to look through the Android development thread, read the first few messages of each of the rom threads (usually you'll get what the rom has or doesn't have in those) and download one (or more if you like to try things out like I do). Then go into recovery (once you get it installed), make a backup of your current rom, do a factory reset and flash your new rom.
6. No, it is not possible to put a simcard in the A500. From what I read, there are physical components missing on the motherboard to make a simcard work. The A501 is exactly like the A500, but it has a 3G module built in (which accepts simcards).

I don't think that's too likely to happen, look at HC3.2 +.... You have to revert back to 3.0 or 3.1 to root your tab...
Also the new bootloader seems to be a real mongrel to go around, if that IS the final bootloader that will be shipped or a red herring to distract devs from the real bootloader which may be harder to crack/circumvent which took a good 3 or 4 days now. It also looks like it could be an incomplete bootloader so who knows what the final monster will be like...
thanks
hi guys thank u for the support & ideas.... Ived managed to root my A500 HC3.2.1 with thors v1.5 CMW i havnet installed any roms yet cuz im kinda scared of bugs....well if u guys can suggest a new rom that is bugless & fun to be a daily driver....then im gonna try it . Also Ived try a camcorder patch that will let us record 1080P on rear camera & 720p on front, but only the front camera works so i revert to the old 1's. I wish they will come up something like that or a fix maybe. .
1. Brower fix? It fc sometimes
2.any tweak that will make camera less grainy? Other 5mp phones has a better results than ours ;(
3. Im looking for a hard case for my tab but amazon only sells those folio type ;P

[Q] Full backup of Acer Iconia A500

Please dear God help me out with this, I am so lost! So I bought an Acer A500 tab, and I want to root it. But before that! I want to save the current firmware and the CWM due to me having a two year warranty on the device, and I'm a afraid if I were to return the device with issues clearly it'll void the warranty since I've rooted the device. So please can anybody help me out? I am in huge need of help!
Thanks in advance!
To help you I need first some information about your tab. First, what android version is installed on your tab? The best backup will be with CWM but then you need root.
Of course you could connect your tab to the PC via USB and copy everything to your HDD. But I think here you need root as well to be able to see the system folders... .

A paradox.
You can't save your current rom in it's native form unless you root. And you can't save it, unless you install a custom recovery. And even then, you're saving a modified OS that if you restore, will be modified. So a paradox.
So if you want to root, and install roms, you'll just have to suck it up like everybody else
Fortunately, lots of methods to revert back to stock in case needed.
So, you either take the plunge, or stay stock.
Not only that but most Big Box stores dont have a clue and rarely look at it anyway ,unless you tell them its something you did (which would void the warranty) . But for me personally I void warranty within a few hours on everything I get , if its electronic they always take it back , I wouldnt worry about it , run a bunch of stress tests for a couple days if the components are sound ,it will complete them no problem , then root away and have fun!
Thank you all!
Thank you all for your replies! I can honestly say, I can happily root my device without a worry now. But I have a couple of things I'd like to ask, for one. What is a cpu ID? Also say for example I rooted my device and want to revert back to the original OS is that possible or not? Here is my current information.
Android Version
3.0.1
Kernel Version
2.6.36.3-00001-gf991e5d
Build number
Acer_A500_1.016.05_COM_GEN1
That's my current information. IF anybody of you guys call tell me I would like to root my device but with ICS not with Honeycomb since at the moment that's what I currently have. Also I have 2 year warranty.
Cheers! And much appreciation!
First, this is an excellent post about CPUIDs, why you need them, and how to get them posted by dibb_nz ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25429111#post25429111 this will really give some direction on why it's important and how you can get it.
If you want to root an ICS rom I recommend reading this post from Civato on how to upgrade your bootloader to v6: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425 I recommend the Automated Flashing tools for ease, but the manual version is good if you want to know more about what you're doing on the tablet.
Then pick a ROM, I personally use Flexreaper Extreme, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22964651&postcount=1 but there are several out there to choose from, I recommend putting several on your MicroSD card before you start any portion of the process and that way you have several to choose from, test between them, and don't "over customize" until you make your decision.
Finally, I'll remind to you, as many others will do, BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!
Good Luck, and most importantly, have fun!

You freaking rock bro! I have a question, since I already have Honeycomb on my Android by default, would I need to root first before I update it to the newer version of the ICS? OR would I just have to manually update it first and then begin the process of rooting the device? I as well admire Flexreaper Extreme. I also noticed there are special mods for the device to change the skin etc...Would you know where I can get the tutorial on that? I know I'm jumping too much, but I'm too darn excited to do this. Hahaha.
Cheers!

You should be able to start the process by going through the steps in Civato's post on how to change your Bootloader, make sure you have a ROM on the MicroSD before doing this, and then follow the steps to install the ROM you choose.

In the OP for Flexreaper there are discussions about how to install the customizations, Civ wrote a great beginners guide to modding that might help, posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1648162

No worries, it's a good thing to be excited about...I enjoy changing ROMs, testing apps, and generally "messing" with my tablet all the time.
Good Luck, Have fun, and don't forget to BACKUP!!

Sounds like it didn't install cleanly. Double check the checksum, try redownload, wipe everything and reinstall. If that doesn't work make sure that your bootloader and Rom match.

Hi! Thanks for your reply I have successfully rooted my device after hours of research I had to reinstall everything from scratch, unfortunately my build for my tab isn't the same as the the build I had it when I bought it, oh well...So now I have HC 3.0.1
So now I want to flash the device, is that possible? I want to get that ICS look without updating it to the ICS. I was wondering what would you advice me to do? haha, I know I'm asking way too many questions in this single form, I have an excuse for that I'm a noob, hahaha. But seriously your help is very much appreciated!
I will suggest rooting your HC ROM first, then install recovery for example via acer recovery installer. Make a backup then!
After that you can use AFTEROTA to upgrade the bootliader and recovery. When finished install an ICS ROM of your choice. With the help from AFTEROTA you can all ways go back to stock HC version.
m.
[Solved] Thank you every that helped me
Thank you guys for your help and advices! I have successfully updated and rooted, and flashed my device after hours of reading and going through posts, hahaha. Of course I did do a full backup of everything and now I am good to go! Again thanks again guys, much appreciation!
Cheers! Moe Kami!

big thanks!

just want to give a big thanks to @simms22 for going above and beyond to help me fix my nexus 6...

why not also share the problem and the fix so anyone who will have the same issue will be thankful to you to

the only reason I hangout on XDA now-a-days is to learn about any new things that my device would enjoy(not much), but mostly to help people out

i am not sure i can describe the issues correctly, and i will sound dumber than i already feel.
basically i flashed a rom without doing a backup. something went wrong, and i wound up with a non-working phone. thought it was the 72-hour google hold, but after 72 hours i still had a non-functioning phone. it turned out to be that i needed to flash a factory image, and then re-flash twrp and re-root.
@simms22 walked me through the steps, and provided links so i knew where to look.
i definitely learned a lot about fastboot, and adb, but it just shows how much i still need to learn.
again, thanks for being patient.
can you quote his reply here where he stated the steps and links
I don't mean to be rude or something but really this mobile has a lot of outdated guides and new tips that it is not easy for newbie to find the correct way without reading A LOT or creating a new thread to ask, so having a very neat reply with steps and links should be very helpful

it was a long conversation with many replies via pm. the guides here are right.. it was just a matter of explaining the steps where he misunderstood, and following through with them instead of getting nervous and freaking. I did help by providing a few links, like to SuperSU 2.66, and virtually being there behind him, just for support. but really, he did it all himself. basically, I was a friend supporting another friend

I can try to type up a step-by-step since it is still pretty fresh in my mind.
I started with a fresh slate, stock 6.0.1 mmb29s ROM, and I already had the android sdk platform tools and adb installed and working properly. As long as you have all that going for you, you are in the same boat as I was and you can follow.
First, unlock the bootloader. I just followed the steps listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56938530&postcount=1
Then I flashed TWRP. I made a folder on my desktop called "Nexus6", and saved the TWRP .zip in it. I renamed it recovery.img to make it easier. Boot into fastboot, plug the phone in, and open a command prompt window. Then I typed:
fastboot flash recovery C:\xxxx\recovery.img (xxxx meaning the rest of the file path)
I used the volume rocker to boot into recovery to make sure it brought me to TWRP, which it did. TWRP asked me if I wanted to allow it to make modifications to the system or leave it read only. I wasn't sure, and after reading a bit and seeing both answers, I allowed it to make modifications, but when it asked me if I wanted it to install SuperSU, I denied that. I booted up regularly after that just to make sure everything was still working, which it was, so I booted into TWRP and made a backup at this point, in case something went wrong while rooting.
After the backup, I rebooted, and downloaded SuperSU v2.66 to my internal storage. Then I booted into TWRP, flashed the SuperSU .zip, followed the onscreen prompts, and rebooted the system when it was all done.
I already had RootChecker installed, and after all was said and done, I had root.
Like I said, I know just enough to be a danger to myself, and these are the steps that worked for me. Hopefully they work for you as well. I don't think I left anything out, and my biggest issue was figuring out how to make fastboot flash from a certain file path, which in hindsight really isn't tough.
So now I am on an unlocked, rooted stock 6.0.1 ROM.
just so that EVERYBODY knows, if you don't flash SuperSU yourself, then if twrp asks if you want it to install SuperSU, press no. it has a really old version, it won't give anybody root. and some won't be able to boot up after.
Could I replace the SuperSU apk inside TWRP after decompiling it with Anddroid Image Kitchen or would I have to rewrite some of the code too?
Edit: Just looked at it for my N7. Looks like there is a .sh file that I'd have to rewrite. I'm not comfortable with that.

Now thats the spirit, you sir are one of the prince(s) among thieves

Yup, me included sometimes to be honest. Sometimes its hard to keep the faith when users keep asking the same questions or discuss the same issues over and over again, thread after thread. There should be done more searching and reading by many users before posting something

Just curiosity!! But I looked at it after unpacking an image for my N7 I found the SuperSU folder and where to place the apk but it also has some files and I know off one now that I'd have to rewrite but I don't know what I'm doing so I'm not!! Again was just curious! Thought it'd be like with a rom.zip. Take out what you don't want add or replace as needed! Thanks!

ahh.. all my years of android, no one has ever had any interest in changing anything about SuperSU, at least none that wanted to change it and asked publicly. so congrats, you are a first

No that's not what I meant. I don't know where the misunderstanding lays but I was talking about replacing the SuperSU. apk inside of TWRP with an updated one. Outside of flashing a zip I have no clue on how to manually root my device. I did look it up once and got nowhere so I wouldn't want to mess with or change SuperSU its perfection as is IMHO.

When I saw this I was curious as if it was possible to update the SuperSU. apk inside of TWRP with an updated one. I have Android Image Kitchen on my rig and thought I could unpack the TWRP.img with it and replace the outdated supersu.apk.
Both are truly out of my league so now my curiosity is settled.

That doesn`t mean its impossible, you could PM the TWRP devs and ask them to offer a TWRP version with the latest systemless root installed. The result would be the same

I see now that it is but its something I'm not comfortable with doing. Yes most definitely if it was a big concern of mine I'd do so but truly its not hard to hit " Do not Install" when exiting TRWP. I didn't know that the SuperSU.apk built into TWRP was outdated but I did know that it caused issues with systemless root. So in that aspect then maybe it should be addressed with the devs but I'm sure it's already in the works for they were probably more aware of the issue then I. That and I'm not the one to be like " hey dev when you gonna update". Thanks to you both though I do truly appreciate it. I just got curious.
