Modded Spotify for Kindle Fire (Works 100%)

So, like most people on this lovely planet, I received a Kindle Fire for Christmas. One of the first things I did with it was install Spotify. However, like most people know, the Fire's software UI controls cover up the Spotify controls, making it sorta useless.
So this morning I decompiled it and made a few quick changes so it would work better.
The only remaining problem is that I couldn't find out how to reposition the view player (the little tab you can drag up that displays the album art, music controls, etc...). So instead of repositioning it, I moved the music controls above the album art. You can bring it up by clicking the (blank) center button. It works 100%, just doesn't look at nice.
Finally, I replaced the icon with an icon I found in the hi-res folder, so the icon looks all nice and spiffy in the carousel. *You might have to restart your Fire before this will take effect if you have all already installed Spotify on your device*
I attached some picture showing what I've done.
Installation instructions for the plebeians:
*On your Kindle*
1. Go to settings > Device and turn "Allow Installation of Applications" on.
2. Download the attached modified .apk
*For some reason it will give an error if you try to install with the default installer on the Kindle Fire, so you can't simply install it from the browser*
4. Download AndroXplorer for free from the Amazon App Store
5. Open AndroXplorer and browse to /sdcard/Download/
6. Tap KFSpotifyAndroid.apk and it will bring up a dialog asking you to install.
Ta Da!
*I lied about being able to install it over your previous spotify app. Make sure to delete any previous Spotify app from your system before installing.*
*This is not a cracked version, simply a small change to the interface, in order to use Spotify on your mobile device you must have a subscription. (Though they do give out trials to new users.)*
And that's that. Enjoy Spotify. Hopefully they're working on a more official version, but this will do until then.

Probably a stupid question, but this is a free app that requires a paid subscription..right?

So I tried as you suggested, installing via the androxplorer as well as ES-file-explorer. Neither one allowed the .apk to install!
I'm running a stock kindle, the only change i've made is to use Go-Launcher.

No, only the inteface has changed to accommodate the "bar" at the bottom which blocked the controls on the Spotify app. If you don't have a paid subscription, the app is useless.

Thanks man, works perfectly. I got install errors at first, but all I had to do was uninstall the existing app completely before trying this one.

Missing file
Hi all,
There's no "KFSpotifyAndroid.apk" file available to download. I tried downloading the "SpotifyAndroid.apk" file, which did overwrite my existing install, but this did not fix the issue with Spotify controls.
There's another file in the /SDcard/Download folder: "Spotify-41200180.apk" but generates an error "Parse error - There is a problem parsing the package."
Help?

The file appears to be missing-- is there any way it could be reposted? Thanks for the help!

Hi, love this apk. Have tried it om my Xcover and it works much better than the original. It's Awsome. But is it possible that you could add folder support? Would really love that

Hulu on Kindle Fire

I wanted Hulu on my kindle fire without paying for hulu plus so I found a hacked apk from the xoom and thought I would share the wealth. This apk makes it so that while browsing your Kindle looks like a windows computer and will allow access to flash apps that normally are only available to a PC. Works like a charm! Hulu looks really good and no sync issues. I haven't tried youtube yet, but I assume it works the same. I searched hacked flash apk in google and clicked a link to the xoom forums. I loaded the apk on my kindle and installed it.

link? i don't have issues with youtube, just hulu.
nvm, hulu works with dolphin browser, just flash didn't work with the firefox browser.

How did you get Hulu and Dolphin browser to work? I have a rooted device, installed Dolphin Browser form android market. Still didn't work.

When you set up dolphin browser for the first time it gives you an option to run your browser as android, load, mobile, or desktop. Select desktop and you should be good to go. You can also change this from the settings menu in dolphin after you installed it. I would post slink but since I'm new to xda I can't post links until I have 10 posts. I'm close now...haha. ill post a link as soon as I can. Sorry.

Well, Kindle Fire play Youtube videos fine, I have had no problem especially if you side load the youtube app, though I also got a free YouTube download from aneesoft to download videos, but to be frankly, the kindle play great and no need to do other works.
Hmm, Im curious how did you to watch Hulu plus smoothly on it??

Same here. Selected desktop mode and I still get message that device is not supported. Was there something else you did?

Well, Hulu page loaded fine for me but I didn't try to play a video until now and I get the "platform not supported" when I try to play a video, so I guess it doesn't work after all.

On CM9 I can get the desktop version to load in chrome without android warning, but the video doesn't play. I installed flash, so thats not the problem. Wonder if its the hardware excel thats causing probs.
YouTube website works fine...

i just went to Hulu web site and KF is listed under supported devices..

I love these posts from new members that claim some app or site works on this device or that device, yet they don't post the link. Then they disappear from the thread.
I'm going to go start a new thread now, about how I found a hacked Netflix app that lets you watch anything without paying. Just don't hold your breath for a link.

It's the licensing
The way I understand it Hulu has license conflicts with some shows that preclude streaming them to a mobile device be it through their app or to an android or IOS based browser.
Those shows appear as "web only" in the Hulu+ favorites listing in the app.

True. Even on a ROKU, we get that message. The work around we use is Playon on our desktop computer. Hulu is accessed by the PC, so everything plays, then Playon shows up on the ROKU and streams Hulu (the regular free version of Hulu).
There is also a Playon app for Android, so you can watch Hulu on the Fire or any Android device. But no direct access to Hulu from KF afaik.

Ok, this I don't think will work on cm9, it may you'll have to try and report if it does. They were having an issue with flash in browser. So on miui, cm7, or maybe even rooted stock kindle. Here is the link

PlayOn is $5 a month, but if you pay a full year in advance ($40), it works out to something like $3.30 a month. Cheaper than Hulu Plus.
Plus, you get several other "channels". Of course, your computer has to be running while your streaming. I'm just mentioning it as another option.

[Solved] New Google Play .apk?

Just wondering since Google is updating the android market to a newer version that's all encompassing (music, apps, books, movies) called Google Play, if our rooted KF's are going to see the update OTA or if we'll need to sideload it? If sideloading will be the option, will it be the same as sideloading the current market .apk or will we need to employ new steps? Thx

My Kindle Fire (rooted CM9) got the OTA update and it removed my market app and added the play app in its place, i didnt even realize it till a couple of minutes ago lol

I got the "upgrade" the last time i opened the Market. Hadn't heard anything about it prior, so I was kinda freaked out. I didn't know what to do for a second.

Thanks for this, as I got totally screwed by Google on the update. I clicked "what's this?", my web browser opened up, and afterwards my Market icon was gone, as well as the upgrade process. To re-install Market requires a hard reset! Freaking Google. I hate not being in control of my own damn phone.

Go into the settings of your phone, then apps (all), then go to the market app.
Do a 'Clear Data' on the Market app.
Next time you start up your Market app you should have to agree to terms, and then the app will update to Google Play.

Nope, wasn't in the list! Totally gone. Good thing the .apk was there above, disguised as a .zip file. Installed fine.

So I was able to install the google play apk on my unrooted kindle fire and I can now browse the market, but the only thing is that it forces close when I try to download app updates or any new apps. Any ideas?

Installed Google Play on my Rooted Kindle fire, running Stock ROM, it had removed the 'MARKET' and added 'Play Store', i guess its the same thing? i dont know the difference? can anyone explain please?

They basically just renamed the app from Market to Google Play. Does the same things as before. This is not the first time it has been updated.
On my Rezound phone, I renamed it back to Market and changed the Icon back to the old icon.

I'm stuck in this very same loop. I can do everything but download an app or let it try to update an app I have installed. So far, I'm stumped.

Try clearing the cache and data for the app and see if that will help. That's worked for me in the past. Hope this helps.

I did clean data, reload old 3.4.4 market, after couple of minutes it got updated to google play and now all works like it use to.
I'm rooted on 6.3

Not a developer so take it easy. Was wondering if anyone can make a YouTube mod where music will keep playing even if you hit the power button. Thanks

There are apps on the market that do this. Not sure of the names off the top of my head right now, sadly, but they're on the Play Store.

I found it from the Omega ROM
This app let's you listen to videos with the screen off and even let's you download videos if you want. But for some reason, you may or may not be able to sign into your YouTube account.
You need to push this app to /system/app and change permissions to rw-r--r--, and then reboot. If you already have a YouTube app in /system/app then you will have to delete your current one (or just rename it). If your existing YouTube app was installed from the Play Store then this one should not conflict with it. This one has a blue icon.

I can't remember exactly where I found this apk. I believe it was from the GSii forums, as part of a custom ROM.

I tried it but I get a parsing error when trying to install. I'm trying this on one of the jelly bean ports so that could be why. I'll try placing in system and see if that helps

Oops, my mistake. You do indeed need to place it in /system/app/ to install. My above post should have the correct instructions now.
Also on JB, at least on the SDK port I'm using, the pre-installed Youtube app is installed in /system. That means you'll have to remove or rename it if you want to use the modified version I posted (unless someone knows of a way for them to coexist?). And for whatever reason, the YT app on the Play store is listed as incompatible with JB.

WWE Network

I saw that WWE Network App came out for the Amazon Fire TV, has anyone attempted to sideload that apk to the ouya?
Looks like its tied to the amazon app store app, it wont launch unless you have the amazon app store installed.
UPDATED Got it to work outside of the fire tv:
Modified the apk to work on other android devices. i belive it only works on 4.2 and above (Sorry Ouya stock people)

anyone? I have an android 4.4.2 box and this is basically the only app i care about that i cannot get to work, assuming the fire tv one would work flawlessly!

i modified the apk to play on other boxes but it needs android 4.2. so i cant test on the ouya (4.1) Will you be willing to test the apk for me? Link on the first post.

I actually have another post up on the amazon fire tv forums asking for an extraction and someone was kind enough to provide the apk for me, since i 'bought' the app on the web app store despite not hacing a device able to run it and also having the amazon app store on the device, i was able to run it. i did have lots of issues and while video technically works, i was not able to pause fast forward etc only go back here is the post:
So i was able to purchase/own the wwe network app from the online amazon store despite me not technically having a device it would run on, this box can also install the amazon app store no problem, though it obviously only sees the android wwe network app and not this one.. GOOD NEWS is that the app is working on my account! its def a bit wonky but i am hoping it is some stuff i can fix with some DPI xposed changes or something of the like, thanks so much very appreciated, and def works!!

So what exactly did u modify in the file? if it is to just get it to run, i have that already, if it is dpi changes or anything like that.. than it may be worht checking out!

this apk is modified so amazon app store isnt required. i havent tested is another box but it worked on my Samsung s5.

You were able to view other tabs besides home? Even on my HTC one m8 the homepage looks fine but the images dont load on the other tabs. Such as shows and schedule

I started to have this issue on my Tronsmart android tv box shortly before summerslam it stopped working and is still not, maybe there was an update to the app and i twas not updated here?

Today I looked at my Fire TV and look at that...
I can now Dload WWE app from AFTV store and use it.:good:
Have done nothing to my boxes.

I know this post is from 100 years ago, I'm trying to remove the amazon dependency from the APK but I'm having trouble figuring out how to remove the "check". Can you tell me what you changed in the APK so it will run without the Amazon app store being installed?

It would login and then never actually play the video. I ended up exporting the apk from my fire stick and side loading it to my android box. I also had to install the Amazon underground app in order for the apk to work.
