[Q] HD2 gets data but can't make or receive calls or sms - HD2 General

Hi guys,HTC tell me my beloved HD2 is now a brick, however it receives data even though it won't handle calls - so is the radio dead as HTC techies reckon?
If I try & make a call all I get are three 'dub dub dub's then nothing
The problem started after I had my number ported from Vodafone to T-mobile (UK) Trouble is I also flashed an Android ROM (Nexus fro XDA) at the same time so not sure which caused the problem.
Phone has always been unlocked
Checked APNs & so on, factory resets etc.
Tried different (Tesco) SIM same issue
Tried T Mob SIM in different phone OK
T-Mobile techies tell me IMEI is not blocked but can't come up with a solution
Flashed back to stock WM6.5 ROM from HTC site via SD card (previously tried USB) which I believe updates the radio as well? Bootloader tells me I'm on SPL 3.03 so everything should be back to factory settings Radio is 2.15 50.40
Could it be that Vodafone have somehow locked my phone in the porting?
What else can I do, please?

Ok you said your device is unlocked, do you mean SIM unlocked? Cause if it is not SIM unlocked this would be the reason for your issue. If it is SIM unlocked then either you have a faulty SIM card reader in your device, your SIM card is faulty, or the carrier has not done something right. Last thing I can come up with is that something could possibly be wrong with the internal antenna of your device. I will contemplate more on this and if I come up with something I will post back here in this thread.

Hi thanks, its SIM unlocked. Previous to changing carrier/flashing ROM (wish I'd done one at a time!) everything was fine SIM read OK, antenna must be OK as I can connect to internet.
Any further ideas appreciated, however!

Could be a bad unlock occurred but it is unusual.
reflashing rom maybe a good test option as will trying a few other sim cards/providers to rule out sim & network issues ...

Also when you did the SIM unlock were you using Windows Mobile or Android. You have to use Windows Mobile to SIM unlock the HD2 or it will not work.

This is not entirely true: there are android NAND ROMs that allow you to entry SIM-unlock code!
Edit: it seems it unlocks it temporarily until next reboot! I'll study that and post observations...

Yes it is entirely true, the SIM unlock is something the is done through the IPL. This means the OS has to be able to communicate with the IPL. When you are using Android neither cLK or MAGLDR can communicate with the IPL. The Android ROMs do have the SIM unlock feature but it will not work on the HD2, well it works bit it does not permanent and you have to do the unlock every time you reboot the device. This has been proven time and time again here. Take a few minutes to do some searching on this subject and you will see I am telling the truth. Better yet ask Samsamuel or MisterB andthey will tell you the same.

Ok, thanks...
I'll do my homework!

He speaks sooth, this has always been an issue.

not getting calls etc
Thanks everyone for the hints, took it into Vodafone shop, tried a spare sim & lo & behold we have calls; so it was locked to Vfone, I just happened to be on the Vfone network when I got the phone
Now I have to wait for Vfone to get unlock code from HTC - 5 days! That's modern communications for you!
Thanks again
Bill

O2 Xda ROM Update and SIM Unlock

I see these ?'s have been asked hundreds of times before, however my proble is a little different.
I have an O2 Xda from the UK that was on the O2 network.
I have moved to Australia and wish to use the device on the Telstra network, but the Xda has been network locked. As my device has an old ROM version i think i need to upgrade first, before running xdaunlock.exe.
Can anyone offer advise?
Cheers
:? :?
You have two possibilities to unlock your phone.
If you got an serial cable to attach your XDA you can use the xda manipulator to unlock it.
In the other case i would suggest you go to www.yorch.net, cook your own rom with the 3.17.03 Rom and use the xdaunlock tool....
HTH
Stefan
just do this simple thing... downlaod xda developers v1.2 and put your xda into the sync cradel with no sim or sd card in then follow it though.......
once done hard reset it....
then it will unlock your device when it starts up
then you can decide to stay on pc2002 or go to pc2003 as your device will not need to be unlocked again
I had a look at the xda-developers v1.2, it would appear my service provider is not on the list (Telstra) will this rom still work or will i have to find a ROM written for the Telstra network?
Cheers :?
the ROM has nothing to do with the operator. It's the RSU version that might not work with your new network. Just get your device unlocked and let's see if it receives the signal or not, then you may have to do RSU upgrade.
Unlock via XDAUnlock?
I have a TMO XDA with ROM4.01.00 and RS6.24.01. I'm selling it and need to unlock it for the buyer.
Is XDAUnlock the path to go?
if i'm not wrong, XDAunlock works only with ROMs with wmodem application and I'm not aware of any wm2003 that has it.
TMO 4.01.00 is available as exe upgrade. just flash your XDA with ROM 3.17 which will unlock your device then reflash back using TMO 4.01.00
good luck
SIM Unlocking
Thanks. Question on the SIM card. All this "unlocking" occurs with the sim card inside? Just to check:
1) With my sim inside, install Yorch's ROM3.17, when asked, unlock phone, finish install.
- Now this means the PDA phone has no phone service, correct? but PDA works?
2) Now install ROM4.01.00, RS6.24.01 with phone unlocked.
3) Remove sim card.
4) Ship to new owner
5) New owner inserts their sim card. Now what? They call their carrier with IMEI #?
Thanks
No, when you put the 3.17 ROM, the phone part should continue working as long as you don't touch the RSU. The SIM has nothing to do with all this stuff. All the locking info is within the GSM firm ware of your device. I would prefer to remove the SIM while flashing the ROM.
If your locked device works now with your SIM, it will definitly work after unlocking BUT it is not a good prove that it's really unlocked. You have to test it with another SIM before shiping to the buyer.
PS: no matter your dial or IMEI is, GSM system deals with a unique identifier for the SIM which called MSISDN. So, don't worry about the buyer

I never realized you could operate the unit without a sim card inside. I guess I'll have to try it and learn along the way. It seems removing the sim card forces a hard reset.
If all the locking info is in the GSM firmware and Yorch 3.17 ROM upgrade doesn't touch the RSU, how does the XDAUnlock operate then?

During the unlock, the 3.17.03 set the phone to a model PW10A. My phone is a PW10B (USA). None of the .exe upgrade software will upgrade unit as they think it's the wrong band. I tried the Bootloader 5.15 - calendar and set the GSM to 900/1800 but model doesn't change in the identify screen. The sim has not been in the phone this whole time.
How do I change the model back to PW10B?
Fixed Wrong Band Problem
I put a ROM 4.0x.xx.nb1 file onto my SD card and using Wallaby Bootloader, flashed the unit's ROM. This appeared to have put the model back to PW10B1. Then I used the ROM4.01.00.exe to finalize the WM2003 upgrade. Phone is sim unlocked. Question:
when does phone become sim unlocked again? i.e. if I was to put my sim back in the phone, and connect to TMO, would that then lock the phone to TMO? Or once it's unlocked, it's unlocked for life? Just curious.
Typo
Should read, "when does phone get sim locked again", not sim unlocked.

unknown sim error

Hi,
I have a locked Spanish xperia x2. Following the suse update procedure reported in the forum I managed to load the GENERIC_UK_R3AA035_CABS.rar. After alla the cab installation the langauage is finally English but X2 gives me “unknown sim error”. What I am missing? thank and regards
andrea
Does the sim card work in a different phone?
Can you get a replacement sim card?
I remember that I had some issues with my phone one morning and I happened to walk by an official T-Mobil store while in downtown Chicago. It turned out that a number of specific, older, sim cards did not work due to an update on the network. So the T-Mobil guy just copied my sim to a new one and i was on my way with a working sim/phone.
One small point to know: I had the sim card for about 8 years. It was still Voice Stream (now T-Mobil). So it was a really old sim.
I have 2 new sim card working perfectly in my old X1. For none of them I have to insert pin code in X1.
In X2 I insert the pin code and then receive the error message. May this be due to the fact X2 was locked?
But shouldn't have been the loading I did of
GENERIC_UK_R3AA035_CABS.rar.
unlocking it?
what am I missing?
to unlock my X2 is GENERIC_UK_R3AA035_CABS.rar enough or should I purchase on the net an unlocking code?
thanks
no, you have done everything right so far. now just do the sues upgrade again and it'll boot the english rom (based on what cabs you downloaded on your phone) and your phone should be working fine. tell me how everything turns out. and good luck

Flashing a different language/rom has NOTHING to do with the fact that your phone is SIM LOCKED. And it will stay sim locked until SIM is UNLOCKED. But not with flashing a language or rom or anything via SEUS.

please help i am desperate

i bought a t-mobile hd2, it is unlocked since it doesn't ask for a code, if i insert sim card it gets freeze every couple of minutes i tried to flash new rom change radio spl, nothing worked. only if i take the sim out it works like charm but the moment i put the sim in i freezes, i tried different sim same problem ? i did search cant solve my problem
If it's your SIM card, just take it into T-mobile, they'll replace it free & quick. But make sure you have the stock rom on it when you take it in or it will void any warranty.
If it's your microSD card try formatting it to your phone. If that doesn't work it's probably corrupt. Not sure if it's covered or not.
Sorry I couldn't be of much more help, but I'm sure one of these brilliant minds on here can help more.

It didn't ask for a code? so you aren't with T-mobile then I'm guessing..
You might wanna try a hard-reset, and if there's an SD card in there try taking it out.

Simlock problems - i guess

Hello,
i use an htc hd2 with "HD2_NDT_MIUI_GINGER_2.3.7_DEVELOPMENT_V46.0_MAGLDR" and i love it, now i changed my contract Vodafone DE to Telekom DE ... my new contract dont work on the hd2, i gues there is an Simlock on the HD2 ?! Is it possible to get the card running ?
The Support means i need a Telekom Handy for it - but REALY !?
My Vodafone Card runs perfect -.-
I read in some other Threat that die Simlock get unlocked with changing to Android ... but not my !?
Please help me if you get what i mean
No kind of flashing will ever unlock the simlock.
Only two ways to unlock sim on hd2,, get a code from the original network operator, or buy a code online.
you must enter the code using winmo 6.5, otherwise the code wont work.
Okay, but is it sure that it is an Simlock ?
How can i test it ?
I read some other threats that i need to insert an other code after the PIN when its Simlocked ?!
I dont need to do this atm with the Vodafone D2 DE Card.
Or is my case the typical Simlock problem ?
okay, as much i read as much questions i got - CID-Lock >_<
Is it possible that it is CID-Locked ?
OMFG this get a long night -.-
simlock, Cid (carrier ID) lock, network lock,, allmost the same thing,,, if a phone is cid locked, it can only flash roms from that carrier (easily bypassed by hspl) but it also means its locked to that carriers network, (not bypassed by hspl)and only way to unlock that is get a code from the original carrier or buy a code.
Once it is unlocked, it will still (and always will) be Cid locked to voda roms.(again not a problem, since hspl bypasses it)
Assuming its from voda, you should ask them first,,, however if you no longer have a contract with them they probably will say no,, also they can take a while to give you the code. 28 days for many operators,,, took o2 UK six months to unlock mine in 2010!!
Save yourself.hours of fruitless searching and spend the 15€ and buy a code online. Lots of threads here about various sites selling codes.
AHHH okay - thx.
I found an link how to open it with out any costs ... but do you think its secure ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359413 ? (sorry its on german)
To use the code - i need to go back to WM6.5 so i will beginn with this ^_^
That thread is about flashing a different phone, and I promise you there's no flashing that will unlock the hd2.
Just cos one phone can be unlocked by flashing means nothing. I once had a phone that was unlocked by putting the sim only half way in and typing a certain code,, doesn't work on any other phone.
i dont want to buy a new plastic phone i love the hd2 ...
I found the site: http://www.htc-unlocker.org
If i buy me a code there - where i need to enter it ?! I dont find any answeres on there Page ... :-/
Dont want to waste money ...
-.- i dont know how to thank you - its really cool that you help a noob like me!
To enter the code you must flash back to winmo, and when you boot with the sim in it will ask for the code.
Ah okay, that seams really easy !? :-S
So i will spent the money on http://www.htc-unlocker.org/ :-/ but first i wait for the question ^_^
Args - such a stress ... i sent the phone two times back to the carrier cause i thought something is broken >_<
Ok now it get scarry!
I installed the Original WM6.5 rom of my Carrier and i can use my new Card from the other carrier without any problems -.- HELLO that makes no sense!!!
When i install Android i cant use it -.- and no there was no question
Edit:
Now the Connection droped and i cant log in again... but still no question for any code ...
So it dont ask for the Code - did it mean it is not Simlocked ?
The CID-Lock and Branding get disabled with HSPL and Android is it truth ?
So where is my Problem
It work with the original Carrier Card ... no problems ...
The New card dont work and the Device dont ask for the code ... with installed Android it still dont work
OMFG i hate problems i cant solve ...

hmm, and the new card works on other phones? does teh hd2 give yo a 'no sim inserted' error? does it show any signs that it knows theres a sim card in there?
Yeh, okay iti s still there, but when it is bypassed does it still harm other cards ?
Yes, it is a brand new card, i thought the old was broken ^^ and toked a new - it works on my nokia 6510i *oldy but goldi*
And yes it accepts the card, sometimes i get network - can call, send sms and so, but then i get droped and nothing works ... :-/ mostly when i reboot it - it work for some minutes and then it drops.... and need 20 min to reconnect ...

...........................
it has no effect, the CID only prevents roms being flashed, once hspl is installed it does nothing, just sits there. CID and network lock go hand in hand, but they are seperate things. On my o2 locked hd2, i could flash roms using hspl, no probs, but it was still locked to the o2 network. Any other sim just gave teh unlock screen at boot. When i got my unlock code, i can now use any sim, but the CID is still there, without hspl i can only flash o2 roms.

ahhhhh well its not network locked then, we were barking up the wrong tree.
So the first thing id advise doing is, since your original sim works, trying a third sim, a different network to the other two if possible.
That will tell you if its the phone, that particular sim, or the network itself.
next step if it looks like a phone fault is go back to winmo. Get a stock rom on there (remember 3.14 roms MUST have 3.03.hspl or 3.03.0000 or they will run REALLY badly,,,,,((you aren't running a 3.14 rom on 2.08.hspl by any chance?)) and try all three sims again,
Other things it could be, , setting '3g only' turned on? in which case it wont connect if your signal is only strong enough for 2g, , , broken sim contacts ( not very common, but has been posted here before), , , age of the phone? they go bad, there are myriad threads where a phone is chugging along nicely then fails for no reason.
Okay, so we can say, CID-Lock // Network-Lock isnt the Problem.
I try an O2 / Eplus card - if i found one, need to ask around ...
My Phone is back to Winmob 6.5 (Vodafone Branding) and spl 3.03.0000
The combination of the Winmo vers, and the spl fits.
I use "ROM Version 3.14.162.5 Maintenance Release" with spl 3.03.0000 flashed through EasyAndroid toolkit(spl flash).
-.- broken contacs - my phone is empty atm ^_^
I tooked my Break for visiting the Vodafone Store ...
The Salesman told me, the device normaly got not Locks - just a Image Branding...
So he said it must be broken, something is not working correct ...
No he offers me to sent it back for fixing ... but again 2 weeks waiting -.-
ahh well, could be worse, most people no longer have any warranty, so you're lucky, lol.

You got me curious. I too have simlocked HD2 that i wish to unlock soon. Now I have android on it, and when i put my card in it, it shows the same prompt as in WinMo 6.5 (Enter the unlocking code), so i was sure everything is same as on WinMo. I was ready to purchase such code, until i stumbled upon your post. You say that even if i buy one, it won't work now? Thats a bugger...
it will work, but you will have to flash back to winmo to enter it. android will let you enter it, but it wont stick (its not an android phone, android doesnt have such low level access to the system)
Its easy, tho, ,
cwm full backup
flash stock rom
enter the code
reflash magldr/cwm
restore backup.
Take ya half an hour if you know what you're doing, an hour if you dont.
Okay, thank You very much. I won't cry, lately i had to reflash and restore everything after i played with ROM manager app, which killed my CWM So that's something i already mastered.
It's just that You saved me fruitless hours of trying to unlock while on android.
Cheers

[Q] HTC HD2 can't send SMS or call a number

Hello,
I live in The Netherlands, and my mobile operator is Tele2. I installed Android 2.3.7 on my HTC HD2, with Radio Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14.
But I can't send an SMS, or call a number, becasuse the network is not available. The network is also not available on Windows Mobile 6.5.
Which Radio ROM does work the best with Tele2 (The Netherlands). Or is there another solution for this problem?
Is HD2 network locked or have hardware issue ?
I would do clean install of generic WM6.5 from links in the HD2 Wiki .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_HD2#Official_ROMs_.26_Radios
If get it working on that then move to another platform.
I flashed some Radio ROMS, but they all don't solve the problem. I already flashed the stock Windows Mobile 6.5 OS, and also that doesn't work.
Borrow a sim from someone and see if it works
I tried it with my own Tele2 SIM card, and with a Vodafone SIM card, both don't work.
Did you recently buy the phone?
Or is it your old phone which worked and when you tried android it stopped working?
I recently purchased the phone from someone. He said it was working. When I got the phone, I flashed a new Radio ROM and Windows Phone 7, and did not check if my SIM card was working with Windows Mobile and the original Radio ROM. Now, I flashed Windows Mobile 6.5, but it is not working. Also Android doesn't work. I tried most of the Radio ROMS.
@Mister B will know more than I about this, but I think it is locked to a specific carrier, eg O2
Just to be sure, is it EU model (white call & end call buttons) or tmous model (green and red)?
The phone has white call & end call buttons, so it is the EU model. The previous owner did not know if it was locked to a specific carrier, because his SIM card just worked with the phone. How can I get to know if it is locked to a specific carrier?
I would have thought flashing hspl would have done it, and you have already done that to get wp7 on it previously.
Not sure
I flashed 2.08.HSPL on the phone with HSPL4, to get Windows Phone 7 and Android running.
I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28342560&highlight=carrier+locked#post28342560
in which Mister B mentions that the phone might be blocked due to an unpaid bill or stolen. Worth a read for you possibly.
Where did you get it from?
I don't think that's the case. I thought the problem was the Radio ROM, maybe I need to get a Radio ROM which works with Tele2 (Carrier)? If yes, I don't know which ROM.
I got the phone from a Dutch site where you can buy and sell things. And the previous owner used the phone with Vodafone.
Does the device actually know a sim is inserted or does it always show as no sim present ?
Showing as no sim present would be good indication of hardware problem.
If sim locked or blocked IMEI it will show sim present.
As such any of the main HD2 radios will be fine with your network & would allow full radio function if all else good.
I always fault find on original HD2 WM6.5 or a trusted WM6.5.x custom rom.
Dead sim reading is not that uncommon & can be mainboard issue or even the sim holder so worth looking at sim holder a little.
Most of the used HD2's sold online are faulty mainly due to amateur repairs so good chance that the case here.
There is a SIM inserted, because I need to enter a PIN code for the SIM. But I when I try to send an SMS, it says the network is not available. I get that message with Windows Mobile and with Android.
Does your sim work on another phone?
Yes, the SIM works on another phone.
I would say then it either network sim locked or IMEI blocked or radio hardware issue on mainboard.
Worth gong into phone settings & checking radio bands & try manual connection to varying networks.
Ideally want try all this on generic WM6.5 & reflash radio after rom flash (try radio n my signature)
You could also try an unlock by cable at local shop !
After that you stuck really ...
