Just found out i am going to get lucky this year and get a tablet for xmas.
one of my options are the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
what i would like to do is get some input from people who already have them. Would you stick with the 10.1, Go with the EEE transformer prime when it comes out on Dec. 19th, or go with an IPAD2?
i have the Galaxy S phone, and i'm loving it, i have the superclean Gingerbread on it, and it just works. My gut is saying i should just go with the EEE prime, but if a lot of you would never part with your galaxy tab 10.1 because it is higher quality over the EEE, i might get that instead. do you have any issues with the 10.1? if so what are they?

if you love your phone get a android tablet. that knocks out the ipad2(which is good because apple sucks and you want control over your device)
the tab is a great tablet but if you have a choice in free tablets for xmas get the new prime. that tablet is like the next generation of tablets.
If you're going to get an Android tablet this year, get the Prime. It's the first second-gen tablet that's been released and is significantly more powerful than the G-Tab. So far, the shortcomings of it are: 1) QC issues which also effected the first Transformer, 2) Wi-Fi only supports 2.4GHz, and 3) the speakers are mono and on one side of the device. Good luck trying to get one. The pre-order process turned in to a cluster f- and all the major retailers are now saying at least after X-Mas and most likely in January. Read the posts in the Prime forum.
As for iOS vs. Android, that's a personal decision. Apple's dropped the price of refurbs and you can pick up a 32GB for $499. New casing, new battery, same one year warranty.
Yeah, after looking at some of the threads in the prime forum, looks like the galaxy tab 10.1 is my only choice if i'm going to get it for xmas.

Both. Samsung's announced ICS officially in Q1 and the devs, including CM, are working on a build. The Tab's got to represent Samsung until March or April when a next-gen is released so it wouldn't surprise me if it's one of the first tablets to get ICS in order to extend its selling life. And since Samsung was Google's launch partner for ICS with the GN they're way ahead of everyone else when it comes to working with the OS.
Don't be disappointed in getting a Tab. It's got the best display by far, great build quality, and Samsung's always the best when it comes to audio and video codecs. If you look at benchmarks the Tab outperformed all other Teg2 based tablets. I don't know where you source your music but the Tab is the only one that supports Rhapsody's DRM via MTP. With a subscription, you can download thousands of songs to play locally when you're not connected to Wi-Fi. And check out Plex and PlayOn for streaming.
P.S. - Get it at Costco. They have a 90 day return policy so if something better comes along you can always return it.

I love my 10.1... I sometimes get lost just looking how pretty stuff looks on that screen... Just perfect.
Running stock 3.2 (Grabbed from here) and rooted, that's it. No fancy custom roms or kernel.
There is one thing you DO need and that's the touchscreentune app from the market and that needs root (WHich is pretty easy to do). It will cost you 5 bucks but it will make a world of difference for your tablet. Samsung, for reasons unknown, decided that you must have around 1 second "lag" before the touchscreen respond to your touch. With this app and it's default setting, it will react instantly and just makes the tablet feel so much better.
Ohh yeah, and the 10.1 has stereo speakers which do a pretty decent job, if you ask me. Great for youtube and the odd tv show.
Don't own any apple products, but if you like slow and smooth UI animations, I would go with that, since people complain that they don't have to wait half a second for a "smooth" animation for finish on Android.
My wife has a iPhone 4, I tried sending a picture on it, by Email. I picked the picture, then I had to wait for it to be "smoothly" animated into my email... Instead of just putting it my email and let's get to the sending part. If you fancy that sort of thing, get the iPad.

The ipad just works, it has better accessories, better games and a hell of a lot less lag. I also didn't have to root it, flash custom roms and mods to make me satisfied with how it worked.
Sure it doesn't have flash but it seems like android can't play any flash videos that smoothly anyways, but different strokes for different folks.
I love my Samsung vibrant for its customizability but I believe ios is better for tablets.
Oh and I have not yet used or heard much about the transformer prime but it seems better spec'd

I am the exact opposite ...... I sold my iPad2 on craigslist and bought the Galaxy Tab 10.1..
IMHO the iPad is overrated and is very limited..... iPad's are for people who want simplistic and ease of use .... Android and the Tab is for people who want options.... I quickly grew very tired and bored with the rather bland iPad and iOS....
You description / understanding of rooting is different from mine.. I don't look at it as a need to do thing, I look at it as a way to improve my user experience... Perhaps I am doing something wrong with my Tab because I never had any lag issues on my Tab... And I believe 3.2 solved the perceived lag issues... I am on Task's 8.0 ROM and it ROCKS!
A jailbroken iPad2 still has less customization options than a stock un-rooted Tab... Root the Tab and bam! Customization galore..... Every iPad out there looks exactly the same.. Bland and dry.... Other than different wallpapers, every iPad looks exactly the same...
To boot, 512MB RAM... Really?????? It is 2011 is it not?

I love android, I love my s2. I loved my galaxy tab p1000. However 10.1 and Xoom suck because of a very very slow os despite upgrade to 3.2. Ipad2 is super fast. I prefer android with gingerbread and will buy a ics tablet but honeycomb is too slow.
This thread is funny... iPad faster? Perhaps a split second but the trade off is a very very limited OS...I will take Android and the blink of an eye slower (not even noticeable to me) for my widgets and customization options...

Nope. I have used Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with HC 3.2 And the Ipad 2 is several times as fast and several times smoother. Whether it is just scrolling through apps or browsing on the internet.
IMO for a person who is used to Gingerbread on a S2 or Ipad/2/Ios, HC is not usable on a Dual Core. It is like running Windows 7 on a Pentium 3 1GHz.
ICS will probably be different and will probably be faster or as fast as GC.
So I would recommend buying an Ipad 2 right now and upgrading to ICS in a few months!
I've been drinking the Apple Kool-Aid since 1985 with the FatMac 512K. I'm an old geek in the IT world, and have owned more computers than many young 'uns have ever touched.
I've never paid full price for any computer, other than Macintoshes, however. And, for the most part, the quality and integration has been worth the premium.
However, I have several friends with iPads, and though they make nice remote controls for the AppleTV, and good book readers, IMHO there is no justification for the ridiculous prices that they command.
I feel that the Galaxy Tab with Task's ROM version 8 is the iPad's equal in usability, its superior in customizability, and kills it in value per dollar.
The display is a higher resolution, finer dot pitch, in 16:10 for movies (closer than the iPad's 4:3), etc. i typically love Apple's products, and can see the added value. However, I'd never pay more than $300 for an iPad. And I have no buyer's remorse at the $325 for my Galaxy Tab. Plus another $10 to Task650 in thanks.

You must have used a magical iPad and a defective Tab.... While I agree the iPad is a tad faster and smoother, I would not exaggerate the difference at the cost of credibility......

I am selling my Galaxy Tab 7.7.
1. Its a little too big to fit nicely in my pockets (that extra .7 was the difference as the original Tab 7 fit better.
2. There is very little development going on for the 7.7
3. I have the international version bought off of Negri that does not have an IR blaster. This was actually a big selling point for me as I have a smart home system that is compatible with this.
I am going to switch to the Galaxy Note.
1. It will fit nicely in my pocket.
2. There are already several ICS Roms available for it.
3. No IR Blaster :-(
My question is how much is the International 7.7 selling for? More importantly what carriers is it compatible with? That is the most important question which carriers can use the 7.7 that I bought off of Negri?

I also have both, and if someone made me choose I'd lean towards keeping the Note over the 7.7. But, that's mainly because I have a new iPad at home.

The Galaxy Note is perfect for those people who just want or can only afford one device. The combination of the large high resolution screen and S-Pen allows it to work well as Tablet and it is portable enough to be used as a mobile phone. If I had to choose between the Note and 7.7 for my only device then I would get the Note.
I bought both and returned the note
This topic caught my eye as just today I returned the note after using it only for a week. I have had the galaxy tab 7.7 for 2 months now. I have the galaxy nexus as my phone.
The reason I decided to purchase the galaxy note:
1) Note taking
2) More portable yet bigger screen than most phones
What I liked during my trial:
1) Ability to write out my notes in the pen memo app
2) More portable than any other tablet
3) Display was quite good (yet not without fault, see below).
4) It was super fast in use. Apps seemed to install and launch much faster than any android device I have ever owned. The browser was silky smooth (apparently stick browser was optimized by samsung). No stutter or lag anywhere. Even with the same CPU, GPU and RAM specs galaxy tab 7.7 feels slower by a bit for the same tasks (due to honeycomb).
The reason I decided to return the galaxy note:
1) Black wallpaper when viewed in dark shows grey banding. This ruins the perception of the Super AMOLED display which is supposed to especially shine for black color due to infinite contrast. This has been widely reported. However I won't say that just this reason should sway you away from it, as the display otherwise is on par with the galaxy tab 7.7 although slightly less bright.
Galaxy tab 7.7 doesn't have this issue.
2) Galaxy note screen is big but not that much bigger than my galaxy nexus screen (5.3" vs. 4.65"). Screen feels small when compared to other tablets. Can't install tablet format of apps, so that negates the slightly larger screen.(There are ROMs available to make it act like a tablet, but you end up with faulty pen support and really small icons).
3) The micro-SD card slot access requires you to take out the battery. Galaxy tab 7.7 has an exposed slot which is very convenient.
I used galaxy note as a tablet (no SIM card) and decided that it didn't offer much beyond what my galaxy nexus already did screen space and app-wise although the pen functionality was extremely appealing. The smoothness and maturity of ICS was lacking and I didn't want to even risk losing the pen functionality by installing some custom ROMs.
Hope this helps with your decision.

I have an iPad as well which is my primary tablet. The Note is going to be my primary phone.
I've had both the 7.7 and Note (both International versions before their US counterparts were released).
I long for the day Samsung and VZW reach a deal on the Note or Note2.
I used straight talk for my Int'l Note and it was good, but I missed 4G speeds.
The thing I find with all my devices is I like development. I really should learn how b/c if a device doesn't have development I get bored quickly.
My razr is amazing so far even with it's locked bootloaders, but OMG the dev work on the Note is second to none it seems. (At least for the international version).
The Note, the longer I haven't had it the more I miss it. It was speedy, great support/development, and could double up as both a phone and tablet.
The 7.7 I haven't missed one bit since I sold it. It was a 6810 (wi-fi) and virtually no development going on at all for the 7.7, especially the wi-fi version. Verzion will be cancelling the grandfathered unlimitted plans. The only way you will b e ablet to keep it is if you pay full price for all your phone upgrades or stay with the phone you currently have.

Galaxy tab 7 fits in back pockets while 7.7 dont... but i just think im not putting that in my pockets... that tab is really good! I love it.
Well as 99% of you know the SIII has been launched, with a whole host of software features.
What are the chances of us getting some of these features? A couple that appeal to me are the Music Hub (newer less usless version) and the new dongle that mirror to the TV.
It'd be great to get these features.
(Could this be the reason ICS got delayed?)
We gets the hubs for music, movies and the others.
Faceunlock but if u close your eyes and the screen goes off this feature is only for sgs3 and the videofrature too.

I would like to see the improved camera software for our Note, such as faster shutter speed (current speed annoys me compared to my SGS1 Epic 4G which has a super fast shutter) and 3.3 second between shots.
I'm very interested in the AllShare Cast wireless streaming dongle.
I can't see any reason it wouldn't be offered for the Note, or any modern Samsung device for that matter.

Well, if we do get it (and im sure eventually in time it will be), the only thing that I'm pretty sure we won't ever get is NFC... (this is after all the International Note version thread), this needs the hardware part... which I'm pretty sure our Note lacks the better part of it as well.
I feel like a good chunk if not almost all of these features could be ported to our Notes. Seeing as they've said that the quad core Exynos is supposed to be pin for pin identical to the dual cores in the fact that they can be changed out without having to alter your design I'd have to think the whole setup is similar, but I'm just guessing. The biggest thing I've been wondering about is with the whole zero shutter lag. Is it possible to port or give our older phones this ability? I don't know if new hardware is physically required or if it's all software? If my Note could have zero shutter lag, or even much faster shutter speeds and ICS. I'm perfectly happy without the SIII.

Whilst I'm not a fan of threads such as this (prefer waiting), you are likely on the money. With 3 million Notes sold and S3 launch, you don't want to steal the new arrivals thunder!
Nexus S ICS was on Google Employees handsets for ages before publically released as Google needed to get units of Galaxy Nexus shifted.
Any timeframe extension the inhouse devs might have been given to allow for the launch of the S3 (in developing ICS mainstream Samsung build, Note extras and other device specific extras for say S2 for example) can only be a good thing.

You stole the words right out of my mouth.
I personally feel that most of the features should be able to get ported, especially the new TouchWiz Launcher Nature UX. Its essentially got the ICS stock feel with a Widget tab while allowing transparency.
I am hoping to get the ROM ported with features from the note, mainly SMemo stuff over to the note, that would be a delight.

I am not really impressed with the SIII, I am not saying it's bad rather it's awesome and I would have wanted it on day one had I not had my GNote. 4.8 is still small and it feels awkward saying that.
Coming to your question, who knows it might all be the ICS Update, if not then in Note II definitely.

This is what i posted in the main ICS thread & this is what I feel..
I think Galaxy note will get ICS updates inline with Galaxy S2 with the addition of premium suite. Both of them are previous years's model.
Galaxy note 2 & Galaxy S3 will have same feature set.
From business point of view if Galaxy note gets the features then Galaxy note 2 will be only a hardware upgrade. Well that wouldnt create the hype would it ?
Regarding porting to our note our devs will certainly turn the magic wheels....
I am leaning towards the PORT and not a Samsung Supported update due to the same reason of Productization and ensuring that the customer can differentiate between the Note and the SGS III, otherwise the Note will win with the features and screen size, but lacking the Quad Core.
I also feel with a complete ICS build running on the Note it probably won't be that much slower than the GSIII despite dual vs. quad. Heck people said it's the same GPU just overclocked right? As for Note 2 I wouldn't be surprised if they introduce some new features. Maybe HD SuperAMOLED+? Wasn't the Note the first Samsung phone to have the HD Screen, GLONASS, S-Pen, etc?
As for some of the new features my Droid Charge which is basically just Galaxy S hardware has the newer launcher, widgets, and some of the features from the Galaxy SII. So I think we could see stuff brought to our Note!!

I have the Galaxy Tab2 P3100 ( http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_tab_2_7_0_p3100-4543.php ). I have CM10 on tablet and all is fine (except the fact that I don't have a LED FLASH), but somehow I miss the Super AMOLED from my other previous Samsung products.
The only problem at this point for getting the new tablet - the P6800 (in fact the old one, because P3100 is newer ) is that I don't know anything about this product, I don't know about it's problems and I don't know if this would be a good deal for me and for that I would like your opinion.
For the moment, I saw that it's a problem with the wifi connection on P6800. Any problems with the screen, with the colors maybe?
If you would be in my position, what would you do?
For now:
P3100
- I have official releases for CM10
- no major problems of functionality
P6800
-LED Flash
-a bigger screen than P3100
-SAMOLED screen

Things got even better after upgrading to ICS. At first I had that annoying wifi issue many people where talking about, But I just did these steps and the issue is gone.

thers is no problem with the colors of this screen (try a colorful anime on it and you will be surprised how beautiful the screen is), we might have problems after a while because of the nature of amoled screens (organic) but it doesn't mean that lcd tabs are immortal (if the screen still works on lcd tab, it will be eating dust in your room because of your new upcoming device).
as for performance, the older has better processor and much better graphic chip, and much much better screen, then finally, much much much better build quality.

I have 7.7 but I advice you with 7 duo to Samsung support to the 7 and lack for the 7.7 as no ics for all countries and mostly no JB as well.

Honestly, I wouldn't even consider buying the Tab 2 7" the hardware specs are much lower than the 7.7. The 7.7 has a better screen with amoled and HD resolution, faster processor, better gpu, better battery life and the list goes on. As for updates, alot of the 7.7s have ICS already, and really the 7.7 isn't in need of JB.
If you only require your tablet for reading, browsing and light gaming consider the Tab 2 7" to save yourself some money.

Since you use CM10 (and I believe you wouldn't want to go back to Samsung ROMs), you can forget the WiFi issues. Using Sammy ICS I wasn't able to stay connected to my work wireless for 5 minutes, then I'd need to perform a lot of ritual reboots to get it to work again.
We don't have official CM support (because the Exynos is a pain in the *ss to work with), but locerra and aorth managed to "tame" the beast on tablets. We have perfectly functional CM10 on the 7.7 (and on the Tab Plus, which has almost the same hardware), and at least one other AOSP ROM that gets regularly updated (ParanoidAndroid, which has more frequent updates than locerra's CM10 so it follows the CM10 features more closely).
I'd advise you to lurk around the CM10 and ParanoidAndroid threads. See if the current level of support is enough. It will not be the same as the "easy-mode" OMAP-based Tab 2, but IMHO all the hardware advantages of the 7.7 outweight the better CM support you'd have on the Tab 2.
I think it's pretty much just preference.
I am a Note II owner and love the phone. Then I really felt like buying an Android tablet. I went and got me Asus Transformer Infinity yesterday & boy Do I regret!! I just put an ad to sell it 100$ off price just to get rid of it & get a Note 10.1 !
Here's what pissed me off. Its a ***** to get the bootloader unlocked. You gotta use Asus unlocker tool & their servers dont respond. its been 48 hrs almost and still no luck.
Theres like only 1 or 2 costume roms available for it and for that this needs to be unlocked.
What pissed me off most that it had only 1gig ram. I thought since it was pricier then a Note 10.1 then its probably at least the same specs.
And damn is it laggy! I guess it could be the ICS' fault and that the JB for it will be smoother but right now it cant be compared to smoothnes of my Note phone at all!
The charger connector is also not standard mini usb which sux and the keyboard for it is too pricey!
One thing I was really looking for was to play Tegra 3 games on it & of the 5 games I tried only 1 was not buggy!
anyways... from what Ive seen from the Note 10.1 dev forum it looks just as promising as my NoteII.
so if anyone here thinks I am making a mistake or something I missed plz let me know.
donno why I even bothered buying this. I was so happy with my Note2. It would have been logical to get another galaxy product!
It was an expensive lesson I even ordered a screen protector for it which costs 30bux inc shipping!
I think you're making the right decision, but....
You should know that the Note 10.1 also doesn't use a mini-usb plug. It's also proprietary.
Don't waste your money.
The Note 10.1 didn't have ANY ROMs out when I bought mine,
and technically there still isn't any official JB for my N8013.
I would wait.
The Note 10.1 is not perfect, no tab is. Based on your post,
you seem to be a hasty kinda buyer cuz you seem to not
research your purchases beforehand. Keep in mind:
The Note 10.1 also has a proprietary non-standard charger/connector.
The few available docks if you want one are rare and pricey as well.
The TF700 has a far better display (by ppi)
The Note 10.1 is not tegra 3 but exynos quad.
Samsung is NOTORIOUS for taking forever to push updates

That's a bit of an overstatement?
No one is saying the Note 10.1 is perfect.
Well, about the lag, the Note 10.1 doesn't lag at all - yes, I'm not saying this just because I own one, it's because it doesn't lag at all.
It's fast and fluid, and with the correct use, it will blaze at an amazing speed.
It has already many custom ROM's available and it's hack-friendly. Samsung releases the open-source very often for their devices.
Oh, and about the updates, Samsung was actually quick to bring in Jelly Bean. It makes your Note 10.1 be twice as fast (in some cases).
You can also have a plethora of keyboards (non-OEM) that are cheap, and some even turn to be covers as well.
All in all, it's a pretty nice buy, but if the non-standard charger/connector is a no-GO, then it's a don't buy this. This tab uses the proprietary connector.

+1 on that add also the multiwindow option /svoice /airview /front stereo speakers and n8000 model can do gsm calls and allot more, i used note II for like a week before buying note 10.1 and personally i think spen on 10.1 is some what more senstive and more ergonomic, something to note also the spen can work as a mouse in web browser to review links, etc and scroll

I got my Note last Friday and can say that I love it. The quad core and 2GB of RAM keeps it fast and responsive, something I can't say about my first gen Android tablet that this replaces. I'''ll upgrade my Android phone next year once I see which LTE may come to my area; however, I know it will have similar specs to the Note.

I'm done with ASUS, too...
TF700 has a superb display, and thats about it...mine was laggy,too. OTA wouldn't work, so i did an unlock using ASUS's unlock-tool, tried to update with TWRP and downloaded update.zip - would't work either but kept the tablet in a bootloop. ASUS of course refuses warranty because unlock, tries to charge me repaircosts 90% of a brandnew device - come on guys, kidding??? Sold the keyboard, bought the note 8010, fast and smooth with root and Team Union Jelly Bean...an expensive lesson for me, too...
I'm not bashing the Note. I have the phone and the tab as well and love both.
I'm commenting on the op's qualms about the choice he made, which he regrets.
All I'm saying is the op obviously didn't do any research before buying. Some of the
stuff he hates about the Asus TF are also present with the Note. Which means he
is still making the same mistake of not researching.
The reason I said he should keep it is cuz he seems to be guilt-tripping over a perfectly
good purchase. That and he's going to sell his perfectly good tab and be out $100 bucks
because of it.
And you're making a point of there being cheaper docks for the Note 10.1.
Cheaper dock options are also available for the TF700.
And no, the note does NOT have LOTS of ROMs but dev is heading there. On that subject
I was saying that if he waits, dev will get better for the TF.There are ~20 custom ROMs
on xda for the TF700 and less than ten for the Note 10.1. Two or three for the WiFi only devices.
I still also maintain that Samsung drags its feet when it comes to updates.
The TF had JB since October. As of writing this there still is no JB for the N8013, no
leak, no official. Asus is in fact known for their frequent updates.
The tab has quality control issues as I well. I had to return the first one I bought since
the screen was defective. If you read up, this very forum will confirm that I was not alone
in this. Some report lag with the software. Asus is well known for having poor quality
control though.
With all that said, I considered both tabs when buying, did my research and bought the
Note. I love the one I have now and don't regret it at all. It is amazingly good despite any reviews
saying this or that is better.
I've had both and the Note is a better choice (for me at least). A lot less lag and more options. I have the OG note for my phone and have it running stock android. I much prefer touchwiz on the 10.1. Multi window is awesome and I actually use the IR blaster a lot more than I thought I would. Lots of cool features that vanilla android doesn't offer. I vote Note

Since the Note and N10 have come out the TF700 forum has become a ghost town. Picture tumbleweed. Scott Crossler, the magician who made the TF700 usable, is no longer supporting it. Others are trying to keep up his work but picture "Otto Pilot" from the movie Airplane. Asus has done little or no marketing for the TF700 and it's just sort of floating out there. Asus’ Q3 sales of 10.1" tablets was actually down year-over-year.
Here's my elevator conversation summary of the three most talked about Android tablets:
Note 10.1 - It's the most complete tablet available (any OS) and has unique features like multiview, inking via a Wacom digitizer with palm rejection, S-Note, and a slew of Samsung developed features not available elsewhere that make it a joy to use. It's powerful, has JB (kind of), has great sounding front mounted speakers, gets above average battery life, and has a great display with decent (for Samsung) color accuracy, good contrast, and is nicely bright. There are two downsides and they apply mostly to consumption-only buyers. The 720P display isn't as good on text and computer generated graphics as higher PPI tablets and all the things that make the Note great at creation and productivity add a lot of complexity for people that aren't going to use those features. It's also available with 3G and when so equipped it doubles as a giant phone. The only tablet I'd consider replacing my Note with is another Note with a higher PPI display.
N10 - I, like many people, saw the specs for the N10 before it was released and thought it was "game over" for all other 10.1" Android tablet makers. As it turns out the N10 is a "value" tablet not a "high-end" tablet. It has the highest PPI of any tablet on the planet but it's fairly dim, is pretty warm, and has just average contrast. The number of N10's reported with light bleed on their displays is pretty shocking (at any price) for a Samsung-built tablet. The N10's A15 SoC is state-of-the-art and kick-ass powerful. But, because of the mammoth PPI it's powering, it's no more powerful than the Note. It also has a bizarre quasi-phone UI which wastes a tremendous amount of display real estate and looks awkward on a 10" tablet. It's "Pure Google" which is fantastic for updates but, feature wise, it's a barren wasteland compared to the features bundled with TW. Battery life is below average and recharging time is six hours. The N10 is a great consumption device for the price. And that's about it.
TF700 - The Infinity is nothing more than a gussied up Prime which means its design is over a year old. It's also using a Teg3 SoC whose design is eighteen months old and at the end of its useful life and now used primarily in budget devices. It has no 5GHz Wi-Fi, uses single channel memory (the Note and N10 are dual channel), has 1GB of RAM, has IO issues that Asus has made famous, and is built using outdated components that, in a lot of cases, are from second-tier manufacturers (EG: AzureWave Wi-Fi radios). Asus' QC is dreadful, their repair center in TX horrible, and to unlock the bootloader you agree to completely void your warranty. There are a couple of things that are unique and, IMHO, the only reason people should be looking at a TF700. They are: the keyboard which also extends battery life, expandable storage, and the Super IPS display that makes it great for outdoor use. Someone only looking for PPI is better off with a N10.
So, as someone above said, no tablet's perfect. Of the three, I think living with the Note's perfectly acceptable but lower PPI display involves the least amount of compromise. For someone wanting/needing a higher PPI the N10's a decent choice and a good value. For someone who has to have a keyboard and/or higher PPI and expandable storage there's the TF700. But based on it and Asus' history, declining sales, and price, you're probably better off leaving Android and buying a W8 tablet.

I would really like your opinion on why you think the n8013 in the US has not seen the JB update and why there seems to be not even a peep about it. All promotion of the note 10.1 happens only on the Samsung Mobile International Facebook Page, including the big Christmas vid, but not word about the 10.1 on the Samsung Mobile USA page. It is like the product vanished.
Thoughts?

Because HTC, Motorola, and Samsung all suck at managing device updates. Before I got my N2 two weeks ago I was using a Teg3 One X. In an official press release with quotes from their CEO HTC said the Teg3 One X JB roll-out was going to be in October. Taiwan (HTC's home country) got a JB update in October that was so bad the roll out was stopped for the rest of the world. It started again two weeks ago and only five regions out of over a dozen have received it. In between, regional HTC offices have been providing inaccurate and conflicting updates on what the JB schedule really is.
Back to Samsung. Having nothing to do with updates Samsung's s/w management process is a cluster f-k. A single device can have over twenty four "current" versions of s/w running on it because Samsung creates unique s/w for each region a device is sold in. A good example is that while rolling out JB to the N8000 they were still releasing 4.0.4 ROMs in certain regions of the world. So there are newer ICS ROMs than there are JB. HTC rolls out a single version of "current" s/w that all of their devices globally (except specific Asian markets) get updated to within the span of a few weeks. So HTC's managing two versions (global and Asia) of s/w per device while Samsung's managing dozens. And the complexity this creates makes Samsung's update process overly complex and difficult for us on the outside to track and make sense of.
So, the short answer to your question of "where's the N8013's JB update?," is that it's stuck somewhere in Samsung's plumbing waiting to be deployed. It's fun to talk about reasons for delays like patent issues and the like but I really think it’s just Samsung being Samsung. The OG 8.9 on AT&T just got ICS last week after the rest of the world received it in August. Go figure.
The upside is that Samsung's s/w is versatile for end-users to manage with Odin so that when a newer ROM comes out for a different region you can just use that with no repercussions. My Brazilian N2 is running a Panamanian ROM and my also Brazilian Note 10.1 is running a British ROM. At some point soon either someone on XDA or Samfirmware is going to post a complete MD5 file for the N8010. Once that happens every 8010/3 user can update to it using Odin without the current complexity of loading a new ROM followed by using recovery to update it to JB from SD. Look at it this way; at least we have some options. The poor folks waiting on HTC and Motorola just have to wait.
This is kind of old but makes the point of how complex Samsung's s/w managment process is. This is a list of ROMs deployed just for the N8000. Kind of scary.

The problem is twofold:
Compatibility
Portability
Which are two sides of the same coin. You must use Samsung's connector
which limits your options for peripherals, unless you get an adapter. Even
then the lack of a separate HDMI port and the fact that you can't charge via
your PC's USB port (not enough current) are annoying. And you can't use your
devices chargers which means one more charger to carry around.

small price to pay for the dogs bollocks of android tabs, I have been putting off buying waiting for decent specs with micro sd, bought a nexus 7 & took it back next day, felt like cheap plastic crap! I would love to see a review for the note 10.1 based on a price of £268 which is what I paid after cashback, im sure it would get editor's choice awards across the board!

And that's a good price. I paid $499 plus shipping.
You can charge on a PC's USB... Just reeeeeeeeeally slowly.... Best to leave overnight to charge in this instance, but I have been using it before and charging at the same time...

False, I got a Samsung original desktop dock (stand, charge and audio out) for € 20 (in Italy) and it works with practically all of the Samsung 7" and 10" tablet lines.

False, Asus has been one of the best ones for their tablet line but Samsung is not bad at all when you compare it with all of the others and has actually been pretty good with their smartphones.
I run the official JB on my Note 10.1 3G and should get the official JB update on my OG Note very soon.
What he should keep in mind is:
- the Note 10.1 has 2GB RAM (a killer spec for how I use it)
- MultiWindow
- the 3G version is one of the handful of 10" tablets in the world (all of them Samsung AFAIK) that have full GSM call and message capabilities (another killer spec for me)
- it has the S-Pen (I don't use it all that often but when I need it it's VERY useful)
- very good and loud stereo audio
- Touchwiz and Samsung added SW, services and personalizations
- I don't know how it would do with games (I don't have a single one installed on my mobile devices) but on everything else the quad-core Exynos is the fastest and smoothest Android tablet I have ever seen.
- very good battery life
- one of the very best non-HD displays
- light and with a PLASTIC back (I HATE metal bodies!!!!)
- it has an IR blaster and you can use it as a smart remote
