If there was a single best rom, all other roms' threads would have been closed in the dev section. But has it been done? No! This is because every user has different views about different roms. The dev of a particular rom designed it with features and themes that he liked. So you gotta try different roms, and see which one you like the most. If you didn't like any one of 'em, use stock or make your own custom rom. Now i suppose you've understood why we don't encourage these kinds of threads here.

Since I'm a noob and have a noob question I'm going to hijack this thread instead of starting a new one since my question is related to this topic:
I see many of you are frequently switching roms on your devices. Testing out new ones regularly. Do you always have to re-download all your apps and tweak their settings after each time? Or is there some way to back up all the apps and their settings before flashing and restore everything on the new rom?
I just got this phone a couple of days ago and immediately decided to try a different rom (stock one drains battery) so I went for chobits digitalis and am very happy (only found one bug, maybe two), but I had to re-download everything I had and tweak all settings back the way the were manually after flashing... Unless there's a way?

GOATRIP 2.1 with Franco r.5 is the fastest and most stable ROM

I do not know the reason why this great rom GOATRIP 2.1 is not uploaded here.....but its super fast and has many not standart ROM features like
you can choose Lockscreen style and Custom app.......can change battery icons and many other tweaks......
Goatrip goes with r.3 kernel and when you install r.5 antutu score give 7624)))) and looks very smooth and fast ...... waiting to measure battery life.......
no lags, no SODs, no random restarts!!!! so happy!!!!!
How to add script that eliminate or moves most ADs?
Would be great to have different scripts to remove AD, tweaks, and so on)))
Carbon Tweaks do not work for me.... better separate sets of scripts for CWM)))

Well to each his own, I run Rocket ROM + speedmod. The best i have seen so far.
I'm using it for about a week and I must say that I totally agree with you... It's fast and customizable. AFAIK, it's Goatrip decision for not being put on XDA...
Btw, this is posted on wrong forum though. Should be on General Section...
how did you get the permisssion from them...they hate XDA for some reason..anyways but the developer of goa ROM is legend...yes as you said, the rom is really fast smooth an stable and i have been using this ROM for the last ten days on my other note..but one can download it from here
MOD Edit: Link removed. Only links to downloads that do not require registration are allowed on XDA

Flashed this rom now...WOW its quick, looks fantastic, only thing with some text in german is the GOT settings which has icons and easy to work out.
Definitely should be on XDA

Flashed the Spanish version(?) of the ROM, thanks to @waa2398's helpful translation. Even with the translation, took a bit of trial and error to get the ROM to 'stick' to how I like it. The 240 dpi mod is perfect and the ROM works great.
Thanks to the OP for the translation and of course to KindDroid

Wy in the hell would you translate it, just the first two you click what you do not want in your rom and the rest you click what you want in your rom. And you never flash the first time a custom kernel ore you loose root. Always flash afterwards. Modems you can find in modem thread and bootanimations is not important, last few secondes and delays booting up.
how did you activate the 240dpi mod? are you using TW or other launcher? as far as i know tw does not support this resolution so other launcher must be used. Thx!

Vincent...thanks for your time and expertise. I am sure some will need them.
My first post and I wanted to make sure it would be to thank the KingDroid team for their hard work and for giving us a ROM that is truly amazing! I have spent many hours browsing through each of the poats related to KingDroid and have flashed your ROMs since v4 and can see you are getting better with age (of the ROMs).
Just spent 30 min on the ROM v6c (importing contacts and using Titanium backup for app restore).
The Apex Launcher works great with the 240dpi mod and for the very first time can see that earlier, there was a lot of wasted real estate on my Note's screen! Hats off to you KingDroid team!
Best regards, and best of luck with future ROM development (hopefully Jelly Bean mods included, if not a ROM based on the JB source code).

Clear defaults in the TW launcher you're using now, and select either Nova or Apex launchers (hope you installed them during the flash?), and 240 dpi should work.

So many ROMS - which to chose ?

I am just simply lost. I want to try out a 4.1.1 JB version but there are just so many to choose from.
Are there main differences between all the ROMS out there ? How do I go about choosing a good one without having to try one after the other and spending hours flashing, wiping, reflashing, etc... ?
First check changelogs and see what has the most functionality and is most stable, then from your shortlist flash some to see which you prefer, also best Rom threads are not allowed on XDA so this will prolly get nuked, just fyi.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
First of all: Such Threads are not allowed on xda! But I want to help you!
First if you like
Touchwiz based JB then
Wanam's
or
Omega's
Roms. These are very stable and smooth
If you like Pure Android:
I really don't like to make commercial , but try my rom "CroJB" (link in my signature)
or
CM10, Temasek's builds, SuperNexus from Faryaab are also very good!
But you need to try which you like the best! There are so many good roms as you said. You have to try and please don't make that kind of threads again

That's not wrong, but if there was a best rom, do you think the threads of other roms would have been open? There is no best rom. Every rom differs in its qualities, and it's up to you to decide which is best for you.
Secondly, many threads have been created with these pointless questions, and it increases the work of the mods and admins. So we discourage it.
I hope it's clear to you. (don't take it rudely, awright?)

Aosp roms discussion thread. [Minor FAQ inside]

This thread is for discussing aosp roms, like Slim, Carbon, etc. except for CM though since it has its own thread. This is meant to keep the unhelping chit-chatter out of the development threads where bug reports best reside. When posting here, clarify what aosp rom you're on. Do not post bug reports here, post them in their respective development threads!
One more thing! While this thread progresses, use search and/or read the faq to see if your question has already been posted before, to avoid repetitiveness and us older lads becoming grumpy.
F.A.Q: (frequently asked questions)
I would like to dualboot, what should I do?
Flash siyah kernel
Help! I flashed siyah and now my rom doesn't boot!
It's because whatever rom you use has a newer mali driver which most kernels aren't updated for. Especially siyah which hasn't seen some dev love in ages.
What rom should I flash?
We don't know, you have to try them out yourself!
What's gapps, and is this inside xx rom?
Gapps is short for google apps, which is the Play store and some other apps you sorely need. Go too http://goo.im/gapps and download the gapps package for whatever version you have. Newer aosp roms are most certainly 4.2.2. Some roms, like Slim, have their own separate gapps packages specially made for those roms. In those cases, the standard gapps from goo.im will not work!
Help! I flashed xx rom but now it doesn't boot!
Try making a factory reset in the recovery and reflash whatever rom you were on. Also, in most cases, CWM works better for rom installations. Twrp craps out for unknown reasons.
Help! I wiped data and reflashed the rom but it still doesn't boot!
That sounds like a rom issue. Try flashing an earlier version of the rom.
Help! Something screwed up and now my phone doesn't boot anymore!
Well, reboot into recovery and see if a reflash helps. It is always recommended to regularly keep your system backed up in case something nasty happens. Perform a nandroid backup every once in a while.
What is a nandroid backup?
It's like a screenshot of your current state which you can return to if something bad happens. A nandroid backup backs up the system, boot (kernel) and data and, if specified/selectable, it also backs up cache and recovery. Maybe even efs (in twrp). However, it doesn't back up the modem!
I flashed xx kernel and I now get a black screen upon reboot!
That is because the rom you flashed has the new mali driver from the 4.2.1 leak and the kernel you flashed isn't updated with this driver. Stay on the provided kernel for now.
Thanks to:
I forgot to give thanks where due, and I'm so sorry for that. If I got an advice from you, hit me up and your name goes on this list.
C_tho; for mentioning the mali driver stuff.
Noble Sir Slaphead20; for suggesting I'd maintain an FAQ and suggesting I'd make an entry covering gapps.

Only Siyah, and Siyah only supports the older aosp roms.
Speaking of aosp, I just had an urge to flash Carbon. Think I'll do it, because I'm a bit bored of running touchwiz and I've run CM for so long I need change. I didn't like RootBox that much (too many settings, lol. I like a "leaner" setup) and there's no official aokp for our device. I also didn't like Slim, so I'll give Carbon another go.

What DSA said. We do not welcome JellyBam here anymore because the developer broke a lot of rules of XDA. Plagiarism and violating the gpl, amongst others.
----------
I updated the op with a small faq. More to come in the following days.
In the Faqs it might be worth mentioning in the gapps bit that some Roms ie slim, have their own gapps, and others won't work
Just flashed Carbon 1.5, not regretting it thus far! This ROM gives the word buttery smooth a whole new meaning!

The only problem with SuperNexus is it is updated very slowly. Also Faryaab has exams to do now, so it will not get updated at least until he is done with them.
If you want a super light rom I would reccomend SlimBean it's fast, and light, battery is acceptable, and it's easy to change settings like screen density and navbar settings without having to edit build.prop and decompile framework-res.apk, which you will have to do on SuperNexus.
what about the smoothness of it?
Another one there to vouch for Carbon, running it on both phone and tablet

I love AOSP Roms and thank you for starting this thread. Unfortunately I am afraid that I can't use such Roms as a daily driver because of the camera problems. Bluetooth also seems to be a problem for some users.
Guys I am facing Memory leak problem with the Slim bean 4.2.2.....is it normal? cant seems to find any solution....
you'd be better off asking in the slim thread
