S Pen accuracy off when writing around the edge. - Galaxy Note 10.1 General

So, while I was taking notes in class using S Note, I noticed that couldn't really write the letter "y" when typing on the right side of the page. After messing around a little bit in that area, I realized that the pen marks were just below and to the left of where I was writing (In between the bezel and where the lines end, and a few centimeters above the location of the light sensor when it's on the right side of the tablet). I'm going to test it again later today.
Has anybody else encountered this issue?

So after fiddling around a little more, I realized that it applies to the aforementioned area (on both sides) for the full length of the screen (from top to bottom when holding the tablet in portrait). It's odd that it would be the same on both sides of the screen the same distance from the bezel. I'm going to make my way to best buy to try the demo unit for similar issues.

That's just the nature of the technology. Behavior is consistent across multiple devices. Touch input is also offset towards the edge for the top and bottom edges in landscape. Not a big deal.

Funny. I don't seem to have that problem.

This is likely the LCD metal frame and surrounding electronics distorting the Wacom radio field...
Distortion is visible if you use a ruler to draw straight lines, as in this image:

Intuos and other Wacom tablets have a wide border around them to prevent this distortion.
It would be nice if Wacom had a fine-tuned adjustment for these ranges.

Turn on 'Show touches' in developer options settings, touch and hold down screen, follow your finger and the dot towards the top or bottom edge in landscape and as you approach approximately 1/2" towards the edge the dot will pull away. Doesn't seem to appy to left and right edges in landscape. Anyhow, not a big deal but good to be aware for the rare instances that you have controls like sliders that close to the edge.

As those who replied have mentioned, I was able to reproduce the issue on the Best Buy demo unit. Thanks for the input everyone, and thanks for the picture AbeOwitz.

Interesting... Please try the other sides.

I am getting only a slight distortion when the pen is really close to the front camera. But even then it is not even near to the distortion in the picture earlier in this thread.
The rest of the screen i'm not getting any distortion.
I'll upload a screenshot in a bit

I tried it all over the screen now.
I don't get the problem on the edges except from the top left and bottom right. Not a big deal. The worst is that there is a little spot in the middle, about 2 cm from the bottom and about a 1 cm to the left.
I guess it's magnetic interference from the components in the tablet.
Sent from my GT-N8000 using xda app-developers app

I noticed this issue when I used a folio case that had magnets. It got so pronounced that there would be a small circle of area (right below the front camera) that couldn't detect any pen input (contact with hands gets registered fine). And yes, jagged lines around there and directly at the opposite side near the Samsung logo.
I got really worried and stopped using the case. The problem ceased. I'm wondering if using such magnetic cases will damage the tablet in the long run. Any thoughts?
One X to rule them all

I'm no electrical engineer but i don't like magnets near any electronic devices especially when any type of memory storage is involved, but i tend to err on the side of caution. I'm sure there are some folks with greater knowledge about electromagnetism than i in here, but with all the sensors and stuff crammed in there who knows what's going on

Here is mine

i am too
in near of left and right edge side .when use s note to test (and other app) .drag the note area to the side and try to dot with s pen .the dot will not correct point with the pen. the area of this problem is about 1-2 squrebox in s note background.
And i have some problem (maybe not - -) .when i use the Smart lock App to lock file in microsd card (sandisk 32GB ultra class10). it very slow to prepare to lock process.but in the main memory of note10.1 at the same file it normaly .I use this microsd card in galaxy s2 before but it normaly. It can lock and unlock very fast but when use in note10.1 it use long time to lock or unlock..i try to use Hide it pro app(audio manager) to test.and it have the problem same Smart lock.
Have any one got the same problem? Thank you ^^

I'm actually scared of the "magnetic closure" thing. Since I've bought the Note when it was first available, I just jumped and bought one of the cases available -at the time, there was only one. However, whenever I use the S-pen with the case on, the accuracy on the edges gets off by millimeters. I just hope that it will not cause any permanent damages, as it works a lot better on the edges without the case -apart from the bottom, it's as problematic.
Anyone know anything about the permanent damage issue? I will not have the opportunity to buy another case for like a month or two, so I want to use mine in the meantime, and replace with a new one as soon as possible afterwards. :fingers-crossed:

Exactly! I'm really concerned about possible long term damages too. My gut says there is a high chance. But the original Samsung book cover has magnets on its back too. Wouldn't they have realised the issue?

Hello guys
I bought the note 10.1 recently and I'm very happy with it. Unfortunately I noticed after one week the same problem. I'm not sure if it got worst but *
it appears not only at the edges but also at some other spots. It get worst with low pressure and slow motion. With this imprecision it's not possible to draw ot do some exact sketches. Does sb have the same problem and is this normal or should I let it repair or ask for a new one?
Greetings gambade

There is a pic

It seems to be a huge problem in Lecture Notes app.
I'm planning to buy for my education, too. Have you fixed that problem guys? Is it a big deal?

did you get it at a Best Buy in NYC? If so, which one?!?
Very nice ,that is a plastic shell still right?
yes at the Best Buy in NoHo. seems to be the only Best Buy around here that has the grey one right now. the back is indeed plastic, but it is a nice quality.. it almost does have a metallic feel to it with the texture. the rim around it is metal. build quality and display are excellent.. no creaks or looseness at all.. backlight is very even.. no leaks at all. blacks on the screen are nice and deep. and the screen doesn't seem to attract fingerprints much.
let me know if you guys have any more questions

You haven't been paying attention to Apple over the past few years then. It's all about hype. I'm 100% convinced, shortages and delays are on purpose.
Look for lag on websites and using the keyboard on other sites/apps
Any loose panel near edges (Glass seperation) ?
Did you get the usb adaptor yet ?
Battery life ?
Any heat issues with back of tablet ?
WiFi issues if any ?
Connecting to computer issues ?
Best Buy at Columbus Circle (Broadway & 62nd) have the grey metallic back one, though I didn't check if they had 32gb too.
The grey metallic is absolutely sleek. I like the look and feel of it much better than the white (which I purchased last week and exchanged to grey today).
One small feature not oft mentioned in the grey is that the metal rim on the grey model is matte grey, not the shiny silver of the white. It's a small difference, but makes for a much more subdued and professional look (read: not ipad-ish).
The textured back (though plastic) also makes it feel better when you hold it in your hand, since you have the ever slight friction from the brushed pattern. Also, of course, grey less flashy and more serious (reminded me of other Android tablets like Xoom, Flyer, but of course, way way lighter!)
Form factor-wise, I don't think you can go wrong with the grey GT 10.1!
you think the grey looks better than the white after having both. i got the white on the 8th and really like it, but i'm returning it, and will be getting the grey from costco(only color they have). It looked sort of plain in the pictures and i tend to like a little more flash in things, hope its as nice as you say.
I got the grey version as well. The store gave me a white one by mistake. Good thing I checked it before I left.
The back is textured so it doesn't slip and slide around in my lap like the Acer did.
I also do not hear any squeaks while holding it.
Just called my local BB and they do have them in the store, but will not be displaying them until Sunday. Kind of a weird delay considering that it is supposed to be a hot new release.
Got the 16 grey one today. It's nice. My 6 year old want let me touch it. He's gaming.

i haven't experienced lag yet, and i've been browsing Engadget, XDA, New York Times, Facebook, and various music blogs. i did see a bit of slow down when i was on the Netflix site, scrolling down through my queue.. but that's only because i have about 300 movies on there.
i did notice when i was on the Market.. when i was trying to click on the Search, the keyboard took a bit to pop up. maybe about a 3 sec delay.

there's no glass separation or any looseness or creaks. my coworker has his Transformer here, and he's gonna return it after trying out my GTab, as his has creaking on the right side. he also noticed that scrolling through YouTube's home page was a bit faster and smoother on the GTab. everyone here at work is impressed with the build quality.. even iPad owners.

i originally wanted the 32GB, but they are nowhere to be found in the NYC area, so i just got the 16GB. having had a netbook previously, i only used up about 8GBs on that, since my music collection is about 24,000 songs - i have them on my external. so i really only store documents and photos in the internal storage. i haven't installed that many apps yet, but those shouldn't take up much space also. i just started using Amazon Cloud, so i will be testing that out to see how i'll go by day to day with it. i'm also looking into wireless externals as i've been meaning to get a 2nd backup for my music. Seagate has a very nice one. i figure, i could use that to connect to my GTab as well without the hassle of dongles.

Got my Metallic Grey 16GB Tab. Loving it! My bestbuy had about 20-30. All models. Bestbuy wasn't displaying them though. Claimed they didn't know where to place them, even though they had a tablet section with just the XOOM and Iconia.
Anyway, I had a XOOM then an iPad 2, then an iconia, then an iPad 2, and now a Tab 10.1. And I think it's a keeper!
Thanks radiohead14 for the answers given. Return as soon as you can to post more information
more thoughts - the speakers are surprisingly pretty good for their size. and I recommend everyone to get Thumb Keyboard. IMO.. much better and convenient than stock. it splits the keyboard so you could easily type with your thumbs. I also prefer Dolphin HD browser - seems to be more stable than stock.

NEW 360° Rotating case for Acer Iconia Tab A500

Looks fairly good overall....
...but the description describes it as having "snap shut closure..."
Looks like a band of elastic that wraps around it to keep it shut...
If this had magnets, or real snaps or...something else, it might be a contender...I'm not a fan of elastic...wears out way too fast.

I think what you are seeing as "elastic bands" are the grooves in the case for the edge of the tablet to set in.
I will be very eager to hear from someone who gets this case to find out:
1. How it"snaps shut"?
2. If the flap opens all the way to the back?
3. How well the tablet stays in the case?
I purchased this from Ebay a week ago. When it comes I will post pics and give my thoughts on it. Should arrive next week. Woot!!

I am purchasing this within next week. Seller gave me the link for his store.
http://www.fintie.com/
IMHO, it looks like one of the best cases out there.
Per the description from the store link above,
5.Elastic band holds iPad 2 closed securely while on the go
maybe it does use elastic bands, but since it also says "iPad 2" I'll be curious to see how it actually works.
Elastic closure...
Having gone to where the original object was posted and downloaded the picture, I saw a swelling on the "upper corner" of the cover that could really only be a couple of things...
Given the lack of anything else that might be considered a candidate for some sort of closure, I figured it to be elastic...
Looking forward to seeing the confirmation in other people's pictures...I still may get it and modify it to my liking. Seems like the closest yet. I do wish it had some other type of closure...
P.S. I love the simplicity of the TPU "snapon" case I have now - seems to offer more corner / edge protection should I mishandle it.
I may buy another TPU case and add / modify it with portions of this case. now THAT would be cool...
I'm thinking that "snap shut" could means like one of those jean button...

( then dock it through a circle ring ( case snap on to base ) to become desktop with angles and 360 rotation positions )
Top half of the circle above Acer logo is part of tablet case while the bottom half is use as the backstand. ( it is bendable at that part/or separate.... see the joint lines in pic #1 )
the Jeans snap shut button could either be on the top half or the lower half circle... served the same purpose.
Together, they combined to becomes a portfolio case

Same here, but I have the blurex slim case now and love it, and but this case looks nice
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I received mine today, which I ordered last week from fintie.com. It looks exactly like the pictures on ebay or the fintie.com so I am not going to post any pictures. I also have a blurex slim case (same thing with roocase slim) and quality wise it is not as good as blurex, and it has one less indentation thingies in the case that serve as a stopper for different angels, but it stays fine even if you don put the table directly into those indentations.
Build quality is ok, not great but ok. Unfortunately just like in the pictures it has an elastic strap as a closure instead of a magnetic flap or a hard leather part like in blurex case. I am not sure if it wears out or becomes lose quickly, only the time will tell.
Swivel mechanism works fine, and it is a lot easier to remove the tablet from the case, if you are doing that constantly. The part that your tablet sits in is plastic, the rest is fake leather. It is slightly thinner than the blurex slim case, mainly due to less padding on the flap.
Removing the plastic case from the swivel mechanism and flap is NOT easy at all, and would probably break the notches on the swivel eventually.
Both sides are open like the blurex case, so this is not designed to protect your tablet if you drop it sideways, but more for to protect it from daily wear and tear and carrying in a bag, etc.
All in all I am happy with it and would buy it again, since I really wanted something that swivels for reading comics in portrait mode.
Thanks man, this seems like a nice case then. I will order mine within this week, although it will probably reach my hands one month after I do the purchase (I live in Mexico and our Postal Service is really crappy).
Looking forward to pictures as well, was wanting a case like this since I read mangas and also browse ebay in portiat mode.
I just Googled "iconia a500 rotating case" and found another vendor for this item and bought it for about $19 total. (Same item but $10 cheaper than the two vendors on Amazon; in fact this vendor is through amazonwebstore.) I'll try to remember to post back here after I get to play with it for a couple of days.
I received the case yesterday, so shipment from the vendor I used was quick enough for me. The case looks just as it does in pictures posted in this thread already, so I won't add more.
The thickness of the case material seems like it will protect the tablet very well from abrasion damage. As for impact damage, dropping small/light things onto the case shouldn't damage the tablet inside--or even dropping the tablet itself onto a hard floor unless the tablet lands right on a corner as the sides are exposed. (Even then, the case will protect it a little bit as it does extend over the edges of the Iconia a little.)
When the case is open, access is unobstructed to all buttons and ports except, of course, the docking port. When the case is closed, the elastic band covers the camera and the headphone port. I can't imagine anyone trying to take pictures with the Iconia closed in the case, but blockage of the headphone port could be a problem for people who want to close the case securely with the elastic band and listen to music through wired headphones at the same time.
There are two preset angles in this case. Using the trusty eyeballing method, one is 50 deg and the other is 65 deg. There is enough friction to set the tablet at any angle between there and not much give to set beyond.
The rotation works as advertised and is the reason why I got this particular case. I spent $19 on it and feel it's a good value. If you find a deal on this case for $10-$15, then you shouldn't even hesitate.

A really disappointing phone

I was lucky enough to be able to 'upgrade' my Samsung Galaxy Note to an Xperia Z at no cost (company deal) and after three days of use I am really disappointed - if not frustrated - with the Sony. I was attracted to the combination of screen size and thinness of the design, but usability-wise, this phone is a let down for me. I probably take/make only a handful of calls per day and the phone is used mostly as a work support tool/mini tablet (email, rss feeds, news, server/network status reports from our monitoring tools). Here's my thoughts so far:
1) Performance - great & battery drain/hour seems to be less than the Note for similar tasks.
2) Connector covers - AARGH! - what a pain to have to keep flipping them open for headphones and charging. Fair enough - I see why they exist and if I specifically bought the phone for its water-resistant features then perhaps I'd appreciate them more, but as things stand I'm tempted to rip/cut them off! (but won't)
3) USB connector is on the top left side - that really makes for a badly-positioned, hanging-out lead when the phone's in a car dock or charging on the desk and you want to pick it up for a call. I'm really used to all my previous phones (HTC Touch Pro, HTC Touch Pro II, HTC Desire, Samsung G. Note) having the USB port at the bottom - which has also meant that the same dock could be used for different phones.
4) Phone power button is on the right side, in the middle - totally obscured when in a car dock so here' s the scenario: Phone is in satnav mode (Yay Waze!). Phone rings, call is answered and phone speaker turned on. Call ends, and phone has locked itself, so to get back to satnav, you have to remove the phone from the dock to press the power button - OH for a power/wake up button on the face of the phone! Maybe there's a util for this?
5) The screen is really hard to view outdoors, even in moderate sunlight (Yeah, I have tried with the 'adapt to lighting conditions' feature off). The Note is much better in this respect
6) Sound output is from the bottom, right edge of the phone...so hold the phone in your right hand and you muffle the audio when listening to music or watching a video.
7) Where's my white cotton gloves? This phone looks awful after 5 mins in your hand - marks everywhere on the glossy black finish. Can't wait for my soft protective back/cover to arrive and then only the face of the phone will look like it's been dipped in grease.
8) RSI - holding this phone for any length of time as a tablet (for reading news, emails etc.) makes my hand hurt - it's worse than the (bigger) Note - probably because the Sony is so thin that the pinch/holding grip is different.
SO: 11/10 for looks, but 5/10 for functionality.
I can't complain about the opportunity to have this phone, but I have just ordered a micro SIM adaptor so I can use the Note again as my main phone and the Xperia Z will go to someone else.
Another pointless thread..
This post is not only pointless, but these things are so minor and 90% persional taste.
And while on that subject, wtf is with hating on the damn flaps.Even if the phone was not waterproof,I like my phone smooth, not with 5 holes on each side that make rings on my fingers.I get its annoying to open and close them, but if you are not using headphones 30 times a day...I dont get the issue. Btw if you hate them so much, buy a dock and NFC headphones and you dont ever have to open flaps in your life
useless thread....nothing constructive out of this at all.
2) use docking station and bluetooth headset
4) use a different car dock
7) i don't have oily fingers, so no problem here
Don't think many will feel you're pain here guy.
This would have taken you about 5 min to check out beforehand.
Buying a waterproof phone to bash it's flaps is kind of silly if you ask me.

Strange I really liked the display in the sun, maybe a sharp vs JDI panel?

This phone has a very special feature, you can rotate the phone , although for some (stupid) reason this doesn't seem to work in portrait

8) RSI - holding this phone for any length of time as a tablet (for reading news, emails etc.) makes my hand hurt - it's worse than the (bigger) Note - probably because the Sony is so thin that the pinch/holding grip is different.

I had this at first, but not any longer, at first I held it like I did with my arc, but this phone requires different handling to be comfortable, depending on my sitting position it rests on my pink an slightly in my palm (the arc was mainly in the palm of my hand). Or it lays flat in my hand.
U should have no problem with power button and screen size if u came from galaxy note as they r similar.
But I am with you with outdoor sunlight

Want to sell it?? My friend likes mine very much but don't have enough money!
The bad thing about the phone is the poor low light camera quality, think the rest of the phone is amazing..
6. Position is excellent. As the majority of people hold devices right handed, if held in the correct position the hand naturally amplifies the volume.
2. You're going to have to try hard to 'out-stupid' yourself on that one!
AW: A really disappointing phone

I too have come from a Note, and to be quite honest with you, I dont think I'll be going back to Samsung any time soon.
First thing you notice is the build quality. Its 100x times better on the Z and I'm not sure how such a popular manufacture can still get away with shoddy quality.
I think the screen is quite fantastic, I was a fan of AMOLED until I saw this 1080p beauty! Its just amazing. I cannot see any pixels no matter how hard I try! The UI is much better, much more lightweight and responsive.
It's just better than the Note IMO. The only thing letting it down is battery life at the moment.

Nope - the Note has a hard button below the display - but that particular annoyance has been fixed with an app called Auto Screen On and I can now wake up the display by waving near the proximity sensor.
Thanks to all for the constructive feedback and sorry to all those who think that personal observations on usage patterns and ergonomics are pointless.

Nah - that's too easy!
If no-one posted honest, objective feedback how are phone designers and potential users going to know whether there's things that can be done to make the current or next product even better, or whether the phone is the best fit for their particular circumstances.

Ah- the 'you're holding it wrong' defence!
I understand that a certain brand of ruggedised phone has connector covers with small screws securing them so you can remove them if you want, or if one should be accidentally damaged and need replacing - I am told the screwdriver is supplied in the box too.

Have to agree on build quality - it's a very 'smart' smartphone. It's just some of the functional design that doesn't work for me.

Wanna buy S4, but and but...need 'serious' opinions please...

Hi, this is a Note 2 user, and I have been using it for past 9 months, now I am interested in S4, the reason is 'SIZE' and size only. BUT I have been told that it has some serious build quality (screen breaking!) issues! And I have read that topic in General section too, which is very disappointing to say the least. I often use my phone in jeans pocket, that's why I am even more worried. Really, it can break that easy? I mean you put it in your pocket, drive for some time, and then when you take it out the screen is broke? What the !!!
I live in India, and I would also like to know that if the screen does break does it come under warranty in that case? Cause I won't be spending 120 bucks (or whatever the price is of a new display) every time it breaks.
If there is any other problem other than the above issue do also let me know.
I know this is a S4 section and asking something about S4 here will mostly give me positive reviews, but kindly, for one second don't be biased  and help this dude out
Thanks in advance.

Hi
About phone build quality, i got nothing bad to say, i also wear my phone in jeans almost all the time and i don't even have one scratch on it, so don't worry about that.
About those lag problems, i really didn't encounter neither one tiny lag, i have 32gb octa core version, so you don't have to worry about screen or anything else
I hope i helped

my friend has also got a note 2, and i can say that the s4 is a lot better then the note 2.
putting it in your jeans no prob.
if you turn of some Samsung stuff, no lag
and you can always install cm so you have zero lag.
I have dropped mine with a spigen case on about 5times once on concrete and im 6ft 5 so quite a drop and no problems. As for in jeans I always keep it in my front pocket amd never had a problem I lie on the couch forget my s4 is in my pocket and roll around on it. Build quality is fine.

I have been using my s4 for a while now and haven't experience any problem concerning screen issues, It dropped a few times and the screen survived... but if you are so worried about the build issue there's always the option of extra protection such as a shock proof case. There is many out there, up for grabs. And trust me you will find the case saving your phones a lot of times from what could have been a total wreckage.
So get yourself a somewhat shock proof case and a screen protect (even though its not really needed, the extra protection is always good) and you will be good to go. You will phone will remain in tact for a prolong period.
Personally, I find that the build quality for the S4 is pretty okay (in the almost 2 wks that I've owned this phone). The SAMOLED cracking problem also worried me but what I surmise is that the problem is caused by 1 of 3 things: improper cases (or lack thereof) for the phone size, wearing restrictive clothing or extreme temperature fluctuation (from ice cold to hot). With enough applied pressure, I can see the phone twisting thereby allowing the SAMOLED to give and crack without breaking the gorilla glass. In order to counter that, I opted to get a rugged, more sturdy case (Otterbox Defender) than my usual TPU ones. It does provide a bit of comfort because this thing has a hard shell on the inside and I don't feel like the phone will try to conform to the shape of my leg when in my jeans pocket. As for the extreme temperatures, it never actually got very cold this winter, so I'm not to worried about coming into the house from out in the cold.
while i read that some people have even managed to break the screen by only holding it in their hands using it, my phone is still ok. i'm also having it in my jeans pocket. those who broke their phones almost never say which pocket they had the phone in. many people put it in the back pocket... i wouldn't do that with any phone.
except a few bugs in cm i dont have anything negative to say about the phone.
As a former Note 2 owner i like this phone better because of the better camera, crisp screen quality and descent batterylife (off course not better than the GN2). Also size wise it is better to handle than the Note2. I think overall the S4 it is a big improvement over the Note2. Just my 2 cents
I'm also in the same predicament. Currently using a Note 2 but it's size..is both a boon and a bane. Considering the s4 now hoping that 5" screen size would hit the sweet spot. Was using a s3 previously.
Thanks for the replies. However I didn't want to hear about lag and CM thingy. So I take it that there is NO major issues with the build quality. Good. I am going for it then.
One more thing, on Note 2, with S Pen it acted as a mouse on some webpages, like when you hover the S Pen on a sub-link it would show the additional options under that link, now I know that S4 has some air gestures with fingers, but is that feature enabled in web browser?

Yes but it only enlarges and gives you a preview of the page if you hover over it with your finger afaik.

So far the Air View is enabled in the stock browser but only allows you to magnify the content when you hover your fingers over a particular content. As for the additional options, I don't think that feature is enabled as yet. Hopefully it is in the near feature.

Yeah, okay, I'll have to give up that feature, as well as all the S Pen features, and a great battery backup and maybe some other things, anyway, will have to digest them. I just can't stand huge size anymore.
Thanks all for the replies. Coming in this section within a week.
P.S.: One last thing, I'll get the white one, I guess there is no difference/problem with it in comparison to Black one? Cause with Note 2 it was a different thing, the White model had correct LED colours, while the Grey had not! Anything like that?

No, there's no difference with the colours.. There's only variants differences like I9500 and I9505... But you can get either black or white with either and have the same features with respect to their variant.

First Impression (very unprofessional review)

Gonna drop some thoughts, pics, about the GS6...This will be very unorganized since I will just be updating the post as I discover things! [emoji4] I have a white and black 64gb.
Firstly I am coming from a galaxy S5 and have had every galaxy since the very first one. All the pics will be taken with my S5 so blame it for the quality, he he. That said...
I never understood why there was such a big push/issue over metals and all this premium build crap, then I opened the box and held the S6. The feeling... It is like looking your best in casual clothes or a suit vs your gym clothes or active wear.
The backs: The white is a nice pearl and amazing at preventing fingerprints and light reflection, I purposely tried to smudge it but couldn't.
The black is a fingerprint magnet and reflects light like a mirror (the front is not bad at all since it's mostly screen) I tried avoiding but they will show.

Some little things: The charger is similar to the standard S5 etc. charger but, has a little lighting sign on it to signify fast charging. The usb cords though are about 12 inches shorter than that of the S5, seems to be about 4 feet long. The usb is thinner too, mainly cause the S5 one I'm used to had the 3.0 built in. The shorter usb sucks for those times you want to use it while charging.
The back is way more slippery, than the S5, will take some getting used too! I do not use cases.
Update: I was so against cases, but this phone is very, very slippery, esp. if your using it a bit and the back warms up, makes you fingers sweat/moist. I took it to the zoo the other day, clear skies, mild breeze, about 65 degrees out, so not humid at all. While taking pics I was very worried I would drop it if handling it with one hand (again slippery and thin). As soon as I got home ordered a Ringke clear case (which is amazing I might add), and now the user experience feels much better because I don't have that fear now of it slipping out my hand. My last 7-8 phones I was 100% against and never used a case, hope that is saying something about the slippery-ness of this phone.
First power on, battery dropped 5% just going through the setup screens. I know this is probably nothing.
Out of box storage 54.31gb, nothing setup or installed.
For those wondering the nano SIM comes in the box, I haven't inserted it yet.
Tried to show how much tilt the camera created, may be hard to see but the camera lens is way off the surface (a good thing to me!)
The camera area and the heart rate monitor has a film of plastic over them. The camera one has the lens cut out as usual, but the one over the heart rate monitor I would remove so it doesn't affect the sensor.
Fingerprint: This thing so much better than the swipe method. It allows for 4 fingers to be set up, I did each thumb twice. I set it up right away and only on one instance did it not work, and that was after letting someone try their finger first to show how it worked. Even with a damp hand after washing it worked, which always caused my swipe on the S5 to fail.
Home Screen: The wallpaper does this little floating thing when you tilt the phone any direction. Its very subtle but noticeable.
Update: The tmobile update put it to lollipop 5.02
Samsung: No more micro Sd slot.
Me: No problem! Usb OTG cable $2.99, usb micro sd reader $4.99, in goes my 64 micro sd card[emoji106] This is very small and pocketable for say a long trip or vacation were you may want extra storage space. Best part is now swapping cards is even faster, carry 2 or 3 micros in you pocket. #Microcenter
I now feel that the lack of sd card is a big non-issue in fact I feel happy about it because we gained from this loss...with the sd under the cover we would/should have to power off, remove cover, swap card, power on, wait for boot. Now, plug in OTG 5 secs later file explore automatically opens (sort of like Windows pc) full access, and it's mass storage not slow MTP. Pull notification down, unmount/eject pull cable out 5 sec. So it is much faster and plug-n-play! Bam! now im rocking ~114GB for less than 10 bucks of adapters.
S Voice: usually one of the first things I disable, but this new one is sweet. You can set it to always listening and it actually works great. You choose your own phrase, mine is "yo galaxy" then tell it what you want to do...Do this like your telling someone to do something without pausing in your natural speaking speed. i.e. you don't have to wait like Google now for the beep that its ready, which makes Svoice nicer. So for example with the screen of and fingerprint protected I say---"Yo galaxy set an alarm for 30 minutes from now" and she sets it and tells you the time it will go off. The screen doesn't turn on during this, just a little 3-4 mm speech bar bout the size of the edge notifications. Summary: Svoice may see more use from Google now from me!
Lucky T-Mo customers!
Looking forward to the rest of your review.
I'm still trying to decide between black and white. I love the slight bit of blue the black one gives off, but damn those fingerprints haha.

If you like white you will LOVE this pearl white...I prefer black, makes the screen kind of disappear. The black is not jet black, and the blue tint is only really noticeable/visible with direct light at an angle.

I went with the white for the reason due to the finger prints and that it was truely black. I get black so the screen blends in with the color, but since its blueish it doesnt quite do what I want. The white has a pearl to it.
Hope to be getting my Tmobile one soon

No you cannot, in fact several things are missing from that menu and other menus...unless there in other places a lot of useful stuff has been removed, i.e. I cannot find some of the air gestures like hover, preview, etc... I think Samsung didn't understood what people meant by the bloat I.e. the Samsung apps and auto on features, not take them away completely.

Ya, which is a shame I actually used some of them. They could have left them, but just off by default. Mainly air preview was good for fast forwarding/rewinding a video or song to the spot you wanted.
This is all we get now, hope the others can be downloaded from the galaxy app store like some of the extra camera modes were!

This probably won't be a very good test since I'm in Canada and you're in the Ohio, but I was wondering if you could test out the GPS performance on the S6? My G2 locks take quite some time to find it (even after changing servers), and loses it every now and then.

Personally for me it is no biggie the lack of air features. Even the ones still present in the phone will be turned off in my case
Two more questions:
1) Have you had the chance to hear the phone's audio quality from headphones? I read a lot of controversial information on the Internet - some say it is amazing, some say it is rather moderate. And if it is moderate it is a deal breaker for me - audio quality is an important aspect.
2) How are the themes in the Theme store? So far the ones I've seen (3 of them) are butt ugly. Is there an option to create your own theme (or that was a feature coming later this month)?
Did you see if it supports h.265 encode / decode like qualcomm 810?
Which color is the better looking of the two?
Post more thoughts! I have an S3 so I could really use an upgrade but the lack of waterproofing and SD card really bummed me out. That and it being $700 having a mini stroke over here trying to convince myself to pull the trigger.
