How the hell do I install ICS 4 original rom and get OTA working - Eee Pad Transformer General

Hi,
I have made a big mistake when buying my TF101 from my local importer and not from US.
Since my warranty has expired, I suppose to pay 100$ for him to give me the official local Rom.
1. I dont want this Rom because I can never get OTA from asus.
2. 100$ is way to much.
Is there anyway that I can install a ics 4 like it was bought in the US? with normal OTA?
I don't want to have root and tweak system, just normal rom,
I have installed a custom rom: the Chrome is very slow, the entire thing is slow and not stable.
What are my options? It has become a nightmare using this. I prefer to go back to honey comb or buy something else from the US, even though I dont live there.
I just want the original US rom.
Thanks

Easiest way is with NVFLASH, choose the firmware country you want and flash that if you can use nvflash

is there a way to manually download el30- sprint?

OK, a long time ago, I did a manual update on my EPIC 4g (sprint). I am thinking that is why I am unable to download the update through the setting tab a week after the update came out. I know everyone has it now. I have no idea what update I did on my phone last year... but I havnt been able to get firmware updates from sprint since them. I'd kinda like to have this one.
Does anyone know of a link that has this update, I can load to my SD card and execute on the phone? I just want to be able to reboot to the new ROM, I dont want to have to hook up to a PC and load it that way. I need a rookie, easy way to do this.
Thanks!!!
You most likely have either rooted or removed at least 1 pre-installed application. That would cause the EL30 update not to install. You can find the .zip file in both the General and Development forums.
If you have rooted or removed any pre-installed apps, then the stock .zip file won't install for you. You would need to make sure you're on a custom kernel for your current build (most likely EC05 or EI22), get CWM 5 installed and then install one of the near stock roms in the Dev forum.
Yea, it was so long ago, I dont know if it is rooted or not? I have been away from this stuff for quite a while and have completely lost touch. CW5? is that an app that I can install directly from the SD card? Also, does the dev forum have ROM's that I can install from SD as well? - sorry for all the questions!

Yes... you would know it if you clicked on it. Just don't start a new thread there. Read, and it'll all make sense.

Go to your Settings > About Phone to see what your baseband, kernel and OS build are.
Yes the dev forum has kernels and roms available for you to flash. Google search "QBKing77 youtube channel" to get how-to videos for doing everything.
Baseband = your modem version. This is completely independent of your kernel and OS and can be a different version from those two.
Kernel & OS build = these must match in build #. Example would be EC05, EI22 and EL30. Some custom kernel's do not include the build # on the About Phone screen, but stock would.
CWM = ClockworkMod Recovery. This is a custom recovery tool that allows you to flash custom roms, kernels, mods and themes.
Easiest way to see if you're rooted is to look for the application Superuser in your application list. If it's there, then you're most likely rooted.
is there a way to unroot this handset and allow the sprint update to come thru? If not, what is the name of a good (stock) gingerbread ROM? There are a ton of them over on the dev side and honestly I dont want to mess with he clockwork stuff. Im kinda pinched for time.
I did find the CWM5 zip - i assume i can run that directly from the SD card, then apply the new ROM.
no superuser... know that I think back, I dont think I did root it. But I dont know why else the carrier update wont work?
ok, I just looked @ the current version(s).
BASEBAND: d700.0.55.DK28
KERNAL:2.6.32.9
BUILD: FROYO.DK28
so, what is going to be the easiest way to get this to EL30?
I am almost done bothering you guys - I promise!
Odining the el30 stock package and flashing an ec05 modem and then flashing the ec05 to el30 delta
Ill offer to do it for you in a little over 15 minutes if you'd like via teamviewer

The modem is if I want to tether - correct? If I dont want to tether, then I dont have to flash the modem portion ?
No the modem is what allows for reciveing signal
Usually the most updated modem allows for better signal

Dad gave me his Galaxy tablet 10.1 from Korea, should I root?

Ok,
So my dad gave me his galaxy tablet 10.1 from korea and the following is some information:
MODEL: SHW-M38OS
32GB WIFI 3G
White Color
Android Version: 3.2
Build number
HTK75D.EK10 SHW-M38OS.Ek10.1321
I thought as long as I changed the language to English, I should be all set until I tried to download netflix on google play and it told me its not downloadable in my country...Except i live in California. I understand that it still thinks im in korea i guess.
If I want this to work 100% in the US, should I root it and put a custom rom in it? recommendations?
defently yes!
Hey I dont see a reason for not rooting your Tab
There are so many great Rom's out there that its harder to decide wich rom to flash than the decision of rooting or not I think.
I mean you can even get Android 4.1.2 for our beloved Tab - AOKP is running very stable and fast with lots of working tweaks!
But if you don't want to root, try a stock rom that fits your location.
You can find severel stock roms on sammobile.com
So its up you
You can stuck with the chains of your device's stock rom or
feel the freedom with a rooted custom rom of your choice!

[Q] First time Tablet/Android buyer.

Hello all,
I just ordered a new Note 10.1 from Costco.com (32 gig) and from reading reviews and such I was thrown into the world of rooting. For my job, we were given iPhones so I've really only had an iPhone and am used to the iOS. Not a fan. Have always wanted to try Android but have never been thrown into it.
Are there any good guides out there to help me better understand rooting, etc.? I understand that you have to unlock it, then flash a custom ROM. What happens when the newer version of that ROM comes out? Do you lose all of your Data? Can any mod be installed on any ROM? I just don't have a good understanding of how or what to do. Granted, I don't even have the tablet yet, however, I don't want to be completely lost when I get it. I do like the idea of rooting, given that you can install powerful apps that are only offered to rooted tablets.
This is my first post here and am hoping for some helpful responses of maybe some threads that I should read to help me understand things better.
Also, where do you find custom ROMS? Is there a certain section you have to go? Or are all the custom ROMS under the ANDROID DEVELOPMENT forum?
Thanks for the help.
Rooting gives you access to the base files of your device. Your device does not need to be "unlocked." That term refers to modifying the device to work with other carriers (i.e. Sprint, ATT, etc) other than the one it was built to work with. Basically, in order to root, you must first install a custom "recovery." CWM (Clockwork Mod Recovery) is probably the best one for our Notes. The recovery files can be downloaded in the development forums. Along with the program (Odin) that you use to get the recovery installed onto your Note. Once you have CWM installed you can then use a couple of different methods to root or install a custom rom that is already rooted (again look for these roms in the development areas of this forum). Make sure that you read and re-read the instructions that each developer lists on their forum until you feel comfortable and then follow the instructions to the letter! Not doing so can result in your Note really getting messed up. I have not rooted my note yet, however I have rooted and installed custom ROMs to several android phones that I have or have had and it can be really worth it to do so. Personally I am waiting for awhile with my Note for some easier and more reliable methods and ROMs to become available. Right now, I have a Samsung Infuse phone with CM10 installed and a Samsung Captivate with Slim Rom-Jellybean on it. I believe that early versions of both of these ROMs are already available for the Note 10.1. Of the two ROMs, I would probably go with CM10 - (Cyanogen Mod) as it seems to be more stable on my phones. Also, when you install a custom ROM on the Note 10.1, there is a binary counter that advances, that lets anyone who would have to work on it (like for warranty service), know that a custom ROM was installed and that would violate your warranty. There is already a modification available (again, in the development section), that resets this counter, so make sure that you research that too! Good Luck!!!

What are some of the main benefits to rooting then? I would think that if you have rooted a lot of phones you would for sure want your tablet rooted..?? Can you still perform mods to your tablet if it's NOT rooted? I saw someone with a cube on their homescreen with all their apps on it. It was 3D and pretty sweet looking. Will I be able to do stuff like that if I keep it stock.
Another thing, I read that you can't put apps on the expandable storage unless you root it...That is something I would like to do because I plan on putting games on it and such. Seems crappy you can't install some of the bigger apps on your 64 gig sd.
A lot is going to depend on which version of software you get initially on your tablet. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT let your tablet update the software when you first get it. The reason I say this is, if you have the older version of the software there is a very simple way to root your device. It's a simple install of one program and pushing a button. Very very easy.
If you get lucky and you get the older software and then root using the program I'm talking about, the next step is to spend $5 and buy Mobile Odin Pro. You can then download from here the latest software for your device and flash it using Mobile Odin with the ever root option. This will keep root on your new software. This will put you on the latest stock software and keep you rooted.
Custom ROMs can be nice. But I'd get my feet wet with the stock ROM before you start to jump into the Customs. First, stock on the Note 10.1 is pretty damn good. Second, you need to have some familiarity with what you want to be able to choose the right custom ROM to suit your needs. Finally, you'll give yourself some time to learn about your device so that you don't make a fatal mistake flashing, though most can be flashed using Mobile Odin.
Alas, if you get your Note and it turns out to have the latest ROM already, you can pretty much ignore everything I wrote.

Another thing, once I root it, will I be able to have the Tablet automatically update and download 4.3, 4.4, etc. and so on? or will I have to manually download and install the new one every time it comes out?

I have rooted several phones but not this tablet. Why? because for me the stock rom is good enough that I personally dont see an advantage to rooting it. Some like to root and install roms for the fun of it but I need the tablet to work and dont have time to futs around with getting to know a new rom.
I also have the impression, correct me if I'm wrong, that with custom roms you loose some of the multiscreen functionality and some of the pen functionality? If true that alone would keep me on stock.

There's more reasons to root other than just flashing custom ROMs. As a matter of fact, you really don't even have to root to install a custom ROM, you just need a custom recovery installed.
Personally I'm fine with the stock ROM on this tablet even though I run custom ROMs on my phones. I did have a custom ROM installed for a few weeks that was little more than the stock ROM with a few tweaks. It didn't lose any functionality with regards to multi-screen or pen. But some of the other more customized ROMs do lose functionality.

no, it leaves the firmware as is and it simply gives you root access, i.e. administrative control over just about all processes that the tablet is capable of. It also allows you to flash custom ROMS. that method, along with the exynos exploit method ( not possible on 4.1.2), leave you as close to stock as possible . and leaves the official recovery. Someone will undoubtedly correct me if I am wrong, but so long as you don't flash a custom ROM, I believe you can still update through OTA. I know you can through KIES. If you do go with a custom ROM, I'm pretty sure you lose all the touch wiz goodies, like multi screen as another noted above. and likely would have to use ODIN or mobile ODIN to update.

Custom apps such as multi window manager. Custom roms if you wish. Overclock cpu with tegrak on stock rooted, it does sometimes come in handy to be safely overclocked. personally this tablet is so good off the shelf you dont NEED a custom rom but that overclock is good. Ability to access and change root files such as dolphin preference in order to make it work with flash player. More reliable backups of apps and data with titanium backup. There are a plethera of reasons for rooting a tablet. But do be cautious.
Don't forget you need root for AdAway. You also need root if you want to play around (very dangerous) with the build.prop file to try to install programs that the Play Store says aren't compatible.

The 3d cube things I think your talking about are scroll effects, like cube, sphere or card stack. You dont need to be rooted for these, you can just download a launcher (nova, apex, adw) from the play store and change the effects in there.

One more question about that link. So once I follow the instructions provided in the link to root my Note 10.1, will I still have the custom ROM? And, will I be able to auto update from Samsung or whoever whenever a new version of the Android ROM comes out? I don't necessarily care about having someones custom ROM, I just want the benefits of using the GAPPS that I wouldn't be able to use if I wasn't rooted.
Thanks.

To answer you and the gentleman above... Australia will probably be the last country on earth to get the update as usual. So we might have to reside to getting it of some kind developer who uploads it here somewhere.
If you do wish to get updates you should go back to stock firmware (probably the first backup you made for your telstra 4.1.2) doesn't matter if it's rooted. Connect your phone to the PC and have KIES installed. Click update firmware and update (done, it will automatically unroot your phone and put back the stock recovery). You can easily update after that.

Well now...I've been holding off playing with rooting my phone (as I'm new to 'droid and have an awful lot to learn, but have come a LONG way in 2 weeks) as I was expecting Telstra to release an update. Since that appears NOT to be forthcoming, Ill consider the various root options, none of which are particularly appealing at the moment mainly as it seems no-one has a stock ROM for this phone online and I can't backup mine without root. Catch 22 it seems. Information on locked bootloaders, Telstra ROM mods, rooting the 7105 "T" version is VERY limited
So...if anyone happens to have a link for a ROM copy please let me know.
(Or info on a rooting technique that works)
Ultimately every one on xda will be using the custom 4.3 rom for the note 3 goodies because Samsung will not be releasing those features in it's official release

Okay I will explain what I done for you...
When I first rooted my Galaxy Note 2 in May, I was a new-comer to android, I had an iPhone for a long time. What I done was root my phone, I Odin installed TWRP after rooting because I really don't like CWM (those are the names of the 'recoveries' available), they will replace the default Samsung recovery. Just make sure you get TWRP. I think it's up to TWRP 2.6.3
Well yeah let's get back to the topic, as soon as I rooted I used TWRP to make a backup of my default Telstra ROM (completely with EFS, MODEM, basically tick everything you can possibly backup).
I took that backup and put it on my laptop and on my PC and I kept a copy on my external card the whole time. That was the best idea, any time I ever had any problems with my phone I went back to that backup. I even soft bricked my phone once and after hours of panicking I realised I can just Re-install the default backup, and it fixed my phone.
Oh and I just recently un-rooted my phone to check for updates. All I done was use SuperSU to do an UNROOT. Then went into recover, restored the original backup I made of the Telstra ROM. Plugged my phone into the PC, and used Samsung KIES to check for firmware update. It just restarted my phone, removed TWRP recovery, re-installed the samsung one, and it removed the root completely and I'm basically went back to my original telstra ROM. I can go into settings and check for updates and everything. (I can confirm there is no update as of yet).
AS for your other QUESTION.
ALL THE ROMS in the N7105 Section will WORK with your N7105T Model. It's the same thing. JUST WATCH OUT and make sure you never install N7100 ROMS (They will soft-brick and could hard-brick your phone).
Thanks for the input.
I've been considering between 3, namely CF AutoRoot, Galaxy Note Toolkit And (exploit based) Framaroot, with a bias towards Toolkit so far ( as it specifies the 7105 "T" variant).
But if you've actually ODINed a GT-7105T (Telstra) with CWP without issues, I'll certainly consider that.
Any one else care to chime in on this (if you've done the same phone/telco only though !)
I've come far enough to understand rooting, boot processes, CWM/TWRP, exploits AND the importance of picking the exact model !
I'll take the plunge when I get enough input to decide.

It's not that hard really, you can't really mess it up if you follow the instructions... Hey root it whichever way you see fit, whatever you think is easier for you, don't listen to me. But I do highly recommend you get TWRP for backing up and formatting and installing your ROMS. Also I recommend PAC-MAN it's a good ROM, but it's not very stable at the moment (kind of).

Don't take offense at my asking for multiple inputs. I just don't want to brick at $600 phone needlessly
I've now sourced a ROM from Sammobile and downloaded it last night.
I'm backing up settings and stuff tonight and will run with Galaxy Note 2 Toolkit tomorrow (I went PRO) and go for option 3 - THE LOT !
Hopefully it'll all go ok.

Haha you don't go pro over night my friend. Hope it all went all, if you have any issues or like to share your experience with the ROMS let us know.

Well, I did the deed last night with Toolkit PRO and it all went smoothly. No Telstra or Samsung nasties reared their heads PLUS there wasn't a yellow triangle either !
That's the trouble with being in Oz. It's such a small market and REAL information is very hard to come by...so one is very cautious !
Anyway thanks for your assistance :victory:

I Odin flashed mine straight out of the box before I even set it up pulled backup and kept stock rom for warranty only.. these phones are pretty much unbrickable to an extent just don't go trying flashing n7100 roms and you'll be fine at&t roms are ok too just don't flash their bootloaders or even try to.. I change roms daily and have for like the last 2 years on my original note plus HTC's if your unsure on anything this place is helpful more than bloody Samsung

Possible to Root Tab 4 8.0 T330NU running 5.1.1 or?? Can I downgrade to kitkat

all you need to know..
Worked great for me, installed the Kernel with the fixed IR blaster and I have root.
Since XPosed doesn't work though, I don't quite know what fun things I can do with root. I used to love tweaking things with XPosed, eliminated the need for a custom ROM for minor stuff but with 5.1.1 I haven't found much to do with root yet.
Oh I was able to use titanium to backup my apps, that was exciting
I might just sell the Tab 4 and get a Nexus instead, at least I can get the latest Android quickly with that.

I tried and worked my ass off to attempt to produce a Deodexed version of this rom.. Deodexing is easy, but packaging the rom and with a proper Update Script is something that is at this time beyond my skill set.. I have been working in Ubuntu using ArchiKitchen and had some success, but It won't boot.. So I decided to give my tablet to a friend to use for a while.. I went back to my Trusty Nexus 7 to which is super easy to develop for.. Everyone has quit the T330NU as far as I know, and I just don't have the patients or the time.. Everyone is going back to school this fall and THEY don't have the time.. There will no more development for this device unless some new blood comes into the picture.. My suggestion, sell your tablet on Ebay and buy a Nexus 9..
Edit: My suggestion, Use ODIN to flash the Stock 4.4.2 and use the Chainfire Autoroot.. There is a old Stock rom floating around called Stocked.. I suggest using that.. Its the best we have.. The best we will ever have..

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I was actually looking at how much I can have for it and use that money to partly pay for a Nexus 9. I was already saving up for one but someone gave me the T330NU for free so I could not say no of course. I did not expect that there would be almost nothing for it on XDA.
I'll take a look at that "Stocked" ROM. It's downloading right now. It'll be that or pure stock 5.1.1 without root since there isn't much to do with root on that version anyways.

To flash stock, you need to Flash the official Samsung 4.4.2 firmware first through ODIN, flash recovery and flash Chainfire's Autoroot..
Then you can flash Stocked.. Its pretty decent, but the guy who developed it.. up and quit.. Seems like a common thing for this device..
It's cursed.. From here on in.. I will NEVER purchase another Samsung device again.. Either HTC or LG.. Never Samsung..

I'm trying to download the stock 4.4.2 firmware but all I'm getting are those free/premium download sites where either doesn't download or downloads at 10k per second. I'll find it though and I'm putting the tablet in the classifieds as I do that

The Auto-Root doesn't install, phil's recovery just unpacks the file and says installation aborted.
I tried to install TWRP via ODIN but it doesn't work, when I boot to recovery all I get is a black screen.
EDIT : Never mind, got TWRP to work now.
EDIT 2 : CF-AR is ODIN flashable... DUh!
DONT FLASH THE ZIP!! Unzip it, and flash the .TAR.MD5, in ODIN..

Everything worked and I even forgot how fast applications install on Dalvik. Definitely more options for Xposed so some satisfaction in having root!
I'll still try to sell it for 250$ with the 64GB memory car I have for it. Won't pay for a Nexus 9 but will cover most of it. I love that the N9 is made by HTC, definitely my brand, I just wish it was smaller. Love the format of the N7 except for the wide bezel.
Well I got lucky last night, maybe a week or 2 so I will have a Stock Deodexed LP ROM coming..
Not to get your hopes up.. I got lucky last nite with the update script.. Step by step.. Right now its just a recompiled rom from the TAR to Zip..
I will work on Deodexing, then debloating, making one full install, and one lite.. That will be Deknoxed.. Edit, Rooted as well..
Edit: I still have a ways to go..

Right now I have 3 versions that I'm working on, but since I'm not at my Desktop and away from home, even though its just on the other side of town.. Ill be back monday.. I have all 3 versions ready to test.. Since I'm not home I can't test them.. They will be ready when I'm sure I got everything.. Once released I will then in time make add ons .
I'm currently running and testing the Stock, Deodexed only for the moment.. I will be using Moonbutt74's Kernel, or just make it a flashable addon.. I havent decided.. I don't like the idea of taking someone elses work and injecting it into mine.. I'm on vacation so Ill be busy for a few days.. I have one glitch that didn't come out well during the Deodexing process.. Google drive was popping up and force closing.. So I had to uninstall it.. So I might just add that to the debloat list.. Once I'm confident this is all good.. I'll create my own thread.. I'm temped to send a teaser, but I want to bring it out knowing it works as good as it should..

That's a lot of progress, very encouraging. I put my T330NU for sale, trying to get 250$ for it but I might not get more than 200 which is fine, it'll cover the cost for a Nexus 7

I still use my Nexus 7 2013 with a always fresh copy of Blisspop.. I will hold on to that tablet until it croaks..
I use it mainly as a Internet Diagnostic tool..
