worth buying on amazon? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

well i guess amazon will not ever sell the nexus 7 unless google contacts them and tell them they want to sell their tablets through amazon, of course google (and apple) would never do that. 3rd party sellers are selling the 16 gig version for about $300, i thought that's crazy but i remember i have to pay tax and shipping if i buy from google play store, i live in california, anyone live in CA bought this tablet from google play store? what was the total cost including tax and shipping? do they have free shipping?
the reason i want to buy on amazon is because i have some money in my gift card balance, this seems like a good tablet to buy,

I live in CA and tax and shipping brought it to $287.

I dare say you're better off buying it locally or directly from Google. At least for me it gives me some peace of mind.

Buy locally. You will avoid the shipping costs. You can buy online from Walmart, Office Depot/Max, or Staples & "ship site to store" & avoid shipping too. Also, when you buy locally, if there is a problem with the screen, you can return/exchange immediately.

ouch.. In MA it only cost me $278.
@OP, I too was hoping Amazon would be a reseller because I also have available amazon giftcards.. but the 3rd party sellers just wanted too much.

Best place to buy transformer

So i want to buy the transformer today, and i was wondering where is the best place to buy? I am in the US, in IL, but because of the quality control issues, I want to be able to take it back if I have to. Also, price is an issue, as it seems to vary. A lot of places have it online, but do any stores carry it yet? As for online companies, they are ok, but it would be nice to at least have a store to return to if i need to..I guess another issue would be getting one of the newer models that might have fixed the power cord issues and some QC issues. I searched for an answer, but I didn't find anything really giving advice on where to buy, now that it is actually in stock in some places...thanks!
Amazon.com. Why pay sales tax? I'm in IL also so I share your pain of living in such a crappy state.
lol i hear ya...especially cook county...but amazon only has them for 453 right now? seems like the price keeps moving around...i have prime too so i would do it, but the extra 50 bucks kills it
Newegg.com

I seem to be having problems with my pms for some reason...i just sent you a message . Are you visioninc on ebay? cause i have a coupon for ebay so i might just use that for your listing. Few questions though...do you have light bleed at all and to what degree, or dead pixels? and do you have a receipt you could give me for the warranty? Why are you getting rid of it? thanks...
Amazon or Newegg for sure. No taxes and 30-day return/refund with no restocking fee!
I bought mine from Toys R Us on Wednesday for 399.99, plus they gave me a $25 dollar gift card that I used towards the purchase. I'm loving my Transformer so far! I just wish I could figure out how to Tether it with my Blackberry
I got mine in Fry's Burbank, CA. Have not run into any problems with it so far and have not seen and noticeable bleeding either.
Got mine at Newegg for $389 with no tax and free shipping by registering a new accounts and using the "newcustomer10" coupon. Not much of a savings but it was the best deal I could find until the TD one yesterday.
Newegg was also was willing to cross ship when I had to exchange my first Transformer due to some defects.
I bought my 32GB from Amazon. The 16GB was $50 more than the original price. I would recommend Best Buy.

Amazon always sell at retail price. The over-retail must have been a 3rd-party seller.
And yes, Amazon are definitely the best place to buy from now that the shortage is over. Amazing customer service and 30-day hassle-free return.

Psugtooq, are you saying that Newegg sent you a replacement before they received the damaged one back???
I ended up going with newegg...good call on the new customer code...i used it also...amazon had the 16gb 50 over and it was direct through them...i know its not normal but it was so....newegg has been good in the past and I heard alot of crap about td and their shipping...plus it was through ebay too and that can get interesting...great price though

Yep. After I sent back the defective one, I went into live chat and politely asked that Newegg send out a replacement immediately as I didn't want to have to wait 2 weeks for them to process the RMA and issue an exchange. The rep told me to call their customer service 1-800 number and ask for an "advanced replacement." I did so and a replacement was sent out the next day with their standard 3 day shipping (arrived in 2). Their was no additional charge, just the stipulation that my CC will be charged if the original isn't received within 30 days.

Galaxy nexus 409 @ expansys

Not sure if the google play deal is out, but I can't find it anywhere (maybe because im outside us) but for those who can't get one for 400 buy here
http://www.expansys-usa.com/google-nexus-prime-android-smartphone-unlocked-16gb-224148/
Did they raise the price? would have sworn they (expansys) were selling it for 399.99 a while back.
Yes they did raise the price, I was going to buy one last week and then I saw it went up by ten bucks so I didn't buy it. Haha

Keep an eye on their eBay store, they frequently have good prices on open box phones. Just saw One X for ~ $540

I don't see why $10 completely change your mind. If you buy from Play Store its about $435 after the tax and shipping.

It's 409 from the play store for me, so for some it makes no sense to go through expansys. I would also say even if I had to pay tax the extra $25 would be worth having a warranty.

Just remember that if you have a Staples in your state you have to pay taxes.
This deal would still cost me about 270$
yea tax is the big killer.. but at least free shipping. too bad I missed out on the J&R deal someone else posted.
Staples' expected delivery date is interesting. Not sure if this implies delivery for all pre-orders or this is for Staples only.
Cool find, i would be buying a Nexus 7 since i no longer want android phones
We're so spoiled in Oregon, no Sales Tax and it's against the law for us to pump our own gas, we have to sit and let the attendants do it for us.
Thanks for the finds!
You really could have mentioned that it takes them 24 hours to generate the coupon code and it's not an instant ordeal.

Anyone pre-ordered Nexus 7 from Staples.com ?
I am seeing this in my order status.
We're sorry, but problems with your order may prevent us from delivering it on time.
That is probably because Google told everyone to wait until they said so

this last minute hold is messing up those vendor's check out process. The word is most places will start taking new per-order and shipping again next week.
Updated some free item coupon on 1st page you can use on your office depot order.
walmart is starting the pre-order as well with less than $1 shipping. see 1st post for details.
For those asking if you still get the $25 google wallet credit the answer is YES :good:
Staples is now taking orders on the website with 2 day delivery, you can also locate stores that have it in stock, but call the store first as the store I tried today said they weren't allowed to sell until next week (probably Monday) even though they have them in stock.
If "you" work for Walmart you can get 10% off, and you can pay when pickup at Walmart now s mabey preorder and pay when pickup at site to store

What other stores will sell the Nexus 10?

When the Nexus 7 was released it was/is sold in several brick and mortar stores, but only the 16gb version.
I'd like to buy the Nexus 10 from Best Buy as I have several gift cards there. For some reason the Nexus 7 was never sold by Best Buy USA at all. (BB Canada supposedly had them)
What other stores will the Nexus 10 be sold at? Any news on this? I like to try things out before I spend a big chunk of change on them.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Save your gift cards for video games! Save some tax $$ ($25 bucks for me) and get it from Google directly or Newegg. If you've used any other Android tablet then the Nexus 10 will be better than that (one exception might be the Transformer Infinity).
They would still pay the same tax if they bought $400 in videos games or a $400 tablet.
Newegg taxes me (NJ), and I think Google does as well. Amazon is where it's at for me... until next summer when the North Jersey Governor's plan to gain 20 jobs from Amazon in order to promote double dipping on taxes (I have problems with sales tax).
Walmart (only 32GB available).

Are Amazon deals real?

I want to buy the Nexus 4 16GB and I found a good deal on Amazon: US$471 - Phone +Screen protector + case
I'm a little skeptical as it looks too good to be true, do you guys think I should take it up? Because I'm worried I'll get scammed
Sent from my Nexus 7
I don't see how that's a good deal. The 16GB costs about $360 (inc. shipping) at the Play Store and a screen protector + case shouldn't cost more than $10, so about $370 total. If it's not a scam, it's at least a ripoff.
I'd bet the deal is real cause Amazon's a pretty distinguished company but I'm positive the shipping time won't be ideal lol
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Yeah that is not a very good deal, buy from the play store and get accessories separate.

If the phone is sold by amazon and not a third party seller than you will be fine, amazon wont scam you. that's a pretty good deal if the play store doesnt sell the Nexus 4 in Singapore.
One downside is that you cannot contact google for warranty exchange, you will have to go through LG and maybe even only US LG warranty center if you buy a US Nexus 4. With LG you have to ship your defective phone and wait a few weeks but with google they will ship out the replacement and you ship back the defective one once you get it.
Do you know if google is planning on selling the Nexus 4 in your country? if they are i would wait or even play a bit more to get it through google.
sometimes....
