Does rooting Droid 2 on Stock 2.3.4 (621) fix sbf flashing? - Droid 2 General

So I know that the OTA update 2.3.4 (621) made flashing sbfs impossible due to it leading to a bricked phone, but if you use the new root method and successfully root the D2, does it fix this and make it possible to flash sbfs? For those who don't know, this is the new root method.

I don't think I can post links yet so just copy paste that into your search bar, or a higher ranked user post the link.

You can still flash sbfs you just can't downgrade thanks to the new bootloader

you are stuck with 621, and can only flash 621 sbf
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium

If there is ever another update (highly doubt there ever will be) he/she could sbf that one too

i was trying to stick with what's avalible
a new update is about as likely as unlocking bootloader

When I had froyo, my x was rooted with z4root. Used this because Im not sure how to root the old fashioned way. is there any way I can 1-click root my x now that it has gingerbread? Tried gingerbreak with no luck.

If you took the OTA update then you can't root it. The only way is to sbf back to froyo and install P3DROID 2 part pre rooted gb

OTA Gingerbread can't be rooted using methods such as z4root and Gingerbreak.
To root Gingerbread you must SBF back to .340 and flash a prerooted version of Gingerbread.
If I can find the thread at My Droid World be containing the file and the instructions I will PM the link to you.

One way would be to sbf to froyo and then upgrade via ota. I don't know if there is a gingerbread sbf out there. Search the forum for how to sbf and google for the file.

Flashed wrong rom

So I recently bought a droid x, I currently own an evo shift.. so I rooted the droid and installed boostrap x.. now I nandroided and proceeded to flash miui.us 1.10.21, so upon completion phone is stuck at the M screen... now I go into recovery via "home and "power" but I can't flash any rom besides and update.zip... I was on stock 2.2.1 which is my problem since its GB rom... my question what can I do to boot my phone up?? Any insight would be great..

You have to SBF.
Google for instructions on how to do so, it's really easy and returns your phone to stock.

Thanks I will def try that...
Update: sbf work flawless... now my question is... if I want to flash miui.us do I use boostrap X or 2?

Use Droid 2 Bootstrapper.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Are you on froyo stock or gingerbread stock? Because if you are using a newer version of MIUI and on the froyo kernel then youll get stuck on the bootlogo. One good way to tell if youre on froyo or gingerbread is by the boot logo, red moto=gingerbread; white moto=froyo
if ur on froyo u use dx bootloader, if ur on gb u use d2 bootstrap

I find that Droid 2 Bootstrapper works just as well on Froyo.

Sorry for the late reply.. I had a hard time getting my phone to take the sbf.. I was stuck on the boot logo (red) andqould not tke the sbf.. I finally was able to revert back to sbf. 340.. now I wanna goto miui as that was I wad running on my shift.. I've read I need to sbf to. 602 first.. so do I need to do that first or can I just flash miui from. 340?

Downgrade ability?

I've never flashed any sbf. Neither fixed nor full.. what I did was just installed 2ndinit on stock froyo, Installed cm7 then miui and I'm now on ms2ginger 2.1. So this means that I cannot downgrade to froyo anymore right?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
yes u can!!

Easiest way is to flash 2.2 SBF from you region/carrier. You can where to download and flash them in the sticky threads.

Downgradability is lost only when you flash an official motorola SBF of a higher version using RSDLite in bootloader mode. Custom ROMs (CWM zips, Nandroids) don't affect downgradability.
Oh thank you so much ...

You should find here all info's about DEFY, but the short story about the bootloader is that, the locked bootloader prevents average users from damaging their phone on the software side, but it blocks all real development from dev's. The unlocked bootloader let's you do anything....almost to your phone and so dev's can really modd it as they want. Hope this helped.
Can i still downgrade if i install MSginger 3.0?
Yes u can downgrade your firmware

The way to get root found! Install sbf from attached archive and then use the "DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su" (also attached in the archive) to get root. All thanks for finding this method going to bukolov1 from Ukraine.

Why is the sbf file labeled as 809_2.3.5 if it is for the DX and supposed to be 4.5.621?
This rom is actually for the Milestone X, it does flash, however I cannot use *228 to get my phone on the network.
Has anyone tried zergrushing their .621?

This is not really a root method. This flashes Milestone X rom on the Droid X, which does actually root, but the baseband is incompatible and will not work in the U.S. So you can have a rooted phone, which you can't actually use. It might be possible to CWM over the Milestone X ROM and flash a new baseband.. if I could find one.

I've heard of people using the file to SBF via Linux then flash CM9 and have a working radio.

I have not tried it, I'm being safe and not taking the OTA.
If you are on .621, though, it's at least worth a shot.

This method works. My DX's version is 621, you can remove RADIO in MB809_2.3.5.SBF use "SBFCodec.exe", remove RDL1 and CG3, save this file as no radio SBF, flash this to your DX, your DX will run under BP_C_01.09.15P, this is Verizon's baseband.
yup, it works.

This method does work. If you use the linux sbf_flash method it will not overwrite the baseband and you will keep your data connection. If you use RSD_Lite in Windows it will overwrite the baseband and you will lose your data connection capabilities.
I made my laptop a dual boot with Windows and Ubuntu just for this because I was stuck on .621 without root and had tried to flash the Milestone X .604 via Windows and couldn't get the data to work (I could've called Verizon support and had them reset it but I decided to give flashing in linux a go). So I followed posted instructions at the other sites and flashed it in linux and got root back with baseband still active.
Now I'm test driving a CM9 beta on it I got off of Rootzwiki. I am already up for renewal for my Verizon contract so I can get almost any phone they have for free or perhaps $100 out of pocket after all the discounts (new every two, loyalty, trade in of current phone) but I am waiting for the Droid Fighter to drop in about a month. It's rumored to be a quad-core Motorola phone with a 4.7 inch screen and 4G.
User 1KDS over at DroidXForums is working on making a bootable linux image (he already has a bunch) that will incorporate this Milestone X sbf for those of us that do not or did not have a linux machine handy.
Does petes root tool not work on this version?
