Goodbye Shift - EVO Shift 4G General

I thought there was a thread for this but I can't seem to find it. I officially bought the Evo LTE. I loved my shift, but I'm a flashaholic and not much going on around here. My shift keyboard got super loose and I went to BB to get it fixed. They sent it off and gave me a loaner phone. I have had too many problems with this phone, so onto the bigger phone. I will be missing that keyboard and the close community here. If anyone wants to buy the refurb phone PM me. I won't be taking the plastic off or anything, I have original box still. Goodbye all, nice knowing you guys. Special shoutout goes to Prboy. Didn't know you well, but you were ALWAYS there to help out, and usually the first to help. Thanks

Thank you . The Shift community is among the Best I've ever been a part of. Have fun with your new EVO 4G LTE, and remember to stop in once in a while .

Time to let go????

I have had my slide for a very long time now. I feel like development is coming to a crawl. CM7 will never have flash integration even though we keep getting upgraded versions of android. The CM7 forum is floaded with issues the last time I peeked. Gotta love those guys for giving us hope and their time. The Alpharev 2 looks super promising kinda wish chiefreloadz and other dev's would take a peek at it to give us life. I am at a point where getting a new phone is inevitable. Wish I could setup a poll via my slide to see how many people feel the same way. How many of you feel the same or disagree with me.

I feel the same way too. The slide really is a powerful device. I'm really upset it died so quickly.
Yeaaa and I'm especially dissapointed w/ the lack of custom kernels. I see so many devices w/ a wide variety of custom kernels (new and old phones), but this one only has 2 (dumfuq and miguel). I root other peoples phones and do overclocking and such, and I c all these kernels to choose from, while this device only has 2 kernels, even lower end devices have more kernels than this..

The slow of progress in the Slide has driven me to new levels in the android world. I have made many sad attempts at creating my own Roms from source...as well as several successful attempts at modifying a ROM to fit my needs...as well as creating batch files to do most of the the work for me when it comes to nightlies, but nothing original. I am sad to to see this phone in the state it is since this is the second phone I've had of the android family. (I've hacked many others for the purpose of profit) I still use and maintain several G1s...which re-enforces my dismay over the staleness of this device. My next buy is a G2x (LG Optimus 2x). I could wait for the 3D line in the next year but my boredom has eclipsed my interest 10 fold. I plan on passing this phone on to my wife when she gets home from active duty in South Korea. So all is not lost. I know this doesn't even belong in this sub-topic of the forum but I thought it worth sharing my opinion on.
Well in my attempt of waiting for several things to happen I just went online and pre-ordered my WIFI Motorola Xoom. I am very excited hoping this will not have me thinking about my slide that often awaiting the next best thing. I also have a Nokia Maemo phone which the firmware will be updated to Meego by the end of April so its a matter of waiting I guess. Well hopefully this thread will bring things back to life if not then I would like to say goodbye to my slide by the end of the year and get myself a new phone with more power yada yada. lol. Anways...
can someone send me miguel's kernel?
or tell me where I can find it?
i can't get my hands on it...
As for the HTC Slide. I just upgraded from my Motorola Cliq a few weeks ago.
It's definitely a big hardware boost, but the dev support is certainly less.

Actually they removed that thread a long time ago,the only way to get it is to get it from someone who has it.
As for the slide I still have mine and it's running strong. It's a nice little phone and I don't think support for it will fade entirely for a while, there's just not much else that needs to be done to improve it thanks to cyanogen.

looks like the admins did a great job of wiping him off the face of xda
I actually posted a comment similar to this thread in the Gingersense thread. But yes I feel as if upgrading handsets will be the only way to get that "new phone" feeling I had got when first flashing cm6 and cm7 .
Edit: also this phone has yet to reach a year in age.(june or July)
And as far as flashplayer, its not the roms that don't support it but the UI. Sense UI was flash lite compatible but only armv7 processors are full flash capable.

Im sure most know, but maybe not the original poster, that this is not the place for this. Yes, you are talking about devs and roms and what-not, but this has nothing to add to the development community.
Yes, the slide does lack devs unfortunately. It is very sad that many devs did not take an interest in this device early on and those that did lost interest. I personally dont get it since i love this device. But the last thing to do is to complain about all that and just leave it at that. One of you said you tried to tinker with roms. Great! Thats what we need. We need people to get off their asses and take initiative. Lack of devs led me to attempt the port gingersense. I do not call myself a dev since i know 0 code and simply just know a few tricks, but at least i try. I would like to see more people start tinkering. If you love your slide, keep it alive. If you think you dont have the time, thats on you. I personally have a full time carreer which has crazy hours and a nearly full term pregnant wife (which means i have to do nearly everything around the house).
If you read this all, thx, i hope this sticks with someone.
Oh yeah, and admin plz move to appropriate section XD

I agree with most of what's been said. There really isn't much else we can do with the slide. With everything that's available to us, we have it, and that's about it. Since no one likes the mid-range of the slide and they all want the high-end awesomeness of the newer phones, the slide has few people to share their roms and themes.
I've had my slide since the very start of the slide era, and it is great with CM7 it does everything you want from a daily phone. I feel like I want something more tho, everything seems outdated with all of the new software and apps out there, we can't use them because of the slides hardware. Sad that's it's only been a year since it came out and it's outdated..tho I suppose launching the Galaxy S right after the slide launch just made it seem outdated weeks after.
As soon as I'm available for an upgrade in April I will be switching to a new phone; which I think most of us, who just want something more, are doing.
I got my slide on June 4th 2010, the day it was available for customers. I have loved my slide since. I learned soooo much about the Android OS and its capabilities since owning my Slide. I absolutely love it and want to hang onto it for as long as possible. It does everything I need it to do and it does it fast. Doesn't Cyanogens wife have a slide? I would think he would continue devving for it until his wife switches phones. Just a thought
It is endlessly amusing to me that someone would rather buy a phone out right simply because development has stopped....
You know the point was for YOU to get involved... right?
Listen I agree this is probably not the place for this but its a great place to voice my opinion to dev's which there is a huge shortage for this phone (this is my sole opinion). I have learned a ton from my slide. My first android phone was a maemo phone with a rigged android version on it. That made me want to get the slide because of android. I apologize if I offended people but just voicing my opinion on a topic that has been an ongoing discussion for many of us slide users.

Just ordered a Nexus S, it's been a great experience guys!

Ah, buyers remorse is just setting in. I'm selling my Evo 4g and going to LED'er pastures. The Evo was my first smartphone, first android phone, first rooting experience. I'm going to miss it greatly.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this great sub-forum of XDA. Virus, Myn, Mik, Kush, I doubt you guys read the general forums, but each of you had a ROM that I swore by, after the holidays I hope to finally send each of you guys a donation (albeit a poor college student sized one).
*sniff* god, I'm going to miss this phone
Cool story bro.
Boo
I bought a Nexus S as well since it's more dev friendly and I dont regret it either. I do like my evo but it got kind of bland and all the problems I was having with the hardware on it, made me want to cry. >.<
You made the right choice my friend. Got this for my girlfriend and man my epic touch is jealous. Pure ICS nothing beats it right now. And phone runs pretty well.

Why not Galaxy Nexus?
Just switched to the NS4G as well. Had an upgrade burning a hole in my pocket and Sprint had them online for free. It's a great phone, but I'm not certain I'll be keeping it. ICS is cool and all, but does it really matter when I'm stuck on 1x all the time? Who knows, still have a week to try. May end up returning for the EpicTouch.
Couldn't give up the EVO though, I'll just use it as a wifi PMP. Just flashed MikG 3.0
Wife is getting the iPhone for Christmas, may have to trade her Evo for a NS4G to play with when I get burned out on the Evo.

I'd love to, but I don't have an upgrade, my traded my Evo in at Best Buy (Buy Back rules) and then sold the gift card online and used that money for the Nexus.
Not quite in that order...I still have the Evo and am trading it in tomorrow.

Did you flash ICS to the NS4G?
I thought the Galaxy Nexus was at least 3 months away for Sprint...

Goodbye nexy :(

I would like to thank all of the awesome devs here in the Nexus One forum. You've taken me from a android noob, to a not-so-noobish noob. I'm still learning but I've recently got a One X. My N1 went south when it took up smoking and well.... It blew up. That's what you get for overclocking it way to much. But I would like to thank each and everyone of you for being awesome. Nexus One, You honestly changed me as a person and opened a whole new goal in life.
Okay enough of the rambling, I'm off to enjoy my 1X.
Take care guys.

yeah thank you all
I bought XPERIA S
Evervolv for ICS rom
Sad... I'm going to change my phone soon too, but the Nexus 1 will stay in my heart!
Am i the only one noticing that Jay_Rulen said thanks for leaving? LOL So you think it is good of him to leave?
I moved on to the Galaxy SII and will miss my N1. Thanks for the good times everyone!
whoa that's really sad, nd its great that u got one x, which is a successor of our nexus one
I'm in a similar boat. I recently had to replace my N1, and it will be sorely missed. Especially the LED trackball! Sadly enough, the google nexus is too big for my taste, and I didn't really want to spend $400 up front on a new phone so I picked up another phone instead.
I've vowed though, that as long as the next Nexus device is sized more like what I prefer, I will buy it!
I can't believe it, but I'm saying goodbye to my trusty N1 too. I'm still going to keep it around for media stuff around the house, but I got to get me some of that LTE. And IMO, the HTC One X is the first phone that is a true successor to the Nexus One.

My N1 is still alive, but I have moved on to the galaxy nexus and I also find the screen is a little too big for my liking. Screen colour is also sub-par comparing to the N1, I never see proper white colour being displayed even after adjusting RGBs and gamma values.
I bought the japanese galaxy nexus for around $325usd, shipped to hong kong via yahoo auction jp a month ago.
Though I am still flashing different roms on my N1 to play with
Kept my N1
I still use the N1 when I travel and put prepaid SIM's or my own SIM in it. It is smaller than the Inspire and then the Galaxy Nexus that followed it. If it would take ICS, I would probably be using it more. I really like ICS over Gingerbread and the extra zip of the dual core.
Anyway, it stays in my travel bag as a spare.
Phil
that sucks man. but i'm looking at exchanging my n1 for 1x as well
i'm selling my last nexus one now. it's in perfect shape and i'll get around $300 US for it in my country where imports are closed. i got to sell it now or never! i've moved to a gnex but i'll miss my first real phone.
Same here ... I'm moving to GNex now that price is affordable ...
I'm a bit sad because I really enjoyed the first nexus ... It was a pleasure to play with hundreds of custom roms and get support from this awesome devs community.
Thanks to all you awesome guys!
I'm planning to sell my Nexus One,,as the First Android device, this Smartphone has served me with pleasure... The devs are awesome as well...But the world is changing..Need better Specs now..I will miss my Sexy Nexy the most !!

Bye Bye Nexus S...

Hey guys,
This is me saying Good bye, for now. I am retiring my Nexus S as of today. I have given it to my sister. It has been a good run over here. I had flashed every rom at least once. The rom I ended off with and given to my sister is the latest CM nightly. But like I said, I may be back (if she wants anything else).
There are many people who I want to thank and some I forgot the name, so
THANK YOU, - to whoever had ever helped me with anything.
The reason why I am moving on is because, I just wanted the Galaxy Nexus. I am mobilicity, so there are only a few amount of phones I like. The GNex seems like a good pick. I bought it, but then returned it the day after because it had lots of signal issues. NOw, i could have stayed with my NS but i decided just to get a new phone for the hell of it. The phone i got:
HTC Amaze 4G (see you in their forums..)
It is a very good phone and it works on mobilicity so i picked it. I bought the phone second hand and it was already pre rooted and is running beastmod v.2.3.0 Now, my goal now is to update the phone to ICS.
AGain, I would really miss you guys (I may be floating around an reading, but may not post)
Bye
I've heard good things about the Amaze. Sometimes ya just gotta move on. Congrats on the new toy!
Bye and enjoy your new phone

Bye evo! Sensation here I come!

Hello, I'm sy224048 and I recently joined this forum for the extensive amount of awesome roms that it has. Team dirt, I love you guys(no homo) for all the stuff you do for our og evo. You made this 4.3 inch screen run a tablet ui, you made some awesome tweaks that push my phone to the limit and beyond. Now, I have to move on to bigger things, the HTC sensation. I'm staying with HTC but I'm not going as far as the one x/s because of their problems like the lack of a micro sd slot and a removable battery(and the fact that I can't afford either). Also, I can't stand it with a portion of my screen taken up by a virtual settings button. No, I'm going to something that has an amazing development forum(and a settings button), almost as awesome as you guys. Hello HTC sensation 4g on simple mobile, bye-bye virgin mobile and og evo. My beloved evo will be given to someone(for money) who can take care of it and flash a new Rom every week like I do. I will still run around the og forum and help people and sh*t like that, just not as often.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks man for the kind words about Team D.I.R.T and we'll see you around
Who knows, maybe we can get some DIRT over there on the sensation...hahahaha
See ya and remember, if you need anything just hit me up on PM
Alex
Goodbye!
