MP3 player ROM - Desire HD General

hi,
i'd like to know if there is any ROM to turn my old Desire HD in a MP3 Player (no phone stuff, contacts, etc).
thks

Take out the sim card/permanently keep the phone in offline mode.
Get a good player like winamp/poweramp. I would suggest poweramp, also remember to enable the lockscreen player.
This app says it will allow you to run an app of your choice
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.autostart
Also remember to install some cpu tweaks so that it will make the battery last longer.
This is the easier way of getting it done.

ok, so there is no dedicated ROM ?
anyway your plan sounds good
thank you

There maynot be a dedicated rom for this, but that definately seems to be a better way forward. In case you change your mind at anytime you can just plug i n a simcard and you are sorted.

In theory you could also remove the unwanted apks like dialer, messaging, email, etc etc.

I believe so.. just open the ROM using an Archiving utility (7zip, Winrar, WinZip e.t.c) and delete the .apks from the relevant areas

Sense ROM Issues

First things first: I like Sense, so don't start bashing it and saying "switch to CM."
Alright, now for the real problem:
I don't know if everyone else has this problem, or maybe its my 16GB memory card, but on any Gingerbread ROMs(or even some Froyo) nothing shows up, like in Ringtones it only shows stock ones, nothing from the folders on my SD card, same with Gallery, it only shows "All Photos", "All Videos", and "Downloads", where on Froyo it shows everything on my SD card. When I open Astro or OI File Manager I can see all the files though. Am I alone with this issue?
What rom are you using?
Right now, im using the stock froyo rom, rooted.
But ive experienced this issue with lots of ROMs, mostly gingerbread with the original sense style, and now with gingerbread mySense.
I've noticed this too.. use a 3rd Party app to add in ringtones.. the stay forever. You can find them on the Market.

Zedge is a good app. I like it.
You can also use Ringdroid. It'll actually add the ringtones to the native folder for easier pickings.
I've encounteredthe same problem. To get around it I created a media folder on my SD card. So on my SD card I have a folder named media and subfolders named ringtones and notifications were I drop my audios accordingly. I hope this helps

Yea, I get around it by using root explorer and putting the tones in system/media/etc. Just would rather have it working fine.

I don't move anything to the system/media folders. The ringtones become visible if you create a sdcard/media directory.
I've got that, but the phone won't see it

My apologies. I misunderstood you. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. This was the only workaround I've used and since it worked for me, I did not bother to look for any other alternatives.
Not sure exactly what did it, but I pulled everything off my memory card, formatted it, and put it all back(after sifting through a bunch of unneeded folders/files), and put them all back.
I also had flashed a gingerbread ROM in the middle of all this, so for all I know, this ROM just doesnt have that problem.. but all seems to be good now.

Photos not showing up in the gallery

Whenever i take a few photos with the camera they show up in the gallery for a minute or two then when you go back into gallery they dont show up but astro can see them fine, ive tried clearing data and the cache for gallery. Is there any fix to this?

Get quickpic. Been using it ever since. I hate gallery lol. Quick pic is 10 times quicker

I've had this happen on occasion, usually they show up again if I manually rescan media using Spare Parts.
Thanks guys I'll try both of those things. Another little annoying problem I've been having is with my ringtone, I go into the htc music app and find a good song and trim it etc etc, ringtone works fine for a while, then whenever someone calls me later on, it goes back to the default quietly brilliant app!, I even made my own custom sound set etc. I'm not sure what to do with this one and it's really annoying.

Not trying to sound like a smartass but you don't have it plugged in and set to mass storage mode when this happens, correct? Had a friend almost throw her phone out the window because it did what you're describing and well... see the previous sentence.
I did a factory reset and that solved my issue. No more disappearing photos. It gets pretty annoying though!

Highly recommend QuickPic, as the previous user suggested. It's totally reliable and the dev is great with support.
Stock gallery is prone to issues... I haven't had it installed for months.

One more thing to add. The only thing I don't like about quickpic is that it doesn't show my picasa albums like gallery does. I seriously doubt most people use picasa as much as I do though

if you want to use gallery, run first rescanSD. then you pics will become available again... it will not last for long. as soon as you exit and go in again, it will not be visible again...
rescanSD for some reason has never worked for me, i've been frustratingly going through astro shortcuts to my photos until recently.

[Q] Questions Regarding Debloating

I am debloating my phone using Root Explorer and I'm looking to remove a few more apps but I cannot distinguish by name which ones they are in /system. Anyone know the name of the apks of the 'Email' and 'IM' apps as well as the 'Data Usage' widget apk?
There are two email programs on the phone to start, one is the corporate email, which is just email.apk, the other is the 'regular' email app which is socialhub.apk.
I would recommend not removing anything to do with IM, Talk, or basically any Google services, some of them are required for basic phone operations, and removing them caused me alot of trouble when I first started messing with the 'insides' of this phone and didn't know what I was doing.
I don't know what 'Data Usage' is called, but it is one of the Verizon apps; I think it may be part of 'My Verizon' app.
Above all that, if you are still on a Rom with .odex files, I would recommend flashing a deodexed Rom first (there are many available that are already plenty debloated, Nuckin and EC07 clean are both good starting points), and then if you feel more debloating is necessary, go from there.
I think you're right about the data widget being a part of myverizon.apk. And yes, I've already removed email.apk (corporate email) so you're right there also.
As for deodexed ROMS, I've used every custom ROM ever created for this phone and run into issues with gps not locking when doing so. Therefore, I stick with stock DL17. Even stock EC03 and EC07 give me gps issues.

Have you tried ciscogee gps.conf?

Anyone know if any issues arise after removing the Nuance app?

Yes and no. When you remove it you will get a constant/repeating FC error. When that happens just pull the battery (the FC repeats so fast, that there is no other way to turn the phone off) and reboot and everything should be fine.
At least that was my experience when I removed it using TiB.
Btw, yes I've tried the gps fix. It doesn't do anything.

Cyanogenmod Desktop Application (Windows, Mac, Linux)

So I woke up this morning, made me a hot coffee and thought; hey, wouldn't it be awesome to have a desktop program for devices using Cyanogenmod?! Could be like "Kies" or Sony Pc Suite. I don't think I need to tell the consequences of such a program. Is there already some work in progress or am I the first one suggesting a project like this?
I don't miss Kies. And I hate iTunes.
Not having to rely on a PC sync application is one of the reasons why cyanogen/stock android is so great.

Ok. I didn't told you, it could be exactly like Kies or Itunes! So calm down, please. I thought it would make the whole update process from one nightly to a newer one more easy. So you wouldn't have to check manually, if there are new nightlys, for updates. Aaand, you wouldn't have to "put the zip into the sdcard, boot into recovery, wipe cache/dalvik, chooze zip, push one million time's volume down button to hit "yes"" With a desktop app it could look like this;
Plug in your cm device>open CyanMod Desktop app>Push the "check for updates" button>a. Updates available= Push the "Yes, please update without full wipe" button. Now, everything is being done automatically....>b. No updates available....
And so on! Just imagine. But if you don't like it, it's by you =) you don't have to.

I agree it would be amazing if there was an application compatible with cyanogenmod roms that would act as a desktop client for messaging, updating the rom and stuff!!

I think software like KIES or iTunes is useless...
I must say I like the idea. I see that we have a software for every task you could possibly think of. Nevertheless it would be great to have some kind of all-in-one program. But I think it would only make sense if it is not Galaxy exclusive. I suppose it would be quite hard to develop such kind of program, but it would definitely be awesome.
And it would not mean you have to use it, just that you *could*. (people are lazy sometimes)
I like the sound of this.
there are lots of people who slate iTunes, but after having an iPhone and moving to Android. I would suggest that people have not used iTunes fully. My wish list
Program
Links to podcasts (text, mp3 and video)
Option to auto download podcasts as above
Integrated music player
Integrated music ripper
Folder updater for album art, meta data etc
Integrated video player
Integrated video ripper
Plug phone in
Option to auto start a program
Option to auto sync
Option to auto check for update
So far if I want an auto sync comparable to iTunes I need a music client, video client podcast client and for backups, I need to root my phone and do it on my phone.
It is easier to have these clients on my phone but still not as easy.
Cyanogen mod do have an updates button in the settings. This could be given a short cut on the home screen. One click (check), one click accept. Phone auto reboots and updates. I believe this is only set up for release candidates though.
The confirm bit on cwm. in the clock work mod folder add a file called
.noconfirm
if I remember correctly this gets rid of the multiple no, no, no, no etc.
