Honestly that's how much it's worth with an old Snapdragon S3 processor. I feel Galaxy Nexus for $350 is way better option than this especially when Note 2 will be announced this month.

In what way is the Galaxy Nexus better? The Note has a faster processor, Bigger screen, SD Card support, better camera, stylus, etc. Also the unlocked GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus is HSPA+ while the Galaxy Note is 4G.
There is no way the Galaxy Nexus is a better choice than the Note, other than the fact that the screen size of the Note might be too big for some.

Different strokes for different folks! I honestly think in the above comment that he was talking about resale value of the phone. The Note's value will drop significantly once the Note 2 is out. A GSM Nexus tends to hold it's value better.

Common man, are you serious? Who buys a phone for resale value? This isn't a car. Unless you are psychic you can't accurately predict the future of both phones. Even though the Note 2 will be out soon, it might be sometime next year before US carriers pick it up. And another point I'm going to reiterate, the Note is 4G while the Nexus is HSPA+. 4G speeds are ridiculous and coverage is growing. The Nexus is already a dated phone.

I think you mean LTE, because HSPA+ is what the everyday consumer knows as "4G". I personally don't see a reason for LTE...on HSPA+ anything I need loads instantly. Touchwiz is also absolutely hideous. I will take stock Android anyday. I don't really see how the Nexus is a dated phone, as it can do anything the note can. You may be confusing the dated Nexus between your dated operating system. ICS is sooooo 3 months ago.

Some one is a note fanboy. Ok. Why is nexus better? Updated from google. Period. End story. You guys just got ics. Nexus has been on jellybean. Note won't be getting jellybean.
But I'm not here to argue over which phone I'd get. My one s beats both of these.... But my girlfriend would be interested in a note, even if its dated by now.

There are plenty of crafty Devs that produce amazing ICS and JB ROM's for the Note. So whether it comes directly from google or not is irrelevant. There are no "Period. End story." You do not speak for everyone nor is your rebuttal the be all and end all.
Also I don't take too kindly to your fanboy comment. I'm comparing the benefits of one phone over another. I have no emotional attachment to my Note. If someone were to make an argument about the SGS III or the One X over the Note I would steer towards those phones. But when it comes to the Nexus, in my opinion (we all have one) I see no reason why it would be a better choice.

The Nexus price did not drop in value because of consumer demand. The Nexus price dropped because Google decided to subsidize the price of its hardware (like the Nexus 7 for $200). Google sells the Galaxy nexus for $350. You can very easily sell it on XDA, Craigslist, or any other site for $325. Please show me somewhere that you can sell a Note for $25 less than the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. Which I believe is $599.99. Not only that, but I have had NUMEROUS offers for a straight trade for a Note.

Please note (no pun intended) that I said it holds the value better. And also be aware that there is a difference between the international note and the AT&T note (the at&t is the one with the ****** processor). I am sorry that Samsung wants to deeply inflate the retail price of their phones to give carriers the ability to charge more for the upgrade. That is neither mine or Google's fault.

By slight I think the seller FJ is asking ~$150-200. Damn shame FJ is leaving the Note community. But there are still plenty of other great Devs in the community.
But anyways, I'm willing to give the Nexus a shot. Why don't you trade me your Nexus for my slightly beat up At&t Tilt 2 straight up and I'll play with both phones. After a few weeks if I end up liking the Nexus more, I'll come back to this forum and publicly announce how the Nexus is better. :good: What do you say?

Nexus Prime or Samsung Hercules?

Just a general question, which one would you get? I personally was excited for the hercules, but when I found out the nexus prime is also coming out in october and saw the specs on it, I may lean towards the nexus prime. Only thing it will be missing is touchwiz.
Nexua Prime if you.dont want to wait forever for software update
Nexus prime. Don't think about getting a carrier based phone.

Prime, duh. Most likely same hardware with no branding.
When I say most likely same hardware, because the Nexus devices have had a device that is similar but has a skin or something of that nature on it. Desire for the Nexus (even though it was released later) and the Galaxy S for the Nexus S.
Speculation and wishing is irrelevant.

I was in the same boat. For the last little while Ive been patiently waiting & salivating at the Hercules. But after hearing about the Prime and reading all the great reviews on the previous Nexus S, my opinion is now swaying towards the Prime.
prime to go along with my nexus s and nexus1
I'd prefer not to ever buy a Samsung product ever again as I feel so burned by my Vibrant (from the GPS standpoint alone).
If I had to pick....no doubt....Prime. Regular and fast firmware updates. I don't view the lack of Touchwiz as a drawback.
I stepped up to the Photon.
GSM and CDMA, yep it takes SIM cards.

Only concern I have about Nexus Prime.... I am on T-Mobile with the Even More Plus plan where you pay your phone on installment... on the new plans this will be called a Value Plan, but basically the same thing... no subsidized phones, you pay installments...
No problem... except that Nexus S for TMO has been through Best Buy ONLY, and you can't do Equipment Installment Plan (EIP) through Best Buy... only subsidized, which you can't do on a Plus/Value plan with TMO. which has meant that if I wanted to get a Nexus S (as I was considering as a friend wants my Vibrant) I would have to pay full price UP FRONT... ... and this will be the same whenever the Nexus Prime comes out most likely.
so in short... TMO has me screwed whichever way I go... Unless they offer the Nexus Prime in company stores on on the website where I can get EIP, which they haven't done in the past....

Yea, the only thing lesser about the prime would be the 5mp camera(that still does 1080p video according to rumors) that is supposed to have better sensors for low light conditions. Since I have a vibrant, better sensors is all I could want, and if it DOES do 1080p then it should be hackable to do 8mp pics(I have hacked so many cameras, camera phones are easy).
I didn't like the fragmentation that the SGS1 had, the same kind I think the SGS2 will have here.. I fear the communities will be smaller because of that, therefore less support, unlike for nexus S. If the prime goes tmobile, I would jump it like no tomorrow, unless some new information surfaces that really makes it bad, that's where I put my money.
i doubt it will come to tmobil! i bet it will be a verizon exclusive according to rumors. Imj getting a hercules! i hope they dont push it back to the oct 26...

Contract about to end..

My contract will be up in a few months and I'm looking for what's next. The Vibrant has been a great phone and is still going strong but it' starting to show it's age. Also I don't think I want to lock into another 2 year contract. So here's my thoughts...
Google is now selling the Galaxy Nexus for $400
https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=galaxy_nexus_hspa
And I can also get the bring your own SIM unlimited plan for $45/month.
I'm guessing I will break even in about 6 months as opposed to buying the Galaxy II on contract.
Thoughts?
Don't buy the GS2. there are a lot of phones out that are so much better. Speaking from personal experience. GS2 is already yesterdays news. Wait or move to another carrier. T-Mobile sucks with their updates! Run! RUN I TELL YOU!! RUUUUUUUUN!
Personally I will be leaving t-blowbile when my contract is up in July. Everyone else should too. Terrible updates, even worse service.

Why, you don't like him or something? GSII was, and continues to be, the ****ing definition of let down. 480x800 on a 4.5" screen, when I'm a little disappointed with that resolution on a 4" screen? No thank you. If GS3, with its rumored 4.7" screen, ends up being pentile, I'm done with Samsung for at least 2 years, probably longer.
Swyped, not typed, from my Digital Brick
It probably will the Galaxy Nexus has a 720p Superamoled pentile display.....samsung makes the screens 99% chance of pentile on GS3.......
I have the gs2 the updates sucks, (oh there aren't any) and the phone could be better. If the gs3 that goes to T-Mobile is garbage, as in it has a totally different processor than every other gs2 then I'm leaving T-Mobile and going some where else.
Sent from one of my phones! Thank me.
Engadget has had some posts that indicate the SGS 3 is going to have Sammy's latest Erynox quad core. I'm wondering if it's going to be good enough to finally be the device that has me leaving my Vibrant when I'm eligible for another upgrade.
My main concerns are:
Developer backing
Storage (if not a lot on the phone, it has to have an SD)
Removable battery to get out of bootloops
Wait...you mean I was totally right and Samsung abandoned the gs2 just like I said they would and everyone that rushed to get one is all sad about it? no. way. Seriously #neveragain means #neveragain. Buy the gs3 and watch the same damn thing happen again.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
I'm much less worried about vendor support than I am dev support. Sammy forgot about the Vibrant a LONG time ago. And Sammy's not the only one that does it. In all honesty this is part of the reason that I am going to consider a Windows phone when it's time for a new one.

Just read on tmonews that the US variants of SG3 could come with Snapdragon S4 processor instead of Exynos. If true, it will really put a damper on the SG3 party.
i guess when samsung says "flagship", means they'll abandon ship in a year or so.
TMO just aquired 20+ spectrums (i think) from the AT&T deal so the data speeds and signal should be boosted in the next couple of months. then ultimately get LTE in 2013.
i'm sticking with Tmo cuz i need wifi calling and my old grandfathered myfave "real unlimited" plan
Well, I bought my Vibrant on release day (July 2010). I decided to go for the HTC One S and ordered 3 of it yesterday to replcace my vibrant and 2 Iphones in my family. Got a great deal from loyalty ($200 for 3 phones) and $10 per month off my plan.

What the hell is so bad about physical buttons and having the full 4.8" of beautiful screen? I've used Ios devices, and not having a back button drives me nuts!

$200 each, or total? I'm thinking about pushing for some loyalty love for a reduced One S, and then just selling it still sealed. I REALLY dislike the non-removable battery, and not really a fan of only cloud storage, but can live with it if necessary. I was kind of thinking maybe finagle 2 Galaxy S Blazes for free, since that phone is as close as it gets to an upgraded Vibrant, and selling one... still not sure though. Any ideas?

Deprecation

Im going to go on a 24 month contract, looking at S3 or maybe the One X. What I'm worried about though is I bought my current Sensation XE SIM free for £450, about 6 months ago and now they are selling for about £200-250 I think.
Will the S3 keep its value better? How did the S2 hold value? New to Android, had iPhones before which Sid hold value well I thought
Cheers
The second buy a smartphone it is basically worth half what you paid for it. Fact of life. Doesnt really matter what you buy.
If you happen to buy something good though it will maintain that value for a year probably.

Expect the S3 to quickly lose value after autumn where superior devices will be released... Performance wise this device is sadly not as future proof as the S2 was at its release.

Except for an iphone.
Depending on how you got it, it actually rauses in price.
$1 gets you a reply
Certain phones are more desirable than others and therefore hold their value well on ebay and such.
GS2 is still one of the more desirable ones and can be sold for £250+ on ebay or recycled for £230. (after around 18 months)
Personally I reckon the GS3 will be just as popular and will hold its resale value well.
Obviously it's not in the iphone levels, but normal consumers know the galaxy s brand and it will probably stay in relatively high demand until the GS4
I see the HTC One X selling for £300 BNIB on ebay.. Although it's an excellent phone, I don't think it will be as lucky as the GS3
only apple products keep their market value because of the fact that apple uses price fixing tactics.
Yeh Apple do keep better price, I don't think I'll buy another or brand new again unless part of a contract as looks like I'm going to lost about £225, 50% after 6months
Sad fact
It is actually a sad fact to see the Galaxy S series loses value more than the iPhone series, simply because I think that Galaxy is so much better in terms of flexibility and "mod-ibility".
Apple products hold their value better because there are alot of idiots with more money than sense.

Slight correction: phones with less competition better maintain their price (because there are fewer alternatives). The moment that viable competitors come out, the price will drop.
The iPhone is sufficiently differentiated, through brand alone, that many consumers are willing to consider it apart from all the competition. And Apple is smart enough to limit competition with itself by only releasing once in a gray moon. (Also by suing the hell out of everyone who has the audacity to release a rectangular phone.) So there you go.

You could be on the receiving end of this trend if you want; just wait a few months and you can buy it for hella cheap. It's sort of a gamble though; the Galaxy S2 held up price pretty well (it's differentiation was probably beat only by the iPhone or the Note), and it remains to see whether the S3 can do the same.

Fair enough but I would suggest that the Galaxy S series has reached some level of brand recognition..so that when lay consumers (rather than us tech geeks) think of the best phones available, they think first of the iphone and then of the galaxy S series.
I reckon that after the initial depreciation (from selling second hand), the GS3 will hold its value well until the next GS phone..
Or at least I hope it will because I'll be getting a GS3 once it comes out!
The Galaxy S II was so good because it was better then every other phone on the market, the Galaxy S III is just a bit better, or at least on par with other phones now.
What other phone is faster than the SG3? What other phone dose what the SG3 dose?
Anyhow the SG2 is still selling for loads and even phone recycle places pay over £200
50% drop?
Then that means it is down more than 50%

Not right now, but just wait and see. Even the dualcore S4 Krait matches its speed on certain tests, there will be more ARM's A15 chips coming in near the future.
That is not to say its a bad phone, but it's not a major leap like the SII was. The price is already a give away imo, $700 after VAT, so before that its cheaper. The Nexus and Note was $800 when they were released. I think that's simply a good thing though since phones were getting too expensive. We have the OneX at $600, S3 at $700, Nexus at $400. I think its positive for consumers, could be $50 lower still.

When I saw the title I was wondering what's being condemned.

In this case is the upgrade worth it? (from sgs3?)

I have always been the type of user that gets all the flagship phones right out of the gate, I currently have my white s3 which is in mint condition and I am just curious as to whether the upgrade is worth it under this condition:
first of all, my family has around 6 lines (business, mine, and 4 other family members) and me and my mom are usually the only two who ever get an upgrade (mom is always getting the brand new iphone while the rest of the family just has the hand-me-down iphones) and I am always getting the new galaxy (started with the galaxy s2.) so we always have a line ready for an upgrade at one time.
I can easily sell my galaxy s3 with all of the accessories i have for it for ~$400-450
buy the new s4 for (I'm assuming) $200
what is your take on this plan? go ahead and buy it right out of the gate as usual or wait for it and risk the price on the s3 dropping after the release?
u've just answered ur own question.
Why wait? I will have one the day it.hits.the stores.in.canada. Why sell your s3 though,im.keeping mine to.have as another backup. I bought my s3 outright though and will be doing the same with the s4, contracts suck

I'm selling the s3 because I'm a broke 17 year old who doesn't have money to blow on the new s4

Bummer. I do think it is a worthwhile upgrade though, latest software and hardware, bigger screen yet smaller overall, better camera and bigger battery....kinda hard to go wrong lol

If you are tight on money it isn't worth the upgrade unless you can net positive in some way, it's not that big of an upgrade from the gs3! Save your cash for a bit and wait for the phone that really is worth it.

I think you need to read the op again. I would be turning a profit

If there's always an upgrade path available with that many lines, then the quicker you sell the GS3, the more money you'll make. Although you'll likely have some time, as GS4 adoption might not be as quick as GS3 was.
But really, in your shoes, there's nothing stopping you from doing the upgrade, and the GS4 is a superior phone (at least specs wise). I'd do it, in your shoes.
There's absolutely no reason to keep the S3. Zero....
If you can afford it....it's a no brainer....Go S4!

I'm in the exact same position as you man. Broke. 17. white s3. exact same haha. Except the fact that im still on unlimited data with no upgrade. I feel like most of the features advertised in the s4 are software (besides cpu, battery, camera, scren, better gorilla glass) and most are just minimal improvements considering how snappy the s3 is, how clear the camera is, how well my battery performs, and how clear the screen density in everyday use. If any of those bother you, then since you can make an a profit I would upgrade. I like them all, so i'll wait for roms that have the s4's software improvements.
Sometimes the profit isn't worth the period of having to sell and wait, because if you wait too long you'll have not as much profit. Good luck though

Well see, the thing is that I can switch to an iPhone for while until the s4 is released, as much as it will kill me

Resale price of Note 4 vs. iPhone 6 vs. iPhone 6+??

Hi Guys,
I currently love my Note 3 and have no plans of upgrading it on Verizon.
My contract has been up for a while I looking to renew it, due an upgrade and get a new phone and sell it here in US for some profit.
What would be the best phone to get with a contract renewal and sell?
Prices are with Contract:
Note 4 $299 (32GB)
IPhone 6 $199 (16GB) $299 (64GB)
IPhone 6+ $299 (16GB) $399 (64GB)
Please let me know what's the best plan.
I can use the money to get some AV gear
Thanks.
Note 4 if you wanna stay in future, but if you wanna go back couple years iPhone 6 LoL
History shows that the iPhone will almost certainly sell for more, regardless what we think of it.

Yes of-course I agree that Note series and Android is the way to go for personal use, I guess iPhone would have the better sale value.
What would you say the iPhone 6 or 6+??
I think 64GB might be in market as I don't know who would want to buy 16GB phone.
thanks.
Its hard to say but my gut would be that the 64 GB 6+ will net you the most profit. It's purely a guess though.

I was thinking same thing. Just that the iPhone 6+ with 64GB will be $399 to begin with. How much would I be able to sell it for, that is the question?

Heh, isn't that laways the question?
Just wait until you know Apple's off-contract pricing. That should give you a pretty solid idea of what you'll be able to get for the phone, especially if it goes out of stock for a while.

On Apple's UK site, the 6+ is retailing at :
16GB1
£619.00
Includes VAT of approx. £104.00.*
64GB1
£699.00
Includes VAT of approx. £117.00.*
128GB1
£789.00
Cheaper than the Note 4 for UK pricing, And they'll always hold their value due to the amount of people who love Apple.
Honestly I just sold my iPhone 5S 64GB on Verizon and got $390 for it, so you could in theory pay the contract rate and sell it in a year and if its in good condition and you have the original box and accessories you could get pretty close to what you paid for it.
I am getting the Note 4, done playing the back and forth game with iOS and Android. I always sell the iOS devices about 3 months after I get them from being bored, too small, can't do squat because its locked down like your date on prom night. Just no fun. That said Android always offers you the ability to be custom and make it your device with launchers, apps, themes and tools. What Android DOES, Apple STEALS.
If you want max resale value, iphones are the easy choice. Android phones drop faster in value. Sold a regular iphone 4 32gb unlocked a few months ago for 200 dollars on ebay. Who would've thought you'd still get that much for such an ancient phone.
So are you guys getting to figure out the best resale value. In order to sell and purchase a note 4 off contract?

Actually one of the main reasons I probably won't go for the edge is that it's resale value will also. Oat certainly fall faster and to much lower points than a mainstream device like the Note 4.

Yes agreed Edge will fall fast in price compared to Note 4. Plus we don't know how functional the edge extra screen will be, it does have a lot of potential though.
Guys I will be getting 6+ from bestbuy. Should I get the phone activated on my line or just ask the BB employee to link it to my cell number without activating it. Remember I don't have any intention of using it just selling it on swappa or CL. Thanks.

I am due an upgrade and don't need a new phone as I am happy with what I have. No one is bashing apple here just talking about resale value. This is not a teenage thread talking about Google vs. Apple. Please stay on topic. Thank you.

The fact that u are telling ppl to loose their day job if they want to sell a phone and buy some AV gear Is rude. Maybe in your middle school that is considered cool. I dont know. No one is acting like sheep here just trying to have a logical discussion about pricing. I am sure u know all about Android and ios now please go and ask Google and Apple for a medal. Please stop pmsing now and grow up.
