Nexus 7 vs 10 inch tablets - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone here had a 10 inch tablet and is willing to share some thoughts regarding browsing in particular?
I'm thinking of getting the Nexus 7 because it seems easier on the hands than a 10 incher but I don't want to do it at the expense of a good browsing experience. What I mean is if anybody can do a comparison between browsing experiences on a 7 inch in landscape vs 10 inch in portrait mode. Browsing in landscape on a 10 inch is out of the question for me (since I do this on my 8.9 Galaxy Tab and already find it cumbersome) and portrait on a 7 inch is definitely something I wouldn't even try (doing this on my 8.9 makes my eyes scream in pain).
So I would just like to hear PROs and CONs basically for each of them, but only if you've used them in the orientation I mentioned.
Much appreciated!

i used to have a transformer prime and absolutely everything is better on the nexus 7. I think the main reason for that is because the TF201 had some major issues so it could have just been that specific tablet but on my comparison the n7 is better in particular with browser performace...the main reason i got it though is because of the much larger development community

Browsing is "easier" on on the iPad compared to N7 as far as viewing is concerned in my opinion.
However, I always found the iPad made my wrist ache after a while and I was forever altering my grip and stuff.
So overall I prefer the N7 as it is much more comfortable to hold and most sites are perfectly readable.

I never understood why fully grown men/adults complain abut holding 10 inch tablets for prolonged periods. my 2 year old can lay in bed or the floor and hold it above her head for hours...literally...iPad, touchpad and the nexus she holds in one hand practically.
Just say in...are people this weak? And even complain that its heavy?
No offense to those with conditions preexisting.

I had a Transformer TF101 10". I loved it. Had no complaints at all. Sure it was a little big for home use but perfect for business use for remote desktop. But I primarily used it at home. I bought a 7" Galaxy Tab for my wife/son and I really liked the ability to take it more places. After handling both after a while I wanted something smaller.
I really tossed on the Nexus 7 but the Transformer was basically end of life officially. I was looking at the Transformer TF300 for the Tegra3... then the Nexus 7 came out and was half the price. Smaller form factor plus all the hardware.
I really like gaming on it more. Typing feels easier. I'm happy. I miss video out but oh well.

It is tiring for most normal people. Probably stronger people like you can hold it for long time. Whenever I use my iPad 3 I put it on my lap or if I am on my bed I use it with stand. Holding iPad 3 for long period of time is indeed tiring experience. I am saying because I use my tablets a lot and I don't use my laptop much. I just need my laptop when I have an exe file to run or transfer something on my tablet which is not available on internet.

Holding it with 2 hands for viewing something isn't a problem, but when you're browsing and constantly reaching with one hand to the middle of the screen to tap stuff, then the weight of it starts to feel noticed. It isn't a very big deal, but I think a larger screen is better for viewing stuff and a smaller screen is better for interacting with it. Unless you do everything in portrait mode on your 10 inch, but then the browsing experience suffers (a 7 inch in landscape is 15 cm wide and has 1280 pixels across while a 10 inch in portrait mode is 13.6 cm wide and only has 800 pixels). Does anyone know what I'm talking about here?

Yes I know and if the text is too small on the website I am browsing then at times I use nexus 7 in landscape mode. There is no need for zoom in that case. The text is also crisper than 800 pixel tablet in portrait.

To make things even more interesting, I was initially thinking of buying the Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700) because of its resolution of 1920x1200. But since I figured I would use it most of the time in portrait mode (for browsing and typing at least), I would get a 13.6cm wide screen with 1200 pixels, which isn't as good as the 15cm wide screen with 1280 pixels of the Nexus 7, correct? I mean, the 2 DPIs are very close (224 and 216) but the wider Nexus 7 would be a little better and the taller Transformer would be a bit too tall I think...

Farewell TF101.

I sold my TF101 today on ebay for 245 no dock 8gb and a leather case. My baby was in good condition. I will be getting a Nexus 7 for now. Until they come up with something higher than 1080p and quad core.
It's funny I'm going from 10.1 to a 7inch. I hate 7 inch tablets but since it's a Google tablet. I'm giving it a try.
I'm going to miss this community. We have so many talented devs here. I hope the Nexus 7 forum is the same.
It will be shipped on Tuesday morning. I have one last day with it.
If any of you got a Nexus 7 please leave some feeds thanks :'(

Nexus 7 is great I have TF101 and N7. Just watch out for screen lift in your device and you might want to wait for a new batch of N7 for them to fix it.
i was going to get a higher res one and/or faster one but now that jellybean is out this thing is so damn fast... i'm pretty picky and i'm actually happy with it. i wish the bezel was smaller though.
looking at the windows 8 tabs since i'm enjoying my samsung focus flash.
It would be interesting to hear a long term (after the honeymoon) report from you six months down the road. Specifically looking to hear what your experience was going from a 10 to a 7.
I waited for the Infinity and now I'm waiting for the Amazon Fire 2. By Sep 6 I will know for sure if the F2 will beat the N7 then decision time!
BTW, I'm keeping my 101s. The 1280x800 res will be here for a long time and the Tegra 2 is not a slouch either.
What do you think the Kindle Fire will have that will make it so compelling? Stock Google love with Tegra 3 and a 216ppi display is pretty hard to beat.
Yup its gone so sad I'm using my Sensation now till the N7 gets here

I was considering doing the same, but I thought that the portrait orientation and smaller screen size would outweigh the benefits of the Nexus 7. I'm very happy with my TF101, and if I'm going to get a new tablet it would have to be of a similar size.
you`ll regret it I am afraid, 7 inch is too small.
Had the original galaxy tab and as my first major android device I thought it was wicked. Only issue for me is that it genuinely felt like an over sized smart phone at times so when I got the tf with the dock it just felt like a proper tablet experience.
However, I've heard the nexus7 is a great performer and video and games run real sweet. I sometimes miss that pocket size portability of the gtab...... but then I guess that's why I got my s2.
Thinking about the tf300 but may wait for the infinity and the big price drop that I've been informed about.
All the best dude
My primary reason for getting a 7 is portability and if the F2 can match the N7 with better memory and battery life then I may go for it. Just have to wait and see what Amazon has to offer.

I had a seven inch tablet before my Transformer. It was very portable so I see the attraction to the form factor. My personal preference is for the ten inch though.

I initially didn't want a 7 but as the resolution improved so did the legibility, N7 is definitely one of my choices but Amazon's next tab is about to be announced so holding my breath.
I was considering the N7, but since I have a Galaxy S2 (which, while not GNote-sized, is pretty big already), I don't need a portable tablet. I might switch up or get the Surface tablet though... that keyboard cover looks interesting. But I mean, that's what I thought about the keyboard dock too.
I have both the TF and the N7, and ever since I picked up the N7 about a month ago, that's all I use. The speed is incredible. I've run RaymanFX's JB ROM and CM9, and while both were improvements over stock, it doesn't hold a candle to the smoothness of the N7. Most of my tablet use is browsing in Chrome, and that's also where there's the biggest difference. The performance improvement in other areas isn't as dramatic.
The other major plus is the portability. It fits in my suit pocket, my jacket pocket, and even in the pockets of my shorts. As a result, I'm more likely to carry it around with me. I never bothered tethering before, but since I have the N7 with me often, it comes in handy.
If a keyboard is somewhat important, there are a number of folio cases with BT keyboards available for about $30-40. Sure, it's not as elegant as the TF solution, but it works. Since you're coming from HC/ICS on the TF, I would strongly recommend switching your N7 to the tablet UI. The phone UI just doesn't do it justice.
The N7 will probably be my last Android tablet for a while. I'm looking to pick up the Transformer Book. I'm a Windows consultant, so the idea of a Windows 8 tablet/laptop is pretty appealing. Plus I can run StarCraft .

You took the words out of my mouth, a 7incher is definitely more convenient to carry around. AFA Amazon's K2, if it comes with free 3G like their KDX it could blow away the competition. With GPS and 3G, navigation will be an attractive feature.
So what would you guys suggest, a 10 inch or 7 inch tablet? I'm really torn in the decision to keep my TF101 or "upgrade" to a 7 in Nexus 7. I know it is easier to carry around but is the 3 inch difference in screen size a major difference. I need your opinions!

7 inch on the road, 10 inch or more at home or office. But format is only part of the story, the other consideration is specs like wifi, gps, camera and bluetooth. I intend to have both.
I was going to but the N7 at staples on Tuesday but ima wait for amazon offer (s) first before I spend money. I still need a tablet.i hate using my vita at my college.

for me it´s a simple choice, i´m always with a backpack so 10 or 7 it really doesn´t matter...
but from experience, i found the tf101 a little "tall" for portrait reading... the balance is just not right to do that naturally..

Hp touchpad owners here?

Any former touchpad owners here? Development for the touchpad has really slowed and game support has always been bad, so I was thinking about selling a touchpad and getting the nexus 7. The only thing I am worried about is the size. I've never really had a problem with the touchpad's size, and I do have a 7" tablet that I never really liked. However it is a terribly skinned, terribly underpowered hp zeen.
How did you guys find the nexus? Keep in mind that I have a galaxy nexus already and this would be my main at home device. I usually don't use a normal computer at home.

I recently came from the touchpad. Although, with my new found love for nexus 7 it now it could have only served as a paperweight and a Frisbee possibly. The seven inch size is very easily adaptable. And I also had the issue of owning a lot of games and apps yet them not working on my touchpad. Every game I own is compatible with the nexus (and I rly do own a lot) and runs flawless. I got a C80 production run so mine is flawless. Overall great buy. Also the touchpad value isn't going to go up so I thought might as well sell it as soon as possible. Also I thought the tps screen was fine until I got nexus. Text is crisp. Games look good. Not so good as they do on my s3 or your galaxy nexus but still look great. Overall I would highly recommend it to anyone bc of the incredible value. Especially tp owners.
Galaxy s3
Nexus 7
I still have my Touchpad, also have an iPad 3. I always felt that a 10 inch tablet was my ideal size. I bought the Nexus 7 because it was a Nexus really, kinda sad it wasn't a 10 inch. But I find that it's the Nexus 7 I reach for most of the time now. I just love how light and comfortable it is. And despite being smaller, the 1280x800 screen means I can see as much as my Touchpad, I just hold it a little closer if needed.
The performance is pretty nice too. Only real complaint I have is the screen quality is a bit subpar to the Touchpad or most other tablets. But it's not too bad.
I've also made the move from the TouchPad to the Nexus 7 (someone at work stole my TouchPad).
I dearly loved my TouchPad and I used it every day (mostly for surfing the net). While there are features I miss (the WebOS card system, WebOS notifications and the integrated gallery and a few browsing tweaks that are absent on Android) the Nexus 7 is growing on me, I still feel like its an overgrown smart phone but the options with rooting and the Play Store are swaying me. There are far more games/apps available on Android and more ROMs that work. I do miss the 10" screen and having an integrated gallery (being able to link to my PhotoBucket account was very nice on the TouchPad).
All in all the tweeker in me likes the Nexus 7 for tinkering, but I miss the fluidity of WebOS.
With regards to the screen, purples, blues and reds and better on the N7 but greens, yellows and light blue are similar/worse. The Touchpad screen wasn't the best but it is consistent. The N7 has good darks but bad lights in comparison which means you notice it.
The pixel density is much higher and the screen much smaller so you have to be a bit closer to see what's going on. The screen feels more confined (the recent tasks menu fills the whole screen), probably because my TP is running ICS in tablet mode instead of the N7 in phone mode.
The volume buttons are a bit harder to reach on the N7 since they are slanted away from you.
The performance is much better on the N7 and it's a lot lighter
Still got my TP also, and as above hardly ever use it now. The N7 is smaller and there are some things (like web browsing without flash) that don't work as well but it wins hands down on portability and pocketability. The OS is of course much better and being Google will be upgraded as and when needed.
Do you guys still use a notebook at home? The touchpad has almost replaced my chromebook.

In my opinion, you should sell your touchpad for the nexus 7. It is a definite upgrade to it. First off, you get a quad core tegra 3 instead of a wimpy snap dragon duel core. Also, I have a 10 inch windows tablet and the nexus 7. I find myself going to the nexus 7 far more often, simply due to the ease of using a light weight 7in device. I simply say that the nexus 7 is more practical than the touch pad, but again, that is my personal opinion
I have both, just picked this bad boy up today. I really prefer the screen size so much more. Definitely seems like it will perform better. If I had a choice, I'll take the Nexus all day. HP was nice but for me, I don't like the 10" screen. I find that I could lay in bed with my macbook pro and be just as comfortable. Typing on the HP compared to this, absolute nightmare. Typos all day on the HP. So far, I'm extremely happy.

Do I need the Nexus 7?

Hey guys I recently got a Nexus 7 but have noticed that it is nowhere as smooth as my Nexus 4 even when running Paranoid Android. I don't play video games and only use it to watch YouTube videos. I don't really think I need it. Unless you guys have some amazing ideas for me I'm probably going to get a refund on it.
Thanks guys

I love having my N7. Use it with Apex launcher/stock rom/rooted while at home. It's so light and the screen is mesmerizing to me. Save the N4 for work/on the go. There's no way I could go back to only N4/laptop. I see a bit of lag every once in a while (was really bad with Nova) but must have a nice tablet now and hate the weight of all ten inch ones.
I use my tablet (A500) whenever I want to play or watch youtube videos, it's nice to have another device with the same options as your phone

OK. Here's my opinion on tablets in general. Seven inch tablets are made for those who can't afford a ten inch tablet. That doesn't necessarily mean people buy them because of that, it's just the target demographic. Now, seven inch tablets do come in handy when you need a device for FPS gaming or portability. They own that area. And the very best seven inch is the Nexus 7, so if you want a seven inch tablet, buy the Nexus 7.
But...in every other area 10 inch tablets win. Usually they're top of the line, have back cameras (if you need one), are much easier to type on, and generally have better screens. So in this area for Android you have a few flagship tablets such as the Nexus 10, Note 10.1, and Infinity. The Nexus 10 is having major light bleed issues. I picked up one and exchanged it to find the second had it worse. So I returned it and bought an iPad. Yes. An iPad. I would never buy an iPhone, but the tablet experience on an iPad is stellar. I'm still mesmerized by how smooth everything is and how well it works. So don't be an Android fanboy and exclude the iPad if you're considering going for ten inch tablets. It's quite possibly the best of them all (in my opinion, anyway).

A 7 inch tablet is evolution of the eBook readers to me.
EBook readers where extremely popular. Let's take the basic form factor and make a it full fledge tablet. So yeah you can use it as a eBook reader and...movies,internet, email, games and everything else that full android device can do.
it depends on your routine.
if you have a nexus 4 you don't need a nexus7, nexus10 yes with its display, prefect for ebooks and Paranoid android, ,the nexus4 and its large screen is fine, I will get a 10 inch when its here, just for reading at night, I use my phone more so tablets are excess luxury goods

Have owned an iPad 2 for a year now. Has been collecting dust ever since I bought Galaxy Nexus and then N4. Watching video? LOL @ Youtube fail. Website? N4 is ok. Playing games? too heavy. I'm still waiting for someone to suggest some use for me.
I don't feel a need for a tablet personally. I have a transformer which I used when it was newer than my phone. If i was to get a nexus 10 I may use it more than my Nexus 4. It just seems pointless to have a tablet and a phone when most of my usages are done on a desktop.
It depends what kind of a person you are. For me i use whatever is newer in my hands.

Which proves that you didn't read what I wrote. I said they were marketed towards those people. You don't see many (none that I can think of) seven inch tablets over $250, whereas ten inch tablets range from $250-$1000 depending on the model and storage. So, of course, seven inch tablets are getting better, but there are still none of them that are as powerful and "luxurious" as the high end ten inch tablets on the market.

It's opinion, rather than being true.
Don't think I'll ever buy another 10 incher as they are too big and clunky for general lounging about the house.
For me, the nexus 7 is perfect in terms of size, speed, utility for browsing and email etc. If I need to do any serious typing or work, that's when the tool for that job comes out ie. Iaptop rather than tablet.

I would never use an ipad because the design is beyond awful. Personally, i don't like the ios look. It's just me, but it's old, i had my ipod touch for years, I'm done with that look, and every app you get from ios follows the same rounded and glossy theme. I like squares, and i like matte. That aside though, you can barely put icons on the screen, which i guess doesn't matter because anyways because the reason why iblike my two bottom rows of 10 icons is so i can use widgets, which the ipad can't. I also dislike the back button. Unless I'm mistaken, it's still in the upper left? Which means that, right now as i type in portrait mode, i could not go back without setting my device down, repositioning my hands, pressing back, then reholding the device again. Same goes for the status bar (I'm using a kf2 i got from a raffle so it still has a classic status bar, and it's awful, i can't reach the touch of the screen, the idea is great on phones, bad on tablets, it's why they have a bottom status bar)
And in the very end, i like to tinker. I may be odd but in the end of the day i like to play with things. Break things. Get new themes, try new fonts, play with devs unique roms, see what my device can do. That's just so much better on android, especially being here at xda.
I just don't see anything the ipad really does right, uness you do like the look, then having that look across all apps would be nice for you, but the ui is still just annoying to use compared to android for tablets.

Yes. 7 inches are better than 10 inches. I sold my transformer for the nexus 7 because the transformer was too large it wasn't all that comfortable for one handed use. It was useless on most games. Typing required the keyboard or pretyping finger stretches. The 7 allows you to do everything a 10 can do but without the bulk. The only benefit a 10 has is if you are sharing a video and therefore need more screen, or you are doing something that requires a lot of screen real estate.

if you care about having a larger screen for mobile gaming or browsing on the go, if its for home only use i see no reason for a tablet because at this point no tablet are as good at browsing, gaming (depends), or productivity as a full computer. in fact, i got an infinity with dock for school, and later exchanged it for a chromebook because its only a little heavier but works so much better for school because of its great keyboard and much better online google docs experience

nexus 7 [2] too narrow. We need Nexus 8.

I went to best buy to get the Nexus 7 2 and got the iPad mini instead.
After looking at the narrow Nexus 7 it felt like a big phone, didn't like it. I love android, had all the top phones and tablets. Decided to keep the galaxy s4, and for the tablet none of the tablets are any good for android. I feel like the iPad mini has the best size screen even with the low resolution it looks more cleaner and more space on the screen. Android tablets are still can't fide the real comfortable size. Galaxy Tab 3 8 is the best size I wish Nexus was made by samsung . like a Nexus 8.
Android is the best so I might return the iPad mini and get a tab 3 8 inch.

I have been struggling with the narrower screen myself. My mini is idea screen size and weight. Google has everything else beat except the narrow screen. It really is like a big phone. I will certainly sell this N7 if a mini retina comes out.

great story.
enjoy that god awful display on that tablet.
"none of the tablets are any good for android."
lol okay, that's why the Nexus 7 and New Nexus 7 were such big sellers, right? lol. these whiny threads are getting ridiculous; time for a cleanup.
Its narrow for many reasons.
Easier to hold in one hand, lack of availability of high resolution screen at 8 inch, and battery consumption.
Sorry you got the mini instead but you should've spent more for the iPad 4 instead because the mini is more of a compromise than the new Nexus 7. I personally can't stand using iPad mini due to the screen resolution. I love the 8 inch size but still prefer 1280x800 7 inch, and the new Nexus has 1920x1200 which also has absolutely stunning accurate colors.

Galaxy note 3 8.1 maybe what you are looking for... When it hits
I tried to care about your purchase. I really did. But right when the care was about to blossom, it died inside me like my soul.
GTFO of here with your Apple talk....
Let's hijack this thread to be, "How I'm going to spend the extra $70 in my pocket."
I'll start:
With the $70 bucks I saved buying a Nexus 7 instead of an i*ad mini, I'm going to buy a case, a wireless charging station, and a USB OTG cable.

I wish there was a good 4:3 tablet for Android. It really makes the screen feel much roomier
I myself wish the N7 was a N8, but 16:10 is a perfect balance between text reading and widescreen multimedia, and you're doing a lot of the latter.
I like the narrow shape of the Nexus 7 because it actually fits in the pocket much better than the old one. Ipad mini will not fit in any of my pockets. But I can understand in getting a iPad mini but not this one; wait until they do something with the screen. The mini is old and out gunned by this Nexus and it's a full $100 cheaper when comparing list cost. Even if both were the same price the new Nexus is still the clear winner. There is no competition for the Nexus 7 FHD at the moment. Just stating the facts.
Android tends to have screens that come in 16:9 aspect ratio (or similar size) and iPads use a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Each has their plus and minus. Most prefer watching video on a 19:9 display and internet surfing on iPad type display. Watching video on a 4:3 display bothers me more than surfing on a 16:9 display. I also like the "narrowness" of the new Nexus 7, as it make it easy to hold one handed and adds to portability.
To each their own, as long as you happy... all is good.
As far as non of the Tablets being any good for Android, I and many others would disagree. But it's you opinion, and your entitled to it, but it is just that... an opinion.
I have to say, and don't take this the wrong way. I'm not really sure why you felt the need to make such a post, that really does nothing but clutter the forum. I sometimes have to restrain myself from posting things, because I decide it's just not worth posting and does not contribute to the community.
i don't get how any of you can sit here and claim the screen on the ipad mini is better because it's 1 inch bigger, dstepite it's HORRIBLE, pixelated resolution.
if a screen has crap resolution, it doesn't matter how big it is; it's awful to look at, and it's not a good screen. the ipad mini screen technology is years old, yet STILL more expensive than a nexus 7 which is current tech. i'm sorry, but i'd rather look at an inch smaller screen with a much higher resolution than an ipad mini where you can literally see every single pixel because it's just an awful screen.
Nexus 7 screen is beautiful but too narrow. I'll just give the iPad to my kid and get me a Galaxy tab 3 8inch. Hate the iOS.

2012: Damn the bezel is too huge, they need to narrow it
2013: The bezel is too narrow, I can't do my stuff on it anymore...
I feel you on the size I would kill for a nexus 8 but you just paid more for an 8 inch iPad 2 like 100 dollars more and the new one will be out in September. I love the design and performance of nexus 7 its faster than my gf iPad 4

Should I sell my Nexus 10 and buy the new 7?

Do you guys think it's a good change or not worth it? My main reason alone is size.
Normally I like bigger tablets, but the 16:10 aspect ratio of the Nexus 10 combined with a 10.10 inch screen size makes it really uncomfortable to use in both portrait and landscape.
In portrait its too long and tall and in landscape not much content is shown on websites, forums, etc.
So that's why I'm thinking the Nexus 7 might be a better choice for me. I tried the original 7 a couple of weeks ago and it was nice. I'm concerned I might miss the bigger screen of the 10 too much, specially for web browsing and videos. Everything else should be better in the 7: playing games (the 10 is too big to play games comfortably in landscape. My thumbs almost don't reach the on screen buttons), reading forums with Tapatalk, YouTube browsing, eBook reading, e-mail, viewing pictures, etc.
Plus with the 7 I would get 32GB for much less than with another Nexus 10. Mine is 16GB now.
Anyone has changed from a Nexus 10 to the new 7? It still has 2GB RAM, HD screen, etc. So it's not that different.
What do you guys think? Should I make the change?
Thanks.

Well you need to check your priorities. Before the nexus 7 I always thought a bigger tablet would be always better. I enjoy more the nexus 7 cause i usae it to read a lot, and the nexus 10 is kinda big to read comfortably, and it's heavy, the nexus 7 is comapct and a great tablet to read check your mail, browse the web and etc...
buut, if you use it like a notebook, with bluetooth keyboard to write documents, or to play games with a bluetooth controller ( that's great) and that kinda stuff the nexus 10 is a better choice.
Today i wouldn't trade my nexus 7 for a nexus 10.
I did (but selling the N10 2 months before the new Nexus 7 became available). I am very happy with the switch. For all intents and purposes, the Nexus 7 took the Nexus 10's soft touch feel and made the screen brighter. It really comes down to a question of style. Do you like the size of magazines and 8x10 notebooks more than the size of hardcover novels and day planners.
Another upside is, if you don't like the Nexus 7, it looks like the Nexus 10 is getting a revision this fall with a much faster processor (and that tablet release will reduce the resale value of the original Nexus 10 just as the original Nexus 7 prices fell with the new one.
What I now want post N7 is a top notch 4.0-4.3" phone (HTC First sized + microSD).

I feel like a powerful home computer, 7 inch tablet, and an LTE smartphone is the best setup you can have.
A ten inch tablet is just too big to be used comfortably around the house. I used to use the iPad 2 a couple years back as my main media consumption device but switched to the OG Nexus 7 on release day. I recently upgraded to the new Nexus 7 and don't plan on switching to anything larger than 8.9 inches.
If I were you I would pick up a 32Gb and see how you like it. If it's not for you then return it and keep your Nexus 10. If you like it then keep it and sell the Nexus 10.
Either way the N10 and N7 are both great tabs you can't go wrong with.

That's a decision only you can make, honestly! You know what your wants and needs are, we don't. I just bought my '13 Nexus 7 last night from my local Best Buy. That said, I still have and still love my Asus Infinity (10" tablet) and I definitely would NOT sell it! I also have an Evo LTE and a Note 2, but wanted a 7" tablet as well. I was going to buy the Nexus 7 at the first of the year, but heard rumors that an HD version was in the works so I waited for it. I'll still use my Asus Infinity as my primary gaming tablet, played Dead Trigger last night actually. Paired with the Sixaxis app and a PS3 controller, it can't be beat! Especially with its mini HDMI port built in to the side and hooked to me 55" LED TV!! I do like that the Nexus 7 is more portable, and will also use it to read my Google Play Magazine subscriptions. No way I could give up my 10" tablet though! If i had to decide between the 2, I'd take back my Nexus 7 and keep my Infinity, no doubt about it! With the ability to have both though, the Nexus 7 is a nice addition to my Android line-up!! If I were you, and had to decide between the 2, then I'd keep the Nexus 10! That's just MY opinion based on my wants/needs though. That's why I say that only you can decide which device fits your wants/needs the best! Good luck with your decision!!

In a word: No.
I have both the N10 and the N7.
The N10 is a better consumption device. The larger screen is better for watching videos, playing games, browsing the web, reading ebooks - you can fit two pages on it at a time- and you can view magazine pages better on it.
The N7 is more portable. You can hold it with one hand.
The screen on the new nexus 7 is really sharp, I can't tell a difference in reading text on it versus the 10. That combined with the better form factor makes the N10 obsolete for me personally. I don't really think Android (or iOS for that matter) is suited for a 10" screen. Sure it helps if you are watching videos but if I'm watching something for longer than 15 mins I will usually just use my Laptop or TV.
The only thing I miss from the nexus 10 was the TRUE rubber back. The new nexus 7 doesn't really compare to the soft touch of the back cover on the N10.
If you vastly prefer the 10" screen though I would recommend selling anyway, that way you can get a nice chunk of change back to purchase the new nexus 10, which will apparently have a qualcomm in it, none of the exynos bull****.
I think you just being hypnotized by the newness of a new nexus, I am feeling this even though pound for pound my note 10.1 is better, but I will say this, the nexus 7 is a very comfortable and portable device

I'm with you 100%. I bought the 10 but am going to return it. Other than watching movies, I just don't think 16x10 works for a tablet that big. It's awkward to hold and despite being a huge screen I'm always feeling squeezed and wishing it were 4x3.
I find myself using the 7 more. The only time the 10 wins out is if I'm sitting on the couch and can comfortably rest the 10 on my lap. But as soon as I lie down, move around, etc I am reaching for the 7. I don't love 16x7 on the 7 either but its easy enough to hold and type that the length doesn't hinder usability.
If you could I would do both! I have a n10 and note 8. I mainly use the 8 to travel or take it to work and it fits nicely in my glove compartment. My n10 stays at home and is used to play music, games, watch videos and a huge remote for my TV. Some people might think its too much but I find it perfect for my needs. Ohh and I also have a note 2!!! Thinking of picking up the new n7 for the wife.

It's a hard choice. I like bigger screen tablets because I don't have a laptop, but I've been thinking of changing to another tablet for some months now, just because the Nexus 10 is too uncomfortable to use.
That's the only reason. The 7 is too small for web browsing, but everything else should be ok.
Don't know what to do. I won't buy another 10 inch tablet because all of them have the same aspect ratio, so the only choices are keep the Nexus 10 or buy the 7.
It has to be a Nexus tablet obviously.
I had a nexus 10 back I. December/January that I returned. I like it a lot but I couldn't justify it since I already had a nexus 7. My other complaint was the colors and view angles. I hope the next nexus 10 has the same type of panel as this new nexus 7. This panel is literally perfect.

x100.
I tried browsing the web last night with my N7v2, and the screen was just too small. I had to zoom in every time to accurately click on links or the "Next" button on forums.
I will be returning the N7v2 in about a week though - it's a fun toy and all, but I much prefer my N10.
It's funny because I used to agree with the majority of the posters here, about how the N10 is too uncomfortable to hold. I first bought the N7v1 and thought it was perfect to hold. Then I gave it away. Then I bought an N10 and first thought it was too awkward and cumbersome to hold - but after using it for a few days, I got used to it. I also much preferred the larger screen for everything - gaming, quick YouTube videos, browsing the internet - what I mostly do with it. Reading magazines is a pleasure with the 10 inch screen of the N10, but it's way too small for the N7v2.
The N7v2 also isn't as nice to hold as the N7v1. The N7v2 is narrower in portrait mode - which makes it more difficult to text, because your thumbs are overreaching when you search for keys. The N7v2 is also wider in landscape mode - which makes it more difficult to text, because now your thumbs just can't quite reach the keys as easily. The N7v1 is still the best tablet to hold IMO.
Just my opinion though.

I actually just bought a N7v1 for exactly this reason. I think the v2 is going back. It feels soooo much better in my hands. And while the v2 resolution is better I don't have s lot desire to read microscopic fonts. If the characters are small enough to be jagged on the v1 then I'm pinching and zooming anyway. For fonts that are reasonably sized the v1 ppi is fine.
Call me crazy but for $150 new I'll take the v1 until something more appealing comes along.

The thing I don't like about the n10 is that a lot of phone apps force you to turn it in portrait. Blatantly obvious that it doesn't thrive in portrait.

I'm not too much interested in the next one because it probably will be the same size and aspect ratio as the original Nexus 10, which is my only problem with the tablet: 16:10 aspect ratio is uncomfortable.
That's why I was thinking maybe the Nexus 7 would be better, but I'm still not sure.
