nandroid backup/clockwordmod how? - Galaxy 3 General

Hiya, i am in the UK England and have a Samsung Galaxy Apollo GT-5801 which was on orange but unlocked
and now fully rooted using SuperOneClick it's currently running stock ROM and no kernels have been flashed.
so it's basically just rooted.
i have been reading in depth about flashing kernels/roms and seen everyone always saying make a backup
with clockworkmod recovery,
well now i am stuck the apollo according to clockworkmod website and ROM manager doesn't have any
supported application for this model of phone. every time i go to install via rom manager it says sorry this
phone is not supported unless you have installed clockworkrecovery by some other method.
So can someone tell me how i can get Clockworkmod recovery onto my phone with the custom rom it already has?
this way i can make a backup of my nand/phone and be happy that i can just restore it if and when needed.
not really interested in using custom roms i don't want to mess with that side i am happy with the phone as it is
just i wish when holding down power + volume + home button the recovery hboot screen had the clockworkmod instead.
all i rooted the phone for was to get shut of the stock apps taking up space, my phone is now how i like it.
and just want to be-able to make an image to restore back to.
i have tried using premium apps like titanium backup pro but its useless because that only lets you
backup and restore in the phone OS and plus it makes like 150 separate files instead of 1 .img file or zip file
i need something i can backup/restore if my phone one day doesn't boot.
i just downgraded my wife htc wildfire to be-able to root and install cygenmod7 which she is loving.
but that phone has clockworkmod (rooted with unrevoked) so it automatically installed it.
Anyway thats the background, and the reason i really need to get this nand backup working on my phone.
can anyone , anyone who's somehow installed clockworkmod recovery on their Apollo please help me out.
thank you!

Just flash a custom ROM such as Purumod v3. You don't know what you're missing in terms of performance. It's amazing! And it also has CWM pre-installed as do all of the ROMs on this forum. It saves you the hassle of finding the CWM files and having to manually overwrite some of the system files. If you really don't want to install a custom ROM then you can flash the G3Mod kernel which has CWM pre-installed or you can move this file to /system/bin.

Thanks for the quick reply, i looked into the G3mod Kernel it states there that the latest version is available
but when you click the download link to the files the latest there is a kernel below that.
code.google.com/p/g3modteam/downloads/list
if you look there the latest version they have is G3MOD_2.4.1_NON-OC.zip but there is a thread in G3MOD advertising 2.5
but i cannot see or find this 2.5 anywhere, obviously i want the latest as it includes the latest CWM version from what i can tell
on the features list.
unless i am blind 2.5 is not available at the link above sorry not got 10 posts so can't post the actual link?

WOW fantastic i just don't get it!! how did you find that? comes to something when the
Original Poster who's giving his links out to download his kernels can't even seem to provide 2.5
but yet someone who isn't the creator seems to have all the files current.
thanks much appreciated, wonder why 2.5 isn't on the google downloads site?
all his other files are there just missing 2.5 for some bizarre strange reason

Its because the Dev who uploaded version 2.5 forgot the Google code password and I would recommend using fugumod kernel and the cwm file I posted since G3MOD kernel doesn't give as good battery life as fugumod.
Click thanks if I helped.

wouldn't it be a good idea for him to maybe edit his first post explaining that and maybe putting on mediafire or some other hosting.
lol people like me wouldn't be scratching their heads reading a thread which is all about this kernel but the kernel is no where to be found.
much appreciated guys,

Pershoot's kernel is great for extending battery life. Virtuous is a sense based ROM with lots of tweets. CM Nightlies are experimental(sometimes very unstable) builds that are built every night with the new commits.
All can be flashed the same was through ROM Manager/ClockworkMod Recovery. Just always remember to make a nandroid backup before you flash anything, so if anything goes wrong you can revert to the backup that works.
Lol - I know lots of people don't know what a nandroid is. It's the backup option in ROM Manager/recovery.
ok thanks and after i flash something how can i get everything back ,,i have to go rom manager and look for something ?

I'm sorry I'm having trouble understanding your question? Do you mean how do you restore a backup that you made? Well first off be sure that you go through ROM manager to make a backup just go to "Backup current ROM". Do this before you make any changes or flash new ROMs.
In order to restore to your backup, go to ROM manager, go to "Manage and Restore Backups" you can then click and restore from a backup that you made.

If your talking about google apps then you need to d/l the latest gapps file. Many of the ROM's already have google apps installed but for instance the Cyanogen nightly's don't.
If your talking about something else please be more specific.

No. Your bootloader should remain the same. You can flash away with all 3.2.x roms.
Just DON'T install a leaked ICS rom or you will get a new bootloader... The cooked ICS roms are OK, just not the leaks...

No problem. You can always go back to factory un-rooted just by installing a stock rom.in most cases anyhow. Let me know if you have any issues with the install.

Well, you can always post over at androidtabletgeeks. We don't have such limits. It's just a new site is all.
As with battery power, here is what I know.
Your battery life, is pretty much controlled by the kernel that is being used. This is not considering apps, and running processes which also use battery. But more so by the kernels ability to overclock (OC), and at the same time, use undervoltage (UV). UV is where you save a lot of battery when only concerning the OS itself. This is purely kernel controlled.
The object, or holy grail, as I say, is to find the lowest amount of UV based on CPU speed. At least UV enough to where you still have stability on the tab. Find the lowest amount of power required.
Here-in lies the problem. You only have 4 different kernel Dev's to choose from. And guess what? They all own a500's. And because of this, most of the newer kernels work fine on an a500, but with the 501, we get what is called 3g freeze or sleep of death. Both requiring re-boots. Sometimes you may go for a day without getting it. But it will happen if you use your 3g often enough. Some people aren't familiar with this, and just ignore it sometimes thinking the rom or app is messed up.
As with good kernels to use, I can say this;
1. Stock kernel (GPL compliant)
2. RichardTrip's 3.4 villain+ (current in rom) (GPL compliant)
3. Drelisdee earlier version kernel (GPL compliant)
4. Thor2002ro current version (untested and non-GPL compliant)
As with battery power, well, I can't tell you if Taboonay 2.2 compares. I believe Vache uses a RichardTrip kernel, just not aware which one. You can always experiment with kernels, as long as you follow the correct procedures.
As in roms, one would hope the newest version of HC would require a little less power to function. Just watch for the 3g freeze, usually when in the browser.

Don't worry. Nobody has ever made a paperweight from my roms
Just make a recovery backup of your current system through RA Recovery. Typically this generally provides some safety. I've never known a recovery image to be bad when running HC 3.2.x. It happens on rare occasions.
Only lately on the ICS "betas" have I seen some corrupted stuff.

Thanks for the comments!!!
It is probably because you are missing the 2 library files that are necessary for polaris Office to run.
I am at work now and don't have access to my files, so do the following;
Search the threads here at XDA, as you should be able to find a polaris office zip somewhere in either the dev, general or q&a forum. I remember putting one up some time ago (non flashable).
or
Download one of the Honeycomb 3.2.x roms that include polaris office, open the zip (do not extract it), then I belive in the lib folder, you will find the 2 polaris office lib files. They are easy to locate. Copy these into the same folder on your tablet. Then reboot and they should work.
As with DNLA apk, If you look near the bottom of my Rom post, you will see a link to a zip for the Acer System Apps. Unzip to your PC, and copy the apk you want, and also the Odex file. Copy to your tablets system/app folder, the reboot. Should work.

Well, generally, I use my Win7 to format my Ext SD Card to FAT32. As with PDF files, I run Docs to Go full version, and haven't noticed any issues.
If you format your SD Card, make sure you copy the contents to your PC First. Personally, I have 2 extra SD cards that I use. Always nice to have an original

Dear Longhorn Developer tenorntex is there a posibity that you can make this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933517

You could likely safely flash those on top of his rom, make a backup and try.
If it doesnt work just restore and you dont lose anything.

[Q]Circles after installing Cyanogenmod on Galaxy Y

Hi I am new to android. I decided to install CyanogenMod on my Indian sgy rooted and had stock rom with Touchwiz and android 2.3.6. So I got some instructions from here . Then I downloaded the file of around 120MB.I booted into recovery mode. I selected update from SD card and then selected CWM.zip I got from XDA thread. It entered the CWM and then I selected Format system, Clear cache and clear Dalvik cache. Then I selected the update from SD card and then selected the CM zip file of 120MB I had in my phone. It installed and then it showed no errors. After conformation I rebooted the phone. It showed Samsung Galaxy Y and then turned black with no Samsung logo. I thought it was doing something and then after 3 minutes I touched the screen it began to draw circles wherever I touched. I thought I bricked the phone. After two minutes I turned it off and then again got into recovery mode and then to CWM mode and got my phone back with Nandroid backup I had.
Was the phone installing and I interrupted it by touching it?
Is there any error on my installation steps?
Kindly reply me how to install this CM and tell me if you get the same and give me the link you used for installing CM
Apologies for poor english if you find any.
you installed cm9
to use cm9 you need to install whitexp kernel else you will have the track pad which you experienced
you should also know cm9 is not stable in this device - no network wifi data etc - all it does is boot

no you will not get stock kernel back by restoring nandroid backup
to go back to stock rom/kernel you need to flash stock rom firmware via odin
This is because the kernels that support cm will format your system to ext - stock kernel does not support ext so your phone will not boot so you need to flash stock rom via odin to go back to stock
all roms including stock based cm7 and aosp are found in the dev section - read the op - full instructions are given there - if you flash a cm7 or aosp rom you will need to flash percys kernel first and reboot to recovery and format system data cache to remove mount errors
choose one that works best for you

Latest version of TWRP for MK809III?
Whats the latest available version of TWRP for the MK809III? The version I have which I think is 2.7.0.0 is saying /system can't be mounted when trying to do a backup. I'm running v4 of this rom which seems to be a solid 4.4 kitkat rom: http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...5266-mk809iii-kitkat-4-4-smic717394-1080p-rom
Maybe you can ask the guy who's rom you're using, I see is a quite good rom.. And the developer should know how to make a zip with updated twrp.
But I don't think you need a backup.. I must have flashed my device 100 times and didn't have any problems..

Hi @famewolf do you have the link of D33's kernel AP6210 4.2.5? Because the web "freak-tab.de" seems to be down. I'm trying to flash the same rom. If you don't have this kernel which you flashed? Greetings.

The site I listed was from freaktab.com not freak-tab.de and the rom files in that thread are pulling up fine pointing to mediafire links.

I already have the rom from the mediafire link that you mention, the one i need is the d33's kernel and my question is, if you have this kernel or which kernel do you flashed with the rom?

The one that came with it. I never claimed to be running another kernel.

Ok thanks, i will flash the rom with that one.
@famewolf Successfully flash, it works everything ok! I have a very last question, my memory ram is from 2GB but after flash it just shows 1GB. That's because the parameters files? Do you had the same issue?

Yes the parm file used determines how much space is allocated to system and how much to user.
Put a microsd card in with an sd-ext partition and use linksd to move the apps to it and you won't have to worry about space.
Hi @vonuzu which is the stock kernel for the stock rom that you linked? I mean "MK809III new Working". Because i can't find it.

The roms that are linked are as i find them on various chineese sites. They are posted as I find them, no aditional files. All you need is just to flash them. I guess the kernel is whitin the files.

Yup you're right. I just flashed the firmware file and the kernel is inside. Thanks for the reply.
