[MOD] suggestion for a webtop solution on AOSP/CM/AOKP - Atrix 4G General

I found this tread that makes an install of Linux on every mobilephone, could this be usefull?? I am not a developer but I think this thing belongs to Development, if not I am sorry and ask mods to move this.

So what you want to do is install webtop as a linux OS on the atrix?
I think its not posible...but maybe Im wrong
from the (m)ATRIX...

Quote from that thread:
This projects aim is to bring a range of linux distros to your android device through a method known as 'chroot',

As far as I know, this is already available for the Atrix's webtop since forever ago, through debian chroot (and possibly webtop2sd).

Since this is a project working on also other devices w/o webtop functionality, maybe it could help in having webtop in cyanogenmod and other custom ROM builted from sources!

I know, but I posted the link here so that maybe some devs could possibly integrate it into a ROM so that when you connect the phone to tv/dock it boots automatically into linux distro!

It doesn't work like that. You have to actually start the hardware side of things on the tegra2 chip, it has nothing to do with the chroot linux distro, which is very old news (and all the devs know about it). What you essentially have to do is code the x session to send itself over the seperate hdmi output frame buffer, which also has to be triggered and deactivated properly.
No developer has been interested in really trying it. Jokersax was working on it at one point in CM9, but scrapped it due to upstream changes that broke his code.
This doesn't really belong in this section, and I've given you the actual reason why there's more to this than you think. Also, as I said, everyone knows about running linux on android in this fashion, as it's a very old project at this point.

Yup, chroot methods won't help a bit
I believe that webtop on cm is something that Samcripp is still trying to make work...

When the official ICS comes out, we just might have webtop on cyanogenmod

The gingerbread webtop is a hack by Motorola. Even tho is a linux distribution its tightly woven into android libraries. This libraries without source can't be added into cm7.
Cm9 is different. Ics is capable of switching to tablet mode. Offering a better option than just plain locked down linux. We shall see.

Using Gingerbread as a base presumably?
Given the amount of "non-standard" hardware in the SGS2, you'll need support libs from either an existing non-AOSP OEM firmware, or from CM7 won't you?

Lol no he can't. There isn't a FULL system dump of the Galaxy Nexus yet. There is only the dump from the SDK. He will probably theme it like Ice Cream Sandwich. Anyways good luck to the dev
source is the power, says cyanogen. wont this be useless when the sources are released? wont this feel like wasting cuz when sources is released, other devs will easily make those ICS roms, instead of porting it.
well anyway good luck to the dev!

That's not the point. Of course, a dump would be a lot better. But being the first to port and get a working SDK rom... Now that's where the fun is
It is possible, we have the full SDK ROM.

I for one don't see this working as every device seems to be getting the same LibC error at the moment (except for some reason the G2).
The best hope seems to be getting a HC rom to work then using the boot.img from that to boot the ICS sdk port. (this is what we believe happened with the G2 to get it to boot)
I would be satisfied with the new gmail application including widget
Cheers!
Looking to try .Hope you have a great ICS.

Onskreen cornerstone for true multitasking

I've just seen the news about onskreen going multitasking,,,,,,went to download,,,,,,,,,,,but really I don't know what to download and how to use it on my TF101G
As far as i know:
Cornerstone is no app as you understand it. It is something like a "launcher".
The problem is that cornerstone has to be integrated into the os by the manufacturer himself because it has to be integrated deeply into the os.
So you won't see cornerstone on tablets unless a manufacturer decides to implement it.
Or someone takes the AOSP code from google and releases a complete rom. But i think that would be a lot of work. I don't think that someone would do this. It would be awesome to see this im cyanogenmod^^. I mean both are open source now.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I think I saw someone with a Xoom that has it.. (from Reddit). It would be awesome if we got it too.. I need to learn to make roms in my spare time.
it has to be baked into the rom its not a apk u run
I would love to try this too !
The "simple" way would be to get source from a rom, to integrate it and build the rom. But the integration step is unfortunatly not simply I think :/
Integrating difficulties is just one of the problems... for example Cornerstone requires ICS.. which we don't have.

Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
^^ what he said but the expand on that we need a rom that is fully deodexed or one that has a full source code available so that it can be baked in without signature errors + we need a apk dev and a rom dev (Or one that can do both) to put it all together

This may help ICS development....

Our Tegra 2 is the AP20H board right? Well other than MOTO specific drivers like finger print reader/webtop shouldn't this help in making a full port with everything working like full acceleration and the like? http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9103_galaxy_r-3967.php It has the same board and has official ICS. Sorry if this is a repost, just trying to help the cause.
We need a new kernel, the drivers alone don't help us.

Yeh this has been looked at already =/
We do have the drivers needed, but we don't have a compatible kernel, as I've said many times. We can only get the kernel from Motorola.

That's the Atrix 2 (OMAP), and that's Ubuntu for Android rather than Ubuntu Phone OS.
Ubuntu for Android, as I understand it, is basically the Webtop that we've already had for some time now and uses the kernel already on the device, whereas Ubuntu Phone OS is a complete replacement for Android, but the details themselves are a bit sketchy, like what display server they're using, what kernel is supported. Wouldn't it be both ironic and disappointing if it required an ICS/JB kernel, especially since we still have a Froyo/GB kernel.

Yeah, he identifies the device about 10 seconds or so in, but admittedly if he didn't the only other way to identify it would be process of elimination, looking at the logo's and figuring it out that way.
Guys, there's a post of saiftheboss7 that he mention that he made a request to Mark Shuttleworth, Ubuntu's Guru. You can upvote that request so that the Ubuntu Kahuna sees that us Atrix users want the Ubuntu OS for our beloved A4G. I can't post links right now, too noob for the forum, but you can check it out in this section.

I don't think this will be fully working without an ICS Kernel.
I think an effort like this worths a try, since we can aways update the userspace ubuntu packages, keeping the old kernel. I don't see why the old gingerbread kernel wouldn't work.

Trying to port JB ROM

Hey guys.
I am new to android developing.
I started by porting the CM10.1 ROM from HTC Desire, but my phone is stuck at the Huawei logo when it boots up.
I can still flash another ROM, but that is not the problem.
I want to know how to fix this. I want it to go past the Huawei Logo.
By the way, I used this procedure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598713 and I used Aurora ICS 5.0 for the base ROM. I know it doesn't have the same version of android, but there is no reason I shouldn't be experimenting like this.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Seriously, I have no idea when I will be releasing a fully functional ROM. Because I have my studies as well, so I don't get much time to work on the ROM.
The audio is working in this ROM (wasn't working in the previous port),
The things that are currently not working are:
- WiFi
- Bluetooth
- Video Recording
I will try my best to do as much as possible.
I am new at building android ROMs, so please don't expect too much from me
I will be needing some help from other developers as well.
Do you think I should make a thread for this? or is there already enough not-fully functional JB ROMs there?

I would like to build Jelly Bean from source, like Blefish is doing right now, but I need a 64bit computer for that (mine is only 32bit. Unless there is a hack for this, I can't build from source.

Our device will remain compatible with every new android untill android will be using some new architecture of processor, so "sometimes it's better to stay silent".
OP, abandon your trials of getting a working JB using copy-paste ports. It can be only ported from source.
P.S.: just install ubuntu x64 and try to build something like CWM recovery out of forumber's source. If it builds, you can build anything you want. Today's computers know how to emulate x64. I'm myself using an old pentium d 820 (i386, sse2 and that's all) and I can build.

So I can install ubuntu x64 on my x86 laptop? Are you talking about a virtual machine or installing ubuntu x64 on the actual laptop?
And as for others: Instead of saying that JB is not compatible with our device and all that sh*t, why don't you encourage me and give me some solutions.
Anyways, I am not posting this JB ROM until it's fully functional, because I might stop development as well (getting interested in firefox os).

First of all, your CPU must support x64,If it supported, you can install x64 to you computer.
If you want install x64 system in virtual machine (like VirtualBox),you CPU must support VT-x or AMD-V (virtualization).
You can check virtualization and x64 support via SecurAble;
