camera does'nt work in some apps - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Just got my hands on a Defy Plus, it's running CyanogenMod 9.
Now, the camera on it self is working fine, that is with the app it came with.
Other apps like instagram and camscanner work fine too,
But most apps i try to run, that need a cam (barcode scanners, joke photo makers etc.) just show a blank black screen instead of cam image.
This feels to me like a permissions issue, but being new to this whole smartphone thing, i wouldn't know where to start.
Any insights?
Thanks.

try CM10
it is now more stable an most f the features are working

Hi. Not sure, but it might be a kernel issue. Which kernel is flashed to your defy?

na beta, ics wont be easy at all
they added a lot of stuff, and changed lots of things
but fir bhi, it would have been harder if there was no aosp rom for our device, but still its a lot to do
Wanna race?
I will try on my side in Freetime
Damn you Google...
Just so people interested in compiling the sources know :
I wanted to compile sources.
repo did not work : you CAN'T use last python3, downgrade to python 2.7
make : you CAN'T use last make 2.82, downgrade to make 2.81
Java you CAN'T use last openjdk7, you CAN'T use opejdk6, downgrade to sun's java 6 SE
Perl : you CAN'T use perl 5.14, downgrade to perl 5.12...
maybe more, but I can't tell you, because I gave up from there....
come on... what the hell Google ?!
Bruno.
Well looks like CM9 will be out in about 2 months..hope it gets ported to our device soon after that.

Maybe you could ask him for directions?
Because MarcellusBE tried but couldn't boot, if he could boot it, maybe he could also delete some of the bugs (since he had to do the same for CM&).
Also another question from me, did he port from Sources or from the SDK?
Because the things you explained reminded me of the ICS SDK port (No touchscreen working, no camera or wifi and the changing of the dpi(link to that thread here))

[q] What FAST rom you recommend for Defy?

Hi,
Recently I got to conclusion it is time to change my defy to smth. faster. I thought to myself though that I will give it one last try by playing around with rom and settings. For a very long time I had stock froyo rom.
Last week I tried Cyanogen which constantly produced errors on my device so I ditched it not wanting to waste any more time (these were both Gingerbread and ICS versions). Then I tried newest MIUI. At first it looked OK, but when I installed a little bit of gear on it started to act a little bit sluggish. I see close to no difference in overall phone performance from my old Froyo.
So this is basically my last attempt to "save defy". I am looking for a FAST AND CLEAN rom. What I care about is performance. I really do not care about fancy switches, beatiful tollbars, tons of extra stuff that is built into the rom.
Any suggestions?
Best regards,
Kordi

Are you sure? From what I see it isn't very "clean" rom. I don't say it is a bad thing, just that I look for something more... "spartan"...

what do u mean by clean rom?
The less embedded apps the better... i.e.: I really don't need MotoPhonePortal embeded in the ROM. Ideally it would have everything that is not essential removed.
I have installed CM7.2 or WhiteRabbit and I'm very happy with this rom. The only problem I find is some flash content. Pikachu 2.4.20 is another alternative. I like less, but this is personal.
Hi, I wrote above that I tried some instances of Cyanogen and it does not work on my device. Besides Cyanogen is not a "clean"rom.

Any details why? I don't find pleasure in trying numerous ROMs and reinstalling everything in my phone 3 times during the week. I would like to know what to expect... especially that all Cyanogen ROMs I tried didn't work properly on my phone.
Hello Kordi666,
Maybe wanna try MS2Ginger from walter79.
It is Gingerbread Android Version with Moto Blur. I use it because I bought my phone because of MotoBLur and this Rom is very fast with this but I recommend to overlock to 1Ghz.
This is the most useful thing to get your Defy fast.
Best regards,
mpeg
The ROM I would recommend
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654
Its Android version 2.3.7
Its from Quarx and its fast, stable and give long battery up time. You can trust it 100%.
Please hit the Thanks button if this was useful.
Another option to consider would be the the deblurred GGL ROM, which seems fairly responsive and uncluttered and has good battery life and can be simplified further by freezing apps with TB:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500286
I installed the Rom by aneeshcphilip - WIUI. The first one that was mentioned in the thread and so far I am very pleased. I did not have the opportunity to test the battery properly but so far it seems to work very well.
This time I revised all the software that I was used to installing and I resigned from many apps that I was used to coming to conclusion that I do not need them and I install them only due to my habits i.e. set vsel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397059
All default waste apps and bloats removed. Must try.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA
sorry if i answear you only now
i think it's perfect because it's really smooth, great performance, long battery life, nice ui and it has only really usefull apps.. till now it's the best rom i've tried!
maybe use also droidx to change your governor and you'll have a super defy!
EDIT:
i'm speaking about white rabbit!
Sh....t So I bricked my phone. Everything was fine after I installed WIUI until smth happened with one of my apps that I couldn't uninstall it even with Titanium Backup. So I wanted to do factory reset. After reset, the rom stopped seeing my SD card and I got constant error massage about faulty messaging process. I tried caouple of other roms and all the time the same error. One more factory reset under normal recovery and now my phone stops at Motorla sign.
Any help guys? This would be much appriciated.
Flash this Full SBF using RSD Lite and u will be back to Stock Froyo.
U can then again flash ur Fav ROM.

[Q] Quarx Cm 10 2ndboot update

Helo,
i have a red lens motorola defy, a moth ago i install the cm 10 24.09 build and it works great.
i have seen that there is a 2ndboot builde a week ago and i didnt understand what its meaning so i just wipda date and the chace and install the new build (which i think its slower that the first one, does it make any sence?)
but now i want to update to 21.10 new build and i dont understand how to do that! (and before you ask, i haven't found nothing on the web)
at first i thought it should been done from the defy rom updater but if i choose check updates it only showing me that the latast version is the 24.09 build.
but i dont really a big android smart, i now the basic but defently not everything. how do i update to latest build (except if it delete the date, its not my phone so its a problem evenwith beckup)

Already Whiped Cache and Dalvik Cache?
Right Base Rom?
If that doesnt work flash the normal Rom again(dont forget the whipes)
Does anyone know how to add the vibrate/ring toggle in the lock screen slider? Been googling it for a few days now and can't seem to find it. The activities also don't help.
BTW. ROM is awesome. Fluid and it looks beautiful too. Had the battery drain issues with 10/18 but after the 10/21 update is working much better. Defy MB525, red lens (yellow, actually, but still Bayer module).
TIA...

Download the latest ROM (big in size, >100mb), flash it.
Restart, press vol down when blue blinks. The wipe cache and dalvik cache. Install from zip, select file install. Wipe cache and dalvik cache again.
Then for kernel update, download the latest (low I'm size, <10mb), flash it as above.
Can do both together at once too.
Cheers!

Thank you, I got that, but that adds the button to the power control in the notification bar. I know now you can pull the notification down now, but I wanted to achieve the good old swype left to mute as it was in Ginger, Froyo and al the way back. You know, a habit is a habit.
I tried an app from the market for this an assigned it to one of the slots in the swype. That did work, but it has an unwanted secondary effect - it also unlocks the screen. So I reverted it all back.
Thanks all the same... thanks button hit.

I could, but it would be a couple of days at least before I could even try. I'm busy making stock roms for the Atrix HD from its fastboots and converting the Xperia Z XXHDPI icons to XHDPI for a rom I'm working on. Might have to test an Atrix HD Miui as well . Once I'm done with that crap I'll give it a shot.
To do it yourself, use a PC a zip manager, and text editor -- 7-Zip & Notepad ++ for Windows, File Roller & Gedit on Linux, Whatever's appropriate on a Mac~
The apps I recommend are the one that I use for doing this and know work properly for what we're doing. DO NOT USE STOCK NOTEPAD OR WORDPAD ON WINDOWS -- YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.
Use Latest Quarx CM10 for Bravo and Latest Defy MIUI
Open Defy Miui
Delete libbayercamera.so, liboemcamera.so, libsoccamera.so
Take any think that says libcamera from Bravo CM10 from /system/lib and put them in Defy Miui zip (libcamera_client.so, libcameraservices.so, libkobecamera.so)#
Go to /system/lib/hw in Defy Miui
Rename any file with jordan to kobe** (gps.jordan.so to gps.kobe.so, camera.jordan.so to camera.kobe.so -- same for the rest)
Open Miui build.prop
Search and Replace works good for this part (CTRL+H with Linux's Gedit)
Replace any jordan with kobe**
Replace any 525\526 with 520*
Replace any Defy with Bravo*
Go to the bottom, set camera to ClassA, 3m, & delete the 2 flash lines
Save build.prop
Go to /system/etc in Defy Miui
Replace mot_ise_imager_cfg.bin
Replace media_profiles.xml
Delete the Defy camera cal files
IF the Miui rom is custom kernel
Go to /system/bootmenu/ in Miui Defy and delete everything. Add in /system/bootmenu from Quarx Bravo CM10%$
Go to /system/lib/modules in Miui Defy and delete everything, replace with Bravo CM10.%
Click to collapse
The only other thing that might need to be done is replacing Miui's /system/lib/libandroid_runtime.so. If it boots and runs you don't have to. If it loops, replace it.
* These can be skipped if you don't mind being branded as a Defy
** These two are mutually exclusive, whatever the value is in build.prop is what the gps.propvalue.so should be in /system/lib/hw -- you'll bootloop if they're different
# Can be skipped if you don't take pictures or would like to use the Defy's libsoccamera.so to take 16:9 848x480 widescreen videos. Its one or the other -- Defy driver with no photo camera but better\widescreen videos or Bravo driver with photo camera but only 4:3 aspect videos.
$ This is to use the Bravo's kernel and ramdisk, if Miui is stock kernel based, ignore this step
% Custom Kernel roms only
~ I've only ran a Mac for 30 minutes, OS 7 or 8, and all I did was make it cuss and say dumb things with the text to speech option. I couldn't wrap my head around a mouse with only 1 clicker :silly:
Funny, the above reads really similar to how you port basically any Defy rom to the Bravo ICS+ and I know I've posted that tutorial before. These same instructions work for GB roms as well, just slightly modify accordingly.
thanks man!!

I'm not. I just have to play with my new toy for a bit.
Good luck with that. I'll help you test if you get it going.
I have my hands full trying to get any Atrix HD ICS rom to work with the AT&T JB kernel. Best I've done so far is getting the Canadian Bell ICS to finish gapps setup and get to the homescreen. Bootloops about a minute after that and I'll get maybe 30 seconds of screen time -- stressing maybe cause it only happened 3 out of 8 tries.. Can't get a logcat or even have the phone recognized over usb. Getting it to a partially working system, even if only for a minute, lets me know that it could possibly fully work.
Highly unstable

How can I make it stable, any idea???
If you can, upload what you're working on and I'll try it out. That'll be easier than asking for logcats and giving you ideas to try.
What gapps did you use? I always use the Defy Minimal gapps.

Gapps depends on the rom -- some come with them, some don't.
You can upload to anywhere -- Mediafire, Google Drive, Dropbox, whatever's convenient for you.

Guidance to start my Note3 from scratch

Hello guys,
Around 3 months ago, I just rooted my device and tried to play with some rooms/kernels that didn't work.
After all, my phone have some problems:
The camera never work for recording. Whatsapp video, Snapchat bvideo or Default camera video. I'm just able to use the camera to take photos.
When I keep seeing videos on my Instagram for like 2-5 minutes, the phone auto reboot.
When I watch a video on facebook or youtube or any other "stream-like" source, the video freezes and the audio continues.
Well, I know that I have enough problems for a new start. But this time I want to make it right. I need you guys give me some advices to:
What kernel I might pick?
What room I should use?
I'm a really restricted person in termos of features. I dont need customized UIs and so.. I love clean rooms, that have the " only enough" stock features without too much random and unusable stock apps.
Thanks in advace for your help.
Some information from my device:
Model: SM-N9005
Baseband: N9005VJUEND1
AryaMod 8.1

Flash a stock Lollipop ROM and the head to AryaMod 8.1 thread and follow the instructions. Its a stock rom with load of features (try selecting the Note 3 features while installing, as few users have faced Weather widget issues with few Note 5 and S6 widgets). Also you have an option to select what system apps you want (don't select all). Also option to select Idle or Stock kernel while installing.

THanks for the help, guys !
Do you think that my problem is related with the ROM ? Im asking because since I got a bit confused with kernels, Im afraid i do the whole new process for the ROM and stick with the problems..
Hey,
flash the old 4.4.2 KitKat from SamMobile with the right PIT-File to start fresh over. Dont use the Lollipop-Update its full of bugs and not much apps/tweaks-support. Use the Stock-Firmware with Root and arter97-kernel. Get Titanium-App from Store and erase every bloatware. Thats all - you get a clean software with no bloatware.

If that's the case then first go on stock firmware and then flash ROM that u want skating stock firmware will get back u towards the original kernel of your phone

Seems reasonable.
I have found this version to download: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/39881/N9005VJUGNI1_N9005ZTMGNI1_ZTM/
And I guess you are talking about this kernel version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development/arter97-kernel-galaxy-note-3-t3028148
I didnt get what you mean about "Titanium-App" thing. Its titanium backup app you are talking about?

I mean the Titanium Back Up, yes.
Thats right, download all files and flash it. Dont forget to use a pit-file if you want a real fresh start.
Yeah, where to get the "right" PIT file? That's the bigger question.
