Custom boot animations? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if there are any custom boot animations that would work well with this device? I can't seem to find any.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium

Most phone and tablet Boot Animations will work on here, just make sure you put them in the right folder. You can look around in other tablet threads and get them from there if you like. If it's a boot animation from a phone it will only fill up the center part of the screen, but it still looks fine that way in my opinion.
RomToolbox also has a decent collection of Tablet and Nontablet BAs if you want to check that out too. Don't know if you need the paid version or not for those though.

Thanks! Would boot animations from tablets with larger screens work? Also, sorry for the nooby question, but how would I add one?

No problem, glad to help
They will, but depending on the way it was made it might get cut off on the edges. You can actually edit the text file in the bootanimation.zip to do a rudimentary resize for the N7 but you can find those instructions in a different thread.
To install a custom one though, just download whichever one you want, rename it "bootanimation.zip" and replace the one in the system/media folder on the root of your phone. When you restart it'll play.
If any of that was unclear let me know and I'll explain it differently. I have a tendency to talk a lot and confuse people lol

Thats the file responsible for the bootscreen. Seems microsoft have switched for a .dll this time round. Will probably be ages until someone works out how the hell to make a custom one.

Yup. But at least we can use that fish thing that came with versions of win 8 before.
Can anyone pls mirror that bootres.dll?

Why do people care about bootlogo in this day and age of the hybrid sleep mode since Win7? I think the only time I see a boot logo is after a reboot due to Windows Updates or driver updates. With SSD pretty common these days, that boot logo is on the screen for maybe 5-6 seconds.

Agreed. Even on my HDD based system its on the screen for 7 seconds. At the end of the day is 4 blue squares, not particularly offensive to look at.

Agreed on that part. But as a desktop user, I am not used to the sleep mode and do not use it consistently. Though windows 8's booting time is quite less, the plain 4 blue blocks look a bit cheap to me. Even windows 7 boot logo looked quite good. I don't mind sacrificing some seconds for a beautiful animation which rejuvenates my energy and gives me a good feel overall.
Not a big thing but if its there, then why not use it.
Pls again, can someone mirror that bootres.dll given on that website?

We cant mirror it when we cant get the file in the first place, all in the same boat as you.

Lol. And I thought the op must be having it. But the fish is still better than those four stupid blue quadrilaterals

So does anyone know anything about how this can be done?
yes. swapping the dll I already mentioned.
As for creating custom dll's for new images. No.
I wouldn't bother with the boot logo. It's on screen for less than 20 seconds. I understand that you don't think it's 'pretty', but it's not worth it.
If it bothers you that much, make a cup of tea while it boots.....
found this which may help you.
you cant change the boot logo but you can hide it

pie controls

i am searching for a link for pie controls with the expanded desktop option.ive been googling and found nothing too useful.paranoid android has a nice one but i dont want the rom i just want a flashable zip for my stock set up.
You can get pie from the market. It is called LMT Launcher. As far as expanded desktop. I am not sure...
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
If you can't find it in the market, search it here on XDA.

I've tried pie from the market and didn't really like it and I have lmt but I can't figure out how to remove the navbar.I will try lmt again
I added this in /system/buildprop. qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
Did a reboot and navbar was gone.

GMD gesture control (play store) can remove your navbar.
Also disables your wallpaper though.
Conclusion: Man up, and install a custom ROM.
Maybe because I don't like custom roms I like to keep it stock

If you like stock then you wouldn't like PIE controls. If you want custom stuff then you use a custom rom.
It really kills me when people say they want to stay stock but with customizations. These are nexus devices. All custom ROMs are just stock with built in options. Where do you think the source code comes from... *hint* it's stock source from Google.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I love how people intrude with their sarcasm.....no sh%$ its built off source code its also built off a persons own customizations on how they want things right? I want my nexus to be the way I want it to be not the way everyone else is getting it.if you are a recognized developer you would know such things, correct?you do what you want with your tab and I do what I want with mine.any questions, please pursue me at 807 kolani drive wailuku,hi 96793
I love how people post their address on an open forum saying "come fight me bro! #swag #YOLO #blahblahblahnoonereallycares."
You were given options. Take them or leave them. But for the love of the flying spaghetti monster in the sky, don't whine, complain or try to act like an Internet bada$$ when you get butt hurt from someone's response. It is childish and moronic. Either take the advice you ask for or not. But you can gtfo and do it yourself if you got a problem with people's responses.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Ugh... this is getting ugly.
podagee... you can't have it both ways... either pure stock or custom... take your pick.
My own ROM of choice has PIE/Expanded desktop options, but is reasonably close to stock in all other regards.
If you want these features, then custom is the way to go.
Rgrds,
Ged.
There is absolutely no need to install a custom rom to enjoy pie and expanded desktop.
-> First install the most recent version of LMT Launcher http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150 . Set it up any way you like and set it to autostart on boot. (Tip: make sure there is a menu button in your pie.)
-> Second edit your build prop. You can use a build prop editor, or droid edit, or es file explorer or any other text editor that can handle root files. You can find your build prop in /system/build.prop . At the end of the file insert the line qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 .
-> Reboot and it's done. This is how I used pie when I was on stock.
Now I switched to cyanogenmod, which has build in expanded desktop, so editing the build prop isn't necessary anymore. I still prefere LMT over cyanogenmod's pie though.
Nobody said anything about fighting.and BTW I asked about pie controls not Roms get it?a simple question and you guys give a stupid answer **** it close this thread, cause what I wanted was help and instead some know it all asshole jumps in with idiotic remarks.
Gedblake and westervoort thanks.simple like that is how its supposed to be not nitpick at bs.I however managed to add pie controls almost exactly like paranoid android, almost.it turned out really nice so it is possible.I don't like custom cause I've been running into issues with battery and freezes. So I am just going to remain stock, but, remember it is possible to do whatever you want, even if stock.thanks guys.

Hi, podagee...
Yeah... sorry for for the slightly irascible post. Guess it's all about relative perspective's - from my point of view, the easiest way of accomplishing your desired goal was to flash a ROM... but Westervoort knew of a way that obviated that need, which I didn't know about.
As I have said elsewhere, 'not everybody can know everything'.
Anyway, glad you found a solution (whatever that might be) that you're happy with.
Good luck...
Rgrds,
Ged.
If everyone who started posted remarks before reading everything, please be sure to read all posts before adding in your 2 pennies.as I've stated in the beginning of this thread I've already found a way for pie and a way to hide the navbar.thanks

[Q] Volume change sounds from HTC One

I've searched the forums, but I can't find exactly what I'm looking for. I downloaded the HTC One system dump and it has multiple sound files for each volume level change on the device. I'm wondering if there's a simple way to port that over to the GS4 because I really like that effect. Any help would be appreciated.
Just search through your phones / system/media and change them to what you want. If you need more help feel free to send me a PM and whenever I get off work ill go more in depth

I've been tinkering with replacing UI sounds, but the One has a different flac file for each volume level and each sound is slightly higher in pitch than the last. I was searching through the system folder, but I didn't find anywhere that had the same multiple volume files, so I think it's something proprietary that they've got going on. Maybe it's just a part of the sense 5.0 UI.

Themers beware

If you are like me, and the biggest joy you get from owning an Android phone is theming your phone until it is totally badass and unmistakably yours, then you are going to want to wait on the Note 4.
I got mine the other day, rooted, and began tearing into apks. Here's what I images I found in the drawables:
1) a whole bunch of .astc images (ARM)
2) A lot of .qmg files (Samsung)
3) a few .9's you can work with
4) 0 png images.
You can do limited themes on them. But nothing great. Until someone figures out how to extract/compile these new formats, the only way to do full themes is to port apks from other devices. I am disappointed in what can be accomplished with them so far. I may end up trading for an S5 or Note 3.
qmg's arent new, they are older than android itself.

It's alot of work, but you csn certainly cover all this pkm or other files, to PNGs or jpegs, by deleting the original files, and swapping it out with the image you want. Yes, it's alot of work but once you got a base, its an easy port for newer versions and such
No need to down grade your device, cause all Samsung devices are seeing this transfer in newer files in all apks, cause Samsung is trying to cut down the file sizes. So no matter which way you go, you'll run into this issue! No fun for sure!

Custom Fonts On Verizon Version

Has anybody figured out a way to put custom fonts on their V20 yet? I've tried a few of the random apps on the play store but none of them worked. I know this usually requires root which is pretty lame. Android advertises about how its cool because you can customize your phone to your liking but you can't pick your own font....ironic? What ever happened to just having a FONT folder on your SD CARD and you put whatever .ttf you want and the phone can use it? Guess that's asking too much....thanks Google!

My advice is to download go launcher z. It allows u to use any font on your device.
