Yes, DevHost. Just letting people know, as there may be some users who are unaware of that site

I'd stay away from CX.com. I was sucked in by the amount of free storage they allowed, but in the process of backing up my files more than half of the files on my hard drive were deleted. I did extensive searching, and they were not moved - they were gone. I emailed CX a half dozen times begging for help, hoping it was part of their backup process and that they could help me easily restore the files. I never got a response to any of my emails, and when logged into my account the dashboard said I had no outstanding inquiries - my emails to tech support disappeared just like my files.
In the end I had to go through 500 folders, each with 3-5 subfolders and many files in each one, to find the stuff that had been erased and individually download them back to my PC. There wasn't even a way to DL the folders with all their contents; I had to DL each and every one, one at a time.
Steer clear, and good luck.

Good to know, I actually only tried it once but have since moved to D-H.ST as my main source of uploading, well that and my box, dropbox, accounts

Thanks for sharing! Can I ask a question though, Do any of these cloud services not have a upload size file limit on a free account? I think dev-host says 512mb and CX has a 200mb limit and mediafire also had some limits. I don't remember Box or Dropbox, but are there others(free accounts)?
Sent from my R800i using xda premium

Dropbox or Box hasnt got any limit, except the space your storage. Btw, if you install Box on your Xperia, you will get free 50GB space
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app

If I'm not mistaken box does have an upload size limit (100mb) for free account...but its been a while since I've tried. that was also from the app.

Since my Fire is not rooted, I installed the Drive app on my Droid-X phone and then created an apk file and transferred it to my Fire using Dropbox.
The Drive app installed ok on the Fire but when I try to run it, it says "Cannot find any Google accounts, exiting application" and then it quits. No way to get into the settings for the app.
I'm not sure how to get around this. I have my Gmail setup on the Fire. What other Google account would it be looking for?

[APP] SugarSync, the best Dropbox alternative. 5GB free storage

Hey guys, I recently just decided to join the Dropbox/ Cloud storage initiative. I found the best possible Cloud storage service called SugarSync.
The best thing about it, is that unlike Dropbox, You can sync any folder on your pc, as well as having a Universal folder that syncs with every device like Dropbox.
The second best thing is that you get 5GB of storage instead of 2GB, and upto 32GB through referrals, unlike 16GB in Dropbox.
The last thing I love is that with SugarSync you can Sync entire folders with your phone unlike Dropbox, where you can only sync a file at a time.
Anyway instead of me talking about it have a try for yourself. Just click on this link SugarSync, to get 5.5GB storage instead of the 5GB that comes with it, or click the link in my Signature.
Hope you like it as much as I do.

Also my C++ projects are on it, so I can.work on them anytime, without a usb stick, and then download in class

New cloud storage app

Great service and you get 15 GB just for signing up (5 gigs on sign up and 10 gigs from the promotion they are running).
And if you use the link below to sign up we BOTH get 5 more gigs!
It's called jotta cloud and I am liking it more than drop box. And having my files separated by device is nice (PC, Android, etc).
***removed link, please scroll down to see links others posted***

Some more info provided by another user:
If you sign up till the end of November you will receive 15 GB storage. 10 GB is a bonus for early adopters, the basic and free version of the service will offer 5 GB. But what is interesting the Jottacloud Android app backup and recovery functions and they work really very well.
Some first impressions:
- the online version of the service is in Norwegian by default and you have to switch it manually from Bokmal to English, German, etc.
- in order to receive the extra storage you you have to set up and do at least one synchronisation. After that the extra space should become available to you
- the recovery function works really well and I wonder if it can be used for syncing accross devices (like tablets and smartphones). I cannot test it because I have only one device. Is anyone who can figure it out?
- what is nice you can choose if syncing/Android backup should be done over WiFI/3G
- the upload is blazingly fast. The upload saturates my 40/4 Mb VDSL. I use different storages and Jottacloud is one of the best (like Russian Yandex or Swiss Wuala), far faster than Dropbox or Sugarsync
- there are no size limitations - I uploaded a DVD ISO file (4.3 gigabytes) and had absolutely no problems with it.
- as in other services there is a referral program and one can enlarge the storage space up to 100 GB (according to the service: Invite friends to Jottacloud.Your friend will receive an invitation to Jottacloud by e-mail. Your friend clicks on the link and sign up on Jottacloud. Both you and your friend gets 5 GB of bonus storage You can get up to 100 GB bonus storage).

Used the link and synchronize mms, got 20 gigs. Thanks for the info. The service on my android doesn't appear to let me choose the files or folders to sync. Autosync will only let you sync entire category you pick? 22 thousand pictures, no way. on the laptop I have Linux mint and it won't even let you upload a file to the web interface, I'm sure windows and other more popular OS will sync okay. Thanks again bro.

Dropbox Replacement?

I like that I get the storage with Dropbox with my S4, but I am a little concerned over their privacy policy. I've been eyeing SpiderOak, but I don't know if there is a way to get my S4 to auto-upload SpiderOak, or something similar. I'd even be ok with it encrypting things before they get to DropBox. Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions here?
I use Drop box just for Pictures..take a pic bam goes right to it.I have also was wondering if there was something else out there but for now Drop box seems pretty good haven't had any issues...

Personally I use google drive. But these clouds are good and bad. 10 years later dropbox may still be around but smaller sites may be down or gone. Privacy seems to be the big trend now so I try to let one company (google) store my info rather than having several companies have my info. Samsung probably has your info too. Eye tracking. Clever name. Just call it I'm Tracking you.
Jokes aside the best thing to do is to encrypt your data then put it into the cloud. Takes more time but if its valued pics and videos or docs then its worth it. Other sites you could check are box, copy, and skydrive but im sure they all have the same privacy policies.

I try not to upload anything to any cloud storage without encrypting it first if I would not want the contents on the evening news. Even if it is mundane, boring, everyday data I try to keep it in a secure container before sending it up. I know, email is not any more secure than cloud storage, but I don't email out my financial or more personal information either. I am just getting into the Android OS, but am looking at Cryptonite for a mobile solution. It appears that Cryptonite is compatible with Truecrypt, which would be wonderful. Would be even better if the Linux version of TC could be ported over. Or, maybe it can be. Perhaps someone with more knowledge in that area could offer some direction.
I use Ubuntu One.

[Q] out of space?

My wife just got an M as a replacement for her old Rezound. She has had it for about three weeks and the phone is already telling her she is out of internal storage. However, when I look at her storage it appears that only her "Backup ASSISTANCE Plus" is full. It's unfortunately causing her phone to be worthless. Does anyone know how to fix this? Her phone is completely stock. Thanks in advance.

If you root, you can easily store apps on external. Also, internal is partitioned into 4gb halves. One for the the ROM and the other for media/etc. Personally, I don't understand how people fill that up so quickly. I use very few apps and all my media gets stored to my external SD. I'm still sitting at about 3.5GB available on my storage side.

I understand it's portioned but I've never seen a phone require half of its internal storage. As for media, it's all going to her card. I guess if you use few apps your ok, but that's not the case with a 5 year. You shouldn't have to root for a phone to be functional with a relatively low amount of apps in use.

It came straight from Verizon as a replacement phone so all I know is that it's a refurbished phone. I cleaned up the backup assistance so hopefully that will help. I have a theory that triggered the warning and loss of functionality. We'll see. If it pops back up, it's going back to Verizon.

Makes sense since this phone is loaded with it. This is our first Motorola smartphone. Is that a Motorola issue with excess bloat? I know all phones have it but this seems like a lot considering the limited amount of internal memory.

Makes sense since this phone is loaded with it. This is our first Motorola smartphone. Is that a Motorola issue with excess bloat? I know all phones have it but this seems like a lot considering the limited amount of internal memory.

bloat is an issue with all Verizon android phones (the bloat helps bring down the costs on the device).
one of the drawbacks to this device is the lack of internal memory. however, the bigger drawback is in the OS that prevents folks from moving apps to their SD Card.
but once I rooted, and installed a "clean ROM", I got a lot more space.
with your wife's phone, I suspect she has the latest OTA baseband (check the phone settings, if the baseband is prior to May 2013, then you are in luck - DO NOT ACCEPT the UPDATE). if the baseband reads May 2013, then your only option is to gain root access and freeze/delete the bloatware.
if space is an issue, I highly recommend to go this route. otherwise, start trimming some of the apps she never uses.
