Dead Pixel? Having a red líne in screen - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my Nexus 7 today and was working fine for a couple Of hours then I suddenly noticed a red line on the screen. Im attaching a Picture Of it. Any way to fix it without RMA?
Enviado desde mi iPad con Tapatalk HD

Download an app called dead pixel fixer (or something like that). It will flash through a lot of colors and if it's simply a line of stuck pixels they'll come out. Let it do its stuff for like fifteen minutes. If it doesn't work you need to rma.

Should I set brigthness to The highest level to perform the reparation?

Sorry but, looks like you have to send it in, seems like a very bad defect.
I have the screen lift issue, very little, but you can hear clicking. I'm not sure if I should send it back.
If Samsung or HTC made this, none of this would've happened. I'm not doing the screen fixes because that's stupid, the product should be in perfect shape on arrival. So, I think you should send it in.

But if Samsung or HTC made this device, we might see.. Touchwiz and Sense
In any case, I would do the stuck pixel fix as mentioned (although I doubt this would work). I would put in a RMA anyway.

Tried to fix it using this dead pixel fixer but it doesnt work. At the moment I am in Ecuador will have to RMA when I get in the states. Does anyone knows how RMA works when bought from the play store?

No, it's a Google device, they can't do that.
Although I would be OK with Sense 4.0.

I've heard that you just call then, and you can keep your old Nexus 7 while you get your new one.
Although I think it's like a 15 day refund policy.

Re: Dead Pixel? Having a read line in screen
Mine just started doing this too. I'll be calling Google tomorrow.

(Q) is it normal for these screens.

Never owned a IPS screen or so.
Is it normal to have yellow tint on the edges when having a black background ? When I have a white background its pure white ( saw someone with yellow tint on white background) .
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Nope. That is one of the problems that some users are facing. You should RMA your 7.
It would be pretty bogus if that was how ALL IPS screens were, lol.

True. After hours or researched. I came up with not much to go off by lol.
PC screens with IPS screens were saying that yellow tint were cause by a glue not being dry out evaporated yet and the more you use it they tend to just go away and get Better. I guess iPad 2 had similar problems. Most of them advice to use it more and they will go away so I might try that . I'd hate to be without this for a week to 2 weeks. But then again I got mine at Sams but their put and no way of knowing when they we will one.
Didn't happen doh until I got some heavy duty gaming last night. So might have gotten hot and was evaporating the left over glue? Lol correct me if I am wrong but that's what I gather so far..

I don't have it in mine and don't know much about it but my roommates IPS monitor NEVER had a yellow tint.
And Google will do an advanced RMA where they send you one and put a hold on your credit card until you send the other one back.

How would this work?

I know a lot of people are having screen tacking issues, but how would those be handled? Could I send it in to Asus to get it repaired, for a cost? Or would I have to send it to someone else
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
You have a 1 year warranty.
Anything goes wrong and they must fix it for free, assuming the fault is a result of a design error, or manufactoring defect.
Damage inflicted to the device by the user cannot be warrantied, and is up to the user to repair or replace.
In the case of screen lifting, your warranty will cover it.
As for the warranty procedure, im unsure sorry.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using Tapatalk 2
Okay. So will I be able to send it in to repair if it was user error?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
If I paid money. Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Im not sure if they're doing paid repairs at the moment, sorry.
If the screen broke you may be able to say it was as a result of the display lifting though.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using Tapatalk 2
Okay thanks. The only concern I have is that thy may be able to say that it is my fault because I messed with the screws trying to fix if
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I think unless its just absolutely obviously that you opened the device they will JUST CHECK THE SCREEN then send you a replacement. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE with this tablet..
if you got it from the play store its best to call google and get a rma for it . Do not ask questions do not give information other then screen is lifting up on left side.. NOw if you opened it and broke something else or striped out screw holes. well now then that would be on YOU..
Good Luck
Thanks. Thanks

Why would u fix the screen of a "bricked" n7? Unless it still fully functions?
Sent from my LazyPanda, Rooted, White "Destroy Mode" Evo
Excuse me, by bricked i meant it is completely unusable. The screen is broken. I can see everything when i wake it up, but no touch responsiveness at all, it is essentially a fancy looking brick. It can be fixed, just needs a new screen.

Haha ok I get what u mean. Here's the only Site that I know of that offers replacement screens, they are however in "used" condition and will run u about $130.

According to some n7 owner experiences sending into Asus to fix it could cost anywhere from 75-150 including parts replacement, and labor fees. It might be in ur best interest to just buy a new one
Sent from my Black "Destroy Mode" N7
It's a shame i know exactly what's wrong with it. I doubt I'd get away for less than 150 for an entire screen replacement. I could buy a whole new one, they're just so darn sweet. I've adopted a new way of life with this thing. My home built pc is getting jealous over this thing.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Oh and by the way, it says that product isn't available yet. Manufacturers haven't released the parts yet.

My bad on that, didn't see that they did not have replacement parts available yet. Probably with in a month or so

From what I've seen, others with similar problems have returned their Nexus 7 to the store they got it from and exchanged it for a working N7. I would recommend you do the same. If you got yours from the Play store, start an RMA. If you got it from a B&M store, exchange it.
Since you've only had your N7 a week, you shouldn't have any problems exchanging it.

It seems like it's an issue with the touchscreen itself. I have no idea how to verify or solve this issue, though. That's why I would personally exchange the N7 as defective. I would think that since your problem is clearly demonstrable, it would be easy to exchange or RMA.
But there may be a solution around that someone else has heard of. If anyone with greater knowledge of touchscreen issues wants to weigh in on this, please do.

I just started seeing this issue. At first it was only happening within apps. I thought it was issue with maybe stretching the app to a larger screen. But I started seeing it on the home screen.

There was a fix posted here somewhere for a package called surfaceflinger-fix.zip you flash in recovery. Made a huge difference on the touchscreen non responsive issue.

and when you turn off display and turn on again problem will fix
I have also experienced this. I I didn't try turning screen off then on but I rebooted then it was fine again.
I'm more inclined to think that this is a driver bug than a hardware fault

Microphone Echo for Other Party

I had a Nexus 6P for about a year and experienced this issue where if I was on the phone and had it on speaker, the other person could hear their Echo. I now have a OnePlus 3 and am longing for the Nexus again. The only thing holding me back is this issue. Does this issue still persist?

The only reason I wouldn't want to is because the OnePlus 3 is selling for more on eBay than the Nexus is, otherwise I'd be for it.

This exact problem happened to me ..... I reached out to Google support and they sent me a replacement phone that no longer has that issue that I was dealing with for so long .... I think if you bought a brand new phone from Google you wouldn't even have the issue anymore . Just my opinion.
I found this fix earlier. I don't have the issue but people say that this fixes it. Just change this line in the build.prop
It's a hardware problem. Exchange it.
