Chipped the plastic bezel. Any advice? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sadly, I know not to drop shiny new objects but unfortunately I dropped my nexus 7. Thankfully the screen is perfectly fine but I have chipped the silver bezel. Has anyone had any experience with any touch up products?
It may be the case that I could find a cheap nail varnish that would do the job but I do like the idea of trying something tailored for the job.
Any thoughts would be great.
Regards
Edit: I have chipped my dell xps which is a similar colour and also the handle to my fridge. I could buy in bulk as I probably will continue to use it.

Silver Sharpie might work. I used it to color the stylus button on my Galaxy Note S-Pen. Might have to retouch every month or so, but I think the color should be about right. http://www.amazon.com/Sanford-39108...81746&sr=8-4&keywords=sharpie+silver+metallic

Many thanks for the tip. Nice cheap fix.

Is it black underneath?
Just curious, since my bezel is black. I'd imagine if I was just painted plastic it will wear away.

I was thinking of using nail polish. Light silver would seem appopriate...?

It was black rubber (?) underneath. I'm surprised that the metallic finish Sharpie has worked so well but for the best part of the week no degradation. I'll be honest, I'll probably get an Asus cover from the play store when available in the UK as although the colour is spot on - I didn't prime or sand down prior to application so it still catches my eye.

And why is there 2 screen protectors one coloured round the edges and one just clear?

Crisis averted. Did the ole scotch tape trick to remove the dust particles. That should be in all screen protectors instructions as it works a treat.

Good luck

My general rules are (1) try to do it in a humid atmosphere, so there's less dust in the air, eg. a bathroom with a shower running, (2) to wash the back of the protector with water just before applying, and (3) try to fix errant dust motes with tape on the front to peel up a corner, and tape underneath to grab the dust, which it sounds like you've done. Personally I'm a big fan of the Brando ultra-clear protectors. Good luck!
I'm really loving the look of the phone with the colour change but the screen seems to have a kind of static look to it. Hopefully I'll get used to it as the phone looks great

I bought some SGP protectors for my S III. Well one of the kinds I bought was the ultra optics or whichever the the one that resists fingerprints is and it has almost like a texture on the screen which is kind of annoying to look at. I feel like it dulls the whole thing. I may take it off eventually and put the remaining ultra crystal I have from my i747
Really loving this screen protector.
The galaxy's s3 seems to me like it is very prone to scratches.
I always keep my phone in a pocket with nothing in it like keys or money yet I've got some pretty deep scratches on it.
I didnt get anywhere near as much with my s1, s2 or galaxy tab p1000.
Basically this screen is giving me protection and I'd even go as far as to say that it is making the scratches that I've acquired less noticeable.
Feels great too. I'm my opinion better that original screen and you have the added bonus of the anti fingerprint.
Defo recommend this

Plastic (white is way better ) but without screen protector I recommend black because it is rubber and wont scratch te screen

I don't have a screen protector so I'm using the black one.

Same here.
No screen protector (yet). I'm preferring the rubber (the black one). I like the slight grip effect it has.

I would if I were you.
I don't understand how a smooth rounded tip of plastic can scratch a smooth glass surface. I can easily understand the pen scarring or scratching a soft thin plastic screen protector though. IMO The only advantage of a screen protector is reduce glare and / or it is very cheap to replace if it gets scratched which is easier to scratch than glass.
What is the different on the tips. i didn't understand why there was so many tips with it

As someone nicely told me recently...the white ones are just hard plastic, while the black ones are rubbery.

It looks like there are two types, just multiple of these, incase they break or get dirty or something. I like the white ones for screen protector and the black ones when I don't have a screen protector on.

I think you haven't used a samsung note Before but this is the sad fact that the white tip (when wear happens in it) scratches the screen, but when new it won't

I have an Intuos 3 tablet and it comes with the same tips just a little larger and the different tips have a different feel when drawing. That is the main reson for the different tips. The tablet comes with a plastic sheet over the drawing surface that has some tooth on it to give the feel of paper and the nibs (pen tips) wear down with usage and wear the tooth off the covering sheet with use. On glass I doubt you will be able to wear the nibs (tips) down as they slide very easily across the glass.

[Q] Touch up paint for the silver edges of N7

Does anyone know of any touch up paint for the silver lining of the N7
I have a seriously minor scrape on it that is like half a cm, but every time I look at it it freaks me out haha...
I am one of those people that freaks out about scratches and what not on devices and anything else for that matter...
So if anyone has any suggestions that is much appreciated!
Best way would be an auto shop and match up the paint. It is a little expensive but will probably last longer... else use nail polish.

Xtreme guard screen protector

Hi
Has any one use this screen protector?
I was about to buy it buy i noticed it did not have a front sensor opening, it only has one for camera.
Problem is i bought one before that covered the sensor and once a call came in the screen would not turn back on when i finished the call.
So please if any one has some experience with this one please share with me your experience. Thanks
Here is a video review by ctscloud, thank him. link below.

If i remember correctly my last phone had one of those on it for a while, and it had that awful screen door effect. It wasn't really noticeable on color but when you had a white background it could really drive you nuts. I ended up peeling it off in the end because it got on my nerves so bad when looking at web pages.Spend the extra cash and get a quality one. (XOskins, Skinomi, BSE, etc)
What is a "screen door" effect?
I ordered an XtremeGuard but haven't received it yet.

But basically you can see like little squares in the phone screen like a screen door.
You see the fine line separating the pixels.

I bought a series of them, but they are the most disappointing screen protectors ever. I'm quite experienced in applying screen protectors and didn't have any trouble applying these protectors, but every single time the top left corner detached from the screen after ~2 weeks. Furthermore: the feel is extremely "plasticcy", and after removing the protectors I noticed that the screen gets a lot less responsive to touch when they're on.
My advice: stay away from the Xtreme guard protectors!
I just installed it last night. I don't like it. Finger don't slide smoothly, kind of sticking to the screen.
Fit is pretty good, and its matte finish. But I can't use it, feels no good.
i have no problems with mine. All of the cuts are perfect and it looks clean imo. I got the full coverage for 3 bucks during a special 70% off sale.
though they are cheap you don't get much but just the screens in the mail. (You get what you paid for)
what i did to install it was i had left over Zagg solution from a previous phone and applied it to the screen.
then i used a hair blow dryer while using a squeegee to remove all the water from under the screen.

I installed it last night. Just after installed, it got an incredible orange peel effect, however in the instructions it says to wait at least 8hs dry before turning the phone on. So I led it off all the night and this morning most of that effect disappeared. It still has some bubbles (not with air, I think is water, is what caused the orange peel effect before, just that now they are far from each other). So, I will wait until tomorrow to see if this disappear before writing a verdict. If these bubbles do not disappear, I'm afraid I'll have to remove it.
The responsiveness of the screen didn't change.
The plasticity fell I guess will also disappear when the remaining bubbles disappear.
I'll keep you posted.

I've used these xtremeguards on my previous phones because they were cheap but I was never satisfied with them...meh
Bought the body kit that gives sp for the front and back and after a week I decided to go back to skinomi.
Looks like everyone has had trouble with them. Ill wait for his verdict and make my decision... Any ways thanks every one.

I've had mine on my n4 for about a week now. You can't even tell that there's a screen protector on it just by looking. It basically looks perfect. However I will say that it definitely feels weird.

Just to keep you posted. After 24hs of having applied the protectors, the back one is almost perfect, with only 2 or 3 bubbles here and there, but they aren't too noticeable. The front protector have some more bubbles but definitely less than this morning.
The feeling is really plastic.
Overall, I think this will protect the screen, but it isn't good looking. I think I will keep it until I get the flip leather case that I ordered, then I will remove the front one (the one at the back doesn't bother me at all, so I'll keep that).
Will see, maybe for the time when I receive the case I already get used to it. :/

Their not really removable. Other than buying a new screen an digitizer, you're stuck with them.
If they are really really tiny surface scratches, I wonder if using that oleophobic stuff from amazon would fill them in. Seeing as the phone comes with an oleophobic coating, I wonder if that's all that got scratched. If someone has an old junk phone, I'd be curious to know if that windshield chip repair stuff would do anything.

That stuff for windshields is an epoxy, which would not look good on a phone screen. The olelophobic stuff from amazon would be worth a try.
