[q] wpa_cli file for nexus 7? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am going to great lengths to try to get the Nexus 7 WiFi working with ad-hoc (IBSS) internet connections and have posted some details here on my research:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787680
However, it seems one of the solutions for the Nexus 7 does not have a required file to fix it manually. It is the "wpa_cli" file. I want to copy it to the system/bin folder so I can test out one of the solutions...
Could someone please post the binary for the "wpa_cli" file?
Thanks in advance!

How to make nexus one to find Ad hoc

it looks nexus one can not find ad hoc. my computer shows it is there, but nothing appears on the nexus one.
some people said
There is a file in /system/etc/wifi called "tiwlan" - maybe we can edit it?
There is a line saying "ADHOC=0"
we can change it to ADHOC=1
Does anyone know how to edit it? I mean which software we should use to edit it?
thanks
I don't even find tiwlan.ini file on my Nexus One. Any help please?
you can use vi (a text editor for linux) to edit tiwlan.ini. but u need to mount system r/w first.
for nexus one, this is the way:

it works well on cyanogenmod rom but there is problems with stock rom.

Can anyone upload the original Tmo existing wpa_supplicant

Tried using the wpa_supplicant listed in another post but for some reason, it added the ability but lost the 3G connection with TMO US service. I have done this before with another device as it is an easy process but lost the original file that I had saved on my desktop since I put it in the wrong file folder that I deleted. Any help with someone copying the original and posting it up here for me would be helpful. Thanks.
WPA Supplicant
Here ya go...
I found a video on youtube about how to allow the samsung galaxy tab to connect to ad hoc wireless. The guy in the video said it was a file from dave db. I have found him but not the file. Is this the same wpa-supplicant file that would be used for my device?

[Q] Borked my Wifi

I wanted to enable wifi tethering with my Verizon Galaxy Tab to my Fascinate. Now I cannot get my Tab to see any networks.
I thought I'd made a clean copy of my original wpa_supplicant. BUT I cannot find it - seems to have gotten deleted.
If someone would post me a clean copy of the /system/bin/wpa_supplicant I would greatly appreciate.
Thanks
If the t-mobile one is the same I can share it just unsure if it is
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
I tried it - didn't really help

Hi,
So far none of the modifications i've tried worked, so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
1) Removed "bcm_supp.conf", so it got recreated - no effect.
2) Took a copy of "wpa_supplicant.conf" and renamed it "bcm_supp.conf" since they may have the same contents - no effect.
3) Modified "wifi.conf" with a different path and the file got recreated there - no effect.
[....
SUPP_CONFIG_TEMPLATE=/system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
SUPP_CONFIG_FILE=/data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf ==> SUPP_CONFIG_FILE=/data/misc/wifi/bcm_supp.conf
...
SUPP_CONF_FILEPATH=/data/misc/wifi/
...]
Rebooted the unit after each experiment and attempted to turn wifi on. It tries to scan and finds absolutely nothing (no AP) even though it used to.
Thanks
when i change my wpa_supplicant file to see adhoc networks i faced the same problem and i figured that it was because of the file security settings chmod it to 766 and it worked. you can try this.

I found a wpa_supplicant.conf in /etc/ and a bcm_supp.conf in /data/misc/wifi (not in (/data/wifi like I read in many forum posts). Which of these files do I need to remove or correct in my Samsung Moment 2.1?

for making it see adhoc networks?
No, for the "unable to scan for wireless networks" problem.

Thanks kromosto. It was permission related after all as file replacement with root explorer solved the issue.

Ad-hoc patch not working after OTA 4.010.13 upgrade

So I had the Ad-hoc patch working on my 3.1 4.010.11 using the Xoom's Wpa_supplicant file. I changed back to the stock wpa_supplicant file and then did a OTA upgrade to 4.010.13. rerooted and used es file explorer to copy back the xoom's wpa_supplicant and nothing in fact the wifi would not even turn on. Yes no wifi access at all. till i put back the stock wpa-supplicant. Any Ideas on a new patch?
Make sure the permissions on the supplicant file are correct. Just match the other files in the directory.
I had the same issue going from 3.0 to 3.1.
Thanks, that was it. Could not figure out what I was missing.
No problem. I spent about an hour trying to figure it out before I had the "Doh!" moment.

Thanks entropyiv for posting this.
So I'm a novice here... I had the ad-hoc patch running for quite a while and got the update that zrhodes posted about. I tried the same things and also couldn't get ad-hoc mode running. I tried changing the permissions in the wpa_supplicant file to match the other files in the system/bin folder, rebooted and it's still not working (A500 is rooted). Am I doing this correctly? Thanks in advance.
PS. The current permissions are rwxr-xr-x

It is possible the file got corrupted during transfer. Did you try downloading the supplicant file again? Other than the permissions, I can't think of what could be causing the issue.
Maybe this dhcp issue i have seen floating around?

Well this is curious. My GF and I both have HTC Touch Pro 2's and am using the wi-fi router application. It works using her phone, but not with mine. However, when I go to connect with the laptop to the phone, the "wifi router" shows up in the available network list. I try to connect using the tablet and it get's stuck in the obtaining IP loop. Well, didn't that frost me! So I had several version's of wi-fi router on my phone's sd card, tried installing another, and it works fine now. The wi-fi router application worked with my phone yesterday, before I updated to 4.010.13 GEN 2. Go figure...
One other thing to try is use Root Explorer to verify the owner and group of the file; long-press on wpa_supplicant file to bring up menu and select Change Owner. Make sure Owner is 0 - root and Group is 2000- shell. Copying the file into the folder using a file manager, or even simply extracting the file from a zip delivery, can change the file owner and/or group.
To avoid the permissions and groups issues w/ the wpa_supplicant file each update, I keep both the stock and ad-hoc files in the folder (/system/bin) and rename the files prior to installing any updates - the ad-hoc version gets renamed to wpa_supplicant.adhoc before updates and the stock version gets renamed to wpa_supplicant.stock after the update.

Retrieve saved wifi password without root

Dear all,
I am currently using a totally stock unrooted Note 4 (the G variant). I need to retrieve a wifi password for my school wifi network, which I cannot recall. I tried using adb to retrieve wpa_supplicant.conf from my phone (adb pull /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf c:/wpa_supplicant.conf), but apparently the file does not exist (the exact error message I got was "the remote object '/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf' does not exist").
Can anyone with a rooted phone advise me if the above address is the correct location for the wpa_supplicant.conf on our Note 4? If not, where is the exact location for this file? Is it because the phone is not rooted that prevents me from retrieving the file using adb?
Any other solution would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Without root you can try in Facebook of Samsung.
Is the better solution for you.

Without root we can still use adb, which I believe is sufficient for the purpose of retrieving files from root folders (I may be wrong, that is why I ask the question in my OP), one of which contains all saved wifi passwords. Regardless, I find it extremely hard to believe that Samsung will ever entertain such a request if you approach them.
Since I have you here, and assuming that you are using a rooted Note 4, could you let me know where you can find the file wpa_supplicant.conf on your Note 4? You can use ES File Explorer to navigate to those root folders.
Thank you.

I'm not a expert on non rooted phones, but I think to use adb, you need at least a permissive selinux kernel and a non secure kernel.
Without that 2 conditions your better solution is the Facebook of Samsung.
....and yes. Your path for wpa_suppIicant.conf is correct and that file contains wifi passwords.
