I was testing a bluetooth headphone and noticed the volume quite low even on the highest setting the headphone could give.
Is there a way to increase the volume the phone provides over a bluetooth connection with those secret codes?
I was trying this method but the code doesn't work at all:
Samsung Focus Audio Level ChangesIncrease Speaker Volume
1- Go to the dialer of your phone and access diagnostic mode by dialing ##634# or start the Diagnosis app by clicking it from your app menu.
2- Input *#0002*28345# to get to the Audio menu.
3- See the last option named “Device Gain (max/min)”... Hit the “Get” option next to it.
4- Now from among the 3 fields: in the second one enter 1600 and in the third field enter 0.
6- Hit “Set”.
7- Tap “Start” button at the bottom of the app.
8- Exit Diagnosis by clicking the windows home button then restart your phone.
Increase Headphone Volume
1- First and foremost make sure that your headphones are attached to your phone, as the fix won’t work otherwise.
2- Go to the dialer of your phone and access diagnostic mode by dialing ##634# or start the Diagnosis app by clicking it from your app menu.
3- Input *#0002*28345# in the diagnosis screen.
4- Navigate to “Device Gain (max/min)” and hit the "Get" button next to it.
5- In the 3 fields, enter these values respectively 5, 1100 and –1100 (some people use 1500 in second field but I think it is too high)
6- Hit "Set".
7- on the next line below change the AUDIENCE.CFG to "on".
8- Tap on the "Start" button at the bottom of the app.
9- Exit Diagnosis by clicking the windows home button then restart your phone.

i have tried everything and i ended up using audioboost from play store , its a little rough around the edges but it gives it a good boost
In the Stock Music Player:Settings > Equalizer > Custom > Move the Levers all the way up,all of them.
or use voodoo louder, Its a paid app (99p) and works well (Needs kernel support, So check before buying)
Do they add distortion? Increasing the boost in the equalizer won't affect the quality ?

Does voodoo really work when using bluetooth headphones? I think it only works or if the headphones are plugged into the 3.5 mm jack. But maybe I'm wrong because I don't use bluetooth headphones.

oh i have no idea i dont use them either I know it works with the phone speaker and wired headphones tho !
Im using Voodoo Louder now, seemed to increase the volume of my phone when I'm plugged to the wired headset.
According to google play voodoo only supports the 3.5 mm jack, no bluetooth and also not the speaker.

Ok so i bought the N7000 and i am genuinely dissapointed by the volume level in headphones. Coming from iphone 3g everything is top notch except for the volume level. I am on stock Samsung ICS 4.0.3 and even the videos are not loud enough. iphone 3g which is like 3 yrs old had an awesome loudness level and quality. Anyway to increase this?
Honestly are you people deaf? At least you must be hearing impaired. When I turn up the volume to the maximum it hurts my ears. It's by no means convenient anymore. I don't want to insult anybody but I am really wondering how someone can claim the sound through the headphones is not loud enough. Maybe your source is not loud enough because like I said, I cannot listen to my mp3 files at the highest level, it hurts. So here are my propositions: Either check your source (sound files) or buy voodoo louder.

Have to agree with altae there, although I use in ears which are notably louder than cans or over ears. If it really bothers you try paranoid which has quite major amp settings so you can max way beyond stock.

I need a fix that works with stock ics. Dont want to root. And yes the NOTE is not loud enough. Like it or not. Htc has higher loudness too.
Poweramp offers slight volume boost... Just checking, have you tried adjusting the music volume in settings?

Nothing strange there.
Though the speaker is not loud enough.. I don't understand the complains 'bout the headphones.
I can agree on that, the speaker isn't that good. But I bought it as a phone and not a ghetto blaster so I don't really care.

the iPhone kicks the Nexus's ass on volume and quality of sounds output (wife has iPhone). Is there anyway to boost the volume of the sounds on the Nexus at all? - I'm a bit deaf and I find the phone volume a bit quiet for me (let along the music player)
Is there any form of "pre-amp" capability hidden in the system somewhere?
There was an APP i used on my g1, i dont think it works on the nexus yet. It was called louder volume hack

You can also try a different set of headphones. (the in-ear type, or a powered set with volume control)
Volume is very loud with my Koss Sparkplug in-ear set. (and does not hurt like the default headset)
I could be wrong but I think the complaint is largely with the speaker on the back of the phone, and therefore ringtones and such not being loud enough. If you want to go with the use different headphones route I suppose you could hook the 3.5mm up to an amp and speakers but that seems a little ridiculous to me.
Hi, Just got my HTC HD2 after a break from HTC handsets.
I've noticed when listening to music, even when turned up max, the music is quite quiet.
I've tried the audio booster but that seems to just do bass, vocal etc. not the overall volume.
On my old Omnia I had the same issue, but you could run SoundTester.exe and manually increase the db's.
But I don't seem to have that on the HD2.
Any ideas how to make the music louder? I mean walking past traffic & the music is easily drowned out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah my sennies get hilariously loud on full whack, suggest noise isolating as opposed to simple in ear. Once I got the correct sized ear adapter on em, even the tube cant intrude on my tunes

I'm using a set of Sony MDR-XD200 headphones at the moment, as I wasn't a fan of the standard HTC ones. They've been ok with other handsets & MP3 players (Except the omnia which had this problem too).

lol, no it was definetly quiet, alot more than it should be.
Do you remember on some of the old custom roms (I had one on my p3600) the audio broke and was really quiet, that is what this seems like.

You know on normal windows mobile you can click on the speaker at the top and adjust ringing volume & device volume, I can't do that on the HD2, I can use the volume keys on the side, but that just does 1 generic volume, I was wondering if the device volume was set low, but I can't check it.

Settings tab, sound and display, the 2 volumes are there and a switch to link them or not.

is that a flash site? doesnt load on hd2. is it dnb or nuskool breaks? my pc is dead so i cant check it

The only problem I have with my HTC HD2 as a music player is probably going to sound pretty minor. I have a set of Sennheisser in ear buds that I love and used to use on an iPod Touch. At it's loudest, the volume is a bit much for me usually, but the bar just below it I find isn't loud enough. Picky, I know, but it just seems like a big leap between volume levels. Is there any way of helping this?

Yep I have some too, dug them out last night to give them ago, no better really.
So I've tried Sennheiser Eco Ear Canal, Sony MDR-XD200 & the standard HTC ones packaged with the HD2.
All are too quiet, it's not my hearing, tried them all on the Omnia & they are deafening, also with the HD2 I can hear other stuff going on around me, cars, walking on gravel etc. Very strange others are not having this issue.

I have akg 321 in-ear buds, before that akg 315 normal style, I haven't experienced any volume problems with music.

I had this issue. If you go to the volume screen that appears when you press the side volume buttons you can adjust the system volume by touching the bars to get gradual and precise volume increase/decrease. Using the toggle buttons makes it jump too much, stupid design imo.
Also the music player should have it's OWN volume control, instead it adjusts the entire system volume, again a ridiculous design flaw IMO also the volume graphic in the music player dissapears sometimes in rom 1.44, can't comment on other roms. I've had 2 HD2's and both have done the same thing.
Getting back to Junglist: I think you have a hardware issue mate, the full volume on this unit is very loud and even louder when used with audio booster. No one else has this problem. I use the sennheiser (spelling!) cx300's awesome headphones, and cheap
Talking of Audio booster again, in conjunction with the music player it is excellent, it handles the frequencies very well compared to say coreplayers eq that end up distorting the headphones with even minor bass frequency boosting. Using coreplayers pre amp is pointless also, complete distortion and hard to control, not very finger friendly.
It's such a shame about the Audio Booster switching itself off when jumping tracks even when it is left running in the background, it's only use therefore, is listening to long mixes. Too much of a pain to keep switching it back on after individual tracks You also have to switch it back on if you pause music and navigate away for a bit.
I hope HTC are aware of this and fix it in the next firmware update

Thanks mate but i know about them. The tweaks don't work
even when audiobooster is still in the background (and dutty's task manager says so) it still doesn't work. Sometimes it does though, it's a bit random.
It certainly doesn't work if you pause the music and come back to it
Tried Nitrogen? I downloaded the other day but its still sat on my sd card

Hey, I agree with what you've said above. I have the same issue. Please note that I have no direct solution for you, but the work around is this:
Use a different set of headphones. I have three sets I use.
1) pair of ear buds that came with the legend - these are fine when I turn the volume down low
2) Phillips SHS3201 - these are basic ""over the ear" hook style ear buds. volume is fine if I turn it down between first second "notches".
3) Monster Audio Turbine ear buds - foam sealing passive noise canceling. These are too loud even at the lowest setting. I think they have powerful drivers that simply boost the sound and foam fittings that drive the sound into my ear canal. Though they sound great, I can't really use them because they are too loud on the phone.
Are you using a high quality or "foam sealing" headphone?
That being said, I'm interested if anyone else knows how to adjust this!

There is another way to fix it but i don't like it.. You can change de volume of your mp3's by using mp3 gain (freeware). The volume is better but if you want to connect the legend to a loudspeaker, you realise that the sound has unfortunately a very limited volume...
I am interested in this as well. I have tried the Music Player with EQ platinum (by changing left and right channel to output lower volume) but it kills the CPU. If you view photos while listening to music, you might not hear any music anymore.
Same here. It gets very annoying when the phone rings while I'm listening to things on my earphone - it hurts my ear everytime. (I have ringer set to max volume, which seems to make the ring tone play at max volume through earphone as well. I can barely stand min volume as it is.)
I've already rooted my phone - I guess changing the audiopara files should do the trick. Can anyone tell me how to understand those files?

I am using j-jays intra earphones and the Legend really disappoint me about the sound quality (volume setting).
So I tried to set EQ as down as possible... what there is no EQ on Android's music player? f****!
Finally I have found and used Astro Player beta on the market, wich is not very good-looking but has a complet EQ.
And an other problem about Legend sound quality appears: the sound in noisy at low volume!!!
Ok let's hope a flash will correct the problem. For the moment I am using my Sansa clip+ to hear the music in my bed and my legend with RockPlayer to watch movies in my bed
Volume issue Android
I've been having an issue with the volume being too loud when streaming music via pandora or last.fm
To check to make sure we are all having the same problem, follow these steps and report back.
1. Play media (music) w/ headphones
2. Turn off silent mode
3. Go to Settings/Volume
4. Edit the volume of the ringer (it will play a test sound)
5. Accept changes...
Now, did the volume go down on the media so it's nice and quite? If so, how long does it last? I know this works for me for the rest of my current song, but as soon as another one starts it's back up to crazy loud volume (even when the media volume is set to smallest amount).
I have also downloaded a 3rd party volume control app, but the same thing happens. Please give this a shot and let us know what happened!
I dont know what I am doing wrong but I find the sound level extremely poor for calls
I tried with a bluetooth headset, the outside speaker and the jack with my mp3 headset
it's pretty weird since when I play videos or music I am impressed by how loud I can push the Tab...
I am on AT&T with JMC (but was the same on JM6). And I set the sound at max
anybody has the same issue? Am I doing something wrong? Or is there any sound booster app for calls? (and is it necessary?)

My Tab isn't phone-enabled, but since you're new to Android, I thought I should point out that there are multiple volume settings, and in-call volume is one of them. Menu Key -> Settings -> Sound Settings -> Volume should give you all the sliders (Ringtone, Media, Alarm, System, Notification...). There are apps/widgets too that let you get to/change these settings without having to go into the settings menu every time (audio manager has been a decent widget for me). Until you're actually in the call the hardware rocker is usually doing the ringtone or media volume.
When I use mine with Skype 60% is usually blaringly loud for me, and I don't even have the system or media volume maxed out.
Sorry if it's something you know you've done, but thought it might help. If not, maybe someone else has had the same issue and solved it.

yes this I had figured out and set at the maximum
Everything non call related is really strong... It's conversation from normal calls that is ridiculously low

Voice-enabled on AT&T with JM6. Have good results with the built-in speakers and cheap Nokia BH-214 stereo Bluetooth earbuds. I ordered the OEM earbuds, but I do understand that the 3.5mm jack port in finicky. Is your Bluetooth 2.1 or newer? Do you have many open applications when trying to place or receive calls? I've notice the sound stutter a bit on the speakers when I've got several apps open.
Here's something I noticed, when in call using my BT Headset, the volume slider sometimes says its on max but the output isnt. Try to lower or increase your volume. Once you hear the max level beep, it gets louder.
Im on a SingTel Tab by the way.

Edit: yeah I can definitely reduce the volume but my max was my actual max. As anybody tried to compare the volume on the speaker when playing music whith the volume on the speaker when on a call... It's like 5 to 10 times higher volume on a call !! And then same issue on a headset

As mentioned I tried it with everything I could... The default external speaker, a simple stereo headset (Not bluetooth), a bluetooth headset. They all give the same. Low volume
If you don't like volume in speaker, headset, bluetooth....You can change settings in "hidden" Audio menu. There you can change volume of individual ouput, but be careful!!!!!
Before change anything, make sure you can put it back the same number if you are not satisfied or have problem ..so wright it somewhere anything you wish to change.
Good Luck with experiment. If I remember correctly(from my old Samsung i780-Windows phone) "TX" settings is for output and "RX" for imput, but I can be wrong, so be careful.

what I do is, when in a call, I lower the volume by about 2, then increase it until i hear the max volume beep. The moment i hear it, the volume on my headset usually jumps up.
I have the same problem with the speaker volume. At maximum you cannot hear it. The bluetooth seems to work OK. IIRC JK5 software seemed to work correctly.

So I guess for you too, music or movies play with a high volume on the speakers whereas for calls it's rather low volume ?
Yes bluetooth or headset I can hear but still quite low volume compared with music...

My problem is specifically for calls. Anything else is fine and working well. That's the weird issue... I dont want to boost the volume for anything else!
That's pretty weird... I have been playing with the tab and I found out that for calls, the highest level I can have (by hear) is two notches below the highest. That's by far the loudest I get (If I push higher the sound decreases)
Am I the only one ? It really pisses me off.... I don't know how it can be like that (I am on JMC ROM after flashing a JM6 ROM over the JK5 from Russia (I am on an AT&T Tab flashed to get phone working)
Someone else get the same experience ?
I can confirm that the max 'in call' volume is two notch below the max !!! And I have the same tab/setting of the OP.
Aren't there some codes you can enter to adjust the volume level on calls and music, etc.?? like the Galaxy S?

FYI it is fixed with the firmware JME
Sound level is much more acceptable and the highest level is not anymore two notched below the max
Although the sound level and qualitybis streets ahead of any HTC devicenive tried I still find the volume a little low in some apps.
The desire HTC can be improved with an app called dsp manager and it makes a difference. Anyone know of anything that will increase the volume output level of the nexus s?
It's a while since I had hold of a galaxy s but I seem to recall it being louder than the nexus s.
You will have to wait for cyanogen to bring that audio app over to the nexus s. I'm sure it will happen soon.
There was an awesome app for galaxy s called audiobooster.. dunno if it can be ported tho
I was just going to post the same question. On my old Samsung I8910 I was able to tweak the volume by going into service menu by pressing *#0002*28346# and you could carefully change the audio settings for speaker, headphones, bluetooth etc. Is there such a thing in Android operating systems that you can go onto service menu of the phone and change the limits? The existing volume is really low for my ears, sitting in the crowded restaurant I can't hear the other caller.
I also tried Samsung utilities application test by pressing *#0*# not working on this phone. Anybody can help? I don't want to wait for any apk. or root. Phone has really low volume, period. Samsung please fix it.
Carlito are you referring to the in built loud speaker it the earpiece volime not being loud enough? I was referring to the speaker but I haven't tried making a call yet so can't comment on the volume of the earpiece.
As above I guess we just have to wait for a fix from the devs.
