Tango update? - Quantum General

Does anyone received Tango update for LG Quantum? If you received it, what model/network that you use?
Also, is there any chance that LG Quantum will receive WP7.8 update?

I think the 7.8 update is going to be pushed from Microsoft so we should get it. AT&T makes it hard to stay with them with no updates.

Is there anyone working on TANGO, is it even possible?
Hey guys, I have had moved to Android and now going to buy my first ever Windows Phone 7...it's going to be L.G Quantum c900 since it's the cheapest...only $70! At&T network unlocked. It's going to be a secondary phone, I already have my hands full with Galaxy Note (& series)
I have been looking really hard all over the net and I have come to two conclusions.
1. The phone is Unlock-able using the LG Reg Editor
2. There are no custom ROM's for it perhaps no one worked on it.
Now that Tango is out, I would like to once again ask for kind developers attention that AT&T has not provided the update and it does not looks they'll give it any time soon.
Is there some way to port E900 (LG) Rom to C900, or any other methid to get TANGO update on c900?

Here is the guide how to share data via WiFi or USB, and it allows you to update your phone to Tango as the side effect if you choose to flash it to Telstra ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508150

Well, yes... Telstra ROM has to be cross flashed. Since my device is already unlocked, no mms trouble( besides who uses mms now?!)...
So should I first unlock(Jail break) it or should I first cross flash it? I think it gets locked(jailed) once you install a legit ROM?
Well, got a lot of reading do to. Off I go

Well I flashed Telstra ROM, unlocked (interop) the phone. But I still can't update to Tango. Can anyone who alraedy has Tango pack that ROM and post it here?

You should only need to modify the registry key at Local Machine \System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo. Change its value from ATT-US to be 000-88 (unlocked/non-carrier-specific) or ROG-CA (if you want to lock yourself to Rogers Canada).

mmm, those the CAB of tango works on our Quantum?
I mean, those cabs are intended fo phones without qwerty, so If I try to update with them (the one posted on this forum, no brand) I will probably make a mess?

I'm not sure, bit I think it'll work. SInce Tango is not phone specific, it's generic, so if a phone has a keyboard it'll detect. Now obviously this is a hunch. I'm not sure.

I have removed the targeting info completely. No to any network. Still no update.

Rogers Magic update, should I install it?

Hello everyone,
I am writing to find out if anyone out there can tell me if I should install the official updates for my Rogers branded Magic and if so should i install them in order? You see I have an unlocked Rogers branded Magic that I used for a while before getting my Tilt 2 however I am looking at using the Magic again now that I've learned about PDAnet for tethering. Anyways, since I hadn't looked into Android since getting the Tilt 2 I thought I'd see if there had been any updates and I found on HTC's downloads a couple of updates for the Rogers Magic and rather like the idea of Sense and multitouch but want to know if these updates will relock my phone forcing me to learn how to unlock it again? (I originally bought it unlocked and have to have it unlocked because I am on AT&T). I've also considered rooting and flashing a newer ROM however without the Wiki being up I'm kind of scared that I don't understand enough about it to do it correctly. Anyways, if any of you could please let me know if the updates would break my ability to use my phone on AT&T could you please let me know about this and any other drawbacks to applying the upgrades? Thanks and I hope that you all have a nice night.
I unfortunately can't answer your question about the updates, however, if you do decide to root your phone I put together a guide that's based on how I did it and the resources I used, just all pulled into one post. Check it out if you'd like: here.

Bell/Virgin Froyo Update

Any word yet if/when Bell/Virgin will be rolling out 2.2 to Canadian users?
If I don't get it relatively soon I'll probably root. Is that more difficult to do with the Bell build?
Any suggestions from rooted Bell users?
No word yet. Canadian carriers suck at issuing updates in a timely fashion. I rooted my Legend over the summer and installed the Vodafone 2.2 build recently with no problems. For the root, you'll need to downgrade to the 1.31 RUU before you can successfully root.
Hi,
I wrote to Virgin Mobile support on November 30 and I got the following answer:
Hi there - HTC is currently working on this update and we're hoping to have it within the next couple months. We'll keep you guys up-to-date online. Stay tuned!
Lots of Love,
Virgin Mobile

Bell never answer questions I email them, HTC Legend related or not.
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
I made a thread about this over at howardforums. somebody responded saying Virgin is working on it and they expect it to be out in January, and if there are any delays, early February.
I got tired of waiting for Virgin to come out with Froyo, so I rooted and flashed Cyanogen on my Legend and couldn't be happier. There is a bug with voicemail notifications, but I'm sure that will be fixed soon.
When (and IF) Virgin has an update, I'll do it on my wifes phone, but the added features that Cyanogen gives is well worth it.

That's pretty brutal. I love my Legend, but I really regret buying it from Bell. I've had nothing but bad experiences with them.
Which rooting guide has the most success with the Legend?
I'm fairly new to this, so I'll have to do my homework before attempting a root.
Maybe a good December project.
i work for virgin mobile and own the legend myself.
I ask my DM, and manger almost weekly about the update only to hear that they have no idea.
I call technical support (store line/regular line) and no one there knows either.
I also check our daily updates.. daily. Only to find nothing about the legend day after day.
I've been holding my breath for the update, but i don't suggest you do the same.
Unbrand your phone by installing the WWE version and you will probably get the update faster than Bell or Telus.
Hopefully it's coming Monday.
--io
The update is likely only days away so i suppose it's a funny time to ask about debranding.
My main issue is that I don't know what rom to use from the shipped roms website... a little bit of a text explanation would be great.
I still don't know what RUU means... or what WWE is... and i've been actively doing some reading on the subject.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!
go to the wiki!!!! everything is there!!!!
Haha, that post was actually quite useful
RUU = Rom update utility
WWE = World Wide English
So all I have to do is pick the most recent WWE version and I'm good to go?
I got annoyed with the flip-flopping and waited until after the halfway mark in the month. I've rooted my phone and it works perfectly.
I found that Blayo's ROM to run extremely well on the Legend.
Sorry for bumping it again ( I've been monitoring this thread and everytime i see it bumped up, it gives me hope... but only to find out we are all asking the same thing ... WHEN?!!)
Since BELL discontinued the Legend, does this mean when (if?) Virgin releases the OTA update, BELL users like me will get the same VIRGIN update as well show up on our phone?
The post about updating it with the WWE version... if i understand it correctly, the steps are:
1. Create a gold card... i saw a thread about a manual (albeit complicated for the non-techno geek.. ) way and an automated way using a software someone wrote
2. Run the latest WWE that has been posted (this is supposed to debrand our phone so that we can "see" the SOftware Update for WWE, right)
3. Check the Software Update on the phone and i should see the Fryoyo Update. ( I assume if we apply update, the ROM Update (data) it will download on the phone will be billable...or count as your data usage)
Does this sound about right?
I'm keeping this update via WWE as my last option if the OTA does not see the light of day...for us BELL users..
At this point, i'd say it's 70/30 that bell does not get the update. Just because as you've said, it's a discontinued phone for bell. with a small install base.
Hopefully Virgin/Bell decide to push it to bell sets. I'm not sure if they'd have to prepare two versions for that though. From what i understand, we're only a few days away from finding out.
It's funny, Bell Discontinued the Legend because they couldn't keep them in stock due to HTC having a lack of stock because the Amoled screen wasn't being produced fast enough. hence why they switch to a different screen for the Legend. Most people think it was just old or selling poorly when in fact those are both false.

There was noise about an update in Mid-Jan from Virgin, Bell as far as I remember has discontinued support and it's unlikely that there's going to be an update. You won't get the OTA update unless Bell releases it. I'm rather dissapointed with the promises that keep being broken for our rather expensive service... Root your 'phone.
The procedure is :
Create a Goldcard. As you mentioned there's very easy to follow guides out there.
Downgrade your phone to an earlier version of the software. This permits rooting your phone.
Root your phone. This will allow you to install a ROM other than the Carrier's ROM.
Install either a stock ROM (WWE) or a custom ROM.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I am using Blayo's ROM, which is almost identical to the stock FroYo ROM, but with a few tweaks that just make the phone feel nicer. I would reccomend looking into some of the other ROMs as well. You may find something you like. Android's about choice and this is one great advantage of rooting your 'phone.

I'm gonna give it up to the end of Jan and if there are no updates, i'll definitely go this way... im out of space to install anything else... angry birds and talking tom are taking so much space... had to remove my talking tom to install some smaller apps.
On Facebook, the guy from Virgin told that they had problems with the update so they are doing more testing...
If you want to be up to date, I really suggest you to root your phone and try a rom. You won't lose any functions on your phone and you'll never have to wait again.

Hello there, i'm new to this flashing ROM, rooting and stuff...
In your post, it sounds easy, create a golden-SD (follow the guides), downgrade and update the WWE...
i got lost on the second step... how do you downgrade the phone? I have a VM legend 2.1 w/ update 1 and seems like VM is not giving out the update. I'm thinking going your way but don't know how to downgrade the phone.
Please advise.
Thanks in advance.

Removing branded start-up logo? (Samsung Omnia 7)

Hi all, new here
I'm in Australia with the Samsung Omnia 7.
I bought phone online from someone who won it in an Optus competition (Optus being the carrier here).
The phone is unlocked to any network but for about 3-5 seconds upon the phones startup, there is a branded Optus logo that is displayed.
I want it GONE.
What's the best way to do this? I'm running the original firmware, not the new leaked one. I'm also not game to flash to the leaked newer firmware as Samsung hasn't released it officially and I've heard some Aussies have had some issues after doing it.
What's the safest way I can remove this start-up logo branding? Thanks!
change to a different firmware, vol up+camera+power button > download mode> samfirmwares.com firmware(unbranded)! Thats currently the only possibility.
What about by editing a registry entry or something?
I'm not prepared to "upgrade" to that firmware until Samsung releases it (if they do).
They probably haven't for a reason.
try chevron unlocker, install registry explorer search and share!
Is chevron unlocker going to change something about my device I can't reverse? I want full control of any testing I do.
sorry for late reply, the firmware file consists of lot parts (Phone, csc, eboot, pda), modifying a specific file in the archive may remove the startup logo.Just search wiki for answers about the significance of each part.Or better still, wait for the update release by MS see if it changes anything! Chevron won't help!
Most users have upgraded to the firmware available at samfirmware.com I too running omnia 7 t-mobile uk version unbranded by downloading I8700XENJK1. Have had no issues so far!
Any updates on this with new unlocking methods etc..?
I'd really like that start up pic gone if I can!

No, like has already been said, the only way to get rid of this is to re-flash the device. You should be able to only flash parts of it though which would leave the OS (and all apps, settings etc) intact. I'm guessing it's the bootloader image that includes the logo you're seeing, so would start there.

Do you have anyway to do this? There's no tool I've heard of which can replace specific parts of the ROM?
It's a full reflash or nothing, I think.

For now it is. Even with WinMo 6.5 we had to flash the 2nd start up screen. Then we had full access to the core of OS. Right now we dont. So only way to get rid of it is to flash a brand free rom issue by samsung and not a carrier
Any updates on this now?
Anyone know a registry key that is associated with the start up logo?

There IS NO registry key for this. The boot logo is displayed long before the OS has even started booting.
I've also installed the firmware from samfirmware.com and I've had no issues at all. I've managed to update to Pre-NODO and NODO without any pain (apart from having to use the Hungarian Hack to get NODO early).
I've seen no downsides from my perspective.
The only risk I can see is that no carriers will have tested WP7 against this firmware until it's officially released by Samsung.
if you have a 4.10.1.9 bootloader, there's no possibility to change your rom....forget it.
right now, this bootloader fail to upgrade... no download mode ability at omnia 7

Hello everyone, Im new to the site. I too purchased, what I thought to be unbranded, a mobile over the internet that was branded with T-Mobile Germany. Im in Australia. I can use my Optus SIM Card. But what was worrying me is what affects a branded phone (especially from another country) would have on me and my usage, especially with the new Mango update.
Now unless someone can tell me that it really doesnt make any difference to how the phone will work, I want it unbranded for safety sake. That being said, my quote above, This firmware, obviously it sounds custom and not official. If I install this firmware, any Windows Update up until this point (Not Mango), will it still install via zune? and will it take on the Mango update when thats out?
Thanks guys

I believe samfirmware just releases leaked firmware. They are therefore all "official" in a sense and the unbranded ones should just be firmware for the unbranded devices.
If you're using a branded phone, the official updates will roll out when the original carrier certifies it. Apart from that and the boot branding, there shouldn't be many differences.

So?

MS rolling out 7.10.8107.79 update

hello all,
Yesterday Microsoft released the 7.10.8107.79 update for windows phone.
This is believed to fix the SMS bug and disappearing keyboard fix.
Currently only the Vodafone Italy customers are receiving it.
But you can get the update using manual cab sender method.
check the following post for details.

Meanwhile, if anyone on telstra or other ROM gets a official update , please let me know
Well I'll be waiting to get it from Sasktel here in Canada but I think I'd take the firmware update to get wireless tethering to be honest.
Just curious. Has anyone with a quantum experienced the disappearing keyboard?? I have never experienced it. Ever.
I'm on 7740 right now.
No, you just need use the registry editor on MFG menu and change the identification of your Quantum, In my case I have an AT&T carrier Quantum and I change their identification as Vodafone and Zune launch the update proces to 8107....easy.
The values to change to Vodafone are here:

Yes I had the keyboard disappear countless times on 7720 and 7740. Very frustrating. It wasn't only the on screen keybaord either, sometime while typing with the hardware keyboard, the text box would lose focus on its own. havent seen the issue since going to 8107.

in my experience, there are built in safe guards in the update process that will prevent you from flashing the firmware of a different carrier/model of phone.

Keep checking Footballs rom thread, I'm sure if there is an official rom, that they will have it. He normally post the roms a few weeks before Verizon allows updating to Zune.
If you expect Verzion to release it's Trophy Tango update the same day as everyone else, don't. I honestly think HTC is the hold up, since they treat the CDMA Trophy on Verizon differently, but we probably won't see the official update for a few months.
As for updating your custom rom, don't. If the updates to apply, you'll almost guaranteed to loose tethering in the process (since tethering isn't supported in the official WIRELESS drivers that would be included in an update). Wait for new custom rom's instead.
Felt I had to amend my previous post in this thread. The Tango update actually includes tethering officially now. Football hasn't had any luck finding an official Tango rom yet though. And we did get Tango the same day as everyone else... so Verizon must really be throwing some serious support behind Windows Phone now.. I bet we'll see a Nokia WP7 or even WP8 on Verizon sometime soon!

I certainly hope for 8 in the next few months! But in the meantime, I'm sure a XevRev rom based off the official vzw tango rom would suffice
Well, the problem is that there isn't an official Verizon tango rom yet.
This isn't a huge problem, as I have updated my official based Mango 8107 test rom to 8773 with no hitches. After updating the sys, its a simple matter of updating the driver cabs in the rom, producing a rom that is basically going to be identical to the official Verizon Tango image you get via Zune update, but with full unlock and some of the added nokia fun from Dynamics7.
XevRev is close to being finished. I'm hoping to take the time after work tomorrow to cook up the final version and send it to a few people to test (although it shouldn't need much testing since I have my own person test phone).
XevRev will be based on Dynamics7 1.21 (for Titan) from ultrashot.
That's not even the exciting part!
Thanks to ultrashot's input, we managed to get the entire programming menu and programming function up and running with full unlock! I wish I would have had more time this week to build the finished release... you know what, I'll get the thing cooked, test it myself.. and then just release it for public testing.
Downside: We'll be stuck with the Mango v3 8017 radio until I either a) I build a custom cab that can be pushed to the phone b) manage to extract the radio and adapt it to be flashed using the rom method in my rom thread (unlikely).
XevRev will basically be the following:
Verizon OEM base (not Spark Euro like other SparkW roms that are out now)
Dynamics7 1.21 with custom nokia stuff removed (broke too much stuff) except for Nokia blue-tooth contacts transfer.
Newest xap installer from ultrashot (this is what really makes programming and stuff work!)
Yuki cert
Add Bazaar for WP7 and Reinstaller out-of-box from official market place (cause if people haven't used Reinstaller... they will now that they know it exist!)
If I got time, I'm guna replace Slacker radio with Last.FM cause Slacker sucks.... why would I do that? CAUSE I CAN DURR~
Netflix is byebye.
I'll prob release four versions of this rom:
1) Verizon OEM - English only
2) Verizon OEM - International
3) Verizon OEM removed - English only
4) Verizon OEM removed - International
I don't see a point in making a version with the Euro oem package... I always ended up removing those apps anyway.
I have found no way to install the official updates from Verzion onto this rom (OS works okay, but driver package fails). I'm guessing this is because, when SPL fails to update cause HSPL v3 stops it, the entire processes is aborted.
I'll try to get a test version of English only build out. If that goes well, I'll release the other flavors quickly after. The international version will include all the language support found in Dynamics7 1.21.
