What happens to the $25 play credit when you return the n7? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I haven't used any of it yet. Do they just remove the credit from my play account? I want to purchase a book from another device but don't want to risk my chance of a refund for the n7 by purchasing something with the credit.
Thanks!

I'm curious as well since I will be taking mine back due to light bleeding and some pixels hanging in almost black conditions. I also had two stuck pixels but I was able to massage them back into shape....still all scary enough to wanna return and wait for the problems to be resolved since the failure rate is high for sure.
Really is too bad since I love the new OS design and feel although still not iOS smooth scrolling / dead on touch interaction feel. I absolutely love the new chrome selection zoom tool and recent tabs from my other devices.

I'd assume you keep the original credit but that you don't get a second credit from the new device on that account.
I think people who had 2 N7s only got 1 credit unless they used the other one on another account.

what i did when i got the replacement unit was to log in with a different account first, before wiping and going back to my own account
now i got 25 for me and 25 for my son's account

thats what i did, but only because my replacement has the same issue as my original.
as for the OP, im willing to bet you get to keep it. Google has too much going on to give a care if you have a $25 credit or not. Im surprised they dont give a credit to all new Android devices, i bet the play store would boom

I'm curious, also. I just returned my Nexus 7 16GB to the local store I bought it at. I was experiencing screen lift and flicker. I explained my problem to the store manager. They had a few more units in stock, but I said I wanted a refund because I wanted to wait until Google/Asus ironed out the hardware and software issues. He was good enough to give me a full refund without charging me a restocking fee because it was defective.
I spend a little less that half the $25 credit on a few apps (SplashTop HD and Tablet Talk). What happens to the balance? Will they charge my credit card for the apps I bought with the $25 credit?
I reviewed the terms and conditions of their offer, and it didn't mention any consequences for returning the tablet instead of exchanging it. Hopefully I'm good.

I just got my second N7 today and logged in with a different Google account, didn't get a $25 credit though.

So what happens to your credit if you bring the 7 back?

I bought an N7, got the credit and movie, b ought a couple apps with the credit. Ended up swapping it out do to screen lifting pretty bad. Second one similar story, so Im bringing it back too, Im going to wait until more mature hardware comes out until I buy another. So what happens to the credit I used? Will I have to pay for the apps I bought? What about the movie?
Nothing once you have it, its yours.
Suweet! Thanks!
I suppose you could have gotten a second credit on the second device if you used an alternate Gmail address.
I thought about that, but I dont want to take advantage of the situation. I already got a free movie and $25 credit.

Very frustrated with Google Play support, who still holds me over $800

Long story short, I purchased a Nexus 7 from Google Play store back in September but (surprise~~~!) it came with slightly lifted screen on the left hand side. Following that, I RMA'ed them and ordered the replacements units, for which they will put a credit hold on your account. But unsurprisingly, the replacement unit came with lifted screen as well.
Eventually I went through 3 replacement units which all have their issues. So I decided not to bother anymore and just keep my original Nexus 7. I contacted Google about that and sent the replacement units back to them.
It's been already 1 month since those units were delivered back to them and I still haven't got my refund. I have contacted Google many times and they confirm they have received the units already but so far nothing. I can't say I'm happy about that to say the least. While I'm still happy with my Nexus 7 minus the tolerable screen lift, I'm quite frustrated with the whole RMA process which they still hold over $800 on my credit card.
Anybody with similar experience or what can I do other than call them time after time?
EDIT: I just contacted google for the one last time. The rep didn't was a bit confused because I have 3 devices returned there. But she's nice enough to collect all the information and sent to their "specialists". Not long after that, I got the order cancel/refund confirmation from them.
I wonder why it took so long for them to respond before. Now that it's finally solved, however I'd be extremely cautious to order from them again...
I would contact and complain to your credit card company. They should not be holding your credit like that if they have the devices in hand.
One reason I don't want to order from Google, their process sounds incomplete when it comes to RMA. There were other stories of purple not getting refunds or credit being held after items were received.
Edit: darn auto correct, meant people, not purple

Yeah I only purchased from them because I thought the RMA process will be easier. How wrong was I.
Very similar story i had
File a Fraud charge with your bank.. Its how i got my money back.. My bank small local bank said mine was not the first to have issues with googles Return policy and time frame. Its actually illegal in Kentucky but in CA. they can take up to 3 months to give a refund or release the money .I got my money back 2 weeks after filing the charge.Eventually if the banking center gets enough filed complaints they will turn it over to the state banking commissioner. Google play store is not trying to cheat anyone. They just have no idea how to sell hardware. there support team is all from play store for apps.and they are way under staffed. The play store team has no authority to give a customer a resolution now. They have no customer compassion and say this is how it is take it or leave it... Buying from google can be a awesome experience unless you have a issue. THEN it will be worse in your life to resolve.. Do not bother contacting google further about it . it just waste more time..
BUY FROM A BRICK AND MORTAR STORE.
I truly hope one day google will resolve this issue or stop selling hardware from there play store.
getting a final refund from Google is very time consuming. They told me i think it was 14 BUSINESS days, and even that wasn't concrete. It took a month finally to get both my initial (returned) N7 and refused replacement N7 refunded to me.
They told me 15 business days as well which I waited for. But so far it's been 30 days but nothing happened.
One rep told me it's because the ticket for my original tab is still open and then he proceeded to close it. He said google wallet team will get the notice and take over to issue the refund but so far nothing.
I'm thinking about contacting my credit card bank but all the trouble really bugs me to no end.

[Q] Pre-Purchase Precautions

Any chance a mod could delete this thread please? Found a thread that was the same subject as my question. Couldn't figure out how (or if) I can delete it myself.
Hi guys, finally decided to take the plunge and shell out for a Nexus 10. This will be my first tablet purchase, so naturally I want it to go as smoothly as possible.
Although a lot of what I've read from purchasers here seem to suggest it's anything but a smooth process with Google. I've terrified myself half to death with some of the stories here. I should probably also mention that I've never had to RMA any device before, but I'm almost fully committed to the fact that I'll have to with this, after all I've read about it. Otherwise I wouldn't usually post a thread like this.
So. What are the main problems are that people have experienced, which required RMAs and are they still present in the newer batches, seeing as it's almost 6mths old now?
I've looked around these forums for the past half week and found what I believe to be a fairly conclusive list and their possible resolutions. Is there anything else beyond this list I should be watching out for?
RMA for sure
- battery issues - less than 6hrs
- faulty usb/hdmi socket
- constant wifi drop
- speakers buzz
- no sound via hdmi
- crap stuck under screen
- loose to touch/clicky camera lens
- light bleeding (only RMA if excessive)
SOFTWARE UPDATE
- constant restarts with stock rom
BEARABLE WITH CASE
- creaky back cover
Also, is it easier to return to Google or Samsung should I need to RMA?
Thanks in advice for any advice guys.
I have no problems you listed
However I haven't used hdmi
When you buy from play store you can return easily up to a year
They send you the new tablet first so you will have no downtime
Google doesn't repair, they just send new ones
When are you receiving?

Should be receiving within the next 2 days. Just waiting for the payment to clear. If I do need to send for a replacement and they send a new one right away, before collecting the old, do they charge for that unit and then refund? As my bank balance won't cover if they were to charge for the replacement and then refund. Creating obvious issues with my bank.

Well of course Google has to cover themselves in case people refuse to send the old one back. BUT, what happens is, they put a hold on whatever you use to pay for it with. Like I used a credit card, they took a hold out for $400,but didnt charge me. So the $400 never showed up on my credit card, but my credit limit available was lowered by that hold. It gets released when you return the tablet. Totatlly understand why Google does this. But I'll do that to reduce downtime with no tablet. In the end I paid $0 for getting the new tablet.Shipping both ways is free.

Ridiculous Google Pixel RMA Experience

Hello,
I've owned a pixel device for about 2 months now and had started to experience issues with the battery life, standby battery drain and phone shutting off at about 20 percent each time. So I call up google support and explain these issues to them. They agree to replace the device for me. Having purchased the device from a retailer other than google I did not have the option to advance RMA and had to go with the standard one.
On 15th of Feb, I received a mail with shipping labels and other RMA details. On 22nd Feb I send in the phone which they received on 27th. Google is yet to acknowledge this through any mail but their support team over the phone assured me that the phone was received.
Initially, I was promised that a new or refurb phone will be dispatched immediately after the tracking details were updated. Google never met this expectation and so I call them up regarding the same and I was told that it could take 5-10 days for them to process the RMA. At this moment I requested them if they could do anything to expedite the process but they responded negatively every time and told I have no option but to wait which by the way is still the same answer I get every time I call them.
After 10 days passed I hadn't yet received any mail or updates regarding the new device, so I call them up and question the same to them, to which they replied that they need to escalate the case and that it would take them another 48 hrs to resolve the issue. It has now been 4 days since and google still has no idea where my old or the new phone is and they tell me to have patience and wait for the back end team to reply. I must have now spoken to at least 10 representatives and they all give me the answer that nothing can be done about it and that make me feel as if I shouldn't have gone in for the RMA in the first place. I've even requested them to send me back my old faulty unit but refuse to do even that as they don't have the authority to do that.
After reading online, I wasn't shocked to find that am not the only one who has faced such an issue. But what shocked me was that the person hadn't received a device for 50 days and was going to court to file a complaint. Am scared that I don't become a victim of poor google after sales service and have to go to the extent of going to the court.
Edit : - Ok. So I've just gotten off the phone with another representative and he has informed me that I should wait for at least another 48 hrs. So that makes the total turn-around time of about 20 days. That is if they happen to resolve the issue this time.
About two weeks ago I RMA'd my wife's Google Store Pixel (it had the dead-mic-and-speakers disease), and it was smooth as silk.
Refurb was immediately shipped to me via Fedex 2-day, and as expected they placed an auth against my credit card for the cost of the replacement. I shipped back the defective unit three days after I received the refurb.
I like the part where they say in order to get a replacement phone you need to enter your card info, but you wont be charged....just a hold of some sort. So, you enter your card info, submit the order and then they charge you the entire $700+. So you're out of a ton of money until they decide to give it back. You'd think as soon as they receive the old phone they will release the funds back to your account, but before I even received the new phone,4 days later, they gave me my money back. I didn't even send them the old phone, so WTF was the big idea in holding my money if they were just going to give it back before even receiving the old phone? I read about another guy who experienced the same thing and he had to call his creditors and whoever else automatically deducts from his account, because he didn't have the funds to cover his bills. I'm sure theres a lot of people out there who can't cover that even for a few days, or at all. What if you only have $400 to your name?
I dont see why they they dont do like everyone else by sending you the new phone and waiting until they get the old one before they decide to charge you for it.

Mine had that problem. Dead mic, speakers, couldn't make calls, but mine was also really laggy. It was strange because I called my boss in the morning (the day my phone took a dump) and a couple hours later it just stopped working for no reason. Is this a known issue? Has anyone pinpointed a cause?
EDIT: Ok so I just read up and apparently a solder joint/circuit can split disabling all sound and audio processing. Which makes sense, because I couldn't even makes calls using a bluetooth heaset
That stinks. I had a replacement phone in less than 48 hours from the time I sent my old one via FedEx.

I just thought I'd fill in some info about credit cards - nothing actually useful for the main problem this thread is about.
More than likely it was actually a "pre-authorization". A pre-authorized charge effectively puts whatever amount on hold and appears as if it's just a normal transaction. In actuality, unless the company who made the charge (Google) takes action, a pre-authorized amount automatically falls off your credit card after up to 5 days or so. I'm not an expert on this, and I don't work in the credit industry - just from working lots of retail, which I don't do anymore, either. So basically, Google didn't control when the charge no longer appeared on your card, and it only would have remained on your card if Google took further action "solidifying" the pre-authorized amount. There's probably a better explanation but as I said, I'm no expert.

Yes.
I hear all these stories about RMAs, shipping in your phone, and the entire hassle of packing it up, taking it to a shipping center and hoping it makes it there, etc, i honestly hope I do not have to go through any of that. It sound like a pain!
For a short time last year i tried out an iPhone, and there is nothing like being able to walk into the store, buying it, and having someone there to answer your questions. When I decided not to keep it , i simply took it back, told the dude 'its not for me right now' , got an instant refund on my card and literally did not get drilled on exactly why I was returning it. From the time I walked out my door to the time I got home about an hour ish of my time and hassle.
I like Google stuff, and i really like my Pixel, no issues at all with it, but that Iphone buying experience is what Google needs to meet or exceed. I know we are living more and more in an online world, but Google needs to figure this out FAST, or they will not be able to compete with that kind of customer service and support considering the cost of this thing and all the drama I have heard about people returning it. I highly doubt you would get a run around and be made to wait if there was a Google store like an Apple Store.
Its about the customer service/support for buying a very high value item and not being treated like a turd from what it seemed like the OP is being treated.
Actually no alot of us enjoy never having to walk in to an Apple store, most of the time you have to have an appointment or wait an hour in my area. Google support has always been above and beyond here but I deal through project fi, they have excellent customer service. Far beyond Apple Care and cheaper imo.

Did you fully pay with a credit card? If so, call the credit card company and put a payment hold on the transaction. You need to explain to the card company that you did your due diligence to resolve the issue with the seller.
I once bought a 60" TV from a retailer in NY with my AMEX. The TV was DOA. The screen was cracked in half. I called the retailer for an exchange, they didn't do anything for a week. I finally put a hold on the transaction by calling AMEX. Two days later, the retailer shipped me a new TV.
i'm confused can't you just get a refund for DoA/defective?
As @mngdew mentioned, if you paid it with a credit card, then immediately call the bank, make a report and start a charge-back. Seems to be like a defected unit and usually if you've got it from the Samsung store direct, they would most likely give you a one to one exchange if it's within an acceptable time-frame.
Another thing you can do is to submit a complaint to the BBB on Best Buy.
Your post is hard to read, not a single comma.
It sounds odd that they just refused to service you, that's a case for an immediate replacement, but you also have no Consumer guarantees/protection laws like here in Europe so you have pretty much no meaning as a consumer.
Blocking debit/credit card payments in these cases will only create bigger problems and it's pretty much illegal to do so without a proper reason such as fraud or identity theft, at least here.
You should go back to Best Buy and wave the warranty papers in their faces, that's a warranty case, nothing to do with the 14 days cooling off period, they're trying to scam you.

I'm not blaming him if he has problems of any sort, but perhaps he never started typing properly since nobody got the balls to point it out?
No need to do the internet hurt feelings police either, it's everyone's responsibility to write properly if you expect help, if that's perfectly readable to you because you think at the same pace then it's your own problem.
Samsung and Ubreak could've serviced the phone for free. The latter is partnered with Samsung US, after all. Sounds like BB is running the con game.
The best thing about the ops post is the only punctuation used is at the very end.
