Post battery temps here. - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

While charging my galaxy s3 on Verizon can get little warm (103°f while being used) and I just wondered what everyone else was running at. So if you have a battery temp app or widget feel free to post your max temps and averages here.

Hmm 103f is what 39 deg Celsius? Seems quite normal to me for a battery while using, mine also gets warm if i use it for a while webbrowsing and stuff (i have mine on max brightness too). Also if you have a tight fitting/closed case those can raise temps up a bit (obviously)
-my 2 cents.

Yeah I have a case on order right now. When I am just browsing the Web the phone doesn't get too warm, but if I am browsing the Web and charging it can get hot.

120 is considered hot and I'm not not really getting close to that. Thanks.

I think galaxy s3 doesn't read the temperature right. I feel the phone very hot in my hands that is already uncomfortable and it says 99.0°F

95 degrees

28-33 degrees c

I've seen mine at 105F earlier this week. And yes, even when it only reads in the mid to upper 90s, it's uncomfortable to hold down on the lower half of the back of the phone.

Inadvertent heat test...

Got off work early today and decided to take a bike ride (mt bike). 90 degree temps - not a cloud in the sky.
Phone inside a neoprene armband, mounted on bike. Usually don't do that when it's this hot, but it was only 85 degrees when I started.
1hr 13min ride running Cardio Trainer with the screen on full brightness and set to always on, while streaming sports talk on IheartRadio.
Battery life dropped to 80% the first 30 min, which is good condsidering what was running. At the end of the ride (43 min later) it was down to 45% and HOT!
I checked the battery temp expecting to see something in the 42-45 C range, which is the hottest I have seen it get.
Today beat that... 58.3 C!!! or 137 F!!!
No reboots, didn't even notice any slowdown in performance. Opened her up and ran a vent on her all the way home.
She's charging at home now... her fever's all gone.
ps. good thing I have spare batteries.

but heres the temps... temps are legit, the phone was cool to the touch (and i know what warm is! )

I've had this issue too. The other day my phone was at 52degrees whilst charging.
Someone suggested the cases may be to blame. I use a gel skin but have sent for the official case.

yeah, but the temperatures are cooler than normal? :S, it NEVER hits below 29.0C ...
Today is a hot day, and my phone is at 32 degrees whatsapping online for 20 minutes. But playing games it jumps to 40-45, really painful to receive a call after that. I hope they can lower the CPU speed when it gets hot, that way it won't create as much heat or something. I don't know.
I am having this same issue on my Galaxy Tab

Painful as in burning your ears or any other issues we should be aware of ? We should issue a warning: "Don't play games when you expect a call" or get yourself a personalized voicemail message: Hi, i'm playing games on my phone right now and my battery temp is >50C, there's no way in hell i will reply to any call
argh, i gotten this popup too when i tried to charge my phone. wasn't doing anything with the phone!
@OP Sorry, out of topic question. What is the widget that monitor your cpu speed+ temperature?
Setcpu I believe.

galaxy note heating issue

Dont u feel gets overheated while playing games or charging or while hardcore using ur fone..Is der ny solution to this problem? I cant even make calls as the phone heats up my ear too much
It's normal that the phone gets warm when playing games or using it much...
Try find out what the temp of the phone is when it's hot...
/CK
51°C as told by elixir.is it normal?
It gets particularly hot when I browse the Internet nonstop for about 10 minutes.

I have been around 51°C, but normally around 47°C when my phone is working hard. So guess it's kinda normal...
/CK
yep, mine gets really hot when I run the WAZE app on it as well as if i'm listening to streaming music on it. Unless i hold it up to the A/C vents in the car, it will get too hot for me to put it up to my ear to make/receive a call.
I also have problems when I use it as a navigation tool on my motorbike. The waterproof sat nav case prevents circulation and after 20 mins I get a message that battery charging stopped because of to much heat. Figuring now out how to add some vent with a fan/vent.

And with current consumer Law Samsung will have an obligation to either repair or replace the device.
use your phone as normal.
Yes and the only solution it is undervolting the gpu and cpu with some app like tegrak, setcpu or cpu master
I swtiched from LR1 modem to LPT today and I swear my phone is running cooler. I've used it the same as I do everyday and I can really tell it is cooler. Although LPT is slower in speed test for me I think I will keep it for awhile.

Screen on is 2 and a half hours but I've heard people say they use this phone way more than I use mine and they still get like 14 hours
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk now Free
Something on the phone is causing the CPU to never go to sleep and looks like it is staying at a somewhat high speed as well. When I get a wakelock and am stuck at the lowest speed my phone will drain 50-60% over an 8 hour period, so you must be stuck somewhere in the 500-600MHz range.
I've had my screen on for a while cause of texting also not really any browsing or anything else

Try this app to find out what it truly using up you battery. I found this app so helpful that I bought the Pro Version.
Download cpu spy from the play store, and let it run for a charge cycle (it's a free, good quality app and super easy to use). The majority of the time the cpu should be in either 300mhz or deep sleep. Honestly with that kind of battery life, your phone or battery could be defective.

Overheating or not?

Upper half of my NEW phone gets uncomfortably hot even by daily activities.
CPU temp while browsing (65 percent brightness) gets to 158F (70C)
After 3 mins of Minions game it gets to 164F.
Idle- 140F

Is it normal?
My G2 almost always does that. IMO its normal.
Any more opinions?
Mine has never overheated (but does get warm enough), except for when it was rooted. I rooted yesterday only to install some custom fonts and the temp went right up...
bump
Blame the badly coded apps which utilise 100% CPU power despite the fact that less will do.
Yes your phone is perfectly fine. Keep in mind that the only cooler for your phone is it's environment. Since it's summer most places and the temperatures are getting warmer, the phone will not be able to cool as efficiently as it does when it's cold outside. As long as phones only have passive cooling and very powerful processors, this is what to expect. Take any flagship and you'll experience the same. You don't need to bump this anymore now =)
