Mobile data connection doesn't work after using WiFi. Only after reboot - Nexus One General

Hey guys,
I am using ICS Evervolv a5 on my N1. The mobile data connection works only if I don't connect to a WiFi network. If I do, the only way I have found to make it work again is to reboot the phone.
This means that while I am at home, everything works through WiFi, however, if I leave home, I have to reboot my phone once I am sure the phone is far enough from my WiFi access point to be able to connect. Then, it starts working with the cellular data plan
The only thing I can relate to this is that I have the "application protection" app installed, protecting the settings menu do with a code so my kids don't mess up with that. However, is still hard to believe that's the culprit.
Thoughts?

I too had this problem when i updated from 4.0 to 4.1U2. I tried couple of things like clearing cache/dalvik cache etc. nothing worked.
Later i used 4EXT Recovery to format all except fat32. After this i did clean install and things are working fine

Do you just have gray bars or is the connection icon showing an x?
I had the problem that I could not connect and I had to clear the data of the Google framework to get it going again.
But that might have been another problem.

Try turning airplane mode on and then off, so you don't have to reboot the phone. It works for me.

I am getting the gray bars. It seems that is working these past couple of days. I will try clearing the data from the Google framework the next time it happens..

I noticed that I was getting grey bars over the last few days too, but using CM7. However it corrected itself yesterday. Perhaps it's something external causing it?

Just a quick note, i guess most people on xda know this but if not, you could try to use an app called catlog or other similar apps.
You can find out if programs are behaving badly by using it and by Googling errors you often find the solution faster.

Data not always working?

So occasionally, but often enough that I am bothered by it, my Droid Pro refuses to turn on data (the 3G or 1X in the notification bar) despite having perfect signal and trying to use apps that require data. It is not a setting that is wrong, I think, because sometimes the data will turn on by itself and 100% of the time can be fixed with a reboot. A reboot of course takes minutes, so I was wondering if there were a way to jumpstart the data connection besides a reboot. Turning airplane mode on and off doesn't seem to help, only a reboot does. Have many of you encountered this issue?
I've been such a problem when switching from CDMA mode to GSM.
+1
I have the same issues with GSM/3G and often also with wlan.
It sucks.
I haven't found an easy way to get back online fast. The phone does what it wants.

Does nobody else ever have this problem?? It is always fixable by a reboot but I was wondering if anyone else knows a different way?
It seems that problem is gone away with the update...

Help, Battery completely ran out and now no Signal (and dialler force closes)

Hey,
Been running Oxygen 2.2.2 for a fair few weeks now without 1 single problem (love this ROM)
Today battery completely died, phone was left 2 hours without any charge and now I have no signal and as soon as phone boots it has a Dialler force close issue which comes back 2 seconds after I press force close.
Only by putting phone into Aeroplane mode does the error stop, but re-enabling still gives me no signal and lots of dialler force close.
Any advice?
Might need to reflash the rom

Tried it and still same,
Its something to do with the mobile networks settings......
As soon as I click on network settings I get instant force close error and menu goes back to main settings....
Also, I noticed the 2G/3G toggle in status bar settings is grayed out, something is messed up here, can't fix it
Fixed it for those with similar problem...
First, I put my Nexus S into Airplane mode and rebooted it. This stopped the force closes for me.
Next, I purchased Sqlite Editor and downloaded it from Android Market.
Using Root Explorer, I browsed to "/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/" and opened "settings.db" with sqlite editor.
Next, I opened "secure" and deleted the value for 'preferred_network_mode'.
Lastly, I rebooted my Nexus S and all working well.
Thanks

Possible fix for wifi freeze

Ever since I downloaded gingerbread I have noticed (and I know I'm not alone) a wifi freeze that would occur everytime my screen would turn off. I've tried countless factory resets, reflashing recoveries, and apps like wifi reassociate and nothing seemed to work. When I reset my phone it would seem fine till I uploaded my go launcher app . Since then it wouldn't work, so I tried uninstalling it and vuala it works again and flawlessly might I add. I use the wifi off Wm screen is off feature in advanced settings and once I turn on the screen within 5 seconds the wifi is on again as well. Hopefully this is a fix for others as well..

sorry but just to clarify, are you saying that wifi freezes with go launcher only?
because I think that many users here are using launchers that differ from go launcher and yet they are facing this issue.
btw I am using stock 407 since a week and never once the wifi froze (touch wood!)
What I've noticed is that when WiFi stops working after the Dell Streak has been on standby for a while is that if I switch the device to Airplane Mode, then off Airplane Mode, it works properly, till it's been on standby for ages again. Small annoying glitch, but I deal with it.
It never freezes while in active use.

I'm using DSC 0.66b with Phoenix kernel and also noticed a problem with Wi-Fi freeze, but I fixed it by simply going to Settings > Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi Settings > Advanced and changing Wi-Fi sleep policy to never and then letting Green Power app to manage my Wi-Fi. Good enough for me, maybe this will be useful to someone else as well. Cheers.

I have tried 'wifi fixer' but it's not working for me...Can one please explain what is causing the problem actually? Is it caused by device or OS
Tried it, but after a few days uninstalled

The first few days it worked. But after awhile Wifi Fixer started giving me issues, specially using 100% of the CPU. I unistalled it. I couldn't take my Streak being slow.
The same thing was happening for me also. However, the problem went away after I re-flashed the 407 recovery and installed the Olleh ROM again on my streak. Fingers crossed !!
I was able to fix my wifi problems by setting up a static IP on the phone and router. I have a detailed post in the DSC Rom thread...

I've noticed a lot that with 407 the wifi shows as connected, but won't work until I turn wifi off and on again.
I hope this helps
I was looking into this WiFi freeze and ran into the XDA's crew. Is it possible to have mobile data working perfectly? I can't locate my sim card I believe its built in. My WiFi is set to off. My router will resume network if I turn wifi back on. The weird thing is. I have no data plan on this phone, its been down for years. I was shocked but it didn't help with the freezing, it was if I turned WiFi back on. Then the old Vibrate, Stall.ing, vibe one more time then the WiFi freeze thing.
Still on topic don't worry but that talk about go launcher. It "was" recently installed on my device. Till we all started doing data wipes Hahaa. My point is. As a fresh data restore no apps installed yet. My Google Search suggested that I use explorer, youtube or tubemate to view my search? I dont have that installed anymore I'm a changed man.. Thats why I brought up your Go Launcher theory. Maybe both launchers are interfering I guess, cuz I wouldn't know. I'm only here to give XDA's more Details so they can do what they do best...
My Samsung S738C is running 4.0.4 ics
Basebands S738CWYMJ1
KERNEL 3.0.8-1251199
BUILD IMM76D
Start with Go launcher or if there's anything this Noob can do. Won't be much
good job
thank you very much sir !

Nexus 4 looses data connection after usage

Hi,
My nexus 4 has a strange behaviour. When I start the device, everything is OK. I can use data to write something via whatsapp, or other minor usage. But as soon as I use a bit more data, e.g. Facebook sync, send a picture via whatsapp or open a second webpage, my connection freezes. But the signal bars are still blue. If I activate WiFi and deactivate it, it won't turn blue again. Even airplain mode cant't bring data back. The only thing is a reboot to get data. It happened on stock, stock with faux kernel, and (now) cm10.1. I always did a factory reset in recovery with wiping cache and dalvik when I changed something. My carrier is Vodafone.
Any tipps? Actually it can't be a hardware issue, right?

[Q] MF9 AFTER update glitch

Brand new Galaxy S4 from Sprint. No root, all stock.
Prior to the update I went through Settings -> Connections -> Data Usage... and did "Restrict background data" for quite a few of the main apps that were using up a lot of data in the background. The two main ones were "Google Play Store" and "Google Services". NOW. This is ONLY background data. So it should have nothing to do with the app or system when running in the foreground. And at this point I had the phone for almost a week with things those settings and absolutely zero issues.
THEN System Update MF9 happened. Suddenly the minute I'm on Mobile Data only and not on WiFi, the phone freezes, restarts, and after a couple seconds to a minute of being on, it freezes again and restarts. Infinitely. If I'm on WiFi, it doesn't happen. If both WiFi and Mobile Data are off, it doesn't happen.
Stumped the first Samsung guy at Best Buy. Second guy was able to force a reinstall of the update through Odin. But it still did it. Exchanged the phone again, made sure the update went through at the store. Everything seemed ok. THEN when I tried to Restrict background data for the Google Play Store, happened again. But this time it was when I long pressed the home key in order to see the apps running in the background.
Can someone please explain to me what the heck google play store has to do with the entire system freezing and restarting? Because I just can't see the connection between the two. Not to mention it wasn't an issue prior to the MF9 update. Plus it bugs me that I can't restrict the data. I was on unlimited, but now I'm a part of my sisters family plan and don't want to be the one blamed for using up all the data.
Any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this? I want to be able to freely restrict the things I want to like prior to the update. Worst case scenario I'll have to revert it and just ignore the update until a new one comes out Halp!
Not sure what's happening but if your still with Sprint which I assume you are you still get unlimited data even on a family plan. Doesn't fix your issue but should give you peace of mind about using to much data.

My sister lied to me. I found out today. But still. It's weird that I can't restrict background data either way.
and only since this last update. Everything was fine before it. Plus I'm concerned because if it makes that glitchy then what else can tweak out at any moment?
This always happens. I should be a beta tester. I always find the most awkward random glitches. Like that time i got stick on a tree in WOW...
Having this exact issue........ if mobile data is not switched off it will just boot loop.

Personally, I would advise you to downgrade to MDL. But it's your choice.
I'm not too familiar with MF9 that much.

I have the same problem with my stock, factory-reset Sprint/Ting Galaxy S4 (pre-loaded MF9 build): If I turn on "Restrict background data" ('Rbd') on any or all of the processes listed under Settings-->Data usage, the phone will reboot more or less immediately, as soon as 4G becomes the only data source.
In other words, I can check 'Rbd' on any (or all) listed processes, and the phone will run just fine with either 1) WiFi & 4G, 2) WiFi only, or 3) WiFi/4G both off. I just can't run (for long) with 4G alone, unless none of the processes have 'Rbd' checked.
So to limit my data usage with the Sprint JD...MS9 build for the GS4, the only workaround I've found is to manually turn off "Mobile data" via the main pulldown menu, and turn it back on only when I need data, and WiFi isn't available. I've given up trying to use the broken "Restrict background data" feature.

Yeah......I never got a fix for this........I do the same, I switch on mobile data when I need to check my messages. Just waiting on an update and hope it gets fixed. The other alternative is to downgrade to MDL but the battery life will be not so great.
