broken volume button after display replacement - HD2 General

I have successfully replaced the screen on the HTC HD2 Leo, but after assembling the phone the volume button is not working. I am not sure if there can be something missing as I cannot feel the 'click' when it's pushed. (not sure if it was there before though)
As far as I remember the volume button consist of two parts: the printed circuit and the plastic button. Or is there maybe something that needs to be connected that I have missed?
Thanks for any hints

dismantle it again, it can be the plastic button its self, it acts like a spring under its own tension, when I re built mine the first time the lower button had stopped worked well, and it was simple because I hadn't put it back right, it was, and it looked right, but it wasn't quite right

I would a agree with dazza9075. Sometimes when putting the phone back together it may look right but sometimes its not. If i remember correctly there is a little spot it fits right into but you need to make sure it goes in in just the right way,
both on the top and the bottom. There is a complete how to guide to replace the lcd screen on the HD2. If i find it I will post the link. It may clear up just how you need to place the vol button back in place. Worse case you can always find a
cheap volume button for only a few dollars on ebay to see if maybe you broke this one when trying to replace the screen.

Hi, I did not manage to fix the button, but managed to get by without it.Till now. I was looking in google for a solution and found my own tread from ages ago...
Now, I would need to put the button together again. I looked into it and I guess I am missing a piece that the plastic button is supposed to be pushing. Before I order something, can anyone please confirm and possibly post a picture of what the button it should look like under the plastic part. Also if you know what the part I need is called, please let know. Please see below how my button "circuit" looks like.
Many thanks for any help

This is what you should have bellow the button

Thanks for your response. I could not find the buttons separately and have therefore ordered the button ribbon for the 5 hw keys for under $3, which hopefully will be possible to dissemble and transfer. I would rather not buy the whole flex cable, where's the button is attached to, as this is quite expensive $20+.
I let you know if I was lucky. If you know where I can buy only the small pieces I am missing, please let me know.
A pic of what I ordered is attached fyi

i can confirm that you can use buttons from that tape, I've had the same situation, just pick up the circle button and add it to volume tape.
Mine was damaged during assembly, you have to be very carefoul

You can actually do lcd & digi removal & refit without need to remove flex ribbon completely thus keep the volume button & cables running to mainboard all in place and those small button caps are safe still wrapped in original tape & it all goes back together factory style ...

Need help: broken on button

So the power button on my phone is busted.
Long story short, someone dropped it and the button broke.
Anyways, i was using the camera button to turn before, but then now it dont work.
It still turns on when i get a call or have my headset plugged in to it.
Do any of you guys know how to change a button to become a power button. maybe make the camera become a power button.
Thanks for your help.
use "do not lock buttons" in Keylock menu and than install KeyLock app to manage autolocking after suspend (to prevent auto poweron) and set it to "lock after wake up").
You can also use Battery Status to do that
I have seen an issue where the power button was knocked out of place, to resolve this, I took the back off the unit and pushed the button back into place, this resolved the problem, it is also possible the solder points have been broken... really easy to solder back on.
cheers
Steve
same problem here
i dropped my TyTN to the floor and the on/off button works after tricking it, but it turns itself on and off at times. and the button wont pop back after pressing...
so i think ill try to solder it back on.
BUT- i need tools to do this. anyone know what tools besides a soldering iron? i really want to do this right, i have busted a few cellphone screws in my life
EDIT:
okay so i found out on the wiki about the tools and procedure... ill post an update on how its going once i get it done

WELL then, it was just the main motherboard that had displaced itself, making the ON-button misaligned with the button on the board... so, i pressed the motherboard in place, and voila! the phone is good as new
i almost died of nerves, but it turned out all right after all... *phew*

Broken Power Button challenge! Workaround?

My Vogue took a swim the other day and after some emergency triage, I was able to salvage the device with the exception of one thing-- the power button. The device turns on when you put in the battery, but after it goes to sleep, there is no way to turn the screen back on (unless someone calls me!).
My side button still works. Has anyone has any experience remapping the "screen on" command to a side button? any other ideas?
Thanks!
WOW! my power button just broke yesterday too and i had the exact same question!! But i actually dropped mine and i know the power button is either jammed or broken because it doesnt spring back. I basically have the same question. Is there anyway we can change the side camera button 2 act as the power button?
Thanks (and sorry 4 asking the question twice)
Personally, I would get a new device, since that may not be the only side effect, hopefully you have insurance, you do right?
Anyways, try AEButton Plus, set the camera button to whatever function (i.e. triple tap) to switch display on/off.
Then goto Settings>System>Key Lock, and change the setting to "Do not lock buttons"
Also, this is NOT freeware.
PHM Screen saver...
I had same issue with Power button - I cloned a Telus I got on Kijiji for $80.00 - Once I get AAA Auth working all will be well...
I used to use something called PHM Screensaver... and Yes RESET works too...
BTW - Anyone know where to get parts like that (IE Power button?) - LCD is easy to find, and I don't need it...

I haven't opened it up... but usually it's part of the main circuit board. Unless you're good with soldering tiny little pins... you'll probably have to buy the board and swap it out.
In the case that you happen to have mad soldering skills... it's most likely a fairly common momentary switch. You could possibly rob one out of some other gadget or order one on ebay. The hardest part of that would be getting one that fits where the old one does.
Actually, you won't need AEButton Plus, just turn the lock off.
You could aslo disable "time out power off" type of stuff...
and use AE buttons to turn the screen on and off..
as far as the broken one, i'd dissasemble and see if tis' the
actual switch, or if ti's just the plastic button going to the switch.
Has anyone been succesfull in in repairing the power button? I've dropped my phone only twice in the last two years and both times the spring in the power button broke. I'm beginning to think this is the world's most fragile phone.

Tweak / mod the Power button

Hi!
Is it just me or is the power button real tough to press?
Has anyone thought of adding a small mod to raise this button to make it easier to press?
Any luck?
Thanks!
The left hand side of mine (as you look at the screen) is slightly raised.
Isn't yours ?
Yup, it's raised but just a little; i don't think I'm "fat thumbed" but it's really difficult to press while using just one hand.
I agree but it's not as bad as I found the Tytn II.
I've now got used to aiming at the left hand side of the HD button which is raised higher.
Of course, I often just use the stylus pull to switch on as well.
On the Tytn II I superglued a slice of cable insulation to the button. This worked fine. I used a small black cable and cut the insulation longways to the right size. It needed steady hands but was a good solution.
one good thing in other pda's is that in the settings menu was that keylock applet, in which you could have all the keys unlocked, so you can power on the device only by pressing the front keys, and not bother with the power button.
But i can not see this applet in the rom i have 1.14
Does anyone know how we can have this keylock applet again?
While it can sometimes be a bit of a pain to press I'm glad that it doesn't accidentally get pressed whilst in my pocket, I often don't bother locking it so I'd be pressing stuff all over the place.

Yes, i'm also seriously contemplating that solution
I'm just afraid that the button might get damaged because of the super glue... things might get messy

Well it worked so well on the Tytn II that I never took it off so I can't judge !!

Volume button is loose

Today I noticed that the Volume button is loose. Is this normal?
My Touch HD's Volume button is firmly in place.
How loose? Might has a little give in it but i wouldnt call it loose.
It's quite loose, I can move it with slightest touch .
My volume up button didn't work out of the box. There are a couple of threads about the problem but no solution that I saw other than take it back for a replacement which is what I did this week.

Thanks for your input. Anyway my volume button works fine, but it's just loose. I'm not sure I can get a replacement for this reason.
there is supposed to be a little "play" in all of the buttons. Its the same with PSP, DS and other portable gadgets. With a little give they won't break as quickly if they get snagged on clothing for example because they are not rigid and consequently have a little bit of "give". Hope that makes sense!
My first one had a solid volume button, the button on my replacement is very loose. Whether they will all get looser over time is another question...

[Q] (Q) replaced digitizer but volume buttons doesnt not work?

Hey, i just replace my digitizer for my t-mobile hd2 and successful got it back together and thought that everything was work, but i could not get the volume button in. I got it in after putting the chassis on but the volume button still doesn't work. So if anybody could give me some input on this that would be very helpful.
Do you feel the button take action when you press it? If it does, then the contact is made with the button, the problem might be something else.
a guy from HTC repair said its better to change whole screen instead of replacing digitizer.
As mentioned, can you feel the button depressing when you add pressure to the rocker? Pull the case back off and press the button manually to see if it works when powered on. If it works then, realign the flex cable and retry. If it still doesn't work, then you most likely damaged the flex cable and need to replace it.

In addition to said above check housing screws, they must be tightened because if they are missing plastic volume keyboard will misalign with flex cable volume keys and it will be impossible to press them.

It can be found on eBay for about 43-44 bucks. Good luck!
